Cute intro. This video taught me a lot. I learned a new silly underway game and how to pee while underway. You are close to the end of this journey. Great sail. And for someone who has never sailed, Hanna has done an incredible job. Salute to you, Hanna. Have fun, stay safe, see you next week.
Haha, glad we could teach you some of the finer points of life at sea😂 Hannah has absolutely crushed it out here!! Thanks for sticking with us on this journey. 'Sea' you next week!
When I watch these long passages, it makes me think about how they did it back in the day with way less technology. They had to love sailing. Great video.
Love the way the cutter rig is working for you. I'm digging the yacht more and more. The center cockpit seems perfect for these long rides too. 5 ⭐️ episode!
Thank you! We've never sailed anything but One Life but we are pretty keen on her. We certainly love the cutter rig. The staysail set up has worked very well for us and it's our go to sail in rough weather.
You guys really nailed what it's like to be on passage, brought back some visceral feelings in me. Not sure if it's ptsd or pleasant memories. I think your enclosure was the star of the show, can't imagine being there without it.
Thank you! It’s such a wild ride being at sea! We’re glad our journey resonated with you. And yes, the enclosure has made a world of difference in our comfort on passage! We will never sail without one now!
This was a GREAT episode guys! Different aspects and views to understand what you guys deal with and of course the learning how to pee was hilarious but very insightful 😂 thanks again for sharing
We’re glad you enjoyed the episode! 😂 Learning to pee while sailing is definitely a skill worth sharing-who knew it could be so insightful? Thanks for sailing along with us!
I always wondered how you guys and gals did that. Another spectacularly fun video. Signing off with a smile on my face and a heart that feels a little bit better.... TY. You guys rock!
Love watching how One Life and her crew manage all conditions like rockstars! Fun to watch 'life on the lean' and all the little things most would never think about. thanks again for another great video!
I guess Hannah is leaving once you reach New Zealand and I am gonna be so sad to see her go. I really loved seeing her on these last videos. Thanx 4 the toilet demo, i was curious about it.
Yes, unfortunately New Zealand is her homeland and she has her own adventures to go do! We hope she will join us again some day! Happy to hear you enjoyed the pee at sea portion!
Well… TH-cam working in your favor today 😂😂 I watched this when it came out and now YT has placed it in front of me like I haven’t watched it…. So here we go again 🎶 watching, liking, and commenting. Be well
Man you guys really got beaten up by the weather, no escaping the constant rolling and getting knocked around.....Hannah is a legend for being able to cope with all that considering this is her first month at sea!! I can only imagine how good it felt when you got to Opua after all that!! Looking forward to the next episode!!
Hannah is such a legend! Yes, the constant rock n roll wears on you after awhile! Seeing land after this was a sweet, sweet moment! Looking forward to sharing that episode!
You three were having way too much fun. Ha ha That was a really fun video on what it’s like off shore. Gary was making me nervous when he was out on the deck in what looked like pretty big swells. ❤❤❤
Thanks, Bob! Gary is a wild man! He makes sure everything and everyone is taken care of out here. Very lucky to have him at One Life's captain! Hope you are doing great!
@@SailingOneLife It’s gets your heart pumping on a pitching deck. I’ve done it a few times and just don’t think about it too much but watching Gary do it in the video made me think about how to do it as safely as possible. You captured the shot perfectly. Hope you’re feeling well. Take care
Guys, I watch all of your content and you both are amazing, attitude, perseverance and sailing ability. I sail and watching Hannah, I am so impressed that someone with so little experience in sailing, is a real trouper 👍so impressed, Hannah you rock!! 👍👍❤️❤️🇮🇪🇮🇪
First time watching you guys, loving it, so far watched your trip from Tonga to NZ, I can't believe how Hannah did, Amazing, she's welcome on my boat any day. You mentioned clean up day, the world needs to help Asian countries clean up there back yard, from what I've seen most of the Pacific Ocean rubbish is coming from that region. Will follow more of your adventures 🥰🥰
You guys make everyone smile....even with bathroom fun. I sailed a long time on a monohull getting bruises in strange places in the galley and bracing to pee..... memories that stay with you even when you gravitate to a cat. ;)
One thing about being a sailor, expect to have bruises, it has to be especially frustrating getting bruised while just trying to pee... lol I noticed Hannah had her hair down for a little bit, that must have been the 15 minutes of calmer seas that you had, it's a damn good thing you get to visit such beautiful places after some of the rough rides you have!
Those random bruises just become part of the sailing life-especially when you're trying to do the simplest things like, you know, pee! 🤦♀️ And yes, Hannah was enjoying that brief moment of calm... it didn’t last long! The beauty of the places we visit really does make up for the wild rides though! Thanks for watching and always making us smile with your comments!
What an adventure! Great, i follow u from the beginning and i like it. Greatings from the Netherlands and all the best, i love u guys, cheers and i drink a Scottisch Whisky on u!!
Thank you for coming along with us from the start! Sending lots of love back to the Netherlands! We appreciate you raising your glass - cheers :) here’s to many more adventures ahead!
You three are killing it ! Hats off to you to deal with the monotony, the chaos, the changes, and the ability to laugh and enjoy the journey you've pointed towards. I know you took a big break in New Zealand, a well deserved one but, the big seas and big winds kind of equates to that last big harrah push towards the destination. Great video, thanks for sharing your adventure with us !
Thank you! We worked really well as a trio! It felt so good to get to NZ and take a break for awhile! Such a beautiful place to travel on land for a bit!
I had a thought (not sure how it would work but....) Many years ago ( 1965 while in the Marine Corps we went from South Caroline to Subic Bay in a world war 2 LST (landing ship tank, the ones my have have seen that run right up to the shore and lower the front end (ramp) and drive tanks off). In order to do this the ship MUST have a flat bottom to get close enough to shore. As a sailor you are certainly aware of the issues with a flat bottom boat (not very stable and bounce around a LOT.) Well on that trip we had the pleasure (?) of the outer rim of a hurricane in route. The fully loaded LST with Navy staff and half a dozen full size tanks in the tank bay as well as a full compliment of Marines it got REAL bouncy. To see how much roll there was we would sit on the open deck on port side (or starboard) and watch and count how long it took the other side to go from lowest point through the horizon to the highest point above the horizon. So,, since it is hard show how much you roll on camera . Here is a suggestion. Lash a pole across hear the bow on top of the safety guards sideways. film from the cockpit at about the same level as the pole forward and watch the ends of the pole rise and drop across the horizon. (of course the longer each delay below horizontal to above the horizon the the bigger the roll is). Might work and show on film the amount of roll?
Wow, Jerry! That’s quite the story-sounds like a wild ride on that LST, especially with the outer edge of a hurricane!😯 We can only imagine how much bouncing around you experienced. Love your idea for capturing the roll! It’s always tricky capturing just how much movement we’re dealing with on camera, but that might be a great way to really give viewers a sense of it. Hope you are having a good weekend~ Brooke
It's not just the monotony, but the weather anxiety and the constant movement of the boat healing and rolling, that makes you appreciate land even more. I am very impressed with Hannah, she's a trooper.
You’re so right, Bob! It’s that nonstop motion and weather uncertainty that really makes you appreciate solid ground when you get it. Hannah has definitely been a rockstar through it all!
We would love to have her continue on with us but she has her own adventures to go do! She's always welcome onboard so maybe she'll be keen to join us somewhere else one day.
A spirited sail 👍. I’m still laughing at Captain Garrison and his well prepared crew demonstrating (for educational and safety purposes) their adapted techniques for a successful head call 👍👍👍🤗🫣👏🏻.
Good stuff guys. I never would've thought, but the how to part was actually informative. The mundane necessities I didn't consider. Thanks for making it even more real. Fair winds!
You are going well guys, especially Hannah on her first big ocean sail ... the miles are telling you that NZ is not that far away now, along with the need for a blanket now and then plus plenty of cloud, squalls, good reliable winds and variable seas lol, and yes, I know you have been and gone ... One imagines that there will be a few variations relating to piddling on the move. I have sailed a little in roughish conditions and sometimes its not so easy for the guys as well, you have to hold on with one hand, keep the toilet seat up with a spare knee and the other hand has to hold onto something else to keep the piddle going in the direction that it is supposed to be going lol
Hannah has definitely risen to the challenge-she’s been a trooper! And you nailed it with the piddling situation! 😂 It’s a whole circus act out there sometimes! Holding on while trying to aim is a true test of sailing skills!
Can do relate to this freight train noise. Our boat makes very similar noises. It’s not great but just hang in. Isn’t it strange how then suddenly the wind and waves disappear and the silence is back.. as if nothing happened
Hey Brooke, Gary and Hannah! I really enjoyed the video! Have you thought of putting a strip of velcro on the top lip of the toilet seat so you can velcro it to the wall when needed to keep it out of the way? All the best!!!
Pee @ Sea! 😂🤣😅 Why don't guys just sit?!? Very entertaining! Hilarious! Also enjoyed the balancing challenge! Good way to make light of the rough seas! ✝️⚓️❤️
Thanks for sharing. Great to see what life at sea really entails. Loved the reaction to squall coming in .e.g. everyone up and altering course to avoid the worst. Would be great to see on radar to if possible.
Great video! Gary, please don’t hold that screw driver, sharp end up, and fling your hand around while explaining something. One bad wave and there goes your eye! (Yes, I probably sound like your grandmother, but she wasn’t wrong!)
@@SailingOneLife so I assume you guys have been in NZ for a bit. Did you get to experience our crazy weather last week? Wind and hail! Nothing like a little horizontal precipitation to let you know you are here!
Yay! I'm glad it wasn't too maddening. I know the camera doesn't show the full story on the swells or how relentless it is but I'm sure there were a few times Hannah at least was wanting a break. I feel like I could do that if i could get 'get a break' now and then but no such thing. She did great though! Did you guys talk to any boats along the way? Weren't some larger, faster boats a day behind you on the same passage?
We were all wanting a break from the rocking and rolling at some point on this passage! We never had another boat pass us within view and never received any calls on the vhf but when we arrived in Opua a couple of the bigger catamarans were already there!
17:27 rock star man pilots us through the night watch. ;-) Great visualization of a rougher passage here. Not real appealing this time, but real. I am sure this contributed to the rig work that is in future episodes. The games and the How to Pee are a fun highlight here.
Yupp! He was checking out my new(‘72) Bristol 34 and swung by to say hi. He asked if I knew the channel & I said,”of course… I know your displacement is!” Love how real you guys are on the videos.
How much do y'all estimate your autopilot is drawing in a full 24 hours at sea in swellier than moderate conditions like you've experienced here? Thanks for sharing!
Great question but unfortunately I don't have an exact answer for you on that. The power draw of our hydraulic drive is significantly greater than the old linear electric-mechanical drive that we had. I'd ballpark it at something like 100AH per day (12V system) for the autopilot but it is extremely dependent on wind/wave size and directions.
You guys are having WAY too much fun! LOL. I've had alittle experience myself with trying to pee on a rocking and rollin sailboat! You really only know what it's like if you've experienced it! Tx for the fun video, guys. And PS - Gary: if I was on board you WOULD be peeing sitting down, bud!
Good morning one life a sobering reminder of mother earths unpredictable nature we pay a pretty penny to go on a roller coster ride like that😅 the toilet thingi was funny alittle seguestion for BIG G maybe acouple of magnets for the toilet lid😂 thanks for the ride as usual being watching delso here in aus build there new ali catamaran bryan welding kaz designing the interior that things a beast be well be safe fear till next vid fear seas
Mother Nature definitely keeps us on our toes! 😂 Love your idea for some magnets on the toilet lid-might just save us from a few surprises! It’s so exciting to watch Delos building their new catamaran. We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what they create!
I’m not much of a sailor but recently my young son and I have been doing a deep dive on the anatomy of a 16 century ship of the line, The Flagship Victory the last ship in Lord H Nelson command, won the battle of Trafalgar and lost his life on the same day. Just the number of sails on a ship like Victory. She is still the oldest commissioned ship in Britain.
Loving It!.....Hey, just an idea, can the plastic trash be incorporated into concrete and sunk for new reef systems? I'm sure there is some reason that won't work but it just popped in my head. Because of the Old sea dog, Delos, Uma and you guys, I keep staring at all the used 2000s Island packets that have been for sale here around Port Angeles and Seattle. If publisher's clearing house were to come here,..........I would be setting sail for the trades in weeks. Thanks for being inspirational!.
Thanks, Mike! That's a really interesting idea about using plastic trash in concrete for reefs or maybe even mooring systems! There are definitely some innovative projects out there exploring lots of different concepts. It’s awesome to hear that we’re inspiring you to consider sailing-those Island Packets are great boats! We would also love to have one, if only we would win the lottery!
Hope you guys are ok and safely in Auckland. It would be a pleasure to meet you both if you make it down to Wellington. Anything I can do to help with repairs/general help, hola out.
I enjoy your videos because what you show seems to me to be more realistic in daily life while making a several hundred NM crossing. I'm not saying that other sailors fake anything but I see a lot of "fluff" in their attempts to make it more interesting. I feel that I am experiencing everything that is going on. I don't have to try to see through the fluff.
Hey Scott! You'll see in a future video that we replace the water maker in New Zealand. We filled our water tanks with jerry can runs before we departed Tonga so we left with 150 gallons of water. While underway we don't use much because we aren't showering, etc.
Cute intro. This video taught me a lot. I learned a new silly underway game and how to pee while underway. You are close to the end of this journey. Great sail. And for someone who has never sailed, Hanna has done an incredible job. Salute to you, Hanna. Have fun, stay safe, see you next week.

When I watch these long passages, it makes me think about how they did it back in the day with way less technology. They had to love sailing. Great video.
Or how the explorers did it not knowing exactly where they would find land!
We always talk about this! Sailing is much different now. Not sure we could handle it back then!
I do the same thing, wondering how accurate celestial navigation and compass navigation was. GPS has probably saved many lives.
Love the way the cutter rig is working for you. I'm digging the yacht more and more. The center cockpit seems perfect for these long rides too. 5 ⭐️ episode!

Thanks, Dennis! We agree, Hannah was such a great addition! Maybe she will want to come back one day!
Fair winds and following seas friends!!
Thanks for the good vibes!
Looks rough‼️Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for coming along with us!
You guys are great! Thanks for the peeing lessons!! 😂😂Keep the vids coming!!
Thank you! Haha, glad you enjoyed the lesson!
Thanks for sharing. Great to see what life at sea really entails. Loved the reaction to squall coming in .e.g. everyone up and altering course to avoid the worst. Would be great to see on radar to if possible.
Thank you! We will try to get some footage of radar next time!
Altering course only requires the 1 on watch. Avoiding the worst.... Priceless.
--Forget the radar! Show the video.
Thankyou 😊
And thank you, for watching and commenting!
@@SailingOneLife I appreciate your description of the different sea life and the explanation of your sailing choices . Excellent program .
Thanks for keeping high spirits under difficult circumstances!
Thanks, Eduardo! Staying positive is key sometimes!
Thank you.
Thanks, Rick!
Great video! Gary, please don’t hold that screw driver, sharp end up, and fling your hand around while explaining something. One bad wave and there goes your eye! (Yes, I probably sound like your grandmother, but she wasn’t wrong!)
Hi Susan! You aren't wrong!.....and we know his grandma and his mom would appreciate your comment, too!
@@SailingOneLife so I assume you guys have been in NZ for a bit. Did you get to experience our crazy weather last week? Wind and hail! Nothing like a little horizontal precipitation to let you know you are here!
Until you have pee’d offshore you really have no idea! The gymnastics involved can be crazy!
Haha it can be quite the acrobatic adventure!
Hey Thomas! Yep, absolutely about the rig work. You may have noticed the loose shrouds in this episode... No bueno!
Hey guys! I just met the previous owner of “One Life” while sailing this weekend on Lake Hartwell GA/SC. He sends his regards!
Ah wow, Bob?! Very cool. Him and his wife, Vicki took such good care of our girl!
Yupp! He was checking out my new(‘72) Bristol 34 and swung by to say hi. He asked if I knew the channel & I said,”of course… I know your displacement is!” Love how real you guys are on the videos.
hahah great stuff. can't wait to show my bathroom at sea as well. ;0
🤣We will be waiting......
That's about what I figured. Thanks!
I do the same thing that Hannah does in the bathroom for power squeeze !!! LOL
😅😅Everyone has their own moves!
Hey Darcee! Thank you! We are happy you enjoyed this one! Peeing on a rolly boat is pretty entertaining, isn't it??
Monotony has to be the biggest battle .
You're not wrong-some days definitely feel like 'Groundhog Day' at sea!
@@SailingOneLife Each groundhog day, he learned things. To break the monotony, they pee.
Ah very cool! Can't imagine what a beauty she is!
Hello, Where are you three now? Are you still sailing to New Zealand or did you get there? And when is the next vid? Ciao. geo
Hi Geo! We just finished editing our arrival to NZ! Hope you check it out! We appreciate you checking in on us!
Hi Logan! Thank you! Unfortunately, our videos our quite behind real time. We appreciate you reaching out and will let you know if we need anything!
Hi , last video you were going to New Zealand then nothing. Hope you are doing good. 🙌✌️
Hi Anthony! All good, we just posted a new video today! Hope you check it out!
As a guy... yep.. head against the wall for sure.... when you pee. LOL.. you guys had me laughing with that one.
Hey Sam! Glad we could make you laugh!
I prefer to use the lee shrouds.
Thank you! Happy to hear this! We try to keep it real and share the genuine ups and downs of life at sea.
I don't know exactly how far you are behind Sailing Parley Revival. But that's where I heard about all the Lobsters in New Zealand.
Huh, narcissistic egotistical vs real sailing with a great crew 😊
Thanks, John! You are right, New Zealand has tons of lobbies as long as you are willing to brave the murky, cold waters!
You're so CALM in those seas, how do you sleep with all the noise? Exhaust will help, but it's hard.
Over time, you begin to adjust to the noises and the movement of the boat and become comfortable enough to catch some sleep.
It's the change n noise that wakes you up.
Been awhile.... you guys are OK I hope..........
Hey Sam! All is good, just busy! We posted a new video today! Hope you check it out!
@@SailingOneLife Thank God... good deal. TY. I will check it out for sure.*
Gary did you ever get that water maker fixed? If not how did you make that passage without it?
Hey Scott! You'll see in a future video that we replace the water maker in New Zealand. We filled our water tanks with jerry can runs before we departed Tonga so we left with 150 gallons of water. While underway we don't use much because we aren't showering, etc.
@@SailingOneLife The law of the sea: Everybody showers, or Nobody showers.
If you were designing a new boat wouldn’t it be better to have the heads oriented fore and aft?
Too much wasted space.
If space and layout allows, yes it would be preferable to be fore/aft.
I listened haha
the potty part is about right, even on a 21 foot center console it is the same, except is over the side of the boat.
Haha, sounds like you know the drill!
