They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I have learned a lot of them in this series, Felix. Thanks for showing me new ways to use a tool I have carried for 50 years.
Felix Immler is still the King of Swiss Army Knives . I've been carrying an SAK for 54 years and used the "up and down" can opener method . Just now tried this method on a can of soup and it worked better after sharpening the can opener . Thanks Felix for showing this old dog new tricks .
I’ve been doing it wrong for 50 years. Now I feel enlightened... not sure how I didn’t realize you could spin the can instead of the opener... and I pride myself in coming up with alternative methods and uses for almost everything. Nice! 👍🏻
Impressive technique. In this moment i have a bottle of wine in my belly. I think that is not a good idea try to open a can. Better tomorrow. A hug from Chile, southamerica.
You’re a legend! You get me so excited to make the most of my precious tool, a teacher par excellence, easy to understand and described from every important angle. Much gratitude 🙏🏾
Next level stuff Mr.Felix...seriously I hope SAK people understand how valuable you are as a spokesman for the brand and see that they should be compensated you! Hope your most excellent this evening my friend thanks again for sharing your knowledge! Cheers, Jerbs 👍🏼🔥🔪🔥👍🏼🤓
Dear Felix, I know im a bit late but congratulation to your huge milestone here in youtube to reach over 40'000 subscriber, yes that's pretty cool and well deserved my friend, thanks for sharing this clever high speed technique!!! take care, Taro
I love this video, and I am grateful that I found your wonderful channel. I would like you to know, that recently you made a very profound impression on some army buddies of mine with this video. All of them are proud owners of Victorinox swiss army knives, one of them has had his since the Second World War. And NONE of them knew you could open a can that way! To say the least, they were all very impressed after seeing your technique. Thank you! The look on their faces was precious!
Victorinox should employ you, traveling the world doing demonstrations on how to get the most out of their incredible tools. They are not just a pocket knife they really are a tool. Another great wideo felix, and I mean that in a nice way my friend. Australia.
I lost my can opener during a renovation, and ended up with a sore wrist by using the original technique. I'll definitely remember this tip. It looks even faster than using a regular can opener, and more durable.
Sweet Jesus Felix that was fast! I love my victorinox knives. Carried one as a kid.... went to leatherman for a good many years... and am back to the trusty victorinox for good. Love your videos. I’m so glad I subscribed this channel! I did a video a couple weeks ago where I completely blunted the main blade to my outlander, then sharpened it in the field, sharp enough to shave with. Victorinox builds the absolute best survival multitools period.
Then brace yourself. 99% of people who use a normal can opener, the one that cut open the can lid, use the can opener wrong! They place the can opener on the side of the can and cut the inside of the lid open, similar as you see it in the video above. The correct use is actually to place the can opener flat on the top and cut the outside under the lid around the can so you can lift off the upper part without dirty hands or messing with the sharp edges. It's documented in the patent papers of this type of can opener as the example on how to use it.
@@thepurplesmurf Can you give us the patent papers than please. My SAK had a very small paper with instructions how to use the can opener. (I dont know why they do this. Anyway...) And they show the exact same standard technique as in this video. I wouldnt call things wrong when even Victorinox say you have to use it that way.
Woooowww Félix!!! Me he quedado 😳.
Felix excellent. Never seen that done b4. Outstanding idea. Also, loved all vids in the series so far and learnt quite a bit more about the SAKs. Keep the faith.
When using the conventional method, rather than moving the opener forward on the tin after each punch, I find that it works better going backwards, since the opener is only facing resistance until it reaches the area where the can has already been punctured. Less resistance equals better experience.
Excellent technique. I would open the cans "top to bottom, top to bottom" and I was very tired and did it badly. But with this new tip it will be more cans than a string can opener.
Perfekt...
This is my 2nd time watching your video..and I already love you...you got me on your coconut and glass breaker video..i wish you all the best...thank you for making me smile..
A great video. I've used a lot of can openers in my day, but the one I keep going back to is one that's like those on Swiss army knives. It's on Craftsman electrician knife that I bought back in the late 1960, over a half century ago.
Diesmal wusste ich ja,was auf mich zukommt....also deine einmalige Technik. :-D Peace Stephan
Never thought to try it that way but if I can make it work then it will be a transformation and the end of the dedicated tin opener in the kitchen - Felix does it again!
You've got the right idea!!! :) I accidently discovered this method and I've been zipping across cans like it's nothing! I'm glad I saw this just now. Thank you!!
My father has at least 2 of these knives, I'm not really into pocket knives more into daggers or bowies but I have to admit that after watching some of your videos the skills you have with this little knife completely changed the way I saw it (my father only uses it to cut mushrooms it doesn't take a lot of skills 😂) so yeah it won't replace bigger knives and it's not a fighting knive but in survival having also 1 of these can be life saving if you know how to use it. WELL DONE & PURSUE YOUR PASSION
Your technique is berry berry fast. I am rarely that hungry yet good to know. I have opened many cans of jack mackerel the old fashion way while fishing to make chum.

😊 LG, Robert
Weird tip for gloves, maybe: i bought some 'garden gloves' which is a combo of leather and stretch material. They protect and fit 'like a glove' and give max grip on everything. Very light too. Was about 5 euro at intratuin (dutch garden center)

Aufhebeln ist auch gut... LG
I consider the old Wenger can opener faster than the Victorinox, but I've never tried this speed method before. I'm gonna try it out!
Excellent video! It really shows the usefulness of the can opener 👍🏼
That was truly brilliant! I too never knew you moved the can instead of the tool!
