45:25 Anonymous donations
Wow thanks a lot for this, so helpful for myself and also my viewers!
Don't worry about the donation Malaysians are happy to donate. Malaysians are very generous people. Nothing to be ashamed about. Just thank them sincerely and they will be happy
Thanks I appreciate the nice comment, Malaysians are very generous for sure!
Please don't get offended by that officer. That is unfortunately one of the less-educated and outdated mindsets that we have here in Malaysia. Islam never required non-fasters to respect the fasters by "not eating" in front of them. And as you can see, the vendors were certainly fine with that. You will meet these two types of people but you will certainly meet more of the accepting ones since we are still transitioning towards that.
Yea it seems like 90% aren’t bothered by people eating while they fast and some others think it’s not right. I’ll avoid it to be courteous. I think that guy was hangry
@@benfishermin No he was obeying the law. It is an Islamic rule that if something is not right and everyone remains indifferent then it suffices that at least one person objects or the whole community will suffer. This is divine law.
To put it simply the people had caused an imbalance and the one who objected re established the balance. He has more merit than all the people put together. So don't you worry about him. What you need to understand is it requires someone with anger to do this. Everyone else is compromised by niceness.
Nasi goreng literally means fried rice. They exist in practically every rice eating nations
Thanks that makes sense
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with TH-camrs getting donations. They provide entertainment much like watching a movie so if people can afford it shouldn’t be frowned upon. Just my thoughts
Thanks I appreciate it, I’m glad I put it out there because the donations I got ended up helping me a ton 🙏
just want to see i am happy to see foreigners are happy and enjoying Malaysia. Welcome to the humble Malaysia and enjoy your stay here.
Thanks a lot, I’m having a great experience here
Since you have some kind of food allergy, I strongly recommend you reach out to local people. Most of our food has salt-sugar combination and what specifically you are allergic to.
On a spiciness level, typically Malaysian food is less spicy than Indonesia and Thailand. Possibly your tolerance to spicy food is higher than usual caucasian. Our spicy is typically sweet-sour kind of spicy
even the grilled chickens (the first ayam percik when you entered the market) was slathered in sugar
Yea sadly I must stick to curries and veggies, or otherwise have to cook my own food
True my spice tolerance probably got high from Indonesia and Thailand
A lot of food traders and their respective menus in the Chow Kit area (where you are now) are of Indonesian origin and influence. The Minang community to be exact.
Great thanks for the info my friend 🙏
they arent the police or the army...they are RELA which is a guard who helps the control in the place...actually there is no prohibit on eating for non muslims...maybe the guard is a bit excessive...usually for local non muslims they avoid eating in front of muslims out of respect...but not forced...you can eat if you want there is no law that prohibits eating for non muslims...hope you enjoy your trip in kuala lumpur...
they just wanted to show control and authority
RELA, volunteer forces akin to auxiliary police.....
He was HANGRY!
You have pretty dimples. When you smile, it really stand out!!
Dimples in Malay is lesung pipit.
Thanks that’s very sweet 🙏🤗
Finally you're at a real Bazaar Ramadan, as a foreigner you can eat and drink but not in front of everybody just be a bit more discreet find little hidden alley ways they wont bother you. Paru are cow lungs you might want to try, you can also find tripe (perut) if you want. You wont find cow lungs in America because America banned all lungs (its some antiquated law) anyways if you get it deep fried it might be crispy and chewy. Malaysian sambals are generally sweet from less sweet to very sweet, you would want Indonesian sambals they usually don't use sugar. That ayam geprek earlier with Indonesian sambal should have been your pick. You can sort of tell because if you cook sambal with sugar the dark bright red colors would pop out , without sugar sambals are a lot more dull colored but more spicy. That said most of the Indonesian workers don't really speak English very well or at all that would be your challenge. I understand the sugar restrictions due to health but soy is it because of gluten? Malaysian soy sauce does contain gluten but its different from Thai soy sauce in terms of flavor. The green cake earlier is Kuih bakar from pandan and lots of sugar its is recommended but not if you have problems with sugar. I dare say that a dozen donut is equal to 3 dozen traditional dessert in terms of sweetness. The Syrian dessert " Kunafah" is also super sweet. probably sweeter than them donuts.
just eat in front of anybody. even my girl friends who cant fast just eat. nobody got offended.
@@max-lee you know know thats like taking advantage of their patience. During "fasting" they are supposed to not feel offended but i still think its bad manners. But hey you see bad manners everywhere most Muslims are exercising their faith in patience its a religious virtue of course they not gonna say anything. Its still doesn't diminish the rudeness just my 2 cents.
@@mr3111 It is not disrespectful to eat in front of a fasting person. That is part of the faith. Imagine if you have to fast in a non muslim country, can you tell everybody not to eat in front of you?
@@AnneLaniaz Non muslims wouldnt know nor understand so it doesn't even matter in those countries, Muslims tend to avoid eating areas. but in Malaysia they do know, i didn't say they couldn't eat/drink it takes like 5 steps behind a stall if they are that famished. Even in America people seldom eat and run its just bad manners.
@@mr3111dude. im a muslim myself. im not gonna force my friend to eat in hiding just for my sake. im not a kid who'll get triggered seeing anyone eating while im the one whos fasting. not them.
Hey dude - nice vlog- i should be there in a week. Nice to see your blogs
Thanks! Hope you’re enjoying your time here
@@benfishermin hey broo
Its pretty sick here. Im staying at Jalan Ampang. If your in this neck of the woods, gimme a shout
As a Muslim, I think it's fine for you to eat as you're not Muslim. But I guess, when in Rome 🤷🏻♀️
Haha thanks, it seems most people don’t care and a few people think it’s wrong. I’ll try not to just to be courteous at least
Nasi ganja does not contain weed, some say it is named that because of their addictive power (when u eat once u want to eat again n again) but others say because. One of the ingredients is poppy seeds (kas kad)
Haha okay thanks, I thought ganja probably meant something else completely
"Homeless Leaning" hahaha. A new phrasal verb, Ben.
😂😂😂
During Ramadhan food street vendors start business from 4 pm to 7.30 pm.
Ahhh ok thanks!
Tauhu bergedil is basically tofu potato croquette either with chicken or beef filling.
Ah okay thanks. Too bad I can’t eat soy!
Actually if you're not Muslim you can eat and drink during Ramadan. Not a problem. Many cafes and restaurants are also open.
Thanks, seems this is how most other Muslims think too, with just a few that say you shouldn’t do it
At least in front of other people in public
WELL COME TO MALAYSIA....
Now El Nino season till Aprill in Malaysia...
Spicy Malay foods...masak lemak cili api n nasi goreng cili padi...
Thank you I need to try 🙌
The drinks usually they don't add sugar before serving. You can ask for no sugar.
Gotta try this and have some tea drink or something
The one u said looks like taco we called it "APAM BALIK",its quite famous for foreigners to try to.Got 2types of Apam balik, crunchy one or the fluffy one which is quite in bigger size. But maybe a lit hard for u because got sugar on it.😂
Ahh thanks, yea sadly I must avoid it!
Some people have the ability to just ramble around and freestyle and gather an auduence. Cheap Charlie used to do it 12 hours straight even tho he was off his arse.....maybe they were watching to see if he was about to crack up.
Yea I think im one of those people, although a lot goes into it to actually get views and grow doing this style
food in Malaysia if you want spicy, you have to eat at home or in a restaurant, you can ask for spicy or less spicy. In general, food vendors at stalls do not cook very spicy food because they know that not everyone can tolerate spicy food. The truth is that good food must be balanced, not too spicy and sweet. The important thing is that we want to feel the deliciousness of the food and we don't want the spiciness. For me, I like spicy and a little sweet, salty and a little sour. that's balanced food for me.
Yes it makes sense, I should say very spicy sometimes and see how it feels. I think my spice tolerance is just high from Thai chilis
TEPUNG PELITA is a MUST DESSERTS during RAMADAN in Malaysia
3:54 AIR KATHIRA is also the rarest drinks you can get in Malaysia, famous & quite expensive 😅
Ahhh, sad that you cant try it, but tbh, MALAY Muslim food is either spicy or sweet😂😂 sweet especially from the East Coast of Malaysia😅
Yea I wish I could try the sweet stuff 😩 but I’m happy I can at least eat curries and veggies every day, still delicious
Nice video..
Thanks!
Thanks!
a hat would go a long way in the sun like that
Sometimes a hat makes me hotter and sweat more I’m really not sure 😩
You can eat … they really don’t mind they understand.
Thanks, some people think it’s bad etiquette but it seems mostly all Muslims understand.
@@benfishermin for sure, it's not even an issue here👍🏻 only that person, is hangry as u said😂.. btw usually we come out later in the evening because it's hot, very.😅
Paru sambal is nice. If u cannot ear spicy, ask first the spicy level. Paru is cow lung. Actually, if cow stomach is ‘perut’
Creammy gravy/sauce is coconut milk. Next time ask if use ‘santan’
I wanna try this, I do love spicy
Nice 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
🙏🙏
Paru is lung
Perut can be tripe (Perut babat) or small intestines
I’d like to try it!
masak lemak cili api...that is spicy...
Thanks 😁😁
Hello Ben, I m watching your videos since the more recent Jomtien condo time. Now i m up to date and go back to the Bali ones (very helpful because i go there for the first time soon). With some stuff in your videos i can identify myself pretty much, i like what you said about ur parents in the end. I m thinking about to move to Thailand for 6-8 months a year (have to be 4 months in my country because of my business) and could luckily afford to live there now on around €1.5K a month. But thats without any "retirement money plan". Do you put money into ETFs or have something like a house for later? I can´t imagine that the minimum government retirement money in the USA is much higher than in Germany. Maybe more of the budget and money stuff would be interesting for other people too.....just saying what comes into my mind when i watch your videos. Cool Videos, looking forward for more Thailand stuff!!!
BTW as long as money is tight you could try to cut it down on the herb. I got solid thai outdoor herb from the locals last year for not even 20thb a g. 4 different strains which i only vaped and it was definitly ok......sure high end indoor is better but in comparison to the price the oldschool Thai herb is fine in my opinion as a guy who usually has nice organic homegrow.
I’m glad you were able to relate with my videos, glad you enjoy them. Honestly I have no retirement at all sadly, need to build something strong and earn/save. Hopefully TH-cam will turn into something big 😁 you’re right the weed is a high expense for the budget I’m on, I started to stick with 100-150thb per g stuff which is pretty cheap! Now in Malaysia of course not smoking which is very helpful. And now when I am back in Thailand my tolerance is so low I barely need much to get buzzing. Gonna have a nice long break again too which will help further. Good luck with your moving plans 🙌
Hope you're enjoying your days here at Malaysia. There still lots more thing that you can explore here in KL😊
Suggestion from me was to walk around near evening time 6 to 8, cause that was the time the sun was down and people started to doing their thing there, its get more lively
Oh man and I hope that whatever going on with your health issue could be getting well in future, watching you rejecting all the nice food due to your health concern make me kinda feel : awww😂😂
I love walking around more in the evening for sure. Really the only reason I’ll walk in the daytime is to film in the light. Hardest part of the whole job, dealing with the heat 😅 thank you I hope someday I can return to eating sweets and all the good stuff 😁😁
Here to support my, eBestie. 😏
Love it, thanks a lot my friend
nasi goreng is fried rice. 'nasi' is rice, 'goreng' is fried. the name's similar because the language's almost similar. the kind of nasi goreng are what differentiate where it came from. nasi goreng from korea taste differentlly. same with fried rice from uk. no country owns fried rice. it's hard to get a true origin of one's food especially from this region. but it's definitely not shwarma. your best bet would be kueh. unfortunately is mostly sweet because it's desserts. or dish like laksa, nasi kerabu, nasi dagang, nasi lemak
forcing anyone who's not fasting to not eat around you is just dumb. me as a muslim think so.
Thanks a lot, I always forget Nasi simply means rice
If you have food allergies like sweets n soy be careful when buying street foods, especially when you don't speak local language..Us Malays usually marinated our food including beef n chickens with sugar/honey/soy sauce
Yea it’s very difficult! I find myself mostly eating spicy chicken/lamb/fish curry often because it’s the least sweet thing around
Home Cook meals are spicy. But food in stalls not so spicy. Seller needs to cater various customers
Yea that makes sense!
We’re experiencing el nino now…
Extreme heat
A lot of us locals here too feel extremely uncomfortable…
Let alone yourself
There was one death reported due to extreme heat
Don’t go out in the sun too much
Yea it can be intense, I try to limit my exposure now at least taking breaks into the shade or AC. Maximum 20-25 min in the sun without break
Indonesian and malaysia is the same language mate. Except indonesia has some dutch words mixed in
Foods high in sugar, all drinks (Air balang), and pastries should be avoided. meal without sugar, fried mee goreng, tiew, laksa, tom yam, and grilled meal, however the sauce contains sugar and chile.
Yea only water for me, and I can’t eat gluten or soy too, so most things I can’t have 😩 I stick with curries, cabbage and green veggies, boiled egg
You can eat anywhere no problem, it just maybe what he mean was apply only in that bazaar only you should avoid stay n eat.
Okay I see, maybe he was hangry as well
Yellow curry is coconut milk & tumeric
Ah yea it’s delicious. I feel like the one spot I go to uses a mustard seed paste which I really like too
try ayam penyet or geprek, it surely very spicy
Thanks I’ll try!
You must bring face towel with you whenever you go out in the 🌞 because you sweat profusely. Wipe your sweat 😅.
True I should be a towel guy
You should try RAMLY BURGER
don't recommend something that full of sauces and sweet as hell to him.
I do want to make a video trying this. @hammerfall6666 is right though I’ll need to make sure no sugar added and no sauces really. Mayonnaise would be ok
Ramadan bazaar only comes once a year...in d month of ramadan when we fast for d whole month...
Yea it was a cool experience to check out the Ramadan bazaar, I’ll go next year too
Please be careful in that Sun Ben especially on top of head
Thanks I try to limit my exposure a bit now with breaks into the shade or AC
Have NasiLemak had some spicy source 😂
Cannot eat rice 😩 but sambal is OK if no sugar, I think Indonesian version is better for me without sugar
Try nasi ayam geprek if you dare for spicy😀
Nice I’ll try! Can I get this not fried or only fried?
How do you like the Ramadan bazaar in KL.
It was incredible, nice experience and food!
@@benfishermin Wonderful. 😁
If you are still here next week and like night markets, there's the longest night market in KL - at Taman Connaught, on wednesday nights!
Somehow I missed it every week, I kept remembering on Thursday or Friday 😩
Just curious , what kind of allergies do you have ?
I have some kind of overgrowth of bacteria or fungus in my gut, and it makes me intolerant to soy, gluten, sugar, dairy and any starches
You should go shopping for a hat
I have some but sometimes the hat makes me sweat more and I’m more hot. Maybe I need a more light/think hat
paru is cow lung
Thanks I gotta try it
most dishes in southeast asia hv sugar in it… we hv sweet tooth… our sambal is not as spicy as indonesian one… not sure abt thai sambal… i always feel indonesian sambal has more kick… malaysian sambal still gd for me though… i guess ur spice tolerance quite high… as some western tourist finds it too spicy.. so it must be individual standard.. bro.. use ur iphone camera to translate….
nasi goreng is fried rice in english.. we malaysian do fry our rice though.. thus where our fried rice or nasi goreng (in malay language) came frm.. indonesia patented the name nasi goreng .. but still our version of nasi goreng is diff than indonesian one… malay cuisines do get influenced frm thai.. chinese n indian… because there are malaysians of chinese.. indian n thai origin…
daging means meat.. daging lembu is beef.. daging kambing is mutton… most places sell goat meat instead of sheep…
Interesting, I did see some other comments about Indonesian using no sugar, or very little, so balance must lean more toward spicy, I think for me would be better! Since I can’t have soy, sugar, gluten - I’m mostly eating curries and either cabbage or green veggies. It’s pretty limited but at least I can eat out every day and still feel good. And it makes it easy to stay in shape since I can’t have fried foods or even rice
@@benfishermin yup.. indonesian sambal is nicer.. stallls arnd kampung bahru do hv indonesian as their cook… u can try their dishes… hv u tried tosai (dosay)… it’s a south indian fermented indian pancake… served with dhal n coconut chutney… about tosai..
Rich in carbohydrates, protein, and fiber, Thosai is a healthy choice that's also low in fat. The calorie content of thosai depends on the ingredients used and the cooking method. A typical thosai made with white flour and water has about 150 calories per serving.
@@eerievon2208that sounds delicious! But with my gut problem I can’t have flour/gluten and also can’t have legumes (lentil, chickpea). So much of the food I must avoid sadly that’s really why I eat so much curry and veggies
@@benfishermin sorry to hear that.. bro.. hope u’ll get better soon … keep safe n stay healthy…
Most of the time, even not that spicy is very spicy for white ppl. He may have the thought. 🤷🏻
True they also do this in Thailand if you’re white, it’s like a different heat scale than for locals
you can eat outside of that ramadan bazaar bro but not inside. like when you go to a side street to eat the food away from people, that's ok
Yea this makes sense thanks
🇲🇾🤝😃✌️❤️👍🤝
😁😁🙏😅
I personally do not recommend to go back to kampung baru bazaar , its because there are lots of typical malays which dosen't know english language at all. Its be best to stroll along in the educated freethinkers places
Overall it seemed like a great bazaar to me with a lot of great food 🤔
Paru is cow lungs
Yea I've heard good things about it, I gotta try it.
No one eats at a ramadan bazaar....u can eat discreetly in an alley nearby...
Good to know this, although a lot of people commenting saying to eat anywhere and Muslims do not care, so seems there’s conflicting thoughts on this
Yes of course...no strict rules on that matter...but its only polite to not eat there...thats why no stalls provide any seating areas anywhere...sorry...i didnt mean to offend u...enjoy!!!!
If you want spicy but not sweet, must try Negeri Sembilan foods, the salai lemak and many other dishes. In Malaysia, Negeri Sembilan has the most spiciest cuisines and the spiciness is on-par with Thai spiciness and Negeri Sembilan cuisines uses a lot of bird eyes chilliies like the Thais.
Dang , you sweating loads, why you sitting on the sun 😢
Gerai mean stall...tok ti name of stall owner business
Nice thank you
Paru=beef lungs
What is roti john???
Long sandwich filled with egg (omelette) with beef/chicken some veg and lots of sauce. You can tell them to put less sauce if you buy the freshly made ones.
A Subway kinda.
I wondered the same thing so I’m glad you asked this and people commented 😁😁🙏🙏
Kesian kena tegur anggota RELA yang bertindak di luar kuasa mereka.
Honestly same thing happens in USA, security guards power tripping or acting above their authority
@@benfishermin Although it certainly wasn't your fault, I think what triggered them was maybe the way you were chomping on your food with gusto. Ha ha. But seriously, even the food sellers did not mind you eating in front of them because they asked, and you told them you were not fasting. The RELA personnel (aka People's Volunteer Corps) have a record of 'power tripping' (new phrase for me, thanks) and as they were themselves probably fasting at the time, must've exacerbated their crankiness. Ironically, the people who have to prepare food are far more tolerant than others. Fyi, at the time you were there, 5pm or so, was about 2.5 hours away from break fast. Can you tell me where you were staying at the time - you said it was near to the Kampung Bahru food market. I visit KL once a year, for ophthalmologic appointments, and my fave hotel is Akar, which is within walking distance from Kampung Bahru. Did you visit the Saloma Bridge, which is also nearby?
Tempoyak = fermented durian.
Ah wow interesting thanks
you sweating likes hell man...lol
Yea it looked like i went swimming 😅
Paru=Lung
I want to try it
Is it hot?
You mean the weather? It rained in April. Hot in march (normal)
You should try eat nasi kerabu, no sweet, and no soy. Its rice with raw veggie, coconut flakes, beef grill. All the currys are cooked with either coconut milk in malay stalls or yogurt in indian stalls. Some dont put any coconut or yogurt
Haha hottest place I’ve ever been 😃
What am I missing, I thought they were not to eat while it's Ramadan Fasting )
Only for the Muslims
They selling the food for people to buy and bring it back home for break fast, hence why there's no tables and chairs for dine in
In Malaysia, the fasting start from Subuh (around 6am plus minus) until Maghrib (around 7.15pm plus minus) every day in Ramadhan month. Subuh is few minutes before sunrise and Maghrib is few minutes after sunset, it might vary depends on your location and altitude. Technically, we in Malaysia fasting around 13hours per day. For country that having Ramadhan during summer, their fasting duration would be longer. For those having Ramadhan during winter, they would fasting only for a little of time.
We did not fasting whole day for the whole month 😊
Ya just for non Muslims or takeaway!
ABOUT YOUR SUGAR ALLERGIES ARE YOU ALLLERGY TO ALL TYPE OF SUGAR? OR CAN U EAT PALM SUGAR (GULA MELAKA)?
All types of sugar sadly
I love you
Ok
@@benfishermin will you love me
You like this Bazaar but this isn't even the best, the best Bazaar Ramadhan is in Putrajaya, that has like 400 stalls, a lot of people can't even going through even stalls coz it is too big and too many things.
Who doesn't just love being around a bunch of Muslims looking at you, like what are you doing here? 😂😂😂
Haha 😂
Its agonisingly difficult to watch your video. I wish im there to explain everything to you. Gosh. Haha.
😂😂😂
Paru=Lungs, Stomach is Perut
I gotta try both of these
i'm sorry for you bro for being sweet intolerant, you miss a lot of good food.
It’s sad especially in Asia!
That Chicken ice cream you ate, looks like it's glazed with Honey.
1000% it was 😡
You ve been sweating a lot in this weather. Needs all of that electrolyte in the drinks to keep the water inside your body. You wouldnt want to be hospitalised because of dehydration.
I’d say I get enough electrolytes, especially sodium from the food in general, and some trace amounts from 5L mineral water each day. I also supplement with magnesium.
i think usually Malaysian food is moderate spicy.. but many foreigner find it too spicy.. dif from u😂😂😂🤣
Yea makes sense that they’d keep the spice level not too crazy since not everyone enjoys super spicy stuff
Ya..Thai foods are really2 spicy...and very sweet..and sour. I don't like the combination.
Sometimes I agree the heat can be insane. Usually for foreigners they make it way less spicy unless you really ask for it
