Thank you James and Kenny for the videos showing how to defend against, get away from, or if necessary finish the attacker. I've told and shown many people your videos and they've all agreed that everything is exactly what would and does happen and I can't thank you enough for all the eyes you've opened to the real world. Apologize for the length of this but just don't have the room to give you guys all the accolades you deserve.
This is very revealing and on point when the question is "Should martial arts be considered a good choice for personal self-defense?" I hope that this in-depth video answers some of these concerns. Could you share this good stuff with others and help everyone to make this world a bit more safe for all of us. Peace.
the idea of cutting at his hand-wrist was to stay back, keeping your vitals safe from being cut. All you risk is your hand/arm, IF you're fast. It works MUCH better with a baton than with a knife. or bare hands.
Thank you Professor and Kenny for opening our minds and our eyes. Thank you for the gift of awareness and for teaching us to cast off the trap of artistry and to dedicate ourselves to the truth of knowing the reality of any given situation. There are no words good enough to thank you for all you do.
"Black Belt information at a white belt level" Yes!!!!!!! I remember even as a kid in Martial Arts being so frustrated because I didn't understand why I had to wait for a certain color belt to learn techniques that I could use now. Especially when I picked things up fast and the techniques (if they were good) could save my life. This is what EVERY martial arts school should be like, you're technique is smoother than a party at Diddy's house🤣 Thank You Prof. James and Shihan Kenny for keeping it real.🙏🏾
‘One huge myth about knife fighting is the belief that no one stabs straight for the stomach because a real person would slash, never thrust to the stomach. The truth is that people do stab for the stomach. Back in the late 90s or very early 2000’s, someone tried to stab me in the stomach with the basic thrust that people say are fake and would never happen. Well it happened, and I countered with the basic wrist lock that you start learning on day one. I had been training in Kenpo for about ten years at the time.’
8:43 a million times Thank you. Not only will it not happen unless you have Super skill but it takes too much thinking. Experimenting, My nephew & I when we train blade we try to angle out/away, tap away, pass away etc and always try to strike, kick, (if we have blade we cut or stab, use any available improvised weapon etc. Avoid first. If you can't avoid, Run. If you can't run, hopefully find some kind of weapon. Last fight like heaven if only empty hands & feet. Always move, move, move. Note: this is all with the blade out, we must all practice against the hidden blade and look for signs/body language how to stash and deploy your blade and expect that a person has one etc etc. Sorry so long.
FINALLY! Thank you sooooooo much for pointing out those grip positions.so many of my previous teachers hold it that way. One time I worked up the courage to ask why. One stated so you can grip/grab if need be. Huh! ??? I don't know about you but I want full finger grip on the handle cause it can slip out whether from contact, sweat or whatever. Please do a video on the so called ' disarm the knife against the flat of the blade scenario. Mannnnn! That one drives me Nuts. How the Heck are you going to do that when the aggressor is welding the blade around fast, forceful and or crazy. Ugh! But most of my teachers train this move. Sorry so long.
Yeah nobody getn robbed or attacked and has time or even has a knife to pull out. Real talk. that arm with knife anf staying ouy there. when people stab its in multiples. All complainers about yelling. U aint gonna forget what he said. Keep on. I hope yals channel blows up. Imma share it.
(Not so together, this episode. And street work is of course faster.) But I like your saying, you teach, "black belt information at white belt level"! (IMO: Problem with the upthrust under the arm--bleeding v. difficult to stop, therefore, a lethal strike=CJ system problem.)
I would have thought it was obvious that in a violent encounter holding a knife with fingers sticking out, not wrapping them all around the handle for maximum grip strength, is stupid.
Would you use your hand to stop a saw blade from spinning..why would you give him your arm to cut... reaching for the blade..there not gonna give you time to grab the knife..by holding it out there the knife will be moving constantly and quickly..once you grab something to hold it you are holding yourself from striking..
What did you say is the main purpose of “inside the box” thinking? Training in ______ ? Motion and movement was it? What’s the use without personal protection?
It's all about intent, a message Tuhon Chris Sayoc drilled into me, we work in a similar manner to the point our live hand was always active the 3of9 drill in our system has that same level of lethality. Can we get, 27,000 likes/subscribers to get the channel over the 100,000 milestone, we're so close. Show some love. Remember your input about this channel's content is important.
I gave a thumbs up at this video. Your information is good, very good. But I have one remark. I live in Europe. Laws about knifes are very strick. One can barely cary a pocket knife that has to be opened with two hand without gard and blocking mechanism. That is why we have to think outside the box. One have to learn to see everything as potential weapon for self defence. Because people does not like to spend more than three minutes a day at self defence I learned myself to see a table knife, a fork, a spoon, but also a handy, a credit card, you name it, as a weapon. I teache myself (I am not in the business of teaching self defence) grossly two ways of holding a knife-like item in a thumbs up grip and a credit card-like item in a tweezers grip. For the rest I follow your instruction. Hi low - breathing, sight and balance - use both hands and feet and what do forget for the moment. So holding the blade in the thumbs grip up does not mean automatically that one limit ones possibilities in self defense. Finger to the side of the blade I do not practice.

Less is more...practical application.
Very well said sir. I'm a filipino martial artist myself. And what your saying is on point

Did that copper find out you carry a knife? What were his thoughts 💭 on that? Did you have to reiterate its within legal dimensions?

I second that, and thanks for sharing.

Your YELLING is ANNOYING!
