      We have the recordings of then, and if we want these things now, then we must create them. Unfortunately much of the world has gone to trash culturally, musically. We can't wait for them to create this beauty because they won't.

    I did a broadcast with Vaughn Munroe in 1955. I was the announcer on a half hour show from Kenwick On the Lake, an outdoor dance pavilion near Sarnia Ontario Canada. Every time I hear one of his recordings I think back to that wonderful evening when I sat beside the Moonmaids between numbers. Charles Doering Mississauga Ontario

He dies far too young but is still remembered and will, hopefully be discovered by future generations. My favourite singer. Thank you so much for this.

      Monroe was reportedly very tough to work with. When you get that reputation, you cut yourself out of many opportunities. Even Sinatra had to make compromises.

    • @ronreagan1404
      @ronreagan1404 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fazbell To the contrary. Musicians who worked for him, many for over a decade, had only good things to say about him. Even critic George T. Simon, who wasn't a big fan of the band or Monroe's singing, said that Monroe was one of the most pleasant guys in the business -- a very normal person in an abnormal world. Long time drummer Eddie Julian, whom I knew very well, said Monroe was very easy-going and a great boss.

      I found out about Vaughn Monroe through my late mom. He was one of my mom’s favorite singers when she was in high school (mid-1940s), when she married my dad the year she graduated (1948) and into the 1950s. She bought an 8-track of his old songs and started playing it - I was within earshot and I really liked what I was hearing. That was when I was in high school (mid-1970s) and I’ve been a fan of Vaughn’s music ever since.

    After all the tenor male singers during the 30's and 40's (besides the full -range Bing and Sinatra), Vaughn's baritone was unique. I remember hearing his 45's when I was a kid. Great voice. Modest to a fault. And totally underrated.

    Enjoyed listening to Monroe since I was around 13 when I bought a box of 78's with "There I Said It Again", and "Tangerine". Still sing these songs in the shower at 55 y/o. Sinatra and Monroe are about the only male singers that I enjoy listening to, except for the later generation of James Taylor, Tom Jones, and James Brown.

  • @Melonhead622

    Similar story: I'm 60 and collected 78s to play on the 78-only player my folks gave me in 1960 (I was 8 and the Sixties hadn't started yet). I liked "What Do I Have To Do", "There I've Said It Again", "It's My Lazy Day" and "Just The Other Day" WAY more than his better-remembered "Riders In The Sky" - us baritones should get more recognition!
