Is it really? You're right, it definitely doesnt look like a good hold.. I thought they were going to put like a U shape pin in the 2 holes from the top to give it extra hold
@@frankierzucekjr you probably could put something there but it won’t add that much strength. The locking is done by the large pin at the back of each coupler that drops behind it as it closes. So while it looks like it opens once it hits that pin it’s not going anywhere.
TH-cam must have this listed as a cat video, as it seems all of us are getting this video in the cat video stream lol. It's not a bad thing at all, just seems like a weird coincidence.
@@TheTruthKiwi If the coupler breaks, the air is released from the brake hose and applies the brakes. (Although this did not exist in the early days, which resulted in carriages full of passengers careening down hills.)
Why does it have the hole for the link and pin coupling but doesn't have the gap in the middle to actually fit the link in? Not having the hole would make the coupler... "finger" stronger surely?

The amount of weight those couplings can take blows my mind

I love that bell sound..

To think that they used to be held together with just a pin an loop of metal
I know right
The exerting force is on bigger pivot. The small pin only to keep it from sideway opening.
Really, it's as genius as it sound

Still is the norm in someplaces.

Your welcome!
Bro are you from Bikaner?❤️.
I am also there.
Me? If so, no.
I would have thought there might be something to fit into those two holes as well. Just that pin by itself seems a bit limp
I’m not even sure myself.
Yeah, like that's all that's stopping a carriage full of passengers going careening down a hill.
There are dynamic brakes and emergency brakes as well.
