Same! My 6 month old is waking EVERY 45 minutes. She's supposed to have longer wake windows than a newborn. And yet....here we are. I've tried putting her to sleep awake and a little drowsy but she'll just play in her crib until she starts getting upset. Then she's screaming and crying. What am I supposed to do at that point? 😅 am I just screwed?
Another video that says "your wrong" &/or "that doesn't work" but gives absolutely no solutions. Doesn't even give approximate age a child should be able to fall asleep alone. So 25 years old? Only age I heard. So rock baby asleep until 25??? How about some productive solutions for parents instead of leaving them feel hopeless after watching.
Its interesting that all videos about "self soothing" being bad for babies have very low views. Yet there are many more videos about sleep training with millions of views. Why does youtube want us to believe we should sleep train?
You said based on evidence, but you just presented assertions. And what ages are we talking about. Yes our brains are developing, but you can not just generalize that as "they can not do anything".
Yeah but what if they're stressed from having to go to sleep in the first place. Our little girl can fall asleep only under the condition, that she is being held and lullied. Our every attempt at laying her down without her being fully asleep resulted in her crying and concurrently waking herself up even more. We want to teach not to be afraid of sleeping alone but we're afraid we're too deep and it could be stressful enough, to damage her.
My parents & most ppl in my family that I’ve seen always cared for the baby first when the baby is crying & trying to sleep. Ppl say “oh their gonna depend on u now” n all that other bs but that’s literally the point. How are you suppose to build trust with your baby if you’re not there for them when they need physical touch? as long as you practice confidence with your child when their young & older. There are also diff independent skills you could teach ur children. Your children pay attention to u more than u think. So I’ve noticed confidence & structure & just practicing daily routine might just have ur child telling YOU their ready for their own bedroom at the right age:)
Also, depending on how old she is (she sounds very young & possibly newborn) they have no idea when “sleep time” is or the concept of time itself 😂. Therefore it must be the energy (taking turns in a relationship helps like passing the baby back n forth if one of y’all is stressed) or they just not ready to gts.
@@youtubecommentator6023right. And if they did assess you have to take it at a certain time. Cortisol levels could have risen yes but this probably happens throughout the day as there isn’t a baby out there that never gets a bit stressed during the day! It takes a few hours for that cortisol level to lower. Depending on when you took the sample you may see it still high. But this has got to be the same as a baby who wakes often in the night, night after night, crying bc they’re not still in moms arms. Mom may come and rescue but the cortisol levels have got to have risen. So I want to know what cortisol levels were like compared to babies who were not sleep trained but woke often in the night.
To they can't self soothe. The can self regulate, which means they can learn to regulate there stress levels to soothe themselves to sleep. Boy do I feel like an idiot.
So they stop the way the respond to the stress by sleeping but you said they cant sleep when they are stressed? Also that is the definition of training you are doing soemthing over and over to get a result or learn something. So if a baby stops repsonding with crying and goes to sleep that is exactly what you were traing them for. which indicates they can self regulate. In your logic they wouldnt sleep they would just stop crying and respond in a different way because the stress didnt leave. Kinda talking out both sides. Same people that say kids cant be held responsible for murder because they arent 25 and the brain isnt developed to udneratand their choices yet turn around and let a fiver year old decide their gender for the rest of their life. Maybe your right maybe your wrong but i can tell you from my experience they responded just how i wanted. they slept and each night the slept longer.
... and the study she sighted suggested the baby underwent 'stress'... okay, so? We click on this video because we want to understand how to avoid the *harmful* effects 'stress' can have - *not* because we want to avoid *all* 'stress' - stress stimulates biological changes, whether you're talking about the neuronal connections of the brain and nervous system, or a bone remodeling from the pressures applied to it - stress is a necessary component to adaptation. So, while she demonstrated 'hey, you're baby's undergoing 'stress' when you take this approach,' she has utterly failed to demonstrate the negative consequence to that stress, and secondly propose an alternative strategy to avoid that consequence. I hate it when people use 'scary' words, like they know something at a higher level, to get a negative reaction out of people without actually explaining the mechanism. Shallow video.
... also... I can't help but feel there is a *tremendous* difference between a 25 year old adult calling a friend for comfort and stress reduction, and when a young child or infant engages in a more instinctive behavior... or when someone with AUD engages in a repetitive behavior to regulate their stresses for that matter. I think she's blending multiple concepts into one. You don't just magically start self-regulating, managing your stress and emotions at the age of 25 years old when the brain is fully developed. The question is by what mechanisms does a 25 year learn to self-regulate over a 25 year period? We're specifically asking about early phases of that process which she didn't even touch on...
Exactly. There's three types of stress and sleep training doesnt meet the criteria of toxic stress unless of course we are talking about Russian orphanages where the infants had no attachments nor did they get their needs met. Oh wait sleep training critics DO use babies from Russian orphanages to make their point 🤦♀️
Naa my yung one had the lazy eyes I kno he is tired and he started cryin. 4 mins later he was sleep. It sucks seein my lil man cry but I had to. He’s good at manipulating his mom tho
Babies don’t have enough brain function to manipulate anyone. They need something and are designed to cry when they need something. You are projecting adult traits onto a dependent being with one tool for getting its needs met: crying.
I’m laughing because as soon as the video ended, I’m like OK and what am I supposed to do now?😂😂😂
Literally just thought the same thing 😅😅😅😅

My parents left me and my siblings to self soothe/regulate and we all turned out fine

Did she mean 25 months ?
@anoriginalnick no she was saying that your brain finishes developing my the age 25. Look it up, it's true.

To disconnect babies from parents further
You said based on evidence, but you just presented assertions. And what ages are we talking about. Yes our brains are developing, but you can not just generalize that as "they can not do anything".
I guess we shouldn't expect our offspring to be able to soothe themselves or sleep until 25.. 😮🤦♀️

We used a weighted blanket to trick ours
explanation for a solution in this dilemma please.
When did researchers measure the cortisol levels after the baby fell asleep?
I just looked it up and they have to measure cortisol through blood, urine, or saliva....makes me wonder if they actually did test it.

Baby’s can’t manipulate there mothers ur selfish

Lol I think you misunderstood the point of the video
