I've got this engine in a Liberty 3.0R and had no idea the headers and exhaust system were so compromised. Very informative.
I'm not a fan of Subarus, but could listen to Al talking about stuff all day. It's great to hear someone who is passionate and knowledgeable. More like this please!
Have a go in a Mk2 Legacy twin turbo manual on some twisty stuff. They ride very nicely, have a lovely flat front end with low CoG and the grip levels are incredible 👌🏼
The reason I love watching the skid factory is for the hidden gems of professional knowledge that Al just gives away for free. Pay attention people your getting a free lesson. Keep up the good work.
Alan, the collector design is perfect. Looks beautiful too. The symmetry and colour is jaw dropping. A lot of work went into those.
In some ways I enjoy watching Al ramble and fab stuff more than I like the better MCM vids. Keep it up gents.
The intake manifold looks like a Facehugger from Alien and this disturbs me deeply.

One of my favorite features of the Subaru boxer engines is the squid/octopus/facehugger intake manifold

Spot on Al. My son turned 18 a couple of weeks ago and I bought him a Gen4 3.0RB wagon, which is P plate legal for him. I take it off him every chance I get. It's just as much fun as my old import Legacy B4 RSK

I've been planning to EZ30 'R' my '01 fozy ever since Supergramps. There's also a build thread out there somewhere of this guy who did an insane Baja build (as in the race, not the Subie) with an older Gen 1 Fozy and the Earlier EZ30 with the metal intake. That thing was indescribable.

I’ve just brought an old Gen 4 Outback (3ltr) for $4k with 245,000kms on clock. Live in Qld just on way home , a 7,000k return trip into South Oz to Lake Eyre and home via Strezlecki Track. This old gal is a champion, use no oil, and now happy to park it next to my old RS Turbo Lib.👌🏻
I’m amazed the EZ30r hasn’t caught people’s attention also. Perrin did an amazing build on one with twin turbs.
I bought a 2006 and put a raptor SC on it from the boys in Queensland. Fun car to drive now!

We bought a 2004 model 3.0 Outback 10 years ago because we couldn't afford a 3.0RB sedan at the time, despite the slow changing box and fly by wire throttle that shrugged whenever you asked it to reach for full acceleration, it was a powerful family wagon that hauled us all around in safety, comfort and relative frugality......
I eventually took out the central huge muffler which gave it a really nice rasp at higher revs, but wish I'd known what Al knows back then, proper extractors with high flow cats and 4 cylinder mufflers at the rear would have been the go :). The muffler shop I went to were clueless.....

Nice video, i am a DIY guy with a turbo 1st Gen EZ30D in a Factory Five 818. First gen also had air assist injectors. Bit of work to swap them out.

Funny you talk about Mark's setup. After Mark sold it, I ended up purchasing it off the 2nd owner, but finances and work got in the way in addition to having a change of heart and buying a ute, the kit sat dormant at home for a few years and now it's about to go to its new home on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing what this kit is capable of, just upset I never got around to putting it on my wagon

Such a good point: Engine needing to be up to snuff, and the turbo helps on top of that.

Good info! I've been toying with the plan of putting an H6 in my 2000 Impreza as the 2.5L is getting tired and I already have a turbo car. I was trying to decide between the EZ30 vs the 3.6L and AL looks to have answered that question for me!

Great video, very informative. I did my own EZ30R conversion based on being inspired with one of (I think) your first with the blue Forester, using a Vipec V88. I've done the same thing (EZ30R with Vipec V88) but to my 1988 L series offroading wagon. It's a bundle of fun and flies up massive sand dunes with ease. I love the idea of flat exhaust collectors - I have raptor headers and they hang down way too low for my liking. I also have a Raptor supercharger kit ready to bolt on but man, this video makes me want to turbo it instead! I really need to get it tuned better because it's a real bastard to start and it really shouldn't be.

Don't waste your time. The power is just too low. Stock motor = can't go far

@@BrickNewton if by the 'same engine' you mean the same engine block then yes. Without aftermarket internals they are junk, I wouldn't get too excited unless you plan to spend 3x the cars worth on it.

As someone who owns a gc8 and an 02 h6 outback I have always loved the power the 6 provides.
