What's great about this lovely lady's recipes is that she isn't ashamed to use packet flavourings. So many other home cooks on You Tube use ingredients many of which you might not be able to get where you live or that are expensive. Cheryl is very much a realist when it comes to cooking and that is so refreshing. Well done and thank you for all the work you put in for your subs. x
You are a real down to earth cook, cans of soup, packets of flavor- these are what working class people use. We don't always have the luxury of time in making things from scratch.
Lovely! I do have a few standby seasonings for rich stews (juniper berries, star anise, celery salt and smoked paprika), but heartily endorse the can of soup method. In fact, here's a complete recipe for chicken casserole: take your chicken, add a tin of Campbell's condensed cream of mushroom and stick it in the oven. Embellishments will suggest themselves, but it's fine as is. Works with white fish too. 🙂
This looks so gorgeous! I wish we had British style sausages more readily available in the US. You’re sausages are far superior to anything we have. We have a butcher about 25 minutes away that does British sausages. I’ll need to pick some up!
Funny this Cheryl because I just commented last night on another You Tuber who was reviewing Asad yellow brand veg soup at 24p a can. My mam used to fry sausages and chop them up with diced potatoes and 2 tins of veg soup, then in a casserole dish in the oven. It was our best tea coming in from school 🙂
I have a 1.5 ltr Slo-Cooker, but tried a variation of this. I "cheated" using a Tesco's "Chef's Base" packet of mixed, chopped veg and a teaspoon of mixed herbs. I also used Tesco's Finest caramelised red onion sausages. It turned out a treat, a definite regular, although I may chop some veg, myself next time. But, that's what I love about Slo-Cooking, you can adapt the ingredients. All this costed just over a fiver and I got 3 portions (2 for the freezer) out of it!
The one meal will always remember from when I was small is sausage casserole, just out of a jar with mash. Always looked forward to it - PROPER comfort food.
I'm making this as we speak for the 2nd time this month! Everyone loved it last time. Adding a few little tweaks, sprinkle of chipotle chilli flakes, some oregano rosemary. Near the end a small tin of mixed beans and half a tin of rinsed baked beans instead of swede and parsnips. This with some cheesy mash will be a winner 👍🏻
I have a 2.5L Slow Cooker, unfortunately with a hairline crack in the Pot but I don't think I could get 14 sausages in it, even the thin ones but I love Sausage Casserole and I have used a ready made seasoning mix and also a made up one from a recipe that I cannot remember where from. Adding the Tomato Soup is a grand addition cos I add either Mushroom or Onion Soup ones sometimes to other Slow Cooker dishes. Must use good sausages though. Thank you.
Looks incredibly tasty and yum-atious! I'll be in Scotland late July, and I can hardly wait! One doesn't a lot about Scottish cuisine, and little one does, it's not so flattering, as it is with English cuisine. I was in the U.K. for nearly a month last September/October, doing the Wainwright Coast-to-Coast, trekking across Cumbria and Yorkshire, and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised and completely pleased with every meal I had. So no doubt that there will be much more to explore, culinarily-speaking, up in Scotland. This looks so easy and burn-proof that even I should be able to make it for friends and family.
Hi Cheryl: I have been a fan for a couple of years. You give me ideas for my dinner(tea) for which I am very grateful. One thing I have to educate British TH-camrs on is not to keep pandering to the United States. We in Canada get fed up with the constant pandering as if Canada does not exist. We call turnip and swede, Rutabega too as well as a myriad of other things. If you want to keep us happy, kindly refer to the whole lot as North Americans. It’s just the same with you lot. I never say English or Scot’s but rather British. Thanks. I’m now going out to get a tin of tomato soup and some bangers. Cheers.
Wonderful. Def on my to do list. You can't beat one pot Slo-Cooker recipes and the aroma, a few hours into cooking. I usually do mine on Auto for 8 hours and I usually flavour with Oxtail, or Cream of Mushroom soup. Nowt wrong with that, always tastes great! 😋😋
Visited again cos I bought some sausages a couple of days ago and thought ** ding ** Sausage Casserole and I have come for inspiration for the herbs. Also just watched a vid of yours again from a while back. I think the thicker gravy/sauce is better for this. Hope you had a good Hogmany.
Margaret I have same problem. Usually British sausage freezes well so buy a few packs at once. Go for pork contents of at least 70 per cent: very important. Can be stripped of skin easily if required. Here in south east Spain it's often difficult to find basics. Best wishes. And thanks to Cheryl.
Magic Cheryl😎👍‼️ For those folks with a cast iron Dutch oven, this one’s an autumn / winter classic for when you’ve got that garden fire going on a weekend afternoon 😍👍
Cheryl would you ever use on of them Campbells condensed tomato soup in this or you prefer the taste of Heinx Cream of Tomato better? Such a super delicious winter warmer here
Hi 👋 there. Well,it’s on the go. I’ve had to improvise because I haven’t got everything but essentially following this, particularly with herbs and soup and my own concoction as I don’t have the casserole mix .wish me luck 😃😁 xxxx
Your video just popped up...I have all the ingredients that were meant for another meal LOL...but this one looks better especially as here in Australia we are entering our colder months and this looks absolutely delicious...
Looks Beautiful 👍 Out of interest, do you have a recipe for a Beef Sausage casserole? Or can I just use beef sausages instead of pork? Keep up the Great Work 👍
How long would it need on low or a medium instead of high? Looking for something I can put in before work on a morning and come home to after, would it be too much on low for about 10 hours?
You could swap it out for the same volume of gravy? I would add a couple of tablespoons of tomato purée/paste if you’re using gravy though…just for a bit more tomato flavour ❤
I got the tomato soup, which is not widespread where I am now, will have to replace a couple of ingredients, but def going to try this amazing looking casserole! I wonder how much it needs without a slow cooker?
You could just make up some gravy and add that 😊 or failing that, someone here in the comments said that you can get the Coleman’s sausage casserole mix on Amazon…couple of dollars I think ❤
This is surprising. Most supermarkets have LOADS of packet mixes for all sorts of dishes - Colman's, Schwartz, own brands. Almost any of them would work in a recipe like this. As an alternative to packet mixes, see what jars of cook-in sauces are available - Homepride or similar, or own brands.
@@WhatsForTea that’s was first place I looked bit expensive $6 a packet 🤦🏼♀️I’ll keep cruising the international isles of supermarkets and world markets I might stumble on something.

I have just found your channel and am loving it, delicious meals that doesn't use over expensive ingredients plus slow cooker recipes.
A Staple in this Aussie household. Yum 😋 I use beef sausages though.
I have looked at this casserole mix several times but not tried it before. But now I've seen how easy it is I'm going to try it
Thank you Cheryl 👍

I usually use tomato purée but I’ll definitely try the soup next time round. The gravy looks rich and velvety. Scrumptious 😋

Certainly the weather for hearty meals.
Great idea! 👍 that’ll make it extra saucy! 😋
That looks lovely I'll need to get myself a slow cooker but can you tell me if it's energy saving using a slow cooker
we normally add red peppers and roast potatoes on the side, the tomato soup will definitely be going in now though 😋
Looks delicious, I'm definitely going to try that. 👍
Will defo try that. Thanks Cheryl 😊

That looks like a good recipe, I will make some tomorrow.
My mouth was watering as well definitely one I’m going to try x
This looks so delicious!! Great video and recipe. 😊
Never seen sausage casserole seasoning. Will have to try this with gravy mix
I would suggest adding a couple of tablespoons of tomato purée/paste if your using straight up gravy…to give the sauce a more tomatoey flavour 😋
Colman's available online for $1.50-3. 🙂

Out of interest, do you have a recipe for a Beef Sausage casserole? Or can I just use beef sausages instead of pork?

I am making this tonight, yum. Is the water you added cold or boiling hot? And do you let the sausages go cold before adding them to the slow cooker?
Wow! That's a great amount of sausage! And we always say this to you but your mashed potatoes look so creamy and delicious.
Yum. Thank you.
