That was grown ladies anthem back in the day. I got married at 18 and regretted and everytime I hear this I pray that all young girls and guys hear the message. Thanks S&M God bless ya'll.
Candy Staton was a favorite of my late mother. Another one was STREET LIFE by The Crusaders featuring Randy Crawford. I miss my mom, but songs like these take me back to the days when she would cook great soul food with her music playing in the background. Thanks for the memories Shawn & Mel😊🎶
This song was played often on the radio back in the day , everyone loved it. She was Once married to Clarence Carter who sang Patches, Strokin & Slip Away.
This is one of my favorite songs to sing in karaoke! She's not bitter, she's teaching to all ages...she's an overcomer. This song is about self-love and self-preservation and learning to love yourself!
This was a very important song for some of my friends in school, so many young girls think that getting hooked up and knocked up was the be all end all. This song encourages young girls to explore themselves and their possibilities, instead of chasing the same dream society dictates. In my experience, few can pull that off.
The announcer at the beginning was Tony Blackburn who's been a radio and TV presenter and disc jockey for nearly 60 years in the UK ...... still on the radio now !
She was just trying to give wisdom to the young ladies. She also said she'd rather be an old man's sweetheart than to be a young man's fool. Candi is now a minister. She has the sweetest spirit.
Wow, you know I heard this song a hundred times on the radio back in the day, but I never really listened to the words. Or maybe if I did I was too young to understand them. This is is very deep song. My Mom always used to say "choose wisely because its better to be by alone than with the wrong person." You are so right Mel, we do need to teach the girls, if we don't they will learn but from the wrong source. Our girls in the world today are precious. I do some volunteer work with young women and It hurts me to see that so many of them are without self confidence, never daring to dream anything for themselves. Believing they are only existing to look pretty for some man and get material possessions. Thinking like that ends in such tragedy. I think most young women in my generation believed they could do anything they wanted to if they put their minds to it. But instead of giving young ladies tools for life, today they are given cell phones and the information overload has left them anxious and overwhelmed. Its so important that young women are taught courage. I think this song really does this.
Great song. Great voice. Message is so true! I remember while serving in the United States Air Force this song would be playing on the radio in Sacramento. She has a beautiful voice. Great message. God bless Ms. Candi. My kids love this song. God bless you.
I was in HS when this started getting on the radio. What a great song... I was too young to understand the lyrics but the outstanding vocals, rhythm and instruments got me swooning!
@@robertasirgutz8800 I saw that film way back when it was first shown on UK TV haven't seen it since.i don't think it's been on since then?it's got a very good cast one of those movies you watch then later see breakout movies of stars and go I remember seeing them in etc I do remember the fabulous soundtrack.
She was in an abusive relationship she struggled to get out of and this song was wrote for her based on that experience and the emotion in her voice is real. She was speaking about it on a British show this week gone
Good job guys. I really love Candy. She did a wonderfully bittersweet song a few years ago called "I'll Sing a Love Song For You" while I'm her sixties. Truly amazing
Hell Yes! Y’all are making me miss my childhood!!! Back when all you needed was a dirt road and a back seat!! Young love in the Country! Oh how I miss those days!!! Thank y’all so much!!
I was 13 when this song came out. It was one of my favorite songs to dance to, but I didn't pay attention to the lyrics until the song popped up in my feed 2 weeks ago. What really got my attention is YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE. To me its not only love, it's also career choices, stepping out of your comfort zone, exploring the world when others try to put you in a box, etc. Every young person should listen to this song. I sent the song to my daughters. YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE❤
candi staton had an amazing voice! if you want to hear a mind blowing song by her listen to "PRISONER OF LOVE" by her.please react love the reactions guys !! ; )
Candi Staton is a GREAT artist, my fave by her is "I'd Rather Be An Old Mans Sweetheart(Than to Be An Old Mans Fool)". Its pronounced STAY-ton. Southern Soul Sister.
I think she went on to sing gospel music member her singing Christian television 20 years ago and she can bring it., yep "Sin don't live here anymore , Mama, Hallaluyah , and others she hits the high notes for real.
Yes Yes Yes.. you guys are saving for Black History, ms Staton is now a gospel singer, check out Victim. I actually remember when this song came out I was in elementary school and my school mate sang this song for our class..lol check out SOS Band Take Your Time
To Shawn and Mel put your reaction to Candi Statons Young Hearts run free more out there so that young girls growing up can read it like picking up a newspaper anywhere I believe y'all's hit on something
Love this song. You guys need to check out Eydie Gorme's music. Songs like If He Walked Into My Life and Don't Go To Strangers. Highly overlooked stuff.

I absolutely love Candi Staton. She's so underrated. Go back and listen to some of her early 70's material. She's an incredible soul singer! I only discovered her by accident browsing youtube about 7 years ago, and I was blown away. I recommend "Here I Am Again", "He Called Me Baby", and "But I Do".
🇮🇹 Avevo 10 anni non sapevo l inglese il significato amavo la musica in casa mia la radio era sempre accesa e una canzone bellissima ora che so il significato
I think both men and women can relate to this song although she is giving things from a females perspective but “don’t be a fool, when love don’t really don’t love you” is a general message to all those in relationships that are one sided. Great record.
She had a few bad ones. She said her mama really tried to talk some sense into her regarding her relationship with “I be stroking,” Clarence Carter. She left secular music and sang only for the Lord. My mother loves her!
great reaction! still hoping you will help your people discover JACKIE WILSON top entertainer and top voice. fast song...baby workout....slow song....danny boy. promise you won't forget him
She's not bitter, she's teaching! She's saying don't stay in a relationship when you're the only one in love. The only one trying to make it work!
Exactly 💯

Clarence Carters most famous song however was "Patches" though I much prefer "Slippin' Away".
I did not know that! 😲
@@Juan_E_Dewitt yes I believe in the early 70’s
Clarence treated her awful

Y’all are hitting some good ones today! You should also check out Thelma Houston singing ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’. I think you’ll like it.
Exactly, I used to play those two songs on my record player, all the time.
The announcer at the beginning was Tony Blackburn who's been a radio and TV presenter and disc jockey for nearly 60 years in the UK ...... still on the radio now !
He was on radio Caroline which was pirate radio on a ship before radio one started then he was one of the first djs on radio 1.
