Hi there, I am a Chinese girl who married a Scottish. I never managed a nice Scottish meal before I watched your video. My mother in law said the mash i made tasted liked, wall paper mixed with water. Seriously! I first watched your video of Mince and Tatties and I surprised my husband. He even doubted I bought the meal from a shop and heat it up. Since then I always go to your channel! Thank you very much. And your accent! Love it!

Bless your heart you try for your husband and his family. But Chinese cuisine is superior by far. Expand their palettes. No offense to Cheryl, Scottish is great for a cold day here and there when you need something rib sticking. But for day to day, Chinese is a lot of veggies and little bits of meat, lots of flavor, nicer for more nights nights in the week most of the time. Hopefully you can clever up some some good Scot Chinese fusion cuisine.

Browning the carrots onion shrooms does intensify flavour , so I'd highly recommend it every time.Just getting a bit of colour on them not only releases sugars but the slight caramelisation adds flavour in the same way the sofritto ( carrot onion celery ) does in Italian cooking .

Try a tablespoon or 2 of tomato purée instead of gravy granules which thickens and gives a beautiful rich colour.

Suppose you could also add some mixed ground black pepper to balance with the saltyness of the gravey?. I do that sometimes or, remove the lid and put on high for 30 minutes to thicken.

I've been living off of Sausage Casserole for about 2 months now. It's cheap and cheerful during these tough times. You can usually find some kind of sausages on the discounted shelves in the supermarkets. Today I got 48 Simon How Pork Links in Morrisons for £3.80 on the discount so I'll be on the sausage casserole for the rest of the week 🤣

“Easy peasy!” My beloved grandma used that phrase and others I now realise were Scottish. She was a Boardman from your lower border. My husband’s Scots were Irons from the Highlands. Thank you for another good slow cooker recipe. Yum yum indeed! Next on to Scottish Stovies Recipe. Jasper looks like our orange marmalade cat, Chess, a shelter rescue David picked out; his first pet ever at nearly forty; everybody’s favorite. He used to wake David in the middle of the night to tell him how much he loved him. Passed on some years ago, but stayed as a spirit kitty, if you can believe it. Do give Jasper some pats from us!

Perfect winter food. I’ve used a similar recipes before - but being Welsh, I like the pork and leek sausage. If you’ve got it, add some red or white wine (not much, just half a glass - just some cheap plonk, nothing posh) plus some garlic. Then I usually have it with some steamed kale and if not buttery mash, then fresh crusty bread. It’s really nice, and I like the idea of gravy granules to thicken it right at the end. I was using cornflour, but your method is easier, don’t know why I didn’t think of it myself. ;-). I’m surprised you didn’t use turnips with your potatoes, though. ‘Neeps and Tatties’. Which I really like.... I think in Wales we usually use swede and potatoes and carrot sometimes, not turnips (turnips more expensive)? Punch/paunch mike.... name sounds something like that..... lol. If you have any leftovers, makes a good topping for a baked potato the next day

Thanks for the recipe. I'm from the Netherlands and I love to hear you talk. :) Not sure what accent it is. Anyways I just got a slow cooker so I'm all videos about slow cooking. And I loved this one!

Cheryl, this dish for tea is timeless. Add some potatoes & you're golden.
