Aaron Sorkin has said that the biggest regret he had was not getting Emily/Ainsley as a permanent star. But with the show only in its second season and already having a large main cast all they could offer was a recurring guest role. When CSI Miami was in the works she was approached by the writers and offered a permanent leading role for that show. And with a lead role comes more job security and more money. Realistically, at the time, she made the right decision and still came back throughout the series as a guest star. But I think the show would have benefited greatly having her as a lead. Her chemistry with the cast, Rob Lowe especially, was astounding. My favourite scene between the two of them will always be Blame It On The BossaNova. But there are brilliant scenes thrown in there too. Emily herself has even said that she would have loved to stay on The West Wing but she needed something with more security so she ended up going with CSI.
I liked that they brought her back in the final season. Ainsley was desperate to come back, and C.J. fought for her. Both had learned that Republicans and Democrats can work well together if they respect each other. And, like President Reagan said,”...if you don’t care who gets the credit.” I wish D.C. could remember that now. I liked Emily on CSI:Miami. But anyone could have played that part. I hated that she wasn’t kept on WW.

She has a point. Of course, the real issue is that allowing certain schools to buy their own textbooks would result in textbooks in some schools, that falsely claim that abstinence is an effective form of contraception, that the earth is 6000 years old, or that the civil war was about States wanting to exercise their own rights. But other than that, she has a few good points. I always liked the character of Ainsely. She was a great, likeable character with republican beliefs. nudist0885 It’s the most effective if that is the choice you make but teaching it is not effective. It increases the rate of teen pregnancy. Inevitably teens are going to have sex. If abstinence means 3 in 10 have sex and 2 get pregnant but teaching about safe sex means 5 in 10 have sex but only 1 gets pregnant teaching safe sex is better. Those numbers are just examples but you get the picture.

What’s noticeable about this clip, other than how great it is, and funny, is that it shows how routinely politicians why and or present the facts to disparage the other side. It was a lie to say the bill provided no money for textbooks, but it’s the kind of thing politicians get away with lying about all the time. Because the truth is in the details. And most moderators don’t correct the information or don’t know the fine details.
@bornbillsmith I think the best way to fix a local school system is to sponsor grassroots political action. If you provide people with the knowledge and resources to organize politically they can create change from within. This seems like a more long term and effective solution to improving local governance that the top-down approach of dictating how funds be spent.
Ive finally just started to watch The West Wing just recently. Thanks due in part to me stumbling across a clip of The Newsroom which I started watching and liked very much. And when I found out it was done by Sorkin, which I then discovered was the one who did The West Wing. I started to watch it. Ainsley Hayes has been one of my favorite characters so far. I was thinking she was brought in to kinda take the place of the short hair brunet girl Mandy (Moira Kelly), which I found her character rather annoying. So I was happy. However Im at the end of season 2 and so far Ainsley hasnt been in a whole lot of episodes. Which is disappointing. And judging by the clips Ive seen of Ainsley here on youtube, it doesn't look like she will be in many more episodes. Or any more episodes at all. Which is very disappointing. Was hoping that Sam S and her were going to become a thing. Guess not.

The music they used for Capital Beat is the same that has been used on the UK ITV 10'oclock news since the 60's. Sounds really weird to hear it on TWW.
Love this episode
@hansellius It's ITV New's old theme.
@TheAxG Ahh, ITV - I was young when that was playing. But at least I'm not losing my mind. Thanks for confirming that for me.
That music sounds very similar to music that used to be on ITN's News at 10 from Britain. If there were a gong from a big bell I might become suspicious!
dickyhood It’s a very close imitation but it’s not the same jingle. Who could forget the ITV news at 10 jingle with the super dramatic gong of Big Ben.

The presenter's face at 2.51. Gets me every time!
Doesn't Get old, now does it.

One of my favorite scenes ;)
God I love this show
@markkremser it looked like just a photo which they could have taken before the show started
That's how to do a Republican version of The West Wing: _President Ainsley Hayes !_
It would be glorious!
She WIPED the floor with him!
1.5 billion ah the good ole days. Now it would be 1.5 Trillion!!
best part about this is sam doesn't resent her, he treats her as an equal
What’s noticeable about this clip, other than how great it is, and funny, is that it shows how routinely politicians why and or present the facts to disparage the other side. It was a lie to say the bill provided no money for textbooks, but it’s the kind of thing politicians get away with lying about all the time. Because the truth is in the details. And most moderators don’t correct the information or don’t know the fine details.
@nascarkraz This just reminds me why I miss The West Wing so much!
I'm sure we can all agree that the Republican Party has undergone a slight change over the 150 years
@bornbillsmith I think the best way to fix a local school system is to sponsor grassroots political action. If you provide people with the knowledge and resources to organize politically they can create change from within. This seems like a more long term and effective solution to improving local governance that the top-down approach of dictating how funds be spent.
Name a happier Toby moment
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
God I love this.
Guess not.
You'll be fine.......Don't overreach.... Hilarious!! You've never met Ainsely apparently. I love, love, L O V E strong women. I go back and rewatch at least one season EVERY year!!!
this gets me every. single. time XD
One person’s pain is another person’s pleasure.
As if any government, in any country, would take part in the pork barrel buffet!
That sounds rather like the BBC intro music when they're opening the show (about 1:20 - 30). Seems a little odd.
If this is how Josh and Toby treat a friend, I'd hate to be their enemy :)
