I wake up at 5am on school days! As a high school teacher we start earlier, but I find myself being more productive in the morning. I usually get to school by 6 to lesson plan or grade until about 7:30 when students start to come in. Weekends I tend to sleep in til about 7-8
I wake up at 5:45 during my school week and get to school around 6:30-6:45. I would use the time to clean my desk, make copies, arranage my student desks. I only get to school early to do work and do not stay after. My students start coming in my class at 7:45.
I wake up at 5:30 every school day, and I just sit and relax for 30 minutes! I’ll drink coffee, read, watch TH-cam, etc. and then I get ready for work and I’m in my classroom by 7:15ish depending on the subway. I like getting to work early so I can get everything done and not take work home with me!
Good job for sticking with it! I’m naturally a morning person! I love how quiet it is in the morning and I can get so much more done. I’ve changed to doing all my homework in the mornings! Hope you enjoyed it at least a little :)
I wake up at 5:30 on weekdays and 6-6:30 on weekends. However, my 4 kids wake up shortly after that. I spend 5-10 minutes getting me ready, and then I am getting them ready until we leave the house. I do try to get to school by 7 because my students get off the bus at 7:30. Unfortunately, I get nothing productive done at that time. I have given up all caffeine as well.
When I was in high school - specifically my junior and senior years - I woke up at 5:00am every day...and didn't drink coffee. It was unsweetened green tea for me. Bizarre to think about now! But for going without coffee, I'd recommend drinking herbal tea or some other warm drink in the same way you would drink coffee in your regular routine. Beyond the caffeine, I know a lot of people who find some comfort in the sort of daily ritual of drinking something hot to start the day. Good luck!
I am a morning person. I can also take naps easily. I’ve read that morning people get their deep sleep in the beginning of the night, where night owls get their deep sleep at the end of the night. That idea is consistent with your inability to nap, and waking up groggy. Good job doing something that was very challenging for you. You are driven and tenacious!
Way to go Michelle 👍I knew you could do it.It seemed sort of difficult waking up at 5am but you did it for the whole month. Thanks for sharing your experience
That's probably not the healthiest thing... unless you're going to bed at like 7pm it may be a sign your body is not producing enough melatonin. If you are going to bed at a "normal" time and are only getting a few hours asleep I would see a doctor as soon as possible.
Now I’m waking up at 5 am for a different reason,I’m a student who in high school virtually and theirfore i wanted a routine that makes me super productive and by that i mean fitness wise,i wake up,I stretch and i work out until 6:30 when i shower, get ready, walk dogs and eat breakfast before school at 5 minutes till 8 so I’m waking up at 5AM for that reason.
You are a better woman than I am! I no longer work but I have never had to get up so early. I don’t even think I could do a teacher schedule. I have been thinking about trying to get up when the sun rises because I’m retired and there still things I would like to get done before friends and grandchildren start demanding my time. Props to you for sticking it out and forgetting your priorities straight
I've been waking up at 6:30am lately which is earlier than I used to wake up. I might try to wake up at 6am now. I used to set alarms for 5:30 but I'd always snooze until 6:30 anyway. Good luck with no coffee! I can't live without it, so I want to see your success without it! Can't wait for that video!
One of the things I am most nervous about becoming an elementary school teacher is waking up early, but your videos help me see how I can make it happen!
I have to wake up 5:00a.m because i have be at my classroom by 6:00 so that i have more time to plan out my assignments and get the materials prepped for the day
Throughout student teaching (where I had a 50min commute) I woke up at 4:45 each weekday morning... I ended up spending entire weekends in bed because I was so exhausted. Major props to you for doing it on the weekends!!!
I stopped drinking caffeine a month ago due to some stomach issues, and I truly did not think I would be able to survive it...but.. after the first week of headaches and withdrawal 😳, I’m completely fine! Friends have commented that my mood is better and that I seem to be overall happier. I also noticed that I wasn’t crashing in the afternoon where I would normally require another caffeine pick-me-up. If I can do it, anyone can!
I get up every morning for work at 5:15 am. It’s tough. I used to get up at 6:15 and it made a difference. Great job on getting up that early on the weekends. I sometimes get up at 5:30 on the weekends (not on purpose of course, 😂) and then go back to sleep 2 hours later. Seriously though, good luck on no caffeine for the entire month of March. I will pray for your fiancé, your students and anyone else you interact with. 🙏🙏🙏😂😂😂
I am naturally an early riser... even as early as 4 a.m. Thought that would be different when I retired...NADA nope... but I do not go to bed till about midnight... The entire month of January every year, I am caffeine free... the first three or four days are the worst. This year was the first year to have caffeine headache withdrawals. Then, I would get this spurts of energy without the caffeine... I am 70 now...still get up that early but love caffeine.. :) Good Luck girl.. this is more of a challenge than early rising.
Wow great for you. I work up at 5:30am for Highschool because I live an hour away from the school. Had a van pick up me an other kids. My school started at 7:50am. I am glad this work out for you.
I'm the opener at the daycare I work at so I have to be at work at 6:00 every day. Which means my first alarm goes off at 4:20. I am a morning person by nature but it still was an adjustment when I switched to this shift. Wasn't till the other opener said she went to bed at 8:00 p.m. that I realized I need to shift my night time bedtime to make it work. Now years later even my night owl husband is in bed by 9:00 most nights.
I am the opposite!😯ever since i was a kid. I have always woken up early naturally. Now days i am up by 7:00 to 7:15 all on my own without any alarm at all. ⏰ as a kid i think i was up by 6. And always the first one up. And as a result i am still a napper. As a 32 year old women without children. But i do work Monday to Friday.
Love these monthly challenges. I am an early riser too. Last year I got up at 4 every day, but now that I have moved closer to my job, it's 5 am for me. I truly CAN get so much more done when no one else is awake...I have two children, so once they wake up, there's a lot to do. Can't wait to see how you do on the no caffeine thing. I have never gotten into drinking it, but know how hard it can be on people who do. Good luck! I think I am going to make my challenge this month about exercise. You have that one down! I was wondering if you are going to be sharing any thing about activities you do in your classroom. I really miss the inspiration for classroom things. I know you are no longer allowed to share from your classroom, but could you share things you are doing in class from your home? Thank you for the continued inspiration. I have not missed an episode since I first found you!
Y'all are ADORABLE!!!😍. I have been trying to become a morning person forever. It is HARD though! As an introvert, I crave the alone/decompression time at the end of the night once my babies are in bed.
Doing a monthly challenge myself too for 2020. My purpose is to build good habits daily and weekly. I gave up tea and coffee for lent 5 years ago. Being Irish not drinking tea can cause offence. During those 6 weeks my dad spent 3 weeks and 3 days in hospital so i was really tested.
I have to wake up at 5am for work on regular school days. If I don’t get to sleep in on the weekends I feel so exhausted the entire next week. I don’t know how you did it, very impressive!
I wake up at 5:15 every morning and I feel like I am dying. Get to school at around 7:15 and then I plan during first period. I tend to go to bed around 11-12... It is tough. Maybe after 10 years I will adjust!
i worked in a cafe for about 6 months in 2019 and worked the morning shift, meaning my work day was done by 9:30am! i ended up leaving that job because it conflicted with my life but i do miss that feeling of having a whole day at 9:30am
I thought you would want to get up 5am weekdays and sleep in on the weekend. If you prepare foods in advance on the weekend you can get home early and spend time with Billy
Such a great idea! ✌😊 I am so like you, so it's inspiring that you did it! Monthly Challenge sounds so workable! ❤❤❤ I will start tomorrow, and let you know how goes! ALL THE BEST TO ME! 💪😊🙏🙏🙏
I actually started a while back where I decided not to keep any caffeinated drinks in my house, because that is typically where I would drink them in the afternoon. I was really surprised how few caffeinated drinks I could survive on; don't get me wrong, I still crave a soda or tea every now and again, so if I'm out dining with friends or eating out, I will have one if I feel like it. I've never been a daily morning coffee drinker though, so I have no idea how that'll go - Best of Luck!
I am more of a mid-morning person. I can sleep in usually until 8-8:30am and sometimes 9am. I wake up at 5:30am everyday and work with preschoolers. Monday’s and Friday’s are my long days (where I work all day). It gets really hard sometimes waking up at 5:30am everyday
Always awake at 5 am. Mother of 3 and elementary teacher. I workout and get to school an hour early to work. I don’t want to use my home time for work stuff. I want to spend time with my family.
No caffeine for a month? Girl, bless your heart! I've never been a coffee drinker, but I was very much addicted to diet sodas. When I gave them up, I had pretty bad headaches for a few days. Once I got through those first few days, I was okay. Keep some Ibuprofen with you for about a week, and drink lots of water. Both of those really helped!
Hi! I was wondering what are the books behind you? I can see Rules, Fish In A Tree, and Out Of My Mind which are all books I've read and really enjoyed! I don't think i could do this 😂😂
Omg!!! MICHELLE without coffee!!! Well I thought the same (I been drinking cafe con leche since high school) and I stop drinking coffee this February and I feel great I'm on free caffeine Tea now but just for comfort 😉
Yep, definitely a night owl as well, but I am trying and would like to still get into the habit of getting up at 7 and needing to go to bed at like 9:45. ❤️Aaron
I am definitely a night owl. I find that even if I wake up early the time just goes so fast that it feels wasted and I don't get anything extra done. So now I just stick to getting up at 8 to be in my classroom for 8.30.
What time does your school start? My students can come to my room at 7:15 so if I don’t get up by 5:30 I’m going to be rushing. :( I hate how early it is!
I've been caffeine free for a year this month. It's only difficult for me when I go out to eat because I realize how many drinks actually have caffeine and how few caffeine free options there are other than water (I'm practically a fish and this is all I drink really)
I wish I could sleep until 7. I have to be up just a little after 6. However, I do get to school early and get a lot more. I don't have to take nearly the work home at night and can enjoy my evenings. I guess it works.
Hi Michelle- Why not "collect" the habits as the year goes by? So continue leaving at contract time, waking up at 5 and then add in the March Challenge? Then continue for the rest of the school year.
I think it’s based on her results. The contract time she said because billy finishes work later it didn’t make sense for her to leave right away because they go to the gym together which is right by her school. So she stays until they meet at the gym now. And waking up at 5 she just explained that the sleeping schedule didn’t completely work for her and Billy’s time together but she’d be willing to do it once in a while to boost productivity. :)
I completed my monthly challenge of leaving on contract time every day at 6pm with the exception of one day (had patients until 630pm). I’m like you trying to do the no coffee challenge during March!! I know your results will be better than you think. I say this because something I have learned especially in my race training over the past year is that will power is such a powerful tool, and you have so much will power and positivity that it is infectious. I cannot wait to see the results and follow you on this journey!! I will be posting on Instagram throughout the month!!
This is just timely! I usually wake up around 7:30 and would like to be truly “Early Riser”. I’m just curious how productive I would be if I wake up really early like you. Enjoyed your video and motivated as well:)
I wake up at 5am on school days! As a high school teacher we start earlier, but I find myself being more productive in the morning. I usually get to school by 6 to lesson plan or grade until about 7:30 when students start to come in. Weekends I tend to sleep in til about 7-8

I find myself doing the same thing. I like reviewing my plans by reflecting on the previous day.
I wake up at 5:30 every school day, and I just sit and relax for 30 minutes! I’ll drink coffee, read, watch TH-cam, etc. and then I get ready for work and I’m in my classroom by 7:15ish depending on the subway. No coffee 😱 That would put the lives of my husband , kids and students in jeopardy... Good luck!
Yep! I wouldn't try that. Dangerous idea...😁
I really really miss primary school

when do you go to bed

Leaving school on time every day~totally. Waking up at 5 am even on weekends~eh. No caffeine~ Oh hell NO!

I wake up at 4 am every morning to workout and eat a healthy breakfast!! 💪🏻🍎
Hi m ichelle. I will join you. Waking up at 5 am for the entire month of march. Wish me the best. I am not a morning person.
How is it going so far?
@@emmanoel4876 not Good. Day #8 and cannot get up early. Will start again tomorrow.
You could wake up at 5 am during school weeks and sleep in on weekends.

Try having some tea. Then that way you get the warm drink comfy feel as you transition off coffee.
First i love you Michelle you are so inspiring
Hi, I also teach kids in Seoul, and love to see how other teachers in the world are so passionate about school and kids 💕
My dad wakes up at 4:00am

It's a huge deal to quit coffee, as a regular drinker. Godspeed.
I actually started a while back where I decided not to keep any caffeinated drinks in my house, because that is typically where I would drink them in the afternoon. Hi there Teacher. I love the idea of monthly challenge.

Dang. No caffeine. I’m a morning person and don’t like caffeine, but your positive pants are on. Good luck!
I'm a morning person and I LOVE the early mornings! I can't get anything done after lunch. I'm just done.
I love your schrute farms sweater!
No caffeine for a month? Girl, bless your heart! I've never been a coffee drinker, but I was very much addicted to diet sodas. When I gave them up, I had pretty bad headaches for a few days. I don’t feel the need to give up caffeine. But you go, girl!
Hi! I was wondering what are the books behind you? I can see Rules, Fish In A Tree, and Out Of My Mind which are all books I've read and really enjoyed! I don't think i could do this 😂😂
I’m proud of you! Good job! I worry about your challenge for March. 😂BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU CAN DO IT!!!❤️
Good luck with the no caffeine 💗💗💗
I work for the South Carolina School System and wake up is at 4am and to be at 8pm!! When the weekend starts it kills me.
🥳 ConGratUlaTions 🎉💖🥰⭐️
Omg!!! MICHELLE without coffee!!!
Well I thought the same (I been drinking cafe con leche since high school) and I stop drinking coffee this February and I feel great I'm on free caffeine Tea now but just for comfort 😉
5 am is my weekday norm 😳
Yep, definitely a night owl as well, but I am trying and would like to still get into the habit of getting up at 7 and needing to go to bed at like 9:45. ❤️Aaron
Great effort! My #teachermonthlychallenge video of trying Mindfulness for a month also comes out today!
I am definitely a night owl. I find that even if I wake up early the time just goes so fast that it feels wasted and I don't get anything extra done. So now I just stick to getting up at 8 to be in my classroom for 8.30.
Need to get some Hot Tea. Rooibus is really good and is caffeine free.
L Bernshouse oh it is! And it’s amazing with oat milk 😊
When you see "Fish in a Tree" in the background 🧐😂
Your Schrute Farms shirt is sooo awesome!! I love the office!! I love your shirt!! #theoffice
I’m a homeschool mom of 3 and a classical conversations tutor can I still be apart of this?
I could do the 5am mornings, but not the coffee thing. You have my condolences. 😂😂
No caffeine...easy peasy. I never drink it anyway. The 5am thing...ugh!! I should try it though.
Your sweater though!
What time does your school start? My students can come to my room at 7:15 so if I don’t get up by 5:30 I’m going to be rushing. :( I hate how early it is!
Ugh I get up at 4:15 every day and I wish I had two hours to do stuff. I have a 45 min commute and I get to school at 6:30
Seriously? No coffee? Don’t do it. Challenge yourself to something easy. Like juggling knives. But don’t give up coffee.
March... expect your headaches to return, at least the first week.
My family or co workers would never allow me to go without coffee 😂
I used to be a morning person until I started student teaching four years ago lol
you can do it! there are some tea's that have caffine in it!
I've been caffeine free for a year this month. It's only difficult for me when I go out to eat because I realize how many drinks actually have caffeine and how few caffeine free options there are other than water (I'm practically a fish and this is all I drink really)

Does that mean you can drink decaf coffee? Lol
Georgia Thomsett even decaf coffee has some caffeine in it! That’s what I was told when I had to have surgery and had to give up all caffeine.
:)
I would never EVER give up coffee.
Meanwhile I'm getting ready for a sleep study because I might have a sleeping disorder. Hah!
I love Billy
Lovely video! good on you! But is it me, or are your glasses in regards to the leopard print fraying and losing the darker tone from usage?
coming from some who wears glasses all the time myself id love to have you do a thing on it.
+Pocketful of Primary
Michelle,

This is just timely! I usually wake up around 7:30 and would like to be truly “Early Riser”. I’m just curious how productive I would be if I wake up really early like you. Enjoyed your video and motivated as well:)
Where you taking stuff to help you fall asleep at night that early?
