I made this for dinner tonight and it was absolutely fabulous. I did have to add a cornstarch slurry to it to thicken it up a bit And it was marvellous
Oh....I can smell that cooking from here. Adding the peas to the stew is like adding whipped cream to a dessert, it makes all the difference. Tasty Tasty
Just had the stew for tea and it was delicious. Made like yours except for the potatoes and cooked it in slow cooker for six hours. Your recipes are always delicious. ❤️👍🏻👍🏻
Hiya Luv do the same that way I don’t have to watch perfect for putting on before work then enjoy when you get home in this chilly season. Blessings Ontario Canada 🇨🇦👋🏻
Okay, flour sprinkled OVER the beef as it's browning, instead of dredging?! That may be a game changer for me. I think I need to make this for Sunday dinner. Thanks, Cheryl!
The stew looks amazing, just the kind of winter warmer we all need at this time of year. Although, just thinking about it, to make it really special. I think I'd add a glug or two of a good, deep red wine to give it some oomph. 😄👍
Lovely 😍...I made stew day before yesterday but I add, carrots, potatoes, celery, leeks, onion, parsnip and turnip and cook in oven or slow cooker for 4/5hrs also serve with crusty bread and a dollop of brown sauce 😋. Merry Christmas Cheryl and family xx
This looks wonderful. We're in the middle of a snowstorm here and will not be going anywhere for a few days, so I'm definitely making this stew. Thank you for a perfect winter recipe. Merry Christmas!
Made this for supper tonight. Used gluten free flour and we enjoyed this thoroughly. Thank you so much for a great recipe which I will use many times in the future.
I'm making this right now for our tea, now going to simmer for an hour and a half then I'll pop the potatoes in. I'm really looking forward to it and it really does smell delicious 😋
Hi cheryl its 7.30 on thursday morning am just preparing this now and it's going in the slow cooker while am off to work its minus 7 hear this morning so hopefully when a come home a will have your gorgeous stew waiting for me just need to call the co op get some bread rolls and a jar of beetroot yummy thanks for sharing
Years ago I was watching Trisha Yearwood's cooking show & she told the story of her Dad always calling Worcestershire Sause, What's This Here Sauce. Now that's my go to name for that sauce🤣😂🤣
@@Beruthiel45 I own the entire CD set of Jeeves & Wooster... Very funny stuff. P D Woodhouse was one of the best, I listen to his audiobooks a lot also.
Just watching your recipes always makes my mouth water, and those "carrots at an angle" had me reaching for my fork! Have you tried redcurrant jelly for sweetening? It works particularly well with beef or lamb. And it balances the slightly vinegary flavour of the baby beetroots that I like to drop in about twenty minutes before the end!
Haha! This must be ESP!! Our Wee Bonnie Mum from Glasgow loved a good beef stew!! She added a few Caraway seeds but the rest of her recipe is just like yours! Thank you for this delicious recipe and the fond memories!! Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year from the Allens here in Thailand!! 🧑🎄🎄🧑🎄🐘🐒🌴🌴🐒🐘😄😄😄😎👍👍👍
Hiya Luv oh just made my beef stew the other day. I do find it changes slightly depending on what’s in the cupboard. No leftovers lol Thankyou blessings luv Ontario Canada 🐝🇨🇦
The stew looks delicious, Cheryl. I sometimes like to put the stew on my mashed potatoes. It's very good. We also love cornbread with out stew so we alternate with the crusty bread. Thanks for another great recipe.
I had the same meal more or less 2 nights ago except that I had the stew in a giant Yorkshire pudding and my peas were from a tin and I even made some extra gravy too.
Love a good stew with a thick gravy 😀 I made an oxtail stew a couple of weeks back. Mashed swede and spud on the side. 4 hours on the stove and about 10 minutes in the eating 😃😃
I made a stew that is very similar to yours about two weeks ago. It was more or less like my mother made. My great grandmother came from Scotland with her family when she was about 15 years old.. That was in the 1880s.
This looks absolutely mouthwatering, even at 8.45am!! My mum always used to add pearl barley, hence you could stand a spoon up in her stews! I'm a big fan of thick, stodgy stews. Only thing that got me was the salt. I dont add salt, i find it too overbearing. My husband is used to it now, but can add salt to his meal as & when. Beautiful meal. I'm going to cook a beef stew this weekend on the atrength of watching this!❤
Yeah, I know I'm a year late in finding this, but better late than never 😏. For me personally this is the best recipe for beef stew I've come across. You've explained it so well, straightforward and concisely. I can't be bothered with a lot of lengthy waffle, so thank you. Oh and btw, I have made it, and it's delicious 😋. Will be mooching around for more of your videos 👍.
Thank you for this recipe. Just made this beef stew and loved it. The southern US - Georgia where I live will have a nighttime low of -8 Celsius or 16 F. Food like this makes me feel warm and cozy.
Yummy : I think I will make that for tea on Saturday, however I may try shallots instead of onions. By the way Cheryle I have the greatest difficulty in the pronounciation of Horseradish
Ok a long story shortish. Being a frugal pensioner cooked this on overnight cheap electric in a slow cooker like commenter Maureen Brown. I am lucky enough to have a local greengrocer cheap, fresh, local produce and butcher (like you I can't economise on the meat there is just too much difference in taste). I put in a couple of baby potatoes to see if they would cook (they did). This morning I tasted it and thought it was wonderful. Hubby tried it and I am now a piece of meat and a potato down. He thought it tasted great too. Got enough for tonight's dinner and leftover to go in freezer for another dinner. Recommended!
Yumyum a nice stew for tea you could put a crust on the stew and make it into ameat and potato pie i usually do mystew in a slowcooker put everything in and let it stew for 4 hours do nice on a cold day served with crusty bread or beetroot or red cabbage love fran xxxx
Hi Cheryl Hope you are having a lovely day I just cooked your winter stew Wow it was wonderful 10/10 Even my fussy eater liked it He said he will like to have it again so that a big thing in this house Thank you for all your wonderful recipes and videos Have a great week . Di fro Tea Gardens NSW Australia
This is a similar style to American beef stew with the frozen peas. I reckon the Ulster Scots settlers gave America this! I like the addition of smoked paprika in this. It will be my next stew.
Luckily I had just eaten when that vision of lovelyness of the Stew came onto my screen otherwise you would have been able to hear my stomach rumbling 300 or more miles away.
I came up with an easy way to get people to pronounce Worcestershire or at least close enough by saying (with hand action) ''woosh (hand flying over head) stir (stirring a big pot in my arm) shirt (I pinch my shirt & pop it like I'm trying to cool down) but without the t because I drank it'' woosh-stir-shir just say it slowly but keep saying it faster until it becomes 1 word
Not only does the stew look delicious, but that bread looks dope!
It does doesn't it? Crusty Cob????
@@Demun1649
Nothing better than a nice crusty bread slathered with butter, just as Cheryl served.
I just wanted to tell you how wonderful your dished are and I just love your voice. 😊. Thank you!
I made this for dinner tonight and it was absolutely fabulous. I did have to add a cornstarch slurry to it to thicken it up a bit And it was marvellous
Oh yum!!! I can smell it from here… i need to make this cause my mouth is watering!!!😀
That would be wonderful on a cold winter's day, yum!
Lovely beef stew thanks recipe yummy,
Been making stews for years. Nothing nicer than a lovely beefy stew with crusty buttered bread 😋😋😋
I love how you pronounce "stew" like "stuuu" so cute
I like your method of flouring the meat. It saves a dish to clean.
Lovely just what you need on these cold days ☃️
I can listen to your accent all day. ALL. DAY.
Amazing recipe too. Going to make this tomorrow night. Thanks for sharing.
The stew looks absolutely scrumptious! Thanks for the recipe. I'll give it a go this week.
Yummy! Thank you for the recipe Cheryl!
It's always been 'wooster' in our house Cheryl, either way your stew looks delish (delicious) LOL 😀
I prefer doing a stew in the slow cooker. I always use gravy granules to thicken it at the end, gives it more of a meaty flavour 😋
Hiya Luv do the same that way I don’t have to watch perfect for putting on before work then enjoy when you get home in this chilly season. Blessings Ontario Canada 🇨🇦👋🏻
Yep slow cooker and beef cheeks with red wine yum!
Yep gonna make this soon. Winter comfort food! 😁
I'm loving the Christmas 🎄 intro xxx

My mom was not much of a cook, but this is pretty much her stew recipe, one of her better dishes. She often used a pressure cooker as a time saver.
Made this for supper tonight. Used gluten free flour and we enjoyed this thoroughly. Thank you so much for a great recipe which I will use many times in the future.
Thanks for suggesting the switch. I'm new to gluten free cooking so not very confident with the switching / swapping that needs to be done.
