Because colossi are not evil, they used to be human beings when a curse (Dormin) hit them, also don't you realize that Malus probably asked himself, 'What's the point, I'm still going to die anyways.'
[The fun fact from Shadow of the Colossus] All of you are confusing what animal (or something) type of the Colossus is, right? The developer have a codename for it long time. Let's see! 1st. Valus: Minotaur A 2nd. Quadratus: The Mammoth 3rd. Gaius: The Knight 4th. Phaedra: Kirin 5th. Avion: Bird 6th. Barba: Minotaur B 7th. Hydrus: The Eel 8th. Kuromori: The Gecko 9th. My God... Just when i thought the Malus fight couldn't get more epic... Not only the update the music slightly, but the new lightning and graphics make this an absolutely stunning experience . Autarch of Flame, you need to see this, sire.
What an ending. Honestly the moment when the man drops the sword in the water to contain Dormin again, and Wander starts getting pulled back, while slowly going back to his normal self, and the music that plays when you kill a colossus is the saddest part of the game for me
Never seen a game play with the player’s psychology this beautifully before. This game has in incredible ability to really make you question your decisions and generates inner conflict over killing the colossi. You know you have to to beat the game, but it really makes you wonder irl whether or not your doing the right thing. It does something very few games have done successfully before: it really makes you feel like the villain of the story.
It feels messed up thinking that the only reason you are able to climb on Malus's hands is that he is covering his wounds in pain. I find this boss fight more sorrowful than epic.
Is it me, or Malus TRYING to help you kill him? It looks like he’s letting you. I guess it makes sense considering that you’ve killed the other 15 and he’s the last of his kind, so he’d wanna get it over with. He never once attacks you, the only thing remotely close he does to self-preservation is shake a bit, AND he holds out his hand for you to use as a platform, plus he practically invites you up to him, and at looks like, to me at least, Malus gives you and “Go ahead, get it over with.” look when you get to his eye level near the end of the boss.
@@Thirteen13551355 I know that Malus can't move his lower half and that he tries to shake you off. But, that's all he does. He could try to crush you with his bare hands, but what would the point be? It wouldn't bring his fellow colossi back and Wander had already come that far. Why not just let it happen?
One interpretation that I've thought of is that the colossi were built long ago as golems to house Dormin's soul. They were molded from earth and stone, and that's why when you defeat them they return to being inert soil and rock. Malus was one of the last colossi to be built, and that's why so much of his exterior is like scaffolding. He was bolted in place because he was the largest and most physically powerful colossus.
agro's struggle to walk and us knowing he made it all the way back to the shrine most likely covered in scars and bruises with only 3 good legs is perhaps the saddest thing in this game
bluecrystal rose Are you sure? If yes, where is your source? If he was the old man of the end, he himself wrong in supposing that Mono would bring a great evil, but it was he who brought him to kill her.
bluecrystal rose it’s Wander that’s the whole point of being able to control the baby...dormin was defeated but not permanently his female essence was used as a soul for Mono his male essence was absorbed into wander overtime but when they both got sucked into the whirlwind of light his true form was completely vanquished leaving only a fraction of his male essence in baby wander which is why wander has horns he was cursed ! ( hence the achievement ) bearer of the curse this is why there’s a baby in the empty pool because an infant is the most pure form of innocence... the whirlwind of light absorbed all forms of corruption including Wander’s adult body which was completely covered in corruption
it's BlueCrystalRose I'm talking about the baby. I know you can control dormin, but during the credits where wander is a baby, you can control his cries.
You know, despite the fantastic quality in the updated graphics, I preferred the older look in the ps2 era. The original had a darker and more hazier palette, with the obvious overuse of lighting in models. And I just think it fits better than the more vivid coloring of the overhaul. I say this because of the ending. Even though Wander has been corrupted and the Colossi are dead, life still goes on in the Forbidden Lands. The small speck of emotion and spirit, within the dark atmosphere from the original, was what drive this home for me. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with the new aesthetic, in fact I like it. I just prefer the original look that’s all. And before any ignorant people start ranting at me for being a stickler for graphics, *no* I’m not that kind of person. I’m just stating my overall opinion of the scene I mentioned.
4 years later, but I agree. The PS2 models looked so eerie. While the update looks amazing and much more cinematic, I'll always prefer the hazy crust of the PS2 version.
Ali Riaz No he's not, getting to the head can be VERY tricky if you don't play it well on its right hand. All that while your stamina is going bye bye. And don't get me started if you actually fall from him. And yes i have played the previous versions of this awesome game
The Grand Champion I feel you, your worst enemy in that battle is Agro: too slow at starting gallop, always gets hit by the upcoming lazers and then just leaves you there by running away
The controls for the damn horse mad me rage so bad. They need to tweak the horses movement and adjust how to maintain speed. No more bumping a small rock and coming to a complete stop and having to spend 5 seconds getting the horse pointed the right way.
Just hold the button down and the horse gallops at max speed no matter what. And when you're going in a straight line you don't need to do anything (like a real horse). It's nice how good the horse controls, actually.
Mordalon That's not the right thing to say. Agro will go where you want if you're proactive with the controls. Some of these games need you to spend some time where you're just testing the controls out. Things like "does wander move the direction that the analog stick points to in respect to the camera, or in respect to Wander himself?"
black manta Hold R2 (or whatever the grip button is for you) to swim underwater. It's faster than running. I've never heard anyone complain about that before, but I guess there's always a first
They slowed down Malus' energy bolts and although I like that there is a trailing sound effect to it, the sound effect just isn't nearly as intimidating or anxiety inducing as the original blast effects. The original was so freakin loud and it gave the attacks some real weight
Notice how malus instead of intensely shaking his hand once wander climb on top of him, he starts admiring wander, despite the game giving the impression is a monster that had to be sealed, being the tallest among the colossi and shooting fire beans at ultra speed like a mad titan, malus actually seems to be the most gentle among the colossi, and the most humane, once you get on top of his head he realizes what you are and what you gonna do to him+ what you done to every single one of it's "species" So he starts his last attempt to get rid of you making you fall off
The song that plays when the eagle flies at the end isn't the same. It doesn't have that big deep thump like it did before and that robs it of so much of the emotion it had in the original
They re recorded the entire ending I noticed. Those Who Remain is relatively untouched. Hope is actually slightly different (threw me at first thinking "hey, that's not the wa that goes") The Sunlit Earth is also slightly different. But kind of grew on me while watching.
When you're upset that you have to kill these gentle giants for your own selfish desires but you're so angry that Malus keeps on moving so much that you fall down several times breaking several controllers.
I hope they make a DLC that has all of the cut Colossus in it (as bonus bosses and/or with their own optional game mode) why? Because I would love to see them in action On a side note Malus is a lot more intimidating looking in this game!
pokedigijedi as much as I would love to continue the colossi slaying with all it's creative boss designs I still think a perfect masterpiece should remain untouched. This is not the kind of game that wants to keep it's "playerbase" entertained with future content additions. Yeah the whole scenery comes to it's full display in epic scale with it's use of realistic rain storm effects and the awe inspiring visual prowess of the PS4. BluePoint did a masterful job hands down.
Thats something only Team Ico can accomplish, Bluepoint can only guess what the AI would seem to be. Also the fact that it took Bluepoint a few months to actually finish one colossi's design individually, so if they have to actually look back at the design and actually make AI for the game. Also in a recent video, Bluepoint stated that they actually had to PLAY the game in order to re-design it entirely. Since the those 8 colossi were discarded, I don't think that would actually be possible. Even if it was, it would probably take them many months or a year to actually finish one discarded colossi.
I don't think it will happen. The cut colossus were cut for a reason. Either they weren't fun or felt similar to another colossus. Also multiple colossus concepts and designs were combined into the current colossus's in the game.
this game is just a big "what couldve been", having to search up how to beat every boss when even the guide in the game makes no sense is insane. Props to ANYONE who got here -> 5:00 without a guide and thought, "I should use my bow here!" Because using my bow while being flung around is something I was too stupid to understand. Don't get me wrong though, it's still an awesome game. Just alot of "man if this were remade it could be so much better." Every time I felt like I was understanding the boss, it would either fling you around for five minutes so you couldnt do anything, or require thinking so far outside the box I wonder why it was actually put in the game. Other than that this final boss was nearly perfect, everything I wanted after the long gameplay loop. Huge, amazing design, and intricate to defeat.
Because hes like a statue. Only moves above his waist. I was hoping he would walk or stomp around. Maybe a stage 2 of the fight. Just fucking toss you across the land. Lol
It might just be me, but I think the weather effects from the ps2 when against Malus seem a lot more intense then shown here on the remake. Also the frequency of fire bolts was waay more on the original. I got ragdolled plenty of times to remember. Regardless, both versions are masterpieces in their own way
Never got to play the remake but i did play the original on PS2 back in the day. This was my best game from that console and still is one of the best games of all times to this day.
Hidden away in forbidden lands, were giants of slumber and quiet rule, over every dominion there. A redeeming quality to this cursed world may have come with life restored, after all sacrifice; a great hunt of the slayer before the witnessing of the gods. Malus held a demeanor of conqueror and King; the ultimate tyrant, overthrown as the last fallen to fate.Tame to his destiny as he was. Routed altogether, with divine mandate from above. The journey felt to be an inescapable ordeal of powerful debt to supreme beings and their tectonic consequence.
Such a beautiful game that I gave zero craps about back when it was out. A real hidden gem. Makes me wonder about that "Ico" game. I should probably check that one out too.
When o first beat him on the ps4, i felt disponted it was just ducking and hiding and climbing I was expacting a grand battle with a massive beast who would vilently fling me around But know i realize that was pretty cool and is one last big climb to finish the game
Abakaxi 2D the end song is the same song but it was rerecorded or something, trust me, listen back to it with headphones and compare both(the song is called "sunlit earth" btw). The original features the epic drum thumps that shake you to your core but the new rerecording lacks that. I mean im not complaining really... but its just there was no need to change those specific things 😅
I noticed that. I have mixed feelings about some of the changes made in the remake. I can't deny though that this newest version will become my favorite version to play. In truth, all three versions of the game have many changes. Some are obvious right away, others will only be noticed by seasoned players.
I've play this once on an emulator and it still bugs me on why the Colossi with hands never pick Wander off their body or head and toss him out when he's climbing them. Still a great game though.
I can only imagine that would make the game more complicated than it needed to be; on top of fighting the odd controls of the original, fighting the camera, and fighting for good footing on various colossi, I don't mind that it isn't required of me to fend off their hands too especially when on the original PS2 the game couldn't hold a steady frame.
Sasayaku Chikage indeed which is why I think Mono became the queen in ICO it makes sense because the Queen’s goal is to collect horned children and Dormin even said that a lost soul can’t be brought back but it can definitely be replaced
IKR? At the start he said that it is possible to return a soul to a body - he never specified what soul he would return. Dormin never lies to Wander throughout the game
The Joker No he said a lost soul can't be brought back according to the laws of man. But with the sword it may be possible. He never said anything about replacing her soul. I literally just started my second play through so it's fresh in my mind.
Yeah, but this theory doesn't fit with the other aspects of the game. And it also doesn't work with the original. It's most likely a misinterpretation of the original source. Though they knew about Nomad Colossus, so maybe that isn't the case
When you started to climb him up and started to stabbed all of his minors , you realized that this big guy is innocent and you're the one who did bad thing to him
You’re fighting the controls more than the actual boss, I’d honestly forgotten how frustrating this boss was until I played the remake
You're supposed to work with the controls though. It would help a lot

Because colossi are not evil, they used to be human beings when a curse (Dormin) hit them, also don't you realize that Malus probably asked himself, 'What's the point, I'm still going to die anyways.'
What? They are NOT human, they never were. They are the pieces of Dormin that were sealed away, where the FUCK did you get that they were once human!?
I honestly think he should have just flung him off.

[The fun fact from Shadow of the Colossus]
All of you are confusing what animal (or something) type of the Colossus is, right? The developer have a codename for it long time. Let's see!
1st. Valus: Minotaur A
2nd. Quadratus: The Mammoth
3rd. Gaius: The Knight
4th. Phaedra: Kirin
5th. Avion: Bird
6th. Barba: Minotaur B
7th. Hydrus: The Eel
8th. Kuromori: The Gecko
9th. Basaran: The Turtle
10th. Dirge: Naga
11th. Celosia: Leo/The Lion
12th. Pelagia: Poseidon
13th. Phalanx: The Snake
14th. Cenobia: Cerberus
15th. Argus: Minotaur C
16th. Malus: Evis/Buddha
How is argus a minotaur?
How is dirge a naga??? Hes a desert worm if anything
Wtf is an evis?
Quadratus looks more like an ox.
My God... Just when i thought the Malus fight couldn't get more epic... Not only the update the music slightly, but the new lightning and graphics make this an absolutely stunning experience .
Autarch of Flame, you need to see this, sire.
SonicTheHedgehog17 I love how they did the flowing rain on the stone. It looks gorgeous.
It's upgraded it to one of my favorite final bosses now
Ikr
What an ending. Honestly the moment when the man drops the sword in the water to contain Dormin again, and Wander starts getting pulled back, while slowly going back to his normal self, and the music that plays when you kill a colossus is the saddest part of the game for me
Special thanks to Nomad Colossus. Never thought i see that name in the credits
19:30 *THIS IS AN ULTRA EPIC CUTSCENE*
Never seen a game play with the player’s psychology this beautifully before. This game has in incredible ability to really make you question your decisions and generates inner conflict over killing the colossi. You know you have to to beat the game, but it really makes you wonder irl whether or not your doing the right thing. It does something very few games have done successfully before: it really makes you feel like the villain of the story.
16:28 to 17:01 always gives me chills.
This game was my childhood
my uncles touching me was mine :)
Your a funny lad.
Dragon Smog you had a fucking amazing childhood my friend....

I'd be ironic if her cursed fate was to resurrect dormin
Well, it is
It feels messed up thinking that the only reason you are able to climb on Malus's hands is that he is covering his wounds in pain. I find this boss fight more sorrowful than epic.
Always thought it was awesome that the last colossus resembled a human
Is it me, or Malus TRYING to help you kill him? It looks like he’s letting you. I guess it makes sense considering that you’ve killed the other 15 and he’s the last of his kind, so he’d wanna get it over with. He never once attacks you, the only thing remotely close he does to self-preservation is shake a bit, AND he holds out his hand for you to use as a platform, plus he practically invites you up to him, and at looks like, to me at least, Malus gives you and “Go ahead, get it over with.” look when you get to his eye level near the end of the boss.
Charlotte Hobday Did you even watch the part where he tries throwing fire and stuff at you? And tries to shake you off when you stab him?
pLAY THE GAME AND YOU'LL feel HOW WRONG YOU ARE.
Yes, everybody. Malus does shoot lightning as you approach him, but he does next to nothing once you actually get to him.
@@TheDusty321 Not much for him to do, as he isn't the most mobile thing. He still tries to shake you off though.
Imagine if Malus can walk around chasing you.
Malus was the hardest boss i fought. Took 2 hours to beat him
He's fucking bullshit
I personally thought he was the easiest
@@flyingeagle2883 it's easy if you can roll, climb, shoot, and stab.
None of them are particularly hard, just annoying like Basaran

agro's struggle to walk and us knowing he made it all the way back to the shrine most likely covered in scars and bruises with only 3 good legs is perhaps the saddest thing in this game

That hardest thing about Malus... he aims where you will be rather than where you are or were.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Also loved how they remixed "Prayer" as well! This game is a true masterpiece.
when wander turns into a baby, you can control him. you press the buttons and he'll make a cry sound.
Stephen Isaac it's not Wander, it's Dormin
bluecrystal rose Are you sure?
Wait wat
19:31 that groan gives me the chills
While the update looks amazing and much more cinematic, I'll always prefer the hazy crust of the PS2 version.
this fucking boss has cost me 2 controllers
I stopped playing the game for awhile at this boss. Way too hard and frustrating.
Lol, this actually makes me feel a bit better. Thought I was the only one getting my ass kicked. Playing on hard probably isn't helping.
What? He was so fuckin easy
I don't speak english but.. This Soundtrack... This Battle... This boss... Is.. Beautiful 🔱🚀
I can remember how much I sweated and shock, just getting to the top of his head to deliver the final blow, real heart bounding moment.
The controls for the damn horse mad me rage so bad. They need to tweak the horses movement and adjust how to maintain speed. No more bumping a small rock and coming to a complete stop and having to spend 5 seconds getting the horse pointed the right way.
Daniel Pochop don't steer her, she'll avoid everything herself, you only need to turn her in different directions
Just hold the button down and the horse gallops at max speed no matter what. And when you're going in a straight line you don't need to do anything (like a real horse). It's nice how good the horse controls, actually.
Aggro not immediately turning when you say helps her feel like a real horse.
I've never heard anyone complain about that before, but I guess there's always a first
For anyone who doesn't know this is a prequel to a game called Ico it's a really good game go check it out
ICO is an infinitely better game in every single respect.
Lee McDaid - Guitar okay, and?
well, Shadow is much better for me
Let's get a remake of ico now that this was remade
Lee McDaid - Guitar Gameplay wise, Sotc is better imo, but I was more emotionally invested with ICO
They slowed down Malus' energy bolts and although I like that there is a trailing sound effect to it, the sound effect just isn't nearly as intimidating or anxiety inducing as the original blast effects. The original was so freakin loud and it gave the attacks some real weight
EK OddLink
Exactly! That was pure adrenaline haha
I consider Malus to be the largest video game enemy we have truly fought. Not some cinematic QTE and cutscenes to watch but a real fight.
Phalanx is actually quite a bit bigger, according to the official artbook's size chart.

The soundtrack makes this so much more badass.
Notice how malus instead of intensely shaking his hand once wander climb on top of him, he starts admiring wander, despite the game giving the impression is a monster that had to be sealed, being the tallest among the colossi and shooting fire beans at ultra speed like a mad titan, malus actually seems to be the most gentle among the colossi, and the most humane, once you get on top of his head he realizes what you are and what you gonna do to him+ what you done to every single one of it's "species" So he starts his last attempt to get rid of you making you fall off
This collosus is a giant living tall castle (if you look at the bottom of it) and he is the king of all collosi.
This game seems amazing with such a deep story
The song that plays when the eagle flies at the end isn't the same. It doesn't have that big deep thump like it did before and that robs it of so much of the emotion it had in the original
The music was recreated with Kow Otani supervising the scoring this time as well, so I believe the different music at the ending was his choice.
They re recorded the entire ending I noticed.
Those Who Remain is relatively untouched.
Hope is actually slightly different (threw me at first thinking "hey, that's not the wa that goes")
The Sunlit Earth is also slightly different. But kind of grew on me while watching.
Kysen Osburn alot of the music and sound in the ps4 version comes a bit wrong to me. Because of that i enjoy the ps3 version more
It's like he's helping you to defeat him.
Wow the graphics on this is INSANE. I've seen the trailer but in game graphics looks even more better
When you're upset that you have to kill these gentle giants for your own selfish desires but you're so angry that Malus keeps on moving so much that you fall down several times breaking several controllers.
That camera is so good you guys! 11/10 artistic masterpiece!
I hope they make a DLC that has all of the cut Colossus in it (as bonus bosses and/or with their own optional game mode) why? Because I would love to see them in action
On a side note Malus is a lot more intimidating looking in this game!
pokedigijedi as much as I would love to continue the colossi slaying with all it's creative boss designs I still think a perfect masterpiece should remain untouched.
Adherent of the Sun i think that is load of bulshit, they made this game over the original
something like that yes
I know Malus is not responsible for the bridge falling and Agro going with it. But Damn, i made every sword stab feel like he was.
One of my favorite games of all time.
I know its batshit crazy but I loved this boss fight more than all the others

do they explain why malus was never finished he seems to be the strongest colossus ever
What do you mean?
Because hes like a statue. Only moves above his waist. I was hoping he would walk or stomp around. Maybe a stage 2 of the fight. Just fucking toss you across the land. Lol
It's not that he was never finished, it's in his nature to be stationary.
Saru2191 his nature? That's deep. He didn't choose to be stationary. He just exists.
no, his feet is fixed on the ground guys...

Thats because its a hawk.
When o first beat him on the ps4, i felt disponted it was just ducking and hiding and climbing
I was expacting a grand battle with a massive beast who would vilently fling me around
But know i realize that was pretty cool and is one last big climb to finish the game
The ending song was changed :/ and the hawk doesn't make a sound at the end :(
really sad. I aways loved the ending song
The ending song iss the same but yea the hawk does'nt make the sound...
Wander Tasogare 7 I think i remember that but my headphone is broken soo i'll have to trust your words...
I noticed that. I have mixed feelings about some of the changes made in the remake. I can't deny though that this newest version will become my favorite version to play. In truth, all three versions of the game have many changes. Some are obvious right away, others will only be noticed by seasoned players.
The music tugs at my heartstrings 💔
I've play this once on an emulator and it still bugs me on why the Colossi with hands never pick Wander off their body or head and toss him out when he's climbing them. Still a great game though.
Amuro Ray bcuz of art,art person way of thinking were "different" and that's exactly what they try to implement here.
It would become Dark Souls not SotC
Have you even played Dark Souls?
it might be that they have extremely slow reaction times given their gigantic size and wander simply moved too fast for them to grab.
The original's sound effect of his magic cannon sounds much more terrifying. Like a thunderbolt blasting near you.
Huh. So it is confirmed...Dormin did put a piece of himself in mono. There is no female part of his voice anymore
Though they knew about Nomad Colossus, so maybe that isn't the case
landing in his hand after you killed him was a nice touch
When you started to climb him up and started to stabbed all of his minors , you realized that this big guy is innocent and you're the one who did bad thing to him
