      I'm watching through this, for the first time, on Netflix right now; I'm up to season 3, where they're fleshing out their campaign strategy. I love how Sam tells him not to fake "folksy," because he's not, he's very educated, and when he plays dumb it comes off as disingenuous.

    The 'woah boy' from Bartlett while reading the NASA intro is classic and Sam's hello Mr. President had me rolling, there was a reason everyone saw them as arrogant. The intellectual snobbery of the West Wing was a good thing.

    • @TV-fv1ih
      @TV-fv1ih 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Arrogant is not smart and educated doesn't mean smart and neither of them are related to intelligence! A number of Presidents from Harvard and Yale have proved that! The snobbery simply signals the insecurity of the characters! While very much portrayed as liberal, Sorkin had each of them all over the map, as they each displayed their faults and blind spots. One only has to watch "Charlies' tax return" clip!

      What's ironic is that all the principal players (actors, directors, writers, producers and yes even Aaron Sorkin) had agreed to another season showing the transition between Bartlett and Santos. NBC scrubbed it; citing poor ratings. Seems that an intelligent, well written program - moved to 4 different time slots on 3 different nights - seemed to do poorly - and today we get to watch some untalented wannabe sing on 4 nights a week, Thank God for cable, DVD's and PBS.

    • @Serai3
      @Serai3 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's not about smart, it's about cheap. "Reality" shows are far cheaper to produce. In fact, the glut of such crap that we swim in now came about precisely because the networks didn't want to pay for good shows - there was a massive writer's strike in 2000 that went on for quite a while. Since no scripted shows could be produced, the networks jumped hard on the "reality" bandwagon and good TV went down the sewer.

    I don't know what you are all talking about. "Me" was properly used in that sentence structure. When listing people "I" is commonly used at the end, such as "Joe, Tom and I" or "You and I". If, however, you list yourself in the middle, it is best to use "me". So when Sam says, "You, me, and 60,000 children across America....." he actually is correct. Just like, "You, me and Tom are going to the movies" versus "You, Tom and I are going to the movies".

    • @christinaspeirs2494
      @christinaspeirs2494 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Remove you and Tom. You wouldn't say "Me is going to the movies" or "Us are going to the movies". It's nothing to do with where it appears in the sentence, it is whether you are the subject or the object.

    • @fomalhaut5
      @fomalhaut5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In casual speech, "me" is fine in that situation, but not in formal writing like speeches. It is part of the subject of the verb, so the nominative "I" is correct, not the accusative "me".

    "Very unique" is one of my pet peeves. "Unique" means "one of a kind", and it is not a synonym for "unusual". Something either is unique or it is not, it cannot be qualified as very unique or anything like that.

    • @daveinindy
      @daveinindy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +MegaFortinbras - I get the pet peeve thing. Mine is the use of "methodology" in place of "method". I agree that "very unique" is at least needlessly wordy. But "unique" also means "distinctive". I suppose you could make a case for applying such a qualifier to it. The use of "very" can also - as I believe to be the case here - represent a form of emphasis of the point being made. That's commonly the reason for the application of "very" to just about anything in every day speech - and the reason it grows (very) tiring to hear from most mouths.
