totally, consolidation is upon us, for better or worse and I'm not even looking at Sony to do something similar, maybe Amazon will buy some of the other big publishers
@@sweet0mistral Sony had, arguably in all practicality CREATED their exclusives. Their strategy was to buy very small game companies and support them alot, incorporate them into their studios etc. In the same way, Microsoft had essentially obtained Halo and Forza with a similar strategy. This was all perfectly fine as all franchises started as a first party exclusive, for example Rachet and Clank wasn't first loved by both platforms- ONLY PlayStation Players. However, since Microsoft had been in a pure drought of creative originality for the past 7-9 years, having no truly overwhelming intellectual properties obtained, they simply just bought out a publisher. Why is this bad? Surely Sony started it right? Well as a first , both Sony and Xbox had both obtained first party exclusives on a reasonably fair strategy. And secondly, it's much more 'anti-consumer' persay than what Sony were doing. Leeching pre-established companies through cheap cash grabs incentivises anticonsumer practices when talking about exclusivity. Bethesda games were enjoyed on both platforms, it's very anticonsumer to just stop the franchise on one platform- that's like stopping FIFA on just Xbox or vice versa... If that wasnt bad enough, microsoft just did another cash grab for Activision, further consolidating the industry and making much less room for change and innovation.. The future results of this? Well first of all prices will rise- significantly, ESPECIALLY for game pass. Let's say Microsoft made all Activision games exclusive, Microsoft could make the games exclusive on game pass and up the price by a considerable margin, especially considering there's no other place to go. This is not good for consumers , even Xbox players^. In addition, it is also worthy to mention that the acquisition of many studios provides large problems considering game quality. Firstly, it's incredibly difficult to micromanage many studios at once - yes, even for Microsoft, I know - and secondly , the acquisition of massive publishers drives out the need for competing with the other company, ergo the need for improving quality of games For example, if Microsoft just flat out bought most of the significant game's and developers on the market, Sony has no way to combat that in all actuality, because Microsoft influence too large of a percent of the market, by buying all the studios Microsoft have essentially just driven out the space for Sony to compete. Ever heard the saying 'Competition drives innovation'? Something along those lines.. If Microsoft doesn't have anyone to compete with, why would they improve? There's no incentive. In fact, it would be less costly to stay the same quality as no one has space to move to Sony if all exclusives are gone
That's the beauty or at least the hope is the executives at Microsoft understand the studios and titles and franchises they have on their hands and we'll do just that extra due diligence that activision etc just didn't want to do
Personally I think Xbox will allow all of these “support” studios to go back to be actual studios and make their own games. Move the CoD cycle to every 18 months instead of 12. That will give each of the 3 main CoD developers more time to make good games again.
@@randalica92 I agree. But if they kept the cycle of Treyarch, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer each studio would get roughly 4 1/2 to make their games. I think that amount of time could be great for those studios to avoid crunch, have time to polish, and give all of the “support” studios freedom to make their own games.
Let’s just hope to god we get another game like MW2019. Best CoD in years. Hopefully with the new leadership the devs will also get to spread their wings a little more too. Maybe getting rid of paywalls and definitely DESTROYING the ONE YEAR CYCLE. Let’s just hope. CoD is an absolute mess rn and maybe Activision will finally end the franchise but if they do it better be with a bang. MW2 could be a good place to stop.
Microsoft is doing another big step, but this does not come for free. For me, they are still tasting the happy moment of customers enjoying more games into the game pass. Although, at the same time, they are under pressure to release good games and show that these studios are still the same as we remember. These games don’t last forever, and new games are a must. There is a lot to prove, and I hope they correspond to the expectations.
To me the good news is, the more Studios MS buys, the less is left for EA to destroy. The best news would be MS buys EA and save those poor franchises stuck in EA's purgatory.
Personally I see T2 in the crosshairs. Imagine having GTA and COD IPs lmfaro xbox will be the home console for casuals which wether we like it or not is the 90% of gamers. This will flip the gaming industry and Xbox will be so far in front.
Praying Microsoft bring backs CoD and other Blizzard IPs that aren't looking too good st the moment back to their prime. Hopefully they can lower Activisions trademark monetization and rushed products.

The only difference with Microsoft buying them is that they won't come out on playstation now. MS didn't create any new games for xbox they just took away games and franchises from playstation. Actually it’s COD 2022 which will be MWll (sequel to MW2019) that will be the very last cod to PS users. The cod after that (Cod 2023 or 2024 or even 2025 depending if Microsoft delays it or not to give their devs extra time) will be the first cod to be xbox/pc/cloud/gamepass exclusive

Funny thing is, you only scratched the surface of the IP treasure trove they got with Activision. If they really start reviving dormant series, like Phil said, they could be having more games than any single person alone could reasonably play. With the Sierra and Infocom IPs alone they could be pushing out story driven games, that already have an established name in the business, for the next decade. Then they have Pitfall, which could easily become the next Uncharted, when done right, Metal Arms just screams for a new game, and maybe add the old one to backwards compatibility. Activision also owns Bizarre Creations, which no longer exist under that name AFAIK, but maybe the people are still there, so why not release a new Project Gotham Racing? This just goes on and on.

Sony started the “exclusive” war. Now Xbox is doing something about it, and you people complain?! Things will be balanced, as all things should be 🤣🤣
totally, consolidation is upon us, for better or worse and I'm not even looking at Sony to do something similar, maybe Amazon will buy some of the other big publishers
@@sweet0mistral
Sony had, arguably in all practicality CREATED their exclusives.
Firstly, it's incredibly difficult to micromanage many studios at once - yes, even for Microsoft, I know - and secondly , the acquisition of massive publishers drives out the need for competing with the other company, ergo the need for improving quality of games
For example, if Microsoft just flat out bought most of the significant game's and developers on the market, Sony has no way to combat that in all actuality, because Microsoft influence too large of a percent of the market, by buying all the studios Microsoft have essentially just driven out the space for Sony to compete.
Ever heard the saying 'Competition drives innovation'? Something along those lines..
If Microsoft doesn't have anyone to compete with, why would they improve? There's no incentive. In fact, it would be less costly to stay the same quality as no one has space to move to Sony if all exclusives are gone
While not likely, my dream would be to see Vicarious Visions resurrected as it’s own studio which works on its own projects.
That's the beauty or at least the hope is the executives at Microsoft understand the studios and titles and franchises they have on their hands and we'll do just that extra due diligence that activision etc just didn't want to do
Den go buy dem and do it. Oh you broke
Personally I think Xbox will allow all of these “support” studios to go back to be actual studios and make their own games. Move the CoD cycle to every 18 months instead of 12. That will give each of the 3 main CoD developers more time to make good games again.
@@AwwwBeanz a CoD cycle if 2 years is fine too, they could pull Sledgehammer off CoD and let them do something else.
Microsoft is doing another big step, but this does not come for free. For me, they are still tasting the happy moment of customers enjoying more games into the game pass. I like when MS/Sony buy independant studios like Insomniac and Playground and offer them financial security and the ability to create games they wouldn't be able to. Consolidatation is ruining creativity in Hollywood and now it may ruin gaming.
I really wish more people on TH-cam would talk about the older IP as well. There aren't a lot of Third-Person games people are ignoring, but the ones they are getting *do deserve* attention, too. Like...

call of duty 2023 main entry is the last entry for playstation... After that say bye bye to cod on ps 😂🔥🔥
@ödīñ ŵïlšøń yes millions
Yeah that's kinda crazy ain't it. Wouldn't be no skin off my back tho, I said bye bye to COD in around 2009.
@ödīñ ŵïlšøń considering cod vanguard and cold war were the two highest selling games on any platform in 2021 I would say cod has players
I think this year will be the last one then. Mid 2023 the deal will be done.
Fallout hurts the most
So this means, Crash Bandicoot, Tony Hawk's Pro-Skater, and Spyro are now X-Box Exclusives?! Or will they continue to go multiplatform?
They will be exclusive....
if there's any new entries into those franchises... Microsoft will most likely make them PC & Xbox exclusive. (As it'll be Microsoft first-party studios developing them and Microsoft funding the game's production)
They’ll be exclusive.
I know the older versions will all be on GAME PASS for sure. When the Bethesda deal was done almost all of there games showed up on game pass....Fallout, Doom, Elder Scrolls etc)
I think they’ll licence them, same for COD etc, they’ll charge Sony an arm and a leg to get them however so it’ll make financial sense and keep the fps player bases massive. Xbox could sell game pass across all platforms including PlayStation for the ultimate licensing win. They’ve got very deep pockets though so i imagine Sony HQ feeling some pressure - any more massive studios purchases from either Xbox or Ps this year? ….Time will tell
Great video!!! Very informative
Owning studios like bethesda, obsidian and zenimax was the biggest flex move xbox ever pulled on sony.
Sony: we have spiderman!
Nintendo: we have mario!
Microsoft: we have gamepass. 😂
Sony: we have golhen 9.00‼️😉😉😉
Definitely a W for Xbox. They needed it
Imagine how happy I must be as Xbox's biggest fan.
Im not xbox user but still happy for this 😆 ok microsoft whats next?
@@kjikj the campaign will most likely go exclusive. This is why ponies are crying. What story campaign games has Playstation shared with Xbox since buying studios? Let's talk about this.
@@kjikj other You got to leave it to FTC.
@@kjikj That's the whole point of it. Make it exclusive and more people will buy their console. Sony has been doing the exact same thing with their games. People buy Playstation to play Spiderman, God of War (which isn't an exclusive anymore) and such. Even if they lose players, they will gain more when people buy their console.
Does That mean That Crash bandicoot is Not coming out for playstation anymore??
It seems like I f*ck up choosing a console every generation
With acquisitions of Bethesda and now Activision/Blizzard, I hope we now get more quality Xbox first party games to compete with Sonys PlayStation Studios
PlayStation still dominates the generation
@@unicorntomboy9736 🤭
Compete? Lol
A lot of you don't seem to be realising it right now but Microsoft isn't thinking if Sony but tencent! There moves have always been for the long run sony haven't been thinking like that and eventually they are going to feel it.
@@Theemptythroneistaken Did this Tecent just appear out of nowhere or something
I want to see a crash/spyro ship for sea of thieves
The big part of Activision I am excited being owned by Microsoft is Prototype.
"sledgehammer the folks behind vanguard and world war 2" 🤣🤣
I'm sorry but there must have been a better way to say that.
Best games in recent time, I enjoyed, were small old school indie games . I got to the point that something like Hollow Knight excites me more than Call of Duty or Halo.
Check out dead cells, saltandsanctuary, hades, blasphemous, morbid, deaths gambit, carrion, ender lilies, chasm, curse of the dead gods, bloodstained, hyper light drifter, aeterna noctis.
Gamepass is going to be even more lit!
Sony: we got all exclusives and you got nothing haaaaa
Microsoft - Resistance is futile
Bring back Transformers: Fall of cybertron series.
You missed Guitar Hero as another major franchise that Xbox now owns, really hope they bring it back!
