my 29-year-old girlfriend also recently found out that she’s autistic and she LOVED drama queen by sara gibbs. it really helped her with all of that difficult processing! unmasking autism by devon price is also a great resource
congrats on the diagnosis ally!!!! i’ve been going through a similar journey since i got diagnosed with adhd at 21 last december. it’s confusing, it’s scary but trust me, this diagnosis completely changed my life for the better. i’m working on so many new projects, i know how to navigate my own brain and i’ve been able to unpack my traumatic experiences through brand new lenses. you got this, bestie! we’re in this together _opens hand for you to hold whenever you feel overwhelmed_
Now I want to reread Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. I get what you mean by how there wasn't really a need for all the flashback. Super super valid, especially how deceptively long that book was. I guess it's just something about her writing, or how I like seeing how so many small things in our past have influence on our present, that made me enjoy the book. (or maybe it's just my inner Psych Major geeking out hahaha). Regardless, I'm just glad that you gave it a read c: If you do try to return to therapy, I wish you the best of luck in getting a good one. I know how it feels to have utterly useless if not downright horrible therapists, but a good one is life changing. Truly. Sending you some good vibes ~
read No Bad Parts! it’s written by the same doctor but it’s less textbook and more digestible. 🥰 I love IFS and would absolutely recommend this book to anyone else interested!!
Omfg I soooo know what you mean as far as now having the huge and tedious task of processing years of interactions and experiences with the new lens. It feels like a full-time job and the oldest, weirdest memories come up. It’s really exhausting but also really cathartic sometimes! “Shadows”looks amazing- you always find the prettiest and most dynamic graphic novels :D
Truly, my Sundays are better because of your videos, Allison! Thank you! The Shadows sounds amazing and it reminded me of one my favorite reads of last year, another graphic novel in fact, called The Arrival, by Shaun Tan. Don't know if you've read it or heard of it, but would definitely recommend. Hope you are doing well! Love from Brazil!
This was my first month being a part of the book club and I had so much fun!! I can’t wait to read Betty this month. Also congrats on your diagnosis!! I am self diagnosed autistic and hoping to get an ‘official’ diagnosis someday. I appreciate you sharing with us! 💕
Ally!! Would you ever do a tattoo tour? Plus, also, an apartment tour?😊 I know it’s not fully “bookish” but I think I speak for all of us when I say we care about all aspects of your life that you’re willing to share!
i found your channel in june and you instantly became a favorite booktuber of mine!! i’ve been having a really rough time recently with my mental health but whenever i can just sit and watch one of your videos i’m at peace again :)) thank you for all you do and i genuinely hope everything is going great for you
Go bestie go bestie goooo! Every Sunday I roll over in bed and like clockwork I check the time and immediately come and wait to watch your upload 😭 you are such a refreshing light, I love hearing your excitement over books and your well spoken critiques. And what amazing news on your diagnosis. I can understand how good it feels but also a little confusing and there is so much more to come, so much more to learn. this new journey of knowing yourself will be so hard but so so worth it and I wish you nothing but the best of luck on it
Ooooo Feelings looks sooo good! I love things about season changes and how that goes along with the way our feelings and mood flow throughout the year. Adding that one to my TBR for sure! 👌
the problem I had with 'in my dreams I hold a knife' is that it's not a thriller, not really. I love thrillers, I'm an avid reader of thrillers. so for me this was just a little bit of mystery. nothing wrong with that, but the way this book was marketed lead me to have unreasonable expectations..... and this happens all the time. so many books that are actually mystery books get marketed as thrillers or shoved into the 'mystery/thriller' box.
Sunday made! Another upload from Ally! I love every minute of your videos, but I think one of my favorite parts has to be your reactions while reading a particular book. All those emotions skittering across your face! Pure gold.
Congratulations on your diagnosis Allison!! I was diagnosed with ASD at the age of 19 and having that knowledge has helped me so much. Thank you for talking about your experience and recommending a good book on the subject. I'm still trying to understand what my diagnosis means for me and reading is my favorite way to do that. So far I've only read Divergent Mind by Jenara Nerenberg and I liked it a lot but it feels more like an overview and I want to go more in-depth :)
Love that you’re trying out longer videos ✨💜 and uploading more every month. I also suffer from chronic migraines, so there’s a motivation to read Seven Days in June. Be well ☀️
so excited every time you upload! i come away from your videos with so many new books on my tbr, and i find your enthusiasm for reading so infectious!! :D also, congrats on your diagnosis! i am a twenty year old woman currently analyzing my past experiences through an autistic lens and having some.. thoughts haha. it’s comforting to see a content creator i respect and admire going on a similar journey to myself. i wish you all the luck in the future, and hope your diagnosis brings you some peace and clarity
I love your reviews of books and the journey of understanding yourself and self-growth that I think many of us strongly relate to. I am 28 and beginning my journey to being tested for autism and what sucks the most is hearing “we don’t do adult autism diagnosis”… what?!
right? some places only focus on children ☹️ i’m sorry that the diagnostic road is so difficult. it was challenging for me to find adult diagnosis possibilities in english out here. i wish it were easier for all of us🌼
i always love watching your videos because it just feels like being with a friend and chatting about wonderful things. you're always such a positive light and sundays have quickly become my favorite days since finding your channel :)
Congratulations on getting your diagnosis 🥰 It's something I hope to get someday. Thank you for all your autisic book recs both in this video and before. I've found both books with autistic characters and non fiction books about autism super helpful as a source of both comfort, understanding and information. ❤️
I got my autism diagnosis last year (I'm 26) after struggling for YEARS so I definitely relate with your story. I'll definitely check out that book you mentioned, I have been looking for a book too haha. Also definitely check out thirsty mermaids by kat leyh (author of snapdragon)!
Hi 👋 I’ve been watching your videos for ages and always find them so comforting like I’m chatting with a friend. I’m also autistic, I found out when I was 19 and I know exactly what you mean. I think you are an amazing human being and your videos always make me smile. Also I think I saw you on a Instagram reel where you show a guy called Ed.people your favourite dance move ‘the wiggle’ it came up by chance but audibly went ‘hey it’s ally!!!” It was an elite dance move ☺️thank you for being you
I’m so happy for you that you have a diagnosis. I really feel not knowing what is going on is sometimes worse. Thank you for posting another video. I Am always delighted to watch your videos and I love to bask in your joyous presence.
i've been trying desperately to (maybe??) get an autism diagnosis for almost three years now and it really makes me feel less alone to hear about other people in their 20s getting diagnosed. thank you for sharing!
ugh i just wanted to give you a hug hearing you talk about finding out about your diagnosis 🫂 i’m sorry it took so long but so happy you finally got there 💕
i have been trying to understand myself more too because the last few months ive been realizing that i could be autistic so the book you recommended sounds perfect !
in my dreams i hold a knife was a very fun time!! i was very proud of myself for guessing who did it even though it was totally a random guess lmao. also another congrats on your new diagnosis and love your new haircut!!!
Can you try “The Dead Romantics” by Ashley Poston for me 🤣 it’s on my TBR but I just want to hear someone else tell me what they think. It sounds so good.
my 29-year-old girlfriend also recently found out that she’s autistic and she LOVED drama queen by sara gibbs. it really helped her with all of that difficult processing! unmasking autism by devon price is also a great resource
the little “yay!” i just let out LOL nothing gets me excited like an allisonpaiges upload notif 😌
