    Wow, not even MAME can emulate that kind experience of being surrounded by the real machines.

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed. MAME is great but being in that place was pure magic. Just like my son I had a stupid big grin on my face while playing the Out Run cabinet.

    Wow! This place looks AMAZING. I'm quite speechless. It has a LOT of amazing arcade games such as Marble Madness (MY FAVORITE!), Tempest, Outrun, Super Hang On, After Burner, Space Harrier, etc. and even home console games. Now that's like a party, of I do say so myself. Another great video, Mark. Cheers!

    I love this idea. I always thought that this was the best way to bring back the arcades. Pay a flat fee and every game was open to you. I remember when arcade coin ops for a single play started to break that crucial .25 cent cost. Slowly over time, they went to .50 cents, then a dollar, sometimes more. Eventually, they got replaced with game cards like Dave and Busters and then most of the arcades just died off(except in Japan of course).

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the best way to brink back arcades for sure. Same in the UK regarding game prices. When i was a kid it would cost 10 pence to play a game. Then it went to 20, 30, 50 and then a pound.

  • @StRoRo
    @StRoRo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love Arcade club, is a great place. I'm lucky enough to only live 40 mins drive away and so can go quite often. Several of the games are circulated quite often so if go again a month or so later, there will be a few different ones. It is nice seeing it doing well too. A few months ago on a very wet Saturday afternoon, people coming in had to wait for people to leave to get in.
    The other floor is more of a grown up vibe. Its got about 20 high-end PCs, several VR systems, a number of modern Japanese games, pinball machines and home consoles. I think they will be taking over most of the building soon. I've heard they have got the 1st floor and are just waiting for people to move out.
    It is quite dark, but that's how arcades in the UK used to be lol, and its probably so the games look brighter.

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I can only imagine how many game machine that place must have if they are thinking of taking up another floor. If I go back to the UK again next year I'll be sure to check it out.

    Omg, that's so very awsome, here in the states at least in my state it's rare to even find a arcade anymore, I love retro games and this is like a dream come true

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe in the states there are one or two places like this but then again the stares is ten times bigger or more than the UK so only a select few can experience such great fun.

    That's how you know your arcade is class: Third Strike as soon as you walk in the door, lol. ^_^
    Also, there's a place a few hours' drive away from me in the American northeast called Funspot. It's located in a small vacation town called Weirs Beach in New Hampshire. The place is PACKED wall to wall with classic arcade games on the 3rd floor, that they call the American Classic Arcade Museum. If anyone is in the northeast, I urge them to check out Funspot.

    • @RetroCore

      Fun spot sounds like a sweet place to visit.

    • @SoftBank47
      @SoftBank47 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They've also had official tournaments there in the past, for pinball and games like Donkey Kong. If you watch the documentary, "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters," some of that was shot on-location at Funspot.

    I cannot believe I did not know this place existed when it is barely 20 miles from me! So glad you shared this, went down today and what an awesome place it was! To clarify the pricing, it is £10 for Adults, £5 for children on the arcade floor, then there is also an adults only floor with Bemani, PCs, VR, a few more arcade cabinets, pinball room a load of sofas etc. which is £5 extra on top of the £10. Will definitely be frequenting here quite a lot now.

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you went down there, Michael. It's an awesome place. Also, thanks for clarification on the pricing. When I went I was on holiday so I tend not to care about what things cost which results in me promptly forgetting :)

    Hey Mark, thats my local my gaff, Its £15 if you want to visit both floors and £10 for one floor. Andy is currently looking into another floor !!!. What night did you go, I might of been there 😀

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, I may have been there when you went. I visited on the 27th which was a Wednesday. We were here from 1pm to 6pm. I'm pretty sure I payed 5 for the boy and 10 for me though plus I accessed both floors without anyone asking for proof. Maybe if you want to play on the PCs you need to pay the extra 5 pounds?

  • @ThomasMatthewByrne
    @ThomasMatthewByrne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks Mark - great stuff! It's good to see the Western arcade still kicking even if it's in curated form. If you're back home again sometime and taking a trip across to Dublin, there's a cool little diner/arcade in Smithfield called 'Token'. Granted, it's not freeplay like the one in your video, but it hosts a number of classic cabs like TMNT and MVC and even some more contemporary ones like MK Arcade GP. The guys that run it also own a local retro gaming and record store in town called The RAGE and it's where I pick up the odd NTSC-J Mega Drive game from time to time - well worth checking out too.

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never actually been to Ireland which is odd since it's easy to get there from Liverpool. If I do go I'll check out that place. It's good to see people still wanting to run Arcade and game stores.

    • @ThomasMatthewByrne
      @ThomasMatthewByrne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Retro Core Yes, after years of the high-street shops being the only option for gamers outside of online retailers, it’s great to see an indie success story - especially here in Ireland, which only ever had the likes of GAME and GameStop. What’s been really interesting to see in addition to a burgeoning retro games market is the rise of local tournies. While the scene is mostly Mario Kart, SFII, and GoldenEye so far (I’ve yet to find anyone who’s into SNK fighters for instance) it’s a good start and hopefully a wider gamer community here can grow from it.

  • @dominichoc
    @dominichoc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Arcade club is Amazing, I go here whenever I can. People who live in Bury don’t know this place exists so it’s a real hidden gem. worth noting the top floor is only for over 18s on Friday nights, think the rest of the time kids can visit that floor. Also you can visit both floors for £15 otherwise each individual floor is priced at £10. Thanks for the video Mark, not enough people know about this place!

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only found out about it from a game developer friend of mine. So glad I had rented a car otherwise i never would have been able to make it there. It was also pretty easy to find. I've never been to Bury before but found it very easily driving from Liverpool.

The only thing I didn't like about your video is that it's very similar to your ninja videos back in Japan, but I understand that the circumstances don't allow you to film any better. Oh man this a TRUE HEAVEN!
    Wish here in Mexico something equally magic could happen (_ _ ) I really wish to play on a real Groove Coaster machine (Love that game, my only excuse to say Android games can be good).
    Also, Silent Scope EX is there! I have a machine of "Sogeki" near in the city (Will try to buy it) and I will say that game is really awesome and shows how Konami was a very magical company, alongside the Gradius games... And yeah, I can probably just play them on MAME, but trying to broke actual records, the sensation at the "wow" impression of people watching you doing something great is something I really wish I can do again... (I'm not even that old, just 18 years, but that sensation is always awesome).
    Great video just as always mate! Wish the best for you and your family! Hopefully your EU trip was great too, regards! :)

    Used to frequent amusement arcades back then, had a few ones in my nearest town and even in my own village, there was a cafe with a Final Figth cab, thinking of it, I was very lucky! But regarding your video, if I had access to something similar back then, where I only had to pay entrance for unlimited play, damn, that would have been both amazing but also maybe too much as I would have stayed there all day long like a frigging addict! But oh wait, that's what I was already doing :P

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you ever get the chance to see a place like this you should check it out. I'm now 42 but man, I loved being at Arcade Club. If I still lived in the UK I'd be taking the 1 hour drive up there at least once a month.

    • @ryzmaker11
      @ryzmaker11 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will add this to my "places to visit" list. I hope this will last, sometimes there are such things which suddenly open due to a certain hype but it doesn't necessarily last which is sad. These days things are so different though, only in Japan I can conceive that arcade games still get the attention that they deserve though I still see arcade cabs here and there in some places where I live, mostly in bowling alleys.

  • @shwink
    @shwink 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So many obscure games. Who knew that a working Konami Le Mans cab still existed. Most bizarre thing only one collector in US has a fully restored galaxy force 2 dx cab. Shame no one has attempted to make arrangements to tour the thing.

      Ah, I'd love to play on the full DX version of Galaxy Force 2 again. I hope some day in the future this place will get that along with the DX versions of Space harrier, Power Drift, After Burner II and Thunder Blade.

      Hehe. I was happy to see him playing Space Harrier. Took me right back to when I was a kid. I was the same age as him when I first saw Space Harrier in Alton Towers theme park i the UK back in 1985.

      No worries. I reckon this place has something for everyone.

    Although it's great that you pay an entry fee to play all the old arcade games for free which helps keep the place running, I do miss the old arcade machines being coin operated as that was part of the magic of going to the arcades. Do you feel that way too?

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really because most of the cabinets require you to press a button next to the coin slot to enter a credit. So it's kind of like putting in a coin.

    Thats such an excellent idea, one ive been pondering myself. I wonder if i started something like this would it be profitable here in the states? South FLA to be exact...

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you charge a reasonable entry fee and have a large selection I do t see why not.

      I would imagine it would be hard to make a decent living doing this, especially to begin with, a lot of these machines are old, some very old and they've had a hard life. A lot of these classics would be expensive to buy in the 1st place due to rarity, then you will have the added cost of restoration, CRT tubes whilst bullet proof do not last forever and any spares wold be dead stock so a finite supply, same with the dedicated control systems for certain cabinets. The PCB's would require attention too, I imagine a full recap as leaking capacitors or battery back ups could ruin a board that maybe virtually impossible to replace. You would need a in house dedicated engineering team to keep on top of these babies.
      The you have your other costs on top, I imagine a large space to stock your machines would be expensive from a rental perspective and these machines gobble electricity like Pacman munching its way around a maze.
      But I do dip my hat to the owner/s of this place, this looks like a passion and important museum dedicated to the early days of electronic entertainment , will have to get there at some point and re-live my misspent youth from the early 80's in arcades. Amazing venue indeed.

    Hey Mark~
    BTW there's an arcade here in the States that's similar to the one you showed us, but the games actually require credits, with the only thing being that here, you didn't have to bring any quarters with you, but rather you paid for your coins.
    It was also significantly smaller, in favor of better games (in my opinion better)

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what makes Arcade Club so good. One entry fee and everything is free to play.

    • @marioghernandez4960
      @marioghernandez4960 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is quite neat, but over in the one I just mentioned, there are a few titles that are more "hidden gem" than anything else.

      Retro Core, There's plenty of Arcades in the US that have entry fees and free play games. Two examples would be the Daytona Arcade Museum and the Silverball Museum. (both of which are in my home state of Florida) Of course they're nowhere near the size of the one shown in the video, but they're still amazing though.

      That's good to hear. Ithink this is the future of arcades now days. Pay once to enter then play for free. Makes sense since most of these games are old now.

    This is so cool. I wonder if someone hogs up a machine, how is that handled? Are machines timed per person?

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Machines are not timed but I'm sure I saw a sign saying to be aware of other users.

      Actually, looking at the awesome selection of games... It would be pretty difficult to just sit in one. It looks like the best arcade I've ever seen. Even better than the ones in Japan.

    • @RetroCore

      For pure selection this is the best arcade I've ever been to but I do feel its a little too dark in there.
