  • Vaughn Monroe singing "Racing with the Moon"
Photographs taken by me! ;-) (you can check out more of my photography at miniwookie.deviantart.com)
1st photograph is a statue (technically fountain) of the goddess Diana on the street Reforma in Mexico City, the 2nd photo is the Diana of Versailles (in the Louvre), and the 3rd is... well... THE MOON ^_^

Had the pleasure of interviewing Vaughn in Boston, as a radio announce. Backstage at a South Boston Nightclub...he couldn't have been nicer.. His band was terrific and so was he.

I listen to this because Vaughn was one of my father's favorite singers and this was his theme song. I was born in 1943.

I am fascinated by the 1930 and 1940 and 1950 era as people dressed so nice. Even people without a lot of money. The music had lyrics you could understand and it had a melody and you had people like Vaughn Monroe with good voices to sing it. A very classy time. Wish I could have lived back then and danced with my girl in my arms. Not like the dancing of today.

Maybe he's more a dancers singer. I can still Mom and Dad dancing to this; we even took it on vacation. (Snort; imagine carrying, like 30 78s along.) Fond memories.

In the 1940s, I was 16 - (make me pretty old now!!) and you can believe me, it was pretty much like what you're wistful about right now. At a school dance I danced with a darling girl to this very tune . . . the songs was real magic to us way back then. I would sure like to have a revisit - maybe just long enough to have that dance again . . . .

Oh, if only we had this music and song nowadays, we'd still have crime but oh, our blood pressures would be so much lower. Ahhhh.......!

There was a great subtlety in tunes sung by the crooners of this era not the gut wrenching emotionalism that is the de rigueur of popular culture today.

Good point, and all that "emotionalism" is phony as a six dollar bill, too.

I loved the 40's music. I was a teenager then. (Ann Tull)
