You don’t have any first hand knowledge of the vast majority of the scientific body. It is faith based one way or another, as is the nature of the human species.

In religion, most claims cannot survive scientific scrutiny (e.g. replicating the act of turning water into wine). If you're religious, that's great. But science is a different domain entirely, primarily renowned for the fact that faith does not factor into the equation. In order for anything to be established as a scientific principle, it must be able to be replicated by strangers (no faith here).

Jennifer Doudna won the Nobel Prize in March for her CRSPR research. Arthur Isaacson has written a wonderful book about her "The Code Breaker".
Great book. Monumental scientific achievement. Incredibly scary.
