    How bad does the obsession with appearance in SK have to be that this guy literally escapes to the place with the smallest Korean population out of fear of judgement? That's so messed up...

    • @minae.d4540
      @minae.d4540 5 ปีที่แล้ว +134

      @@jsk2691 I agree completely, and you know what? It's just insecurity. Nobody feels good about their self so they have to make comments about other people to feel better. They probably hate how charming and confident this guy is. Like "how dare you have self confidence when you don't even fit the standard!". If my parents offered to pay for my plastic surgery as a "gift" I would be heartbroken.

    • @minae.d4540
      @minae.d4540 5 ปีที่แล้ว +191

      I must also add, the hosts of this show are kind of hypocrites. I think so because whenever someone comes with a concern regarding their appearance they will say things to comfort them like "looks don't matter" or whatever, but when someone comes with a concern that has nothing to do with their looks they judge them on their appearance. Like that guy who came in with a problem regarding his jealous girlfriend and they felt the need to point out and laugh at his "unnatractiveness". I just think its wild. Let's be nice to each other people.

      Not just in Korea, it's worldwide and no one's fault for how they were born. I realized that I'd always be short in middle school and that's when I stopped growing at 4'7. It's really hard to seem like an adult or parent in front of people when they think they're talking to a kid. And I agree about this show, a person has a complaint about their looks and as they come down the slide, the hosts will point out everything or agree at first with what the guest is upset about. They were a little nicer in this one just because they don't want anyone to think badly about them for outcasting one of their own.

      honestly, i used to like watching hello counsellor, until i thought seriously about some stuff that they talked about, that were more heavy in weight than others, and the way the hosts and audience members or others reacted sometimes. and i realised that it made me uncomfortable that they played off issues that really should be taken seriously and dealt with professionally and not on this show that's mainly meant to entertain.

    Edit: you all need to chill and focus on the second part of my sentence which said "under all the pretty things". I mean everywhere EVERY SINGLE PLACE has darkness in it. BUT we all know these ahead like we all know these and don't envy meanwhile Korea doesn't seem to be dark with all the pretty things on the outside like idols and dramas and even news don't show the bad sides MUCH. even on this program you can see that they all try to laugh it off they don't really care because we are manipulated to think Korea is the best in the world which we all should know it isn't. There are a lot of racist people there, sexism is the biggest issue body shaming etc. They don't show these, NEVER. They are so nationalist to the point that they think the nation has no problem except from the politics. Besides you all haven't even been to Korea and don't know anything. FrostA shaming others and being judgmental isn’t a cultural aspect anyone should want to adopt. It’s well known how large certain types of looks are in Asia in general. Just because it is common doesn’t make it right. How many episodes of Hello counselor draw on strangers just being plain mean and dissing people for no reason? A lot. If this is what you claim as a part of the Korean culture and standard, that is sad. In China you need money to live your best life, but that’s universal for many countries. Adopting a culture and not being rude/ acting like you’re better than everyone is a universal standard to live by when in a foreign culture. Everything is not for you. Being ugly about someone’s appearance, driving them to the point they want to leave the country, get depressed, shrink themselves into oblivion is not normal. Being kind to people is normal, not looking for a way to demean someone is normal.

    Morocco is safe.. But depending on where you live.. I guess it's like that everywhere.. If u wanna be safer.. You should leave next to government buildings and/or near police stations.. And about marriage after 3 weeks.. I kniwppl here dating for years n years before thinking about marriage.. And.. Here there are 2 main ethnics: Arab and amazigh.. Next time u wanna talk about Morocco.. Be more educated.. We don't have only desert n camels.. Desert, sea, ocean, mountain, etc.. And about food.. It's indeed hard to be eating tagine everyday.. But there isn't only tagine and couscous.. Moroccan culinary is one of the most different and sophisticated.. If u had good friends they would've let u have lunch with them.. And finally.. You should have lived in the north.. It's not hot and it's more mild all over the year..

      I figured Morocco isn't as dangerous as he made it sound. He may just live in a not-so-safe area. But I mean I get it. He's like a lot of uneducated foreigners. It's just the way people are unfortunately. People get a small exposure to a place and base their entire opinion off that experience. I have a friend from Germany who moved to Baltimore in the US. Apparently the area she lives in is kind of dangerous and now her whole impression of the US is that you can't walk the streets safely. Well, I've lived in the US all my life. I don't feel scared to go outside and I've even been out very late at night around 3am before and nothing happened. It has a lot to do with where you are.

    • @FumIsChum
      @FumIsChum 5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      YES. When I say every idol has at least something done, I mean it. Even some of my favourite idols out there will have something done, and it's not just "they hit puberty or lost weight" thing. I'm not criticizing any one out there that gets plastic surgery, because plastic surgery is considered normal in Asia, so no one should judge. Some idols has blatant plastic surgery, and people can deny all they want, but in reality, this would be considered normal. Korea isn't all sunshine and rainbow, because when you look around, it's like everyone has to fit a certain standard even to the way you act, people lose that self-confidence because they feel like they have to look a certain way to be treated nicely. Even when you go clubbing in Korea, they don't let just anyone in, you have to be a model or an idol, be skinny, look pretty, and can't be a foreigner.

It just looks very unnatural to me and puts me off. Like, people can have amazing clear skin with not a single pimple and they still wouldn’t look that smooth. Skin has a beautiful texture of its own, and them taking that texture away with the filter makes it look unnatural. I didn’t even notice that they were using a filter till it was mentioned in that one video of Conan acting in Korea; I just could never put my hand on what was wrong.

It seems like it's more for entertainment purposes. So they needed to keep the tone somewhat lighthearted. Secondly, the realistic takeaway is that some people are awful people and you can't change that. There's just no way to *make* people be nice. So all he can do is learn to not care. As someone who spent my entire childhood being bullied for my appearance, I can testify to that fact. And I'm not Korean, nor have I ever lived in SK btw. I learned eventually you can spend your whole life worrying about other people's opinion of you, trying to please them, and being miserable when they don't approve. Stay next to your mother and build a shield around yourself just like you are building those muscles, make that shield strong so when people try to brake you they will get nothing but dust . Some people are born fighters others will have to learn how to become one .

    In my opinion, this show sounds a bit ineffective for guests. Hello Counselor seems like a place to vent but they don't really tackle to improve his issue. Most of the counselors don't seem serious as they should be and I notice they make more unnecessary humorous remarks than really addressing the victim's problem with a solid solution. It's a Korean thing to be friendly and light-hearted but it shouldn't fit in this situation. The only effective person was Ailee who really sympathized with him the most.

    Every country has its bad side and I wish people didn’t always think of Korea as a place that’s all rainbows and sunshine. I think kpop plays in a lot of people’s perception! Looks are a BIG deal even if people say it isn’t it is! At work women are expected to doll themselves up and men are expected to be well groomed! The back handed compliment thing happens all the time there “you’re so pretty but if you lost weight...” “you’re so tall to bad your face doesn’t match” and don’t even get me started in politics and the government!! 😤😤😤

    • @idontevenknow8646
      @idontevenknow8646 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      R A tbh I personally think there’s nothing wrong with caring about looks. It’s natural; humans are visual creatures. What’s wrong, is that some people feel entitled to blatantly tell others to lose weight, do something about that hair, etc. If someone really is doing something wrong about their appearance, then they should head it from someone CLOSE to them, and in a good way, not bullying. And at the end of the day, it’s their choice wether to follow that advice or not. What’s wrong is outwardly commenting on others’ appearance. But looks really are important, and there’s nothing wrong with caring about them, in my opinion.
