I am an artist living and working in France. I learned the techniques of the Atelier of the Nineteenth century and now I try to share some of my knowledge with the rest of the world, because I think that beauty still has an important role to play in artistic creation. I do mostly drawing and oil painting, and my goal is always to provide techniques, thoughts and explanations that can be useful to anyone, from beginners to more advanced artists.

The mirrors are a great idea. Thank you.
I put my easel on a board with wheels so I can move it around to 'follow' the light in my place and move it out of sight of guests.
I also put a narrow, height adjustable shelf under where the canvas sits on the easel. I have my palette on it and some thinners and brushes. The board the wheels are set on under the easel holds the tubes of paint and paper towels. Works well for me. My palette is an old framed, glass picture frame with changeable coloured papers to go under it. I can put tape along the edges where the frame meets the glass to prevent oil and thinners from seeping under the edge of the frame and under the glass.. I was surprised at how well it works.
    Thank you for sharing this.

I’ve seen artists on Portrait artist of the year use mirrors to get a different view of their paintings. I always wondered about that. Your new studio looks amazing

My 'studio' has lots of things in it that don't relate to my art and it's crowded and messy. Time for a deep clean and reorganisation. Thank you for the tips Florent and may you have many happy hours painting in your lovely studio. Love from the Southern Hemisphere :)

Thank you for these 5 tips, Florent. I appreciate your first floor with a place to store the paintings.
For my part, due to the lack of space dedicated to painting, I have found the solution of a rack with picture hangers very practical, but it quickly becomes limited. I would like to have an attic or a room where I could let go my arm without fearing for the walls... grey or otherwise

My "studio" is just a tiny spot next to the window in my tiny studio flat me and my girlfriend share :D but this is a great reference for the future. Some things even already apply. I put all of my art stuff that I don't regularly use into a cabinet and only keep the essentials on a small coffee table next to the easel. It's so much tidier now.

Wow! You have a great space, mine is 7 ft wide by 49 ft long which is also my laundry room, my cats space by my window and my art storage. Thankfully huge windows facing north but when patrons want to see my studio, I refuse because it isn’t a beautiful space like my art.
One day, I’ll afford a proper studio and office 😊

And here I am fumbling around in the corner of my living room. I don’t have room for anything more than a small desk with a table easel. Getting a studio is very hard out here. For all the artists studios you have to apply for it and write a businessplan. Who ever writes the best businessplan gets the studio.

Lighting is a problem for sure. Artificial daylight colour lamps are fine when natural light is inadequate but if painting late, as you do, it also upsets natural circadian rhythm which is very poor for health. I generally aim to turn them off by 8 pm for that reason.

I wanted to let you know your choice of neon (florescent) lights in your studio is a problematic health choice. You need to research this issue. Many NYC office building have gotten rid of them for this health issue. They disturb normal body vibrations or something like that. All the best!
