His songwriting was so good from Day One -- absolutely loaded with details and specifics, yet so relaxed and conversational. Clearly a keen observer of life. I hate songs that just repeat the same verse or two all the time.
That was the time when J..C. sent me an Autographen picture of him and the Tenn. Two and a nice letter stating that He never had mail from Germany before! The Photo is still a treasure to me! 07/2022!
HEY PORTER!!!!.....just love Johnny Cash.....grew up on country music, but not Johnny....and coming from a hard core 60's era type music lover, I have to say I have fell back to country music.....and it's Johnny Cash!!!!
On this day in 1969 {June 14th} Johnny Cash performed "Hey, Porter" on his ABC-TV program 'The Johnny Cash Show'... Fourteen years earlier in 1955 the song was released as the B-side of his first Sun Records record, "Cry! Cry! Cry!"... R.I.P. Mr. Cash {1932 - 2003}...
"Feel that southern breeze" Breeze? What breeze? The south is humidity central! If you're on a southbound train and you can feel a breeze, you ain't in the south yet 🤣
Have you ever seen Bill Haley and The Comets with "Rock Around The Clock?" The Upright Guy climbs up the side of his bass and SPINS round! The vid was here on TH-cam...
OMG I just realized Im one of the few people who travelled across country on a train I went a cross Canada a few times those day are gone but may be coming back
@Cortexmelon Really? A sad thing, that Marshal had to go. I guess he irritated Cash by watching over him too much, which Cash probably found to be patronising behavoir, as far as I've understood. According to Grant, Cash was already back into pills again, which may also help to explain the firing of Marshal, I guess he wouldn't have done that if he were still straight.
Heather Tremblay you need to check your history, Johnny Cash fired Marshall Grant in 1980. Marshall then filed a lawsuit against Johnny, and Johnny filed a lawsuit against Marshall. Marshall then became the manager of the Statler Brothers and stayed with the Statler's until their retirement in 2002. Marshall and Johnny did reconcile their differences in the late 90s and remained friends up until Johnny's death in September of 2003.
Love the song. Personally I quit drinking seven years ago...anyone who brags about drinking normally looks like a wrinkled up paper bag by the time they're 40. Cash always looked like garbage, as talented as he was. You folks are the same. Take a good look some morning when you scrape yourself off of the floor. Cheers !
“We’re not so far from home, so take it easy on the steam.” Give me chills without fail every time!
why can't this be modern music
+2joke to me it still is :)
agreed, as long as we keep the classics alive, then its still modern, and it still lives on
Shut up loser
Because that require ppl to have common sense
@@fretburner101 one year later. And no.
This was my favorite Johnny Cash song when I was a kid. I still love this song.
Bob Neil became the second coolest person in the room!!
I'm from California and respect a man paying homage to his home. God bless Dixie!
I dont like how people these days only listen to rap and dont give other music a chance especially Johnny Cash
Might as well call it "Crap" lol
Old music will always be the best.
@@ChiSportsNut18 no doubt. Some of the noise I would not even classify as music

Never been to Tennessee, but now I wanna go there. And, I love trains, too. R.I.P., Johnny.

Just returning from a Nashville stay this song gives me the chills and fills my eyes with salty water ngl
As with all of my fellow upright players, we get way too into it. That guy is no exception 😂

Hey porter is an American song of the American Johnny Cash.
Johnny introduces "Marshall Grant" at 1:50.
maca paca that is an upright bass it is. played in all serious rockabilly bands
48 years old in this date.
Hey portar!!
@uglymoon78 Actually, i think by the time this aired, Marshall has been fired by then
marty stewart does a great cover of this from the johnny cash tribute album
daniel klodt
There's a great version by Johnny Cash on a Marty Stuart album. "Busy Bee Café"
Marty doesn't do any good cover of Cash. Leave the Cash covers to Nick Cave & Rob Coffinshaker.
Mynamis Mudd I have that album.
Good son eh, "Tango Charlie" Miss ya Dad !
❤
Like johnny said, hey porter was the song that started it all
Why can't they make music today like it was then 🤔
"Hey Porter"

I have to get a chance to talk to someone about the harmonica on TH-cam as Victoria Hinton.vics place of my harmonica
I guess things happen tha way lol
😎
Is Bob really Colonial Sanders , no coleslaw
😄
Hoping Zach Bryan’s new song brings the younger generations here so they can see what they missed.
Hey guys, what is that big instrument that one of the musicians keeps slapping? It's got a real addictive country sound, so please say :)
double bass i think
Maca Paca It is a bass violin also known as a stand-up bass or double bass
Maca Paca And you get the slapping sound by slapping the strings
It is a stand up bass and the player is Marshall Grant.
Edgelord2000 Upright Base
Nelson, it's a little more than a sentimental ditty, to me at least.
Jeff Daniels on drums?!?
That's what I thought too! Haha
That cut out is creepy xD
Who is nicer than Denise ?!? Marshall and Marie
Hey DENISE DIDIDENISE
Going by train sucks hard but not with Johnny Cash!

Kurtis Mair agreed
DAMN, finally I know who he reminded me of, THANKS!!!
I hate to tell ll of you but it wasn't marshall that left... Marshall with Johnny and June right up till he stopped purforming....
