My father was the only boy out of 6 to see 12. He had 5 sisters who lived into their adulthood with 2 living into their 90's and his oldest sister to 101! His father died when dad was 10 and after he was grown, until he married, he lived with his mother and grandmother. He married my mother who was one of 4 girls. They had 2 daughters. He worked in an office with a dozen women. He called his life 'swimming deep in the Estrogen Ocean'.

The post-Sorkin scripts are an interesting study in contrasts. The writers who succeeded him had the challenge of following one of the best in the business. IMO, they fail to achieve his musical rhythm and dazzling counterpoint but in many cases (this is a good example) the dialog flows well and I find the characters personalities better defined.

From what I've heard the model for The West Wing was the Clinton administration. Clinton is a Rhodes Scholar and had some very smart people working with him. So did Obama. Their staffs were well qualified for their jobs and I'm sure the conversations were interesting and informative. It's only idealistic in that Barlett is a genius with a good heart and not the stereotypical craven politician. And that's exactly what we need right now.

Tbe thing is, this is meant to be pitying for another reason. It's not 'oh, aren't daughters difficult, hahaha', it's 'you don't have sons you only have worthless daughters, you poor bastard'. Kind of makes it less charming.

2:35 Lexor, Egypt? How did that take end up being the keeper? That's the second time in as many days I've seen a dodgy take make the final cut.
There's a short piece from about 20 years ago featuring a whole bunch of A-list actors reading the Declaration of Independence. During the portion critical of King George, Kevin Spacey says "inestimitable" instead of "inestimable".

      Don't speak much, do you?
As someone who has done professional voiceover work for over 30 years, I assure you, even the very best of the best mispronounce a word from time to time. It happens. I know a lot of other voiceover actors who wish they were as good during the rest of the week as you think you are on Sunday.

      J-F Bradley
So what did he mean by that ?
      Kill him ?
Or that Hoynes still belongs to god ?
      -------------------------------------------------
Its all blatantly based on The Book of Job .
      Did ye see that ?
      Literally word for word .
Job was the gods (the worlds) most loyal of gods servants on Earth .
By implication , that the US President is the most righteous of gods people - so righteous that god tested him by instructing satan to test him with affliction (MS) , attacks , and the death of his wife , then his daughter ......at which point Job (and the President) confronts god directly , one to one .
Thats why hes shown speaking Latin ; an exclusively religious language that generally ,only Priests know.
Its a great scene , but not for entertainment .

    • @RegentPrime
      @RegentPrime 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

He was saying that he wouldn't run for President again and that he would let Hoynes run instead, but after the scene where he talked with Mrs. Landingham's "ghost" he decided to run again anyways. That and he got the MS long before he decided to run for President. And his speaking latin was explained by him being a devout Catholic earlier in the season.

      Quoting Douglas Adams.
It is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

The man's a great actor, but speaking frankly, Charlie and Emilio are trainwrecks, and it evidently has a lot to do with their father being a drunk. He's certainly aged well, but never forget that actors are malleable and deceptive creatures by nature. Also, don't forget that the same man who played President Barlett *also* played President Stillson in The Dead Zone.
