The FAA is the issue. Levi's is right along the extended centerline of Runway 12L/30R at Norman Mineta International Airport. The FAA would say no because it's too close to the airport.
This stadium is a sh1thole, and I’m a niners fan born and raised in the Bay. Should have never moved out of the city. This stadium is going to age out fast, hoping they rethink the location and eventually move back to SF, just like the Warriors have done.
Wasn't this a stadium that was designed for San Francisco but they just used it in a different location? 50 miles changes the dynamics of how a stadium works, you don't have that wind that will offer relief, even though the sun isn't trying to murder you in SF
Over the last decade or so, there have been some incredible new NFL stadiums built. Think Rams/Chargers, Raiders, Vikings, Falcons and of course them Cowboys. However…. Amongst that, two standout for being absolute trash. The 49ers and the Giants/Jets home field. Why oh bloody why didn’t they have some type of roof - Metlife Stadium especially. That should’ve had a retractable roof without doubt. It’s the same problem with the new Bills stadium and that isn’t even finished yet. I mean with no roof, what’s the actual point. A complete waste of time. Those three stadiums won’t stand the test of time very well at all!
Levis Stadium was originally designed for Candlestick Point - one of the coldest and windiest part of San Francisco. So it was optimized for sun and heat. When the city and the 49ers didn't agree to the location, the 49ers moved the stadium to Santa Clara and kept the old design. So now the stadium is now optimized for heat in one of the hottest parts of the Bay Area. It was too much money to redeisgn the stadium.
If California’s Great America will be sold to the Niners, there’s your new location for their new stadium, if the Santa Clara county government is up for the challenge.
The average high in Santa Clara in August is 82. That is not that hot compared to other parts of the country. How many college football stadiums are hotter in August and Sept.. They do play a lot of day games and some have noon kickoffs.
It’s very important that rich people in the boxes are able to look down upon on all the hot, wet plebs across the field. A roof would simply make things a little too equal.
As an aviation nerd, I can confirm that FAA regulations are very strict, and most cities that have a large airport cannot build any mid-rise or high-rise buildings within a 3-5-mile radios due to safety reasons. Furthermore, Levi's is about 5.7 miles away from the San Jose airport, so there would be significant difficulty filling official legal documents allowing them to build something like that.
They could build a canopy type deal to provide some shade and it would not be that much higher where it would interfere with landings, they don't fly right over the building. Its a bit absurd if you ask me.

The San Jose runways are right inline with the stadium, but they are about 2 miles away, so I don't see a problem. A shade screen would not increase the height of the stadium very much.
@@snotnosewilly99-- About 6 miles away, but the equipment needed for a crane operation would interfere with the ILS to the 12s and also affect go-arounds on the 30s.

Trust me I’ve been to plenty of concerts and unfortunately I got the sunny side and you sweat your ass off.
Levi's is my local stadium, so being a Hawks fan, I go once a year (or sometimes two if they meet in the playoffs like last year). When the weather is nice, the open air feel is actually very pleasant, but I always sit on the shady side. I always feel bad for those sitting on the sunny side though. Even on a normal Bay Area afternoon, the actual temperature may not be that high, but the sun beating down on you can be rather uncomfortable. Among locals, Levi's is much maligned, as many compare it to an "Erector set," looking rather incomplete and temporary, in the vain of Miami's DRV PNK soccer stadium.
The Roof will not help the Bleacher--seat fans turn into RED Lobster COLOR , the dark RED color or Sun Burns will help to cheer the team red color . The 49ers management knows this when they build the stadium 😅
The problem is that the stadium is along the extended 12L/30R centerline at SJC. The FAA would not allow a crane because it would interfere with the ILS.

How I feel at Comerica Park in Detroit, go to a game that starts before 7:15, going get roasted by the sun, the only cover they have is the last rows in lower bowl which are expensive Tiger Den seats. So I feel for 49ers fans. People complained about old Tiger Stadium with the obstructed viewing with the polls which was true for some seats, however was a much better place to watch a game, protected from the sun, rain, elements. I’m 41, I have no desire sitting in heat, cold, rain, not with how much tickets, concessions, parking is, time consuming, just not worth my time, money, yes Comerica Park unfortunate home of the Detroit Tigers since 2000 with very little renovations done in the last 20 plus years outside of a new scoreboard, a bar added in the upper level, the fencing is terrible in the outfield, was originally a big park, they went the cheap route moving the fences in, love if you did a video on Comerica Park since you do such great work.
Comerica really is a disappointment when compared to Tiger (Briggs) Stadium. I grew up about a mile from the stadium so I was very fortunate to experience every facet of the stadium. They all talk about developing something like Battery Park in Atlanta. We had that in Detroit and game day was just magical to a 5 year old. My grandfather, dad and uncle knew everyone and everyone knew us. It wasn't just that the stadium was intimate but all the people were too and not just in the stadium but all the business owners and workers in the neighborhood. Ah there it is, that was the secret sauce, The Neighborhood. Comerica does not feel like that and the only other place I experienced the same vibe is Wrigley. Them Cubbies fans would rather not watch baseball if it meant leaving Wrigley.
I just watched rest of video and you just mentioned the comparison to Ford Field as I alluded too. Like I said we experience heat, sun at Comerica Park, could be 70 and sunny and that sun just bakes you in Detroit. My friends are middle eastern and they couldn’t stand the heat either, thought maybe it’s just myself not being a fan of the sun and getting burned of out there for a half hour straight. Crazy all the money spent and they get the one thing that matters most wrong and that is comfort for the fans. I never been to San Francisco I heard stories how Candlestick Park was chilly with the wind and being off the bay. Levi Stadium is in Santa Clara which is 45 mins from San Francisco, so different setup.
That's interesting. I've been to most of the MLB ballparks and I have to say the worst experience I had with the sun was also in Detroit. And this was a night game! I was praying for the sun to hurry up and disappear behind the upper deck.
Something with the worst stadiums in the world. Levi's Stadium sucks for being open and too exposed, and Tropicana Field (I know it's baseball) sucks for being a domed stadium. Idk just something about their designs that people hate.
I've honestly gotten used to it and it's not that bad. Maybe there's been bettet luck with weather, maybe it's because the team has been better but I havent really had a major complaint about the sun. It's not great but it's not that bad
People are soft as baby poop. It rarely gets above the mid eighties in Santa Clara. The weather during football season is near perfect. I love Levi Stadium.
People quit whining about the stadium. It’s just a stadium that has a very good team playing in it. So, what if it’s a little hot for a couple games early season. Get over it. Football should never be played under a roof. Think about it. The games you remember and are drawn to are snow and rain games not a game in a dome. If they are really upset about it they could do what they did in Miami which is to cover the fans but leave the field open.
Ok yeah let’s say you are correct on the roof issue. But couldn’t they do something more eye pleasing like something like Panthers stadium or Gillette stadium? If I was the engineer I would’ve inspired myself in a more modern version of the packers stadium too. All those stadiums I mentioned are beautiful and without roof. But Levi’s stadium just looks very ugly. Sure the interior it’s nice but for two billion I’m sure they could’ve come with a more decent design.
Look at where SJC is...and where Levi's Stadium is. Levi's Stadium is straight down the extended centerline of Runaway 12L/30R. The issue is engine out performance on takeoff from the 30 (or go-arounds) or final approaches to the 12s.
People dont realize this stadim was to be built at Candlestick which would be perfect as a raider fan Niners and Raiders should be next to the bay water playing in cold rain what that was bay area football but the owners fucked it all up
I was going to go to a game. I went to one of the last games against the Packers at candlestick and it was hot, but there was a little bit of a breeze like two or three years later it was down at Santa Clara, and this guy was a chef and he had a meat thermometer, and he put it on his seat at halftime And when he came back he looked at it and it registered 112°. Granted it was 86° game time but in that seat it was baking what a mistake the stadium was and still is and game time experience at candlestick was twice as good if not betterthan that this was a rush job by Santa Clara and there’s not a lot of surrounding area and getting to and from the game is just as bad as it was a candlestick but at least candlestick had better weather cooler anyway

Meanwhile cities like Cleveland and Cincinnati have white elephants doing nothing for months every year. It's pretty awesome sitting in the sun in short sleeves when it's below zero outside. And the best part is, it's already paid for, 20 years ahead of schedule.
Why does it need one? The bay has temperature weather
They are at the end of the South Bay.
I mentioned this at the city of Santa Clara Town hall meeting. Before the stadium was built. It fell on Deaf Ears. They are now paying for their idiocy. A high number of people attending on the Eastern portion of the stadium. Will not stay in their seats during the Hot Summer days.
Yorks got a sweet deal thats why
What they should have done is build it next to Candlestick.
@@jcngokai-76I doubt it. The mayor got recalled after they built Levi's
The average high in Santa Clara in August is 82. That is not that hot compared to other parts of the country. How many college football stadiums are hotter in August and Sept.. They do play a lot of day games and some have noon kickoffs.
I’m baffled at this video and some of the comments cuz I’m not sure what is so bad about it. I’m sure it gets hot in direct sun, but still…
the sun beating down on all of the plastic seats makes it hotter.
@@EvanEscherthey stand up not sit 😂
@@jamesnguyen_1 standing up won't change much as long as there's no shade, since the area around the sun-soaked seats will still feel hot.
Why doesn't Levistick have a roof??? Because it's Candlestick!!!
Should have built it at Candlestick Point.
It’s very important that rich people in the boxes are able to look down upon on all the hot, wet plebs across the field. A roof would simply make things a little too equal.
because the York family is cheap as hell
I’ve been saying that since they took over the team . The Niners deserve so much better
And it's also right down the extended centerline of Runway 12L/30R. I suspect the FAA more than anything.
They could build a canopy type deal to provide some shade and it would not be that much higher where it would interfere with landings, they don't fly right over the building. Its a bit absurd if you ask me.
@@scotttildYeah, it doesn’t really make sense. FAA regulations are really weird. It’s like I all building within a 13 mile radius in line with a runway has to be (x) height.
Can’t tell you how grateful I am that I passed on the opportunity to work in that venue. Fuck The NFL.
Will Levi's be the first of the billion dollar stadiums to be abandoned?
Nah just think it’s the first to get a billion dollar renovation lol
@@thetitanofwallstreet7839its possible. Rumors have it to where they want to move back for San Francisco proper. But San Francisco should make some land available for them in future. Same thing for the N.Y Jets moving back to Queens
@@sirchi8731the York’s will never build a new stadium in SF they are cheap the only way is if they sell the team
@@angmayo5403 it's not about being cheap. To be honest San Francisco real estate is overrated and prices need to go down
@@angmayo5403 The York's are cheap alright! But things are changing in the professional world of stadiums. Cities are making these ownerships build their stadiums with Private Funding, & not Public. In SF the SF Giants, & the GSW built their own stadiums with Private Funding. The York's if they decide to move or renovate will have to pay with their own money.
Even without the FAA issue, that stadium has completely weird shape and height dimensions that make adding an overhang overly complicated.
The roof plan photo looks like Perfect BAND AID 😅😂
I've been to Levi's 3 times. The location is terrible, as it's hard to get in and out of. I've only been to games at night, so I can't say about day games. The food is also overpriced.
SoFi did it much better with the same problem.
Its hot inside sofi
I hate SoFi. Levi is much better.
Namely they built more than half the Stadium underground so the roof wouldn't cause issues for incoming airplanes.
It's hot as hell in Sofi and that's with a roof!
because of how close it is to a airport
The San Jose runways are right inline with the stadium, but they are about 2 miles away, so I don't see a problem. A shade screen would not increase the height of the stadium very much.
The western part of Levi's is right along the 12L/30R extended centerline.
@@snotnosewilly99-- About 6 miles away, but the equipment needed for a crane operation would interfere with the ILS to the 12s and also affect go-arounds on the 30s.
Most 49er fans I know preferred candlestick park over Levi’s stadium.
😂😂😂
Want a miserable stadium if you’re sitting in the sun? METLIFE STADIUM!!!!! Grant it it’s a good stadium but in the summertime time and you are in the sunny side of the stadium, you are going to be miserable as hell. Trust me I’ve been to plenty of concerts and unfortunately I got the sunny side and you sweat your ass off.
They should of stayed in San Francisco and my Raiders should of stayed in Oakland simple as that two Bay Area teams playing in different cities smh
Jeez, this guy is absolutely OBSESSED with roofs, isn't he lol
Santa Clara is hella far from SF. SF is always cool due to the Bay but San Jose is nowhere near the water.
The stadium is about 1.25 miles from the bay…
It’s a good stadium it’s just in the wrong city to the structure of it was literally designed for SF’s weather patterns
they forgot that they are not at Candlestick anymore, where it was cold and windy. Santa Clara is hot in the summer months.
Thankfully, the pink stadium is only a temporary stadium. I have to give it to you that yes Levi stadium does look a little incomplete.
No worries. They print money in CA.
The Roof will not help the Bleacher--seat fans turn into RED Lobster COLOR , the dark RED color or Sun Burns will help to cheer the team red color .
The 49ers management knows this when they build the stadium 😅
It would have to be a complete roof structure because of the sun is almost directly in the middle
The problem is that the stadium is along the extended 12L/30R centerline at SJC. The FAA would not allow a crane because it would interfere with the ILS.
If you are on the lower seats the heat is bearable if you are in the middle you will get sunburn really bad. If you are in the suits or the structure nothing really matters. free water free food but as long as you dont seat in the middle you are golden as 49ers
They should have put field level below grade to avoid the height issue
I guarantee you that everyone that went to wrestle mania at Levi’s hated that stadium 😂
Lies
The place is a dump, very fitting for their fans
The design is terrible even if you’re not taken into account the sun. This stadium is just not up to standard with newer stadiums.
Ugly stadium. I know the Raiders are glad they decided to not share a stadium with the 49ers ala Giants/Jets
And they call SoFi Levi south for some reason but hate the Levi North over the heat
Something with the worst stadiums in the world. Levi's Stadium sucks for being open and too exposed, and Tropicana Field (I know it's baseball) sucks for being a domed stadium. Idk just something about their designs that people hate.
I went to a game in early October 2015. 49ers played Packers. I sat in the sun in the upper deck. Yes, it was hotter than hell. Awful.
they should have studied the Roman colosseum it had an overhang awning
I've honestly gotten used to it and it's not that bad. Maybe there's been bettet luck with weather, maybe it's because the team has been better but I havent really had a major complaint about the sun. It's not great but it's not that bad
Lol as someone that works construction in a hoodie sometimes I don't even notice it especially if I have a cold beer
People are soft as baby poop. It rarely gets above the mid eighties in Santa Clara. The weather during football season is near perfect. I love Levi Stadium.
If any American clicked on this video because they actually wondered why….smdh!!
People only complained about the sun when the team was bad. Now that they're good they sell it out
It's a cheap, poorly planed eyesore. What an embarrassment.
hope another city on the bay can do them better with a beautiful stadium.
I was built for Corporate money
No for everday fans
Stay faithful
Californians pass out at 80 degree heat. Every open air stadium in the south has hotter games.
I’m going to Levi’s Stadium next Friday for their preseason game vs my Chargers it’s supposed to be 75 that day and in the evening
Not hot in winter /fall good weather
Levi's Stadium will also be hosting some the matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Yeah Broncos Cincinnati or Tennessee would’ve been better stadiums honestly. 😊
Wonder how SoFi got to build a roof when LAX is across the street 🤔🤔
SoFi is BETWEEN the extended centerlines of LAX. Levi's is literally along the extended centerline.
Cover the Palace of Auburn Hills
Hard Rock Stadium, aka the 21st Century Alamodome.
They can not go up as it is in the flight path of the nearby airport
Something you are missing is there is a airport they can’t build nothing else
70 + not hot
Who cares if it looks wierd. And York isnt paying for it because he had to pay for the stadium. The citizens refused to pay for a rich guys stadium
