My dad caught me smoking when i was 17 too, he didnt say anything, no scolding no slapping. Later that night i found him secretly wipe his tears as he look at my mom photo (my mom and dad divorced when i was on elementary school). Then i promise to myself i wont cause any trouble again. That was an emotional episode for me so I just want the boy on this concern to be more considerate, being a single dad isnt easy, raising kids without a mom to share every problem is so stressing

In my opinion, mostly in asia or asian people especially when youre a male, people are not strick on you. They do not judge you heavily as female. Male critics tends to be push asibe because of their "good" quality.
      .
      .
      .
With this issue, it's very minimal, and we think we have a much tougher situations than this. We also see this at any generation...we see this as rebelion or the person has nothing else to do because the parents are too good to them.
Personally, i don't really see this as a big problem, just a bit since it is affecting his studies.
Btw, most asian men tend to get into either smoking or drinking at any age they want to start then it's very hard to take it from them.

I think because the crowd is mixed in ages. From a parent or mature adult perspective this is obviously wrong, but I can imagine many of the young adults his age and in their early 20s that are in the audience don't see it is as a big deal and think the dad is just overreacting

    • @MK-jw9xk

Where I'm from this is totally normal. We are allowed to drink in public at age 18 and usually on Saterdays we drink a bit of wine with our families (religion). I know alot of the girls in my age smoke, drinking isn't weird to do though it depense where since we aren't allowed in public or to drink in the streets in general (unlike Korea). The son has to understand why what he's doing is wrong since it effecting his studies.

I'm so glad Yeongja is on this show.... I was so frustrated with both the dad and the son. The dad sounds like hes trying his hardest not to lose his relationship with his son, and because of that hes basically enabling his son to do whatever he wants... and the son takes advantage of that. This was a very frustrating concern and they both need to be in rehab . I hope his daughter turns out okay from all this...

Diamond Ray his father never spent time with his son and when he slapped him, the son took it harder than if they had ever bonded, since he was so disconnected with his father before and the only actual interaction was a slap, he hates his father. he sees his father struggling but doesn’t care

    • @문수옿
      @문수옿 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

the point is that son only received material things from his dad. He is addicted because he wasn't raised properly and being addicted always comes from deep emotional problems. Don't think he isn't ashamed ,but it's not how it works , addiction is sickness and it's hard to stop. He is lonely you can see that clearly. And his father slapping him was a trauma to him. No matter what if you already feel bad about yourself , every action or word can hurt much more. I don't like the attitude of the hosts here, the boy needs psychological support and it's not his fault he is not emotionaly well, the circumstances did this to him.

If the father doesn’t buy him alcohol, he will steal and illegally drink/smoke with his friends. He was caught continuously SO MANY TIMES, that’s why the father told him to drink and smoke at home hence there’s no way to speak senses into him... What else could you do in that situation ? Watching your son sitting in jail? He probably know that it’s not right to do so but he has no choice. Idk it was a difficult decision.. imo personally. If he would stop when the father doesn’t buy him those stuff then that’s a different case.

I honestly believe the son is suffering from a depressive disorder . Drinking and smoking- addictive behaviours , are all associated with depressive disorder and he is displaying many signs of it. Saying he cant quit, but no admitting his is addicted is also typical addict behaviour. He needs to speak to some professional therapists. Mental health in young people( males especially) isn't paid enough attention to in korea

    • @aglajak669

@@mygradeflife2754 this could be true because if his parents divorced when he was 8 he might've blamed himself or just got too caught up in the mess. as a child of divorced parents i am also struggling with depressive disorder besides some other things like anxiety and ptsd so i do understand what he went through and it is possible for him to be struggling with some mental illness. i also do understand him when it comes to alcohol and smoking(weed) because i also did use that to make myself feel better but hence my mom is an alchoholic and my dad is a drug addict i saw what it did to them, their marriage and in the longer term me and my sister. i do think he is addicted but as long as he doesnt want to admit he has a problem theres absolutely no way he's getting better any time soon. i really wish he realises it and gets proper help because if he doesnt i am really worried about his future.

    • @luxpraveen5569
      @luxpraveen5569 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Thats true but i think they were referring to his attitude and resistance to start trying and change the habits in the first place. He didn’t say he would try and it would be difficult, he just said he wouldn’t be able to stop, which is why they were frustrated. If he had agreed to at least attempt to quit i think they would’ve seen his will to change, but he didn’t show that. He does need rehab and time though, and it seems he might be under some mental stress and issues. Hopefully he gets the help he needs :(

This boy is in so much pain, you can see the loneliness in his eyes so he uses cigarettes and alcohol to console that loneliness. The divorce has traumatized him so much, he knows it but it’s hard for him to admit it. I cried through this whole episode, I could feel the pain through the screen that’s how much hurt he has in his heart and you can tell he bottles it up and let’s it out when he drinks. Don’t bash him in the comments and say he’s a negligent son, he’s doing his best. They all are and I applaud him. He needs serious help, this program was just a step for them and I hope they all go see a therapist. I love the dad so much, so deal with this and still go to work. He loves his kids so much but it’s a bit hard for him to express it when he’s always away. I pray that they sought professional help after this show...

Was I the only one who thought the boy looked high? He needs to treat his father well and be nicer to his sister. He also needs to understand that single parenthood is difficult and rather than adding to the difficulty, he needs to be mature and be a role model to his sister. When I watch episodes with kids like this, I would wish they had African parents. The only reason you get traumatized by a slap is if you hear a ringing sound in your ear, five finger marks on your face, teary eye, signs of fainting and a headache. Other than that, your dad was just exercising his hands.
Happy the MCs didn't fall for his excuses. How do you even feel traumatized over a slap but so comfortable to ask your dad to buy you alcohol and cigarettes? The latter is when you should be more scared but that is not the case. The father needs to cut his sons credit card or put a 100 dollar limit on it. I don't see why an ungrateful child should be spending 2000-3000 dollars per month. If he needs extra expenses then he should work for it. Hopefully, he gets treatment for his trembling hands and his addiction.

when the boy saying 'I love you', the dad cries in an instant is like all the hard work he was doing is paid off. I think, no matter who his son would he be, that 'I love you' is worth the tough lifetime he was spending so far. he doesnt really care about another thing, one he cares is knowing that his kids love him, and it's strengthening him in many ways.

Its not good that he fights with his sister. Just like my mom always says, "you and your brother are all y'all got, you're gonna need each other one day" I mean it is true. Your family is all that's left when it comes to loved ones really. Their mom left so it's just them and their dad now. I can see that he wants them to be close before they split.

His parents divorced when he was 8, the mom low key left him and he wants me to believe that he is not smoking and drinking because of that. Bullshit. He is addicted already and people only get addicted if they are using drugs as excuse to escape something. Someone can drink one beer and not get addicted , someone can smoke a cigarette and not get addicted but if you are depressed and traumatized and feeling sad, you just want to forget the pain and feel better so ofc the son is relying on drugs to easy the pain. I hope the father takes him to a therapist.

Coming from someone who has a father in the same position as this man, I can say that I really related to this episode. First time I teared up. But I can’t get mad at this dude because I feel like I’m almost him in a way. My mom also left and through that, I also find myself taking out my anger on my sister (never my dad-I respect him so so much) and crying myself to sleep since I bottle up all my feelings. I wish there was a way for me to let it all out but I’d never go as far as to drink or smoke. I could tell he loves his sweet dad and is just trying to be cool about it all. This episode makes me really appreciate my dad even more.

As soon as the song father played at the end I burst into tears, I want to give the boy a hug, because he seems so out of it, it seems emotionally, not just from the drinking and smoking, I feel like he just needs someone to tell him what he's done wrong, but let him know it will be all right, he needs attention from his father, and he needs to be together with his family. The father needs to know that he has to set boundaries, once a child is shown they have no reprocussions for their actions, they think they can do it again, and they loose respect for the adult. I want to give them both hugs, and tell them how to fix this.

people truly are quick to judge. sure we got some stories from them but this is only a 30 minute video and insight into their lives. we don’t know them. we don’t know the whole picture so i don’t understand how people can make all these assumptions. everyone is quick to hating the son but you don’t know how he’s truly feeling. i think there’s something bigger here. he looks awfully tired and i think there could be depression here. it seems like he’s using alcohol as a way out but again, i’m not going to make assumptions. as for the dad, i can tell how hard it is for him and i think he’s letting his son away with too much and the fact that they don’t talk to each other about things is even worse. i hope they can open up about things and have a better life together because this is the only one they have together.

@11:22 I’m happy that even though this is a serious concern and there is obvious problem, the son could smile because this means that he is able to feel happiness.
The son is obviously feeling lonely and tired as well. I’m sure he would want to change but it’s difficult when you’re in a family situation where you feel tired.
Watching his parents divorce and having a father who was poor, he must’ve started to get a little depressed so he used smoking and drinking as a way to relieve this.

I think he’s going through some tough shit, and he’s drowning his demons with cigarettes and alcohol. It’s hard as fuck to overcome it, but I think anyone can with professional help, time, and lots of love 💕 Although I do get urges every now and then, I now know how to control myself. I agree with those who believe he is addicted. His selfish behavior comes mostly from addiction. Also, there is a high chance that he is post- depressed and traumatized from his childhood days. it doesn't need super horrible things like physical violence etc to cause depression in chilren. For some sensitive kids, also a small incident can mess up its life. The whole family would have needed psychological help from the moment the mother left. You can feel that the father isn't just sad because of his son's current situation but also has been lost for a long time. And even if he tried his best, in order to give the best to your children you have to make sure you are feeling good too. His moods will always affect his children. I don't think his son hates him. I think he is just as lost as his father
At the end of the day, it is the wife's fault. How can she leave her children? leaving her husband is one thing but being ok to abandon her own children is heartless. She could have at least tried to see them and help him raise them?! WTF I mean ok we all have to admit that such a small insight as the show gives into those people's lives isn't enough to judge. so I won't say anything about their mother. I feel sorry for all of them. I heard that drinking is a huge problem in Korea. But 18 seems really young. Drinking will always be a way to distract yourself from reality. And this boy- obviously being addicted and probably not just to alcohol is just really heartbreaking to watch. Talking about responsibility won't solve that issue. He needs to seek professional help. Not a counselor. Why don't they advise them to see a real therapist? Scolding the son and telling him he is a brat won't change anything. He probably knows that himself. Yes, his father could stop smoking but being a great role model won't work here anymore. This issue is outside of his reach.
I really wish them the best.

Everyone is talking about the dark circles under his eyes and here I am, born with them. Can't get rid of them.
Also, some people say he has a "defensive attitude"? I think he's just more introverted than other people. And if he was anxious during this show(which he most likely was, being on TV and all) , it would explain why his hands were trembling. Not defending his addiction, just think that people are over-analyzing this, and thus not helping the situation at all.
    20:25 I'm traumatized ≠ I'll stop my bad habits/addiction.
Also, that damn woman scolding the teen (19:51), yeah, the boy is kinda manipulative with that certain memory towards his father, but it makes sense. It wasn't "just a slap", it was in front of his friends, which is humiliating; humiliation doesn't make you love someone, it creates resentment, and that's what happened. And according to the teen, he was slapped so hard he couldn't HEAR out of his ear for sometime, which must he fucking terrifying, knowing your father can make you deaf anytime you do something wrong. And you may thing "Why doesn't he just stop if he's so afraid?", it's an addiction, you can't just stop suddenly, that's not how the brain or body works and you can't fight your brain. You can't beat addiction out of somebody, but you can damn well make them resent/hate you and even disrespect you, rebelling more.
I think both parties are in the wrong. Don't beat your kids. Find out just why your kid wants to do things like smoke, drink, etc. Maybe they are stressed, maybe they have a mental illness that is hard to deal with, because as I said, you can't fight your brain, even if you live on a mansion you might have or develop depression, anxiety, etc.
