  • After changing the oil and resetting the service indicators on my wife's 2012 Audi A6 3.0T Prestige I ran a routine VCDS scan of the entire car. Much to my surprise, there was a stored code (P0693) which referred to Fan 2 - Short To Ground. I did a quick lookup of the fan figuring maybe it had died. My initial search result showed the price of the fan from Audi was an eye-watering $2070. What ARE they smoking!?
Since that was NOT something I was about to just throw money at I dug a little deeper and found that there are two 40 Amp fuses under the cowl area that relate to the engine cooling fan (i.e. Fan 1) and the A/C system fan (i.e. Fan 2)
If your car is overheating, chances are that it is fan #1 that is the culprit, or rather, it could be the fuse for fan 1 which is in the fuse box under the cowl and sits closest to the firewall. Fan 2 is used for air conditioning, and signs of failure there would be AC that works OK on the highway but doesn't seem to be cool when sitting in traffic.
If you are lucky, it might just need a new fuse or two to get you back in business.
40 Amp fuse PNs from Audi are N-104-249-02 (two of them if you want to do both)
No affiliation but AudiUSAparts.com sells them for $4.77 each.

(Thank you Audi Minneapolis for being criminally overpriced.)
