  • The Shore Drive-In was Monmouth County’s “first” drive-in theatre. The Gala Opening presentation on 12 May 1948 was “Slave Girl” starring Yvonne De Carlo. Several plans to re-open the drive were considered since its closing in the early-1980’s, including the contruction of an indoor multi-screen theatre on the large open area of the drive-in property facing Route 33. The original area name of the Shore Drive-In location was known as Collingwood Park and not to be confused with Collingswood, which is located in Southern New Jersey.
    The screen was demolished on January 25, 2001.

    My wife's Grandma lived in Totowa. She always said that there was still part of the old Totowa Airport still around on the other side of 46.

    I'm 56 now in 2022. I remember seeing "The Poseiden Adventure" in 1972? Scared me! I remember the snack bar hamburgers were like cardboard!!

      @@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures I took a ride down the train tracks in Farmingdale yesterday on my TW200. Been enjoying your videos and revisiting some of the places you showcase. I grew up in Howell and lived in Monmouth and Ocean Counties my whole life. I see your success is in your van videos now, but I'm really digging your older exploring videos. Thanks!

    Hey Patrick, just wanted to thank you for uploading these videos. I really appreciate how they aren't edited or have unnecessary music to make the video suspenseful. Looking forward to more explorations!!! -Jason

    I used to work there when 18-19 years old, 1970. I'm too afraid of ticks to go in the bushes now :)

    Shore Drive in was on Rt 34 - not too far from the Fly-In Drive-in . I think both were actually in the area of Wall Twp that got it's mail out of Farmingdale. Went to both many times in the 50s and early 60s.

    Cool video, kinda sad. I love the drive-in. Still have the one in Warwick and the one in Vineland so all is not lost. Not surprised all the speakers are gone. They go for big bucks on eBay.

    Another well done video! It's great to document these places because they will be redeveloped and forgotten, just as you've stated. Just this past summer I've started to explore in a similar fashion. I usually have my bike with me when possible. I'm really looking to partner up with someone doing this sort of thing as it can be kind of risky going alone. how do you find out about these places?

    Just a walk in the woods. Showed nothing of a drive in but some rusty speaker poles.

    I went there with my family and we saw Swiss Family Robinson I think, I'll have to ask my sister, she would know. It was right off the Collingwood Circle. Not sure but I don't think the Exxon station was there at the time.

      I remember this place back int the late 60's through the 70's..... BTW, it was a small ESSO station back then. I think it was the early 70's that all U.S. (at least the 48 states anyway) ESSO stations changed the name to EXXON. I can still remember the constant TV commercials about it. It's still ESSO in like Canada & Mexico, I believe.

    Used to pass that drive in on the way to Wall stadium for the races. The story was that small planes landing at the airport next door had access to the drive in. Don't know if it meant they could view from the plane or just park and walk to some benches. That was back in the 50's. I am sure some locals could verify.

    It sucks that the screen wasn't still standing and the snack bar was posted no trespassing but it's still interesting to me! 👍

    Yes sir....those poles were where the car speakers were hung. A drive-in in Memphis, long gone now, where went as kids.....they handed the speaker to you as you went in. You then returned it when you left. Just a simple plug in affair.

  • @M78drivein
    @M78drivein ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you go out there and not film more of the exterior of the snack bar? You were already trespassing!

    Seems like your whole region there was abandoned when the aliens invaded back in the end of the 20th century. Stay safe, Patrick, and avoid those body snatchers, bruh.
