    “Men are visual creatures, not emotional ones.” Is so ignorant and sexist, I can’t even. I know tons of emotional men and emotional women who don’t look at other human beings as objects. Granted there are people who are that way, it has nothing to do with gender. That’s a stereotype.

      As a general rule, male sexuality is visually driven. That’s simply a fact. I’m not defending this video, but calling that statement an ignorant stereotype is just incorrect.

    • @AddBowIfGirl
      @AddBowIfGirl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      Not to mention that all creatures with working eyes are visual creatures and that she literally and immediately directly contradicts herself to claim men aren’t emotional creatures. If simply what they see is making them emotional (and I highly recommend she and males of her mindset look up “emotion”) then actually men _are_ the more emotional beings and being emotional is usually fine but being so emotional that you become dangerous or can’t handle existing next to fellow humans because of their body shapes, then you’re definitely the problem and need to get your emotions in check. Our species was not designed for the males to lose their shit over female bodies. Naked is our most natural state afterall.

      especially the second one, as a girl who was raised very religious, my mom would constantly say that to me, ever since i was like 12. "all they think about is sex", "they think makeup is sExUaL". basically, if i put extra effort is how i look, i'll look "sexual" to men. 🤢 so glad i never believed her.
      edit: ok here's an example, when i was 16 i wanted to put on lip gloss that my friend got me as a gift & it had a little pink tint. my mom literally told me i couldn't wear it outside bc men would see it as sexual if i made my lips more colored. i was 16. 16!!!😐

    As a by-choice hijabi, modest clothes do not stop you from being sexualized. If males want to sexualize a woman, they will do it no matter how clothed she is. Rape and assault is always the rapist's fault, never the victim. I dress modestly because it makes me feel good and does somehow draw more respect.

    I don’t dress “modestly,” but I don’t necessarily dress “immodestly” either. I simply wear what makes ME feel the most comfortable and confident. I wear shorts that you’d probably consider immodest, but I wear them because I like them and not for the purpose of being more sexually appealing. Just because some women choose to show more skin doesn’t mean they are doing it for the sole purpose of looking more enticing.

    • @wolfofthewest8019
      @wolfofthewest8019 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Men say things like that all the time. It's completely uncontroversial. This is the root of all sexism: masculine hyperagency and feminine hypoagency. If you suggest that a man will be judged based on how he dresses and presents himself, absolutely no one will bat an eye. Men are always held responsible for how other people treat them. Women, on the other hand, are treated as stupid, brainless children who can't be held responsible for their choices and actions. Which often means women can't be judged for their choices and actions.
      Thus if you say something like "Of course no one respects you, you dress like an immature slob." to a man, everyone agrees that's fair. But if you say "Of course no one respects you, you dress like an immature slut." to a woman, morons and idiots start screaming how that's sexist against women because how dare you assert that women aren't brainless morons who are incapable of understanding that others judge them based on how they dress.

      I'm currently working through trauma from being sexualized at 11 because I had boobs. I didn't wear skin tight clothes, I fit into the conservative religious mold I grew up in. But I was not allowed to participate in a lot of events in the summer or swimming because if I wore comfortable clothing, I was considered "rebellious" and a "bad influence". 🙄 Swim suits were either a two piece, which was never allowed because God forbid a middrift shows, or a one piece where it would fit but cleavage would be out, or it wouldn't fit and my bottom/down there would be exposed because it was too big. From 11. Because boobs.

    “the difference between beauty and sexiness,” being beautiful can be sexy, and being sexy can be beautiful....

  • @blybee9546
    @blybee9546 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4703

    I don’t like the fact this argument not only degrades women as just “objects” but also degrades men as being carnal/animalistic creatures who can’t possibly control themselves if a woman decides to dress a little too “immodestly”. This is not the case. There are bad people and good people in the world. The solution is not to make things less “tempting” to a bad man (because this solution takes away women’s rights), it is to instead change the education system to teach boys in school to respect a woman and not to see her as just an object, as well as following through with the appropriate repercussions. Your argument places so much on emphasis on the validation from men, as if women need this to be valuable? If all a man can think about at a date is his date’s v-cut shirt, then it is on the man for being unable to look past his own primal urges to realize there is a individual human being before him. Not the woman.
    You made another point about women of an older age still dressing “immodestly” and asked the question ”At the age 50, would your rather be praised for your body or family?”
    First of all, why not both? Beauty can be expressed no matter how much clothes you wear! Do you look at a Greek statue and immediately sexualize it, or do you think to yourself “Wow, the artist perfectly captured the natural beauty of that human!”. If you think the former, then is it not your own mind that’s at fault or the sculptor?
    And why should women no longer dress how they wish at 50? They can love their bodies too! They are still human, no matter what age they turn, and expression doesn’t just vanish once you get into your 30s.
    I don’t know your story or how you’ve been influenced to think this way, so I’m not going to criticize you personally. However, please don’t try to push damaging messages to impressionable young girls that their bodies are inherently sexual, and they cannot be beautiful if a man looks at them a certain way.
    Have a good day 😊

    Don’t dress just for men, (or women, lesbians exist) dress in clothing that makes YOU happy. If you wanna go to the grocery store in sweats and flip flops, go right ahead. Same thing if you wanna go to the store with a dress and high heel boots. As long as you’re comfortable with what you’re wearing, knock yourself out. (Before people come after me, yes there are exceptions. Like, don’t wear pajamas or a bikini to a job interview, I’m just saying that clothing is a way to express oneself, and women should not be forced to wear unrevealing clothes so men are “able to focus”)

I feel like a religious and if u aren’t that is fine to take this out of prospective if u want I don’t care but if u think about it u are hiding god’s creation and in Adam and Eve the showed of their whole body but the apple that they ate was a sin witch is a sin made them aware of it so if u think about it god planned for us all to just walk around naked. Also in the Bible Jesus said if u see her and u doing the naughty ( I don’t know what he exactly said ) gouge your eyes out. There for Jesus doesn’t care he cool with it. So worry about your self this man knows what he is talking about.

      Do you know the word "patriarchy"?

    • @amukbir8777
      @amukbir8777 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@flexibleskedulePatriarchy is the state of human society. Without it you wouldnt have food in your table and without it you wouldnt even be able to have sex with whoever you want without getting pregant.
      It has its downsides for women and men tho.
      For women it comes oversexualisation.
      Since you are the natural selectors, males interact with you because of sexual attention.
      This creates issues(rape,creeps and oversexualisation)
      For men it comes higher competition for mates,to the point where most of them will either be incompetent and die alone or either have to actively become far better than the mate they want to atract. Also this highly hierarchycal competence comes with more agressive and dangerous actions. So yes, technically they are less apreciatted,more likely to die and less likely to feel wanted.
      I always hear the "patriarchy" thing but if I am being honest no man or woman created it,its subconsequence of human nature so It cant really be changed.
      The invisible hierarchy in males is created by women by sexual selection of the "strongest" but it isnt women who created it,its the environment for humans to continute to exist,women MUST be selective thats why that hierarchy exists (it wasnt intentional)
      The notions of what society is will alwaus be based on and driven by biological motivation.
      Specially when it comes to surviving.
      Also dont blame the guys who sexualise you in their minds,a healthy human male with healthy dopamine receptors gets a dopamine rush when he sees naked woman that he finds attractive and most men find most women somewhat attractive.
      Your body objevtively isnt like the male body,due to sexual dimorphism so you cannot function logically with the same rules if you want efficiency.
      Patriarchy is not a system,it is the human society's evironment and driven by gender interactions.
      And no,nowadays in western world this environment is not trying to dominate women.
      People are fighting an enemy that doesnt exist instead of solving a problem breaking it down logically

    • @alexandragialama8252
      @alexandragialama8252 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you can't have both in every occasion, you will have to choose. That's life. Abby didn't say you don't have the right to dress as you like, you do. She just expressed her opinion on why we should generally speaking dress adequately based on purpose. Sexy does not work everywhere, as well as modest, strict, and so on do not either. If you go to a park with your children what feelings do you want to arouse to other parents or children? Sexiness? Strict? Maybe something more neutral, casual, happy so neither sexy nor strict would work. If you go to a business meeting and have a deep cleavage what do you expect others will look at? I mean It is logical that the attention will be drawn there, both for men and women. The same would happen if a man came to a meeting with super tight shirt and shorts showing off his ripped muscles and abs. Most people would be distracted. Well it is okay if that is your ultimate purpose. But don't whine if people don't focus on what you say because you got their attention with something else. Choose what you want, but every choice has a result and a consequence and you cannot avoid it or ask for avoiding it. This would only be possible in a utopian world.
      Then as from a classical/conservative perspective she thinks that women (along as men) should be praised for their character, personality and achievements, not for their bodies or sexuality which only diminishes them to objects. She argues for praise and respect based on internal/profound traits vs. external/superficial ones. If we "still" believe in freedom of speech (which includes freedom of expression and opinion) then it should be okay for Abby to express her perspectives without being bullied for these or receiving false accusations. In a world where the other perspective is broadly accepted we should be open to listen to another. We do not all need to see things from the same perspective.

      I don't believe that's what her intent was behind that statement. To me, that statement's value was whether or not an older woman would like to be praised for her body or for her accomplishments. It's no secret that this woman is a conservative influencer, so for her, an accomplishment may be that she is able to marry and have children. This may be different for you, but the value of that statement was most definitely not that you worth is contingent on if you marry and have children or not.

      Mike Starkly I don’t condone ANYBODY sexualising anybody unless there is that level of consent. And uh yeah smart people don’t wear extremely revealing clothes in the work place.
      You act as if women are saying that they don’t want to be sexualised but they can sexualise others. The lesson here is to teach people to fucking keep it in their pants.
      Of course there’s certain places were there’s dressing etiquette. People know this.
      The way you’re talking is acting as if your clothes justify being sexually harassed. When we should teach EVERYBODY. From a young age that consent is needed for those kind of remarks.
      No form of sexual harassment is okay, so stop trying to justify one form of sexual harassment with sexual harassment.
      If I decide I want to wear something I feel comfortable enough wearing, whether it is revealing, or completely covering me. I can still get sexually harassed or assaulted.
      Instead of blaming it on clothing blame it on the education system that failed to teach our students about the importance in consent. If you remark something and the person looks uncomfortable or you two aren’t at that level of flirting whatsoever then don’t do it. It’s so easy.
      Teach all students to respect each other’s boundaries and consent. If there is no level of consent don’t do it. Especially if somebody tells you to stop or they look uncomfortable.

      Joanna Boll The title is literally called "Why YOU Should Dress Modestly"
      She's literally telling people how they need to dress, saying it's wrong for them to dress any other way, and even going as far as saying they look like "trash" if they don't dress the way she likes. I get her point about certain people being idiots who only care for tits and ass, but it's not her decision to make for others. I'm sure anyone who shows a little skin knows exactly what they're signing up for when going out in public, and has the courage to do so anyway despite those risks because that's what THEY like, not what they think others will like. If a person isn't completely naked or making public porn, then I don't see the issue. The way another person dresses isn't my problem to deal with, because to me, I'm the only person that matters. People need to stop focusing on how others live their lives and stay in their own lane. I dress basically as a dude with my oversized t-shirts, jackets and hoodies, and jeans and you don't see me getting peeved when a girl walks by in a crop top and booty shorts. I'll just think to myself how confident she is being in her own skin, not worrying about what those around her might think. And I respect that so much because honestly who gives af what others think? They can shove their opinions up their ass for all I care. This girl's opinion was just not needed, and outright disrespectful. I have absolutely no idea why this is showing up in everyone's recommended, but I'd say a majority of viewers can agree that she just needs to shut her pie hole according the the like/dislike ratio. If she cares so much about what others think of her, she could take the hint and take the video down. Or at least make an apology, because dear lord, she was insulting people left and right throughout this entire video who did not deserve those attacks.

They say certain things are a woman’s job and some are a man’s.... a woman’s to be modest and “ladylike” and a man’s to be a breadwinner and dominant. In my culture it’s very different.... it’s just so odd to see her preach the moral goodness of women covering up as if that’s not just her culture’s beliefs and actually a moral statement to something? Women in my grandparents country often wore nothing but “skirts” in English. We don’t go about preaching how they need to cover up or risk being mistreated by male attention... us men simply... don’t harass and objectify life givers??? It’s not hard at all. I just noticed a pattern. Women who tell others to dress modestly usually dress to impress men, to prove them that they are not sex objects. While women who dress revealingly usually just don't care about men, its all about her body, comfort and style.

    • @nanan3521
      @nanan3521 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One person's opinion cant be a pattern, some people dress modesty because they feel better "don't forget that", it has nothing to do with man. "It is about privacy,". I like to keep some of myself only to myself because it is my right to privacy. Some people feel naked when they are wearing revealing clothes some don't feel that. For some people regardless of men or woman clothes makes them feel safe because they are able to keep parts of themselves only to themselves not for everyone to see. hope you understand what I mean.

      Do you expect them to look the same when they're 80 and long retired from popular culture? The point she's making is that they'll only be remembered for their bodies if you focus on that aspect. Rosa Parks, Susan B Anthony, and Eleanor Roosevelt (to name a few fine females of history) probably had bangin' bodies at some point, but that's not the focus of the impact they left on the world. Those women went down in history for their minds and actions while J Lo will be remembered as the 50 year old with a nice ass dancing at the superbowl and Shakira will be remembered for her hips that don't lie.

      in the religious aspect of it, yes showing off your body is trying to get attention. When I say "trying to get attention" I don't just mean in a sexual way but you want to be noticed by what your wearing, you want people to look at you and think Oh she's cute, or I really love that dress or shirt. You want someone to look at you when you dress to show off. There isn't anything wrong with that because it does make people feel good when you comment on their clothing or how those jeans make your legs look good (in a non-sexual way) but to God, we aren't meant to be walking around showing off our bodies.

      Sophia Troanska what you’re saying is “boys will be boys” and that it’s not an Evolutionary trait, it is a learned behavior due to centuries of oppression against women. Just cause SOME ‘men’ objectify your body doesn’t mean ALL men do. Just like not all women are blindly helping this men objectify women like the creator of this video is.

      It doesn't work like that though. When you dress modestly, you don't attract that much attention from many people. But when you're dressed modestly, and attract people with your personality rather than your body. It just makes them imagine what kind of person you really are. Imagining doesn't always mean thinking about sexual things. I don't get what you immediately thought of that. And she explained it thoroughly in her video too.

When i dressed "modestly" i still got unwanted attention and I know they want to fuck me only but i told them i have better things to do . So dressing modestly does nothing!

    Respect, some people claim that men will sexualize you no matter what and this can be true, but the difference between dressing modestly and provocatively is the difference between having a do not trespass sign and having a welcome to all sign. Sure, some people will trespass no matter what, but if you say welcome to all then otherwise normal people who would normally not step into your house will trample all over it and feel justified. If you can’t distinguish between the effects of provocative dress and modest dress and you just pretend it’s the same because terrible people exist in the world, then you basically are a child who has no idea what surviving actually looks like. Surviving in a truly dangerous world means reducing risk of terrible stuff, you can’t escape it entirely. If you think men can escape the terrible stuff think again, we are always assessing how to avoid bad things happening to us. The world is dangerous, grow up, and realize that all we can do is our best to reduce our chances of terrible stuff, the rest is chance.
