    Without all the scientific, political, sociological and artistic advancements made by the mentally ill and physically impaired, where would we be? Being born different either indirectly or directly led them to making great impacts on the world.

    Hallo Mr. Skavlan. I saw your interview with the Dalai Lama and now I saw this one. I think you would like to interview Dr. Abraham Verghese, the surgeon who wrote My own country and Cutting for Stone. I would very much lilke to see such and interview. Dr. Verghese is a caring phisician.

      He is young and the reality isn't really part of his world, yet. People often like to think if you are positive it won't happen to you or that they have the power to overcome bad illnesses with determination. Unfortunately, that is not so, but no doubt being positive if you can will make doing what is necessary a bit easier and probably be easier for loved ones. I think the doctor is correct, it's not fair to lessen the impact of the disease by blaming the sufferer.

    • @ivanleon6164

      surely he has seen a lot of pain in the family around the illness of his grandfather, so the reaction is understandable as first reaction.

    i don't know the man in the blue suit, but i do know that i have less ailments when i'm happy and fulfilled, vs being sad or negative. SO there's something there. that he doesn't know.

    • @siddharthraychaudhuri7250
      @siddharthraychaudhuri7250 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      How can you correlate having less ailments because you are happy? Maybe the reverse is true, maybe you are happy when you have less ailments and sad if you do. Being happy or trying to have a positive attitude can help you live and face life better. A negative attitude can you feel miserable. And what he just said was about cancer, he said that nobody causes cancer by being sad. By the way he is Doctor, a top cancer researcher and a Pullitzer prize winning author. Maybe you should read his two books, 'The Emperor of maladies' and the 'The Gene'.

      @@siddharthraychaudhuri7250 you can think and guess and maybe this, maybe that. I don't know much other than my own experiences of life. I'm 31. I've noticed if something seems not right with me (i.e. stomach ache, headache, hungover, sore muscles) all i have to do is make myself feel good. I can't explain it. Maybe you should research WimHof, since I learned from him.

    • @barbaridoz
      @barbaridoz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      He didn't want to generalise that having positive attitude will help to cure the cancer. You have to understand that he is dealing with cancer patients on daily basis so he knows the stats on top of his head. My question you: if you are thinking positively, does it cure your illness or just help you to not think about the pain?
