I used to wake up somewhere bear 4 in the morning to Bob Ross and stay up until the sun rose (they always played 2-3 episodes) and watch him with my mom. As time went, I found out my older brother watched him too. My mom would always go to work early in the morning and I got up to watch him with my brother. This was one of our favorite paintings. After my brother died when I was 8 (he was 21), the only thing that brought me out of depression was Bob. Now I'm reaching my brother's age when he died and I still love to watch Bob Ross, not only in memory of my brother, but because he represents the peace I needed in my life after my brother died.
HippyLotus great story about how Bob has made such a huge impact on peoples lives. I can relate to him bringing me happiness and calmness from anxiety. Hope you stay strong.

Not many know...few still carry the memories with them. But in the days before the great Bob Ross, paint brushes were the most commonly possessed objects in all the world. Young Bob was actually attacked by a bedeviled fanbrush...nearly cost him an eye. Bob did is best to wipe the ordeal from his mind, but, alas...he could not.
Bob found himself drawn to painting...well, he liked painting, but he LOVED cleaning the brushes. He thought cleaning the brushes was like symbolically cleaning his soul. Then, one fateful day, a stubborn blob of paint on an old 2” brush required vigorous cleaning to remove...bob struck his easel with it *THWACK* and the room went dark and the windows slammed and wind whipped and Bobs ordeal from his youth came flooding back. A weaker man would have burned the entire painting studio to the ground around him, but not our Bob, no. He grabbed the next brush and the next and “beat the devil” out of each one in turn.

a few years back I was thinking about selling some of my paintings at the local weekend market, the woman who owned it wanted to see them first, she was an "artist" of course so not very impressed with my offerings made the comment that they reminded her of Bob Ross, she meant it as a slight but to me it was the best compliment I'd ever got!
Hi Dolores, I agree! Bob Ross was a master of creating the illusion of depth and distance on a flat canvas, and was a keen observer of the effect of light and shadow. If your paintings remind someone of Bob Ross you have every reason to be proud!

I truly find it funny that I am kinda like Bob Ross... I also lived in Alaska. I lived there in Anchorage though for 14 years! Both my boys were born there... And now I live in Florida.. And have been here 16 years..and just started to paint by watching Bob Ross!

I always watched him as a kid to now...never realized he was my introduction to asmr till years later. Because he's so calming. My 6 year old likes to watch him now.

Most peeps who give the thumbs-down to these vids are just childish trolls who are angry at the world and can't find any other way to get people to pay attention to them. But I did happen upon this article from a blogger who is happy that Bob got people to pick up a paintbrush, but absolutely slams his technique: emptyeasel.com/2007/01/29/helpful-or-harmful-the-bob-ross-method-of-painting/. Me, personally, I LOVE Bob's technique. I started painting because of him, and I don't care if my trees DO look like "Bob Ross trees," I'm not a snob artist. I go to galleries and see paintings by "professionals" who've "learned to draw" that look like my 5-year-old grandchild did it (and are supposedly worth thousands of dollars). People love what I paint so much they ask me to paint things for THEM. THAT'S what art is about. So screw the snobs. Bob Ross was and still is a rock star.

the joy of painting ran for about 400 episodes, but bob ross did 3 copies of every painting he did, one for a reference, the one that was filmed, and one afterwards for photographers, so (because he sold every single painting he did on the show) he sold almost 1200 paintings, all the money was given to charity.
Zachary skittles he actually never sold any paintings he did on the joy of painting and was never paid once for doing the show. he became rich from his painting instruction company and selling painting kits.
Sicilian Gecko his business partners have every painting that he did for the shows. maybe he did recreations, but those 3 in the episodes, they have. the Smithsonian wants some for an exhibit.
Your Information is 100% Wrong. There was recently a news piece about Bob Ross and The people who run Bob Ross Experience. And the People in Charge have every Painting that Ross Painted on The Joy of Painting…And None are for sale, Even Bob Ross said on his show several times, he didn’t sell any of his own paintings. They even said there were someone putting Bob Ross Paintings on Ebay, which were fakes! Ur info is truly Wrong! Failure.

Megan Garcia yeah I've noticed that in the first 6 seasons he hadn't completely become what we all know yet. 1 and 2 he was totally more monotone, 3-6 he kicked it up a notch, but then after this season he started his Bob Ross Co. brand and I think he really decided to run with his quirks. Just something I picked up after enjoying his show for so long. He became on fire into the teens and from then on out it kinda goes in waves with little subtleties. What an awesome guy... It gives me the chills with joy and sadness at the same time when I watch his very last episodes, when he was dying of cancer, yet he sounds more optimistic and excited about painting, and the show, and ideas for future episodes than ever. Almost like it was only the beginning...

Majority of his audience probably didn't even paint lol. People watched Bob Ross because they just wanted to watch Bob Ross, y'know?
So I just started watching the video and I have reasons to believe we're dealing with an impostor here. As I'm typing this the painter has beaten the devil out of his brush twice and he didn't laugh about it or even crack a smile once. This is not the Bob I got to know and love.
There are a couple of times where he makes a slight "frustrated" type of sigh. This video he seems down about something.......I think.

Of all Bob Ross paintings (I've watched dozens of his shows, both on TV back in the day and now on TH-cam), this one is by far'n'away, my favourite. The colours in the water are fantastic. Mumma, thank you for being a painter and introducing me to this gem of a human being.
