@@OrjanGrahn yeah I really hope they cover all the parking lots with fan experience s for the WC. But the good thing is they have a lot of space to play around with.
The World Cup is once every 4 years event that the world watches with billions of people whereas the Super Bowl is once a year event in the United States. Revenue wise for the host city, the Super Bowl likely supersedes the World Cup!
Super Bowl is the biggest sports event in the world. World cup doesn't compare in the slightest. When you consider that only two teams participate in the Super Bowl it actually becomes laughable to think that a 4 year event that includes dozens of teams is even in the realm of the SB. The statistics don't lie. The SB is the most watched event in the World EVERY SINGLE YEAR. American football wins.
What most fans not familiar with this area of the country don't understand is that the Jets are a Queens/Brooklyn/Long Island team while the Giants are Manhattan, Westchester, and Northern Jersey. Moving the Jets to the other side of the Hudson is like moving any other team 150 miles away. The traffic going from LI to the Meadowlands is horrific. 3 hours each way for a 3 hour game. You spend more time driving than at the game unless you want to tailgate and make a whole day out of it. As a result, when the Jets have a "home" game, its usually filled with about 50% Jets fans, 25% of opposing teams fans, and 25% of Giants fans who can't get seats to Giants games. There is no home field advantage. It's been around since 2010 and I have never attended a game there and have no desire to do so. Jets need to move back to Queens next to CitiField
No space in Brooklyn or even Queens to build a retractable roof stadium. But what about in Nassau County or if closer to the city on a barge or reclaimed land in the East River? Manhattan or the Borough's? A true Jets home stadium. Able to host college bowl games and college basketball final 4's. International Soccer matches, and more Superbowls!!!
my family has had jets season tickets for over 60 years now since the franchise started and let me tell you trying to get out of there is a nightmare when trying to go through the lincoln tunnel also i would say when its non division opponents and teams that are far away its like 65 percent jets 20 percent opposing and 10-15 percent giants
@@ThunderPlayz599 I've tried driving the Lincoln Tunnel or head north over the GWB. Both completely suck. Trains are slow and you have to make multiple switches. There is no convenient way to get there so I'm just as happy to watch on TV. I would have loved for the new stadium built specifically for the Jets on the West Side where Hudson Yards is now. The NIMBYs in Manhattan killed it, they thought it would bring too much traffic. They're already living in the most densely populated area in the US!!! Idiots.
His obsession with every stadium needing a roof is getting to be eye rolling, just in my view. I almost want to dare him to make a video saying why a roof needs to be put on Lambeau Field just to have Packers fans go ape in the comments.
@@TheMrPeteChannel thank God that didn't happen, inflatable roofs are ugly as hell and there's a risk they'll tear open and collapse. Not to mention Lambeau Field would lose the cold weather element that is a key component of the stadiums legacy.
I was in this stadium for the first ever game with tickets in the field level club. Got to stand behind the Giants bench during the game which was a very cool element to see in a new stadium. Other than that, it was no big draw and I've never seen a reason to travel for another NFL game near New York City. It's quite plain as what should be a premier stadium.
What’s so stupid about it? Kids of all ages grew up playing football outdoors and learned to deal with the elements and then the pros get coddled by indoor stadiums.
In September 1981, I watched the Red Sox play a game against the Minnesota Twins at old Metropolitan Stadium. That was a weird place. (Ned Martin hated it, saying the broadcast booth was too high.) It was also a dump. It was never maintained, so it was rusting out. The next year, the Twins would move to the Metrodome. I couldn't wait to see that place! As a kid, I thought it would be cool if every team had a dome, and I even imagined one of those "inflated" roofs over Fenway Park. Boy, was I ever naive! The Metrodome was one of the worst stadiums ever built. (Ironically, the only one ever to be finished ahead of schedule and under budget.) Baseball and football players hated it. I know better now. If I had owned the Twins back in 1981, I would have taken Clark Griffith's suggestion and rebuilt the entire stadium, one section at a time. It would have been basically the same as the old Metropolitan Stadium, just more sturdy.
As a Packer fan I love stadiums right in the heart of town. The Lions the Vikings and the Bears(for now) are downtown. I've thought that Met-Life stadium has been blah from the start. They have more seats than Lambeau but have some seats are just too far up. That Jet's stadium plan was to be built over Hudson Yards so there would be no demolition needed and likely a much lower cost of real estate.
@SirJames917 Ok. I figured that, being built over a railyard would mean that it would be cheaper since they wouldn't have to worry about buying buildings, and demolishing them. I'm not familiar with real estate there. I guess that I didn't take into account air rights could be that expensive.
The NFL basically owed the Giants and the Jets for saving the league when they agreed to revenue-sharing decades of go. This is why the league gave them the Superbowl in the open-air stadium.
I was just there for the nhl stadium series game and my god that was a nightmare getting in and out, I don't want to go there ever again it looks and feels more like an institution than a stadium
Some people do not understand the concept of wind chill. It gets so windy in the area that it affected play in the old stadium. An open upper deck would also make it so much colder for the fans.
As someone that’s sat up there before. It’s freezing, especially with the wind chills. And since the NFL season is in the fall and winter, it can get real bad. It’s not like Baseball where it’s mostly played in warm weather
If a stadium is located in or close to the downtown area of a city then having a more open stadium would be nice to see a good view of the skyscrapers. But yeah MetLife is surrounded by a sea of parking lots so not a whole lot to see outside the stadium anyway.
Both teams should be within the 5 Burroughs not just the jets i don’t care if they share but broke ass NYC didn’t care the they left in the 70’s or 80’s
@@mattyg4186 like I said before who going to pay for that new over price stadium in nyc . I’m not even happy about bills getting a new stadium with no roof cover which is totally dumb but than again the iq level in New York isn’t that high either 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@@bigzclipz5104 MetLife was mostly funded by private or PSL there may be very little payed by the taxpayers, i get your point so they should stay put at MetLife it’s already payed for an only 12 years old , but when the state funds the Bills Stadium giants & jets could argue as well and like argue they were forced to play in NJ because New York wouldn’t help but supported the Bills. I agree that all these sports team owners should fully fund stadiums themselves but no one is enforcing them to.
Remember the first time I been to Metlife and first impression was, Asethetically...Meh. The place has no what I call 'WHOA' Factor. Purely functional. I think the designers attempt to make it easily interchangeable between the Giants and Jets shot themselves in the foot and made the place too boring asethically.
Yeah the original plan was for both teams to get their own separate stadiums. The Jets wanted a modern look with a lot of glass and steel while the Giants wanted to build a more traditional looking, brick built stadium. When it was decided that the teams would share one stadium that led to them compromising and the rather dull exterior of MetLife.
He makes it seem like this is all brand new. The jets and giants have been sharing a stadium in East Rutherford, since 1984, after the giants moved there in 1976
I must say that I've never seen a game at MetLife, but from TV and pictures I don't really see why it "sucks". The design seems like your standard layout for football, and especially wanting to have a large number of seats with good sightlines. I also think it's cool how the stadiums lights and signage were set up to quickly change from Jets to Giants and vice versa so each team does get more of a home stadium feel when they're playing. D-G is entitled to his opinions, but he seems to be obsessed with the idea that football stadiums need to have some sort of quirky design in the seating structure when really the "bowl with upperdeck" is the best design for providing good sightlines for the people actually using the stadium. MetLife may be a little "boring", but you're there to see a football game and if your team is winning, who is going to care that the outside looks like an air conditioner?
It's bad because a stadium built for not one, but two teams in the biggest city in the country should be better than this. The fact it doesn't have a roof is frankly inexplicable to me. It's fine, but you already have teams willing to move on from other stadiums like FirstEnergy in Cleveland simply because it's boring, so clearly just being boring is in and of itself a justification to build a new stadium these days.
@@zeroeffortmemes the reason why it doesnt have a roof is because roofs cost at least half a billion dollars, and a study showed that stadiums with retractable roofs are going to be either open 88% of the time or closed 88% of the time depending on your region. so your paying half a billion to use the roof 12% of the time.its financially possible but not a good business move
@infoguy1978 1. Never said retractable roof, 2. It's shared by TWO TEAMS in NEW YORK CITY. They should've been able to figure it out, other teams in far smaller markets have been able to get roofs.
@@zeroeffortmemes yeah what other markets have figured out is get the public to pay for it. new jersey wont pay for that shit nor should we. thats why they havent figured it out
@@infoguy1978 SoFi stadium (also shared by two teams but with one pulling all the financial weight) was able to put a roof on their stadium with entirely private funds.
I’m so glad you made a video about this. I was a original jets PSL holder and this stadium is worse than the original “giants stadium”. I hope the jets get out of this place sooner rather than later. Also keep up your content. I love how you have dove into this niche topic of stadiums and I love it!’ Keep it up!
That's not happening. The Giants and Jets are co-equal owners of MetLife. It's easy to rip on MetLife Stadium, but it cost over a billion dollars to build just a decade ago (the first stadium to cost over a billion).
MetLife stadium was built to have an advantage over all stadiums in ways no one has ever considered. While most new stadiums were built for the luxury standards - MetLife was built to eliminate most Luxuries in favor of upgrading the full standards of Necessities. 2 Examples: 1. While most new stadiums are built to have a great view of the city, They end up with obstructed view seats of the field. MetLife stadium was built without the view and upgrade their seats to a point where it has the most spacious seats and no obstructed views. ( They had bad seats at first, But were removed ) 2. Most new stadiums with or without domes / retractable roofs end up with less than 200 concessions stands and limited restrooms resulting in long lines in both cases. MetLife owners said NO to any roof and invested in full upgrades of those necessities and is the only stadium to have 800 concession stands and 1st class restrooms behind every seating sector of the building resulting in no waiting in long lines in either case. In the long run - People will see how upgraded Necessities outweighs the Luxuries and everyone will realize why MetLife stadium is the real best stadium in the NFL. Sometimes the old ways are best. Does it really matter if the building doesn't have a flashy design ?
I think the reason MetLife does not have a good view of the city is because of the wind. I went to MetLife for a December game in 2017. Let’s just say it was cold and the wind made it even colder. Imagining there being an opening in the stadium with a view of the city in the cold wind that area gets would not be fun. The bathrooms are alright. The lack of a lime is nice. Biggest issue with MetLife is how bland it is. It really does not feel like a Giants/Jets home game. Might have to do with both teams sucking but still. There are plenty of other Stadiums that are way better than MetLife just saying as a Giants fan.
@@topace1038 Out of all people who knock MetLife Stadium - Not one of them has the honesty to admit how good MetLife stadium actually looks at night - Lighting up in home team colors inside and out. There's nothing bland about that. If you would eat hot foods often - Cold weather wouldn't bother you much. When it comes to those palace dome stadiums, They might be more pleasing to the naked eye & more fun at first, But after a time it's not nearly as enjoyable because they start to feel like oversized arenas more than stadiums. This is just one of the reasons why places like AT&T & Lucas Oil stadium doesn't draw a sell out crowd anymore. It will happen to SOFi, Allegiant Stadium and others sooner or later. Real stadiums are made for Real outdoors.
@@EmmanuelConstant747 Yeah the lighting is cool. Have to admit that. But it only really visible during night games During your average 1 PM or 4:25 PM game you are not really going to see it. Personally I do not mind the colder weather open stadium type of deal. It is the wind though that is the problem. It feels like the wind goes into the area where all the concessions and escalators are which can be pretty unpleasant. I wish they would close that area off more so you can at least duck into the concession area hallways if you need to warm up as opposed to needing to go to the bathrooms in order to escape. Again I don't want my Giants to play in a dome but my God at least have some personality and be built to provide some shelter from the elements for fans who cannot afford a box.
@@topace1038 Personally - I don't think there's anything wrong with the design of MetLife stadium. It was made simple - Yet Practical. Top Level Success, Spacious Comfort and made for great Prime Time viewing. If its good enough to beat out AT&T and SoFi Stadium for the rights to host the World Cup Finals - There must be something to it. Even Lambeau Field has Colder fridget wind discomfort, But no one seems to complain about that.
I love it when stadiums and the like are in the middle of nowhere. It just works as far as getting there, showing up and setting up then having fun and going home
Northern NJ is Giants town. (Note how quickly they sold all their PSLs.) Jets should have built in Queens, but after being put through the ringer over the failed west side of Manhattan stadium, the owner Mr. Johnson was either behind schedule or in a huff he said no more in New York.
thats because johnson is based in NJ he's one of the Johnson and Johnson heirs and the family owns a health network of hospitals throughout Jersey like the old owner Hess who also was based in Jersey owned the Hess oil company till his death they are not even based in my town anymore of woodbridge
Nine of the eleven board members of the port authority live in NJ, which is why most of the money goes to jersey. Big surprise mafia corruption alive and well in the tri state wasteland area.
MetLife is a cold, bland, boring, concrete & metal pit. It lacks character/charm & interesting design features. NFL players named it their least favorite place to play, especially because of its injury-prone artificial surface. The Jets should pack their bags as soon as possible & go back to their roots in Flushing, Queens. In over 35+ years, they have generally suffered in the Meadowlands. The crowd noise for the Jets was never louder than it was when they were at Shea. Find the end of the 1981 home game vs. Miami on TH-cam, and you'll see/hear what I mean.
Thank you. Games are meant to be played in the elements. This guy wants a retractable roof over the whole earth so that no one gets wet or a suntan. Good fricken grief.
I’m with you in liking stadiums built in middle of nowhere. My Lions use play in Pontiac, they could have easily built a new stadium in the parking lot there, unfortunately the incompetent city of Pontiac didn’t see the forest from the trees and the Lions moved back the city of Detroit in 2002 in what is a cluster bleep with Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena all built within walking distances, so parking, logistics are awful going there. I’m surprised the Jets didn’t return to Flushing and build a stadium on site of old Shea Stadium after Mets departed in 2008. Still crazy both New York teams play in New Jersey, I remember being really confused as a kid over that.
What does the future hold for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, home to the UFL's New Jersey Generals and the NFL's New York Giants, and for the NFL's New York Jets and the UFL's New York Hitmen in Manhattan, New York? What developments are expected for these iconic stadiums?
Yea the satudim sucks but metlife is going round and round hosting big concerts. Typically big artist will have shows in Barclays or Madison Square Garden but when those tickets gets sold out then they pop in with metlife.
it looks like a correctional facility from the outside. Sofi Stadium, ATT Stadium, Lucas Oil, Allegiant stadium, or US Bank stadium. ALL way better stadiums.
I am a season ticket holder for the Giants and I no longer enjoy attending games and not because they are losing. My seats are on the upper deck which takes forever to reach. Plus, my row count went down but the stadium is higher so my view is further away. I feel I got robbed paying for the worthless seat license. As for using the bathroom or the snack bar it is impossible. The hallways are packed like sardines. I can go on but when you see what they have built in other cities like LA, Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis etc. this is an embarrassment. NYC region has the worst stadium in the US if not the world. What I would do is shut the stadium down for two years and fully modernize with a retractable roof.
Still a mystery why they didn’t build a covered stadium. superbowls , college football championship and final four the biggest sporting attraction would be a mainstay and on rotation being in the country’s largest market. Such a waste
If they had still built it in E Rutherford, you weren't going to get any of those events more than once because of the terrible location. Read any of these comments on how much hell it is to drive there. Heck, read up on how much of a disaster it was to leave that one Super Bowl they got because the trains stopped running shortly after the game ended! (Taylor Swift actually got smart and paid the transit authority herself to keep the trains running an hour later for her concert) It's very much like JerryWorld, the out-of-town fans and media hate the location and required commute to there. I remember when the Final Four came to Arlington and at least one sportswriter said on Twitter "This event should not be at a place you can't walk to from your hotel." I'd actually be surprised if another Super Bowl comes back to DFW any time soon, just like with NYC.
They did get One Super Bowl and my understanding is the NFL was not pleased because it wasn't a big media event in NYC. In fact, it is unlikely they will have one there again. Weather and a domed stadium aside. I have been in several cities in the week leading up to the Super Bowl and it is 24/7, all over that metro area. In New York you must compete with all the other recreation entertainment events. Ah, The Big Apple.
Neither the Jets nor the Giants wanted to pay for a retractable roof because they see the weather as a home-field advantage. NJ did not want to divert taxpayer funds even though it very well might have paid for itself in ticket fees.
They should have built a roof over it (either retractable or not) like all the new stadiums these days!… In the very least, the seats should have a roof over them!
One good thing about MetLife Stadium: The New York Jets fan experience. The team has added fireworks for every game every time the AC/DC singer says the word THUNDER, the night games also have the lasers and LED bracelets. The Jets even plan on using fireworks for beautiful girls moments.
It's corporate personified. It was built to be neutral and satisfy as many types of performances and guests as possible. For passionate football fans, there is no passion to pull from it (and that outdoor lighting that changes to any color doesn't solve it). Your point that it is a modern day cookie cutter stadium is on point. Jack of all trades, master of none.
3:51 the Giants and the Jets on average pull in great attendance numbers no matter how bad they are. The camo seats are for obvious reasons... it's a shared stadium, they cant go with Giant's blue or Jets Green.
There’s a good and bad to sharing. The good is both teams share the cost of stadium and the bad is you have to compensate design concepts for two teams.
I don't see the problem with the upper deck wrapping around the whole stadium. You go there to watch the game not get views of the city or something else. The issues with the stadium in my opinion are location and no covered seating.
Few people actually realize MetLlife Stadium design is a cross between Giants stadium and the West Side Stadium - Yet it has the style and character of an advanced New York City office building. 0:55
@@frogger1952 You're entitled to your opinion, But the fact remains most Dome stadiums never work well in the long run. Lambeau Field design is no better than MetLife stadium - Yet it works for Packer fans, And not just because of its rich history, Fans love the feel of that place. MetLife stadium sells out more often than most NFL stadiums, Has top level tailgating and lights up in beautiful home team colors at night. Not exactly a recipe for a boring stadium. The Success outweighs all arguments of the design. Anybody think they can argue with that ?
@@EmmanuelConstant747 You're saying domed stadiums don't work out in the long run? You mean like in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Minnesota, Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. Or in baseball; Houston, Arlington, Toronto, Milwaukee, and Arizona. These stadiums are essential in areas with extreme weather.
@@frogger1952 There is more to a stadium than wether or not it has a dome to protect from harsh weather conditions. Granted - Retractable roof stadiums might make sense for baseball, But football is alot like soccer. It's made to be played in outdoors no matter what the weather conditions are like. The elements add to the challenge. Teams that win in cold weather are usually the teams that win the most championships. How often do dome stadium teams win Super Bowls ? Compare MetLife stadium with AT&T stadium. Regardless of Jerry World having a sexier look - MetLife stadium is proven to be more successful hosting the Super bowl, Wrestlemania, International Soccer and Concerts. With so much tax dollars overpaid to AT&T - MetLife actually has more managable Traffic, Parking and better Public Transportations. Cowboy fans have to suffer in these things as a result of tax dollars spent in the wrong places, The result - Despite the fact the Cowboys have won games, They just don't draw a good crowd anymore while MetLife Stadium is consistantly getting the full crowds.
Red bull arena is fine imo. I get on the NJT line and I get brought basically right to the stadium, it's a shame it's an MLS team though. I only every attend national team or pre season games from the big European teams
Bills fan here. I've been to this stadium about five times to support Buffalo against the Jets. The stadium is fine, it's just...meh. But the seats are comfortable, there's good leg room, and the food options are decent. It's just super bland, and now that stadiums feel like arms races, this one might be too blah to hang in there for very long.
The Giants and Jets both paid for the stadium. The seats were purposly picked not to be the colors of either team. The Jets played in Giants Stadium all those years which had a Giants feel and the seats were the Giants colors.
Metlife Stadium is the first sports and entertainment complex in the USA. The American Dream Mall across the street is a clone of Mall of America with an indoor Nickelodeon Theme Park, DreamWorks Waterpark, Ski Slope, and much more entertainment and shopping. Honestly, this is one of the best arrangements in all of sports in the country. You could easily package a vacation with NYG/NYJ game with the American Dream Mall. A genius setup here.
The jets should move to citi field just like they had shea stadium in the old days at least theyll be in queens and in new york city where they belong and have their own practice facility somewhere on long island preferably eisenhower park or at least return to hofstra university my dad used to watch them practice all the time when he was a student there from 1985-1988
I never thought about it but the short span when the Giants had a stadium to themselves was the only time either team did not share a field. The Giants shared with the baseball Giants and then the Yanks. The Jets shared with the Mets.
3:00 No more Super Bowls, in part because it wasn't even that big an event in the New York area. I have been in other cities where the Super Bowl was coming and it was all they could talk about. Too much competition for that recreational dollar ... in The Big Apple, I guess.
Unlikely to happen, but the jets can team up with NYCFC and build a stadium for both. MLS schedule doesn’t conflict with NFL anyway. They would just build a bigger stadium on the queens site.
I dont understand the big fuss with these newly built stadiums. They are a big improvement compared to the 70s built multipurpose stadiums in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, st Louis , seattle etc.
It doesn’t suck. The view is really good. Just the turf just sucks. The complete inclosed is better. Holds more people and it’s definitely loud. Trust me it’s built very well. They asked season ticket holders if they wanted a roof and majority said NO. And owners said no. And the sunny side of the stadium is brutal
I miss the old stadium. I'm a Giaants fan from MA, we would head that way early, put our giants flag up, set up the NFL films music, set up the old tv to play classic giants games, and tailgate with our neighbors all day when we weren't actively in the stadium. I've been to Metlife once, but that magic just seemed to be gone.
The Jets built a huge modern training facility and headquarters on the former Exxon Headquarters in Florham Park. They’re not going to go back and forth from there to Queens. And they’re not going to build a facility in Long Island, they moved to Jersey when Woody bought the team because the Johnson family is from New Jersey. Half the hospitals in the State are literally named after his Grandfather. The management, players all live in Jersey. Trust me, none of them want to move to Queens or Long Island.
The Giants wanted natural airflow over the field, that is why the sides look that way, they are vents. This is also why there is no dome. Jets were fine with having a dome, not Giants.
The food sucks, the seats suck and cutting off seats to open things up will only give you a view the overpriced mall next door to it. The only good thing about Metlife is that they trains going to and from the stadium run somewhat regularly. Outside of this, they need a do over on this project.
I love MetLife. Perfectly symmetrical (I hate non symmetrical stadiums), big screens, amazing sight lines, great sound for concerts, out in the elements for a sport that should be played in the elements, tough and industrial looking with incredible facilities for suites, clubs and food options.
local here. 3 things happened 1: the jets tried to get a stadium and failed. they wanted modern and the giants wanted the NFL version of Camden Yards. They Settled for very generic stuff due to differences 2: Everyone lied. The nets said they wanted to create a new arena and renovate the area. The American Dream was supposed to be a shopping hub that opened up in 2010 with the stadium. They also were supposed to build a stadium for minor league baseball. Look up "bergen cliff hawks stadium" 3: the roof was supposedly not gonna be retractable due to 2 airports in the 15 mile radius "teterboro and Newark Liberty" so if i remember correctly the season ticket holders said they wanted the open air advantage and they weren't looking at the bigger picture due to them not getting stadium revenues outside of football games and parking.
So they tried to please everybody and as a result pleased no one. From what I hear, it's very difficult getting around inside and of course the traffic to and from is a nightmare. For people taking the train from LI, that's just as bad as you have to change at Secaucus, then Penn Station, and possibly again at Jamaica. Taking Metro North is even worse. Add to that the stadium design is BORING.
The Giants and Jets were negotiating at the same time. I never took it seriously that they were not going to share a stadium. They get 17 home games each year split between two teams. Since they own the stadium together they also profit from the other events there.
NFL Fans are so soy. It would be great to have more colder weather superbowls. I'm not saying have them in Green Bay because I get ppl just wanna party and get waisted in a "destination city". But just having warm weather doesn't guarantee a great game. NFL fans need to realize that. It would be good for the sport to move it around more. If the game there was played in bad weather, regardless of the score, years after the fact it would be remembered as one of, if not the most iconic SBs of all time. People don't remember games for being flawless - they remember them for how well one team outplayed the other and came out on top. That is why bad weather games are so famous. Mark my words: when DC gets a new stadium, they will get a SB. You heard it here first.
As a New Yorker... I hate Metlife Stadium. For it's location, being outside of NYC, shitty traffic and that it's not a dome. You'd think New York by it's name alone, would be state-of-the-art, grandiose and majestic. For reference I didn't like Giants Stadium either. It was an old relic, similar to Shea Stadium. The only older Stadium worth saving was Old Yankee Stadium. I really don't like the new one in comparison. Not a fan friendly venue. And Madison Square Garden isn't fan friendly either. But with that renovation, and continuous renovations still occurring I don't see a change. That Jets idea to Queens, probably will not happen until 2035 and I mean actually becoming a reality. The Queens project is still only for NYCFC and there's just no room to put it unless they relocate some teams for sometime, while a new facility can be done.
Metlife stadium seems fine to me. It's important to remember that this is an opinion video. Both teams appear to be filling the stadium on Sundays so it can't be that ungodly awful or intolerable. As for the architecture itself, it looks fine to me. The comment about not seeing what is outside of the stadium while sitting inside the stadium makes little sense to me because...and do feel free to call me crazy...but I thought the idea was to observe what is going on INSIDE the stadium, which is why fans buy their tickets in the first place. Every stadium location is not always scenic enough to justify a "view" of its surroundings. In some cities it works like Pittsburgh, San Francisco, etc but the focus should be on the fan experience inside of the stadium while the event is taking place. ...not to mention the creator of this video is bit too socially optimistic about the outside surroundings of a given stadium, in an era of which 1/3rd or more of the attending a fans are looking at their cell phones intermittently....attention spans are clearly not what they once were, having a "view" does not solve that issue in today's world.
No view of the outside ? I thought the whole idea was to view what was going on inside. It holds a lot of people because NYC has a lot of people. Its fine, it works.
I've never figured out why there's not more coverage for fans when this much is spent on a stadium... not a full retractable roof but some sort of roof over the stands...
It is simply ridiculous that the biggest metropolis in the US only has 2 big stadiums (MLB) and doesn't have a proper football stadium, when you consider that London has 7 stadiums over 40.000 capacity !! And yes all of then inside the city limits!!!
I obviously have no insight to the internal workings of the jets franchise, but it’s a tragedy that they did not get a stadium next to Citi field over the MLS team. Something tells me they did not even try because It’s clear too much money was put into this mistake to give up so soon. They’re a jersey team now, aside from money, I’d imagine that commuting from Jersey to Queens for game days is not what anyone from the franchise wants. It’s a shame that a very large portion of the fanbase completely disregards going to home games because of the insane commitment to get there (and back) and when you do it’s a bad stadium with no life surrounding it, no bars, no restaurants, no nightlife. It would be a dream come true if they came home.
The Johnson family lives in NJ. No way are they moving their team to Queens even though that's where the Jets belong and should never have left. They tried to get a stadium built over the LIRR storage facility on the west side of Manhattan, but the city politicians (notably the corrupt Sheldon Silver) killed it.
@@robertm3951Yes, he also had no loyalty to LI Jets fans. Not only did he move them 2.5 hours away, but housed them in the stadium of their arch rivals. Hired one bad GM and coach after another. A friend of mine ran into former Jets President Jim Kensil on the LIRR not long after the Jets had moved to NJ. He asked him if there was any chance the Jets would move back to NY. Kensil told him, in no uncertain terms, "when will Long Island fans realize we don't give a sh*t about them". Once I heard that story, from that point on I never felt the same way about the Jets.
Even if it were built in 1999, it should still be in excellent condition! Why are these new stadiums all worn out in 20 years? Fenway Park is 112 years old, and the Red Sox think it should last until 2061.
Went to a game there and it doesn’t feel like a home stadium for anyone because they try to keep it as neutral as possible. The concourse layout is also terrible
FACTS THAT CEMENTS ALL ARGUMENTS: If every NFL stadium had a retractable roof or stylish dome - There would be no point in any NFL stadium to have natural grass fields. That would take away a big chunk of what most fans and players have come to love over the years. Even Worse - It would make NFL stadiums look like a big joke in comparison to most Soccer and Baseball Stadiums. They would all look like oversized fancy arenas. That alone proves domes of any kind are a big minus in the NFL. History is full of examples that proves dome stadiums don't pan out well in the long run regardless of how great the bulding design is. If Giants and Jets fans are willing to spend big money to go to the games every year to a point where it sells out regularly - That alone proves they are not ashamed of what they have in MetLife Stadium. The best stadiums in any league are the ones that works for their fans in every way - Not just stylish buildings. MetLife Stadium is among them. Lambeau Field is among them. Arrowhead Stadium (GEHA Field) is among them. These are some of the real best stadiums in the NFL. Get my point ?
Domes of any kind are a big minus in the NFL. Are you sure about that? It does not seem to have been an issue in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Minnesota, Dallas, Houston, and Arizona. As far as natural grass is concerned, are fans really that focused on the playing surface or are they focused more on what's going on in the game itself? Therefore no, I don't get your point and here's why... You're making generalized claims but I'm not seeing any data to support those claims. If you can produce data as evidence then I can possibly get your point but for now what I'm seeing is just an opinion that is not persuading me to agree....yet.
@@moonytheloony6516 It is a proven fact that more than 80% of sports fans through out the world prefer open air stadiums over dome stadiums. If it weren't for the fact that team owners spent more tax dollars on the domes - These stadiums would be in a position to provide better parking, traffic conditions & public transportation for their fans. This is why dome stadiums have the worst parking and traffic in the NFL. MetLife Stadiums traffic has greatly improved in recent years and provides the best public transportation and parking in the NFL. How many dome stadiums have it better ? When it comes to spending tax dollars for better Traffic, Parking & Public Transportations vs Domes - You cannot have one without sacrificing the other. This is why Domes are a big minus.
@@EmmanuelConstant747 Do they even call them "domed" stadiums anymore? I think the Superdome in New Orleans is the only domed stadium in the NFL by definition, but I digress. You've asserted that 80% of sports fans, worldwide, prefer an open air stadium and that the cost of domes or retractable roofs, inhibits the proper engineering and construction of infrastructure to allow easy access to and from those stadiums, hence dome stadiums have the worst parking and traffic in the NFL, therefore a big minus. Though I am very confident, based on decades of testimony that Chicago Bears fans would severely beg to differ with you; as their open-air stadium, Soldier Field, is quite possibly the worst traffic and parking experience in the entire NFL, and has been for a very, very long time. Please provide the information regarding the study(s), and other source materials you used to access this information so that I can review it as well, as I find the subject of stadiums, along with your presentation to be very interesting. I'm not sure a dome or roof is a big minus as a rule. Some areas of the United States, as you are likely aware, require a dome or at least a retractable roof for NFL football such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Houston, due to climate. The NFL will be seeing at least two new stadiums under construction shortly, the first is in Orchard Park for the Bills, an open-air design, and Nashville for the Titans, a fixed-roof design. Meanwhile the Jacksonville Jaguars are at least planning an ambitious redesign of their current stadium, which will include some kind of translucent roof. The Chicago Bears plan on building a fixed-roof stadium, likely in Arlington Heights, so the trend favors the roofs and the selling point is hosting year-round events. So far we have a fixed-roof or retractable roof design in Minneapolis, Detroit, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Houston, Arlington (TX), Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Glendale (AZ) with Nashville joining that growing list. And what do we call Hard Rock Stadium in Miami? Is it a hybrid? It's mostly roofed but not completely...boggles the mind.
If you're inside watching the game, why do you need a sightline out of the stadium into suburban new jersey? Why is $1.6bn too much for a multi use 90k seat stadium in a union labour state?
As a Giants fan it really does suck because it has no character. MetLife is a pain to get to, pain to get out of, and it really has nothing that makes it stand out as being the home of the New York Giants or New York Jets. Take away the easily replaceable decorations and midfield/end zones and the place just is bland and grey.
New York got the Super Bowl because of what happened to the city on Sept. 11, 2001. There was talk of having the Super Bowl there ever since that event... and NY did host the game eventually.
I don't know any fan (Jets fan or Giants fan) that likes that stadium. I really wish the Jets would opt out in 2025. And if they're not going to opt out, at minimum add a roof.
As a Giants fan who has been to this stadium many of times over the years and has even gotten a stadium tour of MetLife, it’s a good stadium. Only issue I have with it is that parking is a nightmare.
@@nickmiller2065 They told us the parking permits would be temporary until the old stadium was torn down but it is basically the same. Parking was fine before they started building the new stadium.
There is a proposal near Citi Field in Queens but they co-own the stadium. The lease they pay to NJ does not amount to much. NJ owns the parking and the surroundings.
In the last 23 Super Bowls, only 3 have been won by teams who play in domed stadiums. Unless the stadium is sitting in a desert or in an area with EXTREME weather (Minneapolis, Detroit), it's foolish to put a dome on it. Also, I don't get your dislike for Metlife. As a fan, here's what matters: *Do all seats have good line of site? *Can you see a large video scoreboard from all views? *Do you have an enclosed club level? *Do you have good concession options? *Do you have a large area for tailgating? Metlife scores well in all of those areas. My only critique would be that it doesn't have a natural grass surface for football.
Idk it’s not Sofi or Us bank, but I think it looks good. Kind of looks like a soccer stadium in Europe or South America. Solid, modern stadium without anything memorable
the bowl to MetLife is AMAZING! people don't go there for the view and suggesting part of the upper deck be removed so people can pay $150 to sit on there ass and stare out into the distance PISSES ME OFF! what a ridiculous idea! It’s a country club compared to FedEx, as a Redskins fan I’d take MetLife anyday
MetLife will never get the Super Bowl again but it is getting the World Cup finals now that’s way bigger than the Super Bowl.
They dodged a bullet with that Super Bowl!! There was a blizzard the next morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The farmer's almanac had predicted a significant weather event in the area from that Friday to the Tuesday after 😂
But snowy games are the best. That would’ve been fun.
Like Joe Montana sports talk football the best
Idiots.
Nah the isles fans deserve to be stuck in that traffic. And who cares about the Jets anyway lol

His obsession with every stadium needing a roof is getting to be eye rolling, just in my view. I almost want to dare him to make a video saying why a roof needs to be put on Lambeau Field just to have Packers fans go ape in the comments.
I know right main reason why I had to stop watching like dude stfu football is supposed to be playing outdoors this roof fetish is getting out of hand
The Packers almost went with an inflatable roof in the 80s.
Football is meant to be played outdoors. It’s part of the experience. The elements being involved and the unpredictability makes it special.
I agree
A stupid take
What’s so stupid about it?
The 2026 World Cup Final is being hosted there. (:
AT&T stadium is an idealized re-creation of Texas Stadium, but it works!
Here after the announcement that the 2026 world cup final will be in this stadium! 😅
Me too
The NFL basically owed the Giants and the Jets for saving the league when they agreed to revenue-sharing decades of go. This is why the league gave them the Superbowl in the open-air stadium.

I don’t understand the issue with wraparound upper deck. Why is it bad? What do I care I don’t want to see outside I want see the field.

The jets and giants have been sharing a stadium in East Rutherford, since 1984, after the giants moved there in 1976
No you assume he makes it all brand new. You are probably a hoot at parties

MetLife stadium was built to have an advantage over all stadiums in ways no one has ever considered. While most new stadiums were built for the luxury standards - MetLife was built to eliminate most Luxuries in favor of upgrading the full standards of Necessities. 2 Examples:
1. While most new stadiums are built to have a great view of the city, They end up with obstructed view seats of the field. MetLife stadium was built without the view and upgrade their seats to a point where it has the most spacious seats and no obstructed views. ( They had bad seats at first, But were removed )
Better than a dome.
What's your fascination with domed stadiums and roofs in general? Enclosed stadiums truly suck!
It’s in the middle of nowhere with no public transportation which cause a large traffic jam
There’s still a traffic jam
There is a train and plenty of buses.
Week later after the Super Bowl we had a blizzard just got lucky
Actually the blizzard came the day after the Seahawks Super Bowl win at MetLife.
Especially when you are talking not 1 but 2 NFL teams picking up the freight there.
No secret the cost was way way more they didn't wanna pay
Woody ain't moving his baby into Queens.
I don't see the problem with the upper deck wrapping around the whole stadium. You go there to watch the game not get views of the city or something else. The issues with the stadium in my opinion are location and no covered seating.

The stadium only sucks because teams called the "NEW YORK" Giants and Jets are playing in a stadium in NEW JERSEY
While you're up here, you should do Red Bull Arena in Harrison.
I think the point was that the seats are slightly different colors so it is not so easy on camera to see empty seats.
I never noticed that before.
American dream mall misses payments regularly and it isnt even in the top 5 of popular malls in nj
I love that place! I went to lots of Jet games there, and I also saw the Taylor Swift concert there!
You mean knuckles from sonic? Lol
Come on Ginger. Not this again. Its a good design. Very functional and compact.
I dont understand the big fuss with these newly built stadiums. They are a big improvement compared to the 70s built multipurpose stadiums in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, st Louis , seattle etc.
I can’t believe this dump got picked to host the WC final
I reallly wish it was ATT Stadium for the Final.
*The Best
It's New York. 75% of the budget went into political pockets (unions and boards), and what was left over was just enough to scrape together something.
GIants Stadium in the early years was always rated towards the top of all Stadiums. I kind of like the Giants Stadium feel to MetLife.
2026 WORLD CUP FINAL, BILLIONS OF EYES WILL BE ON METLIFE STADIUM
Yawn. They could hold the final in my back yard and I wouldn't watch it.
At least they repainted the American Dream Mall.
It was an eyesore during the Superbowl.
Perfectly symmetrical (I hate non symmetrical stadiums), big screens, amazing sight lines, great sound for concerts, out in the elements for a sport that should be played in the elements, tough and industrial looking with incredible facilities for suites, clubs and food options.
local here. 3 things happened
1: the jets tried to get a stadium and failed. they wanted modern and the giants wanted the NFL version of Camden Yards. They Settled for very generic stuff due to differences
2: Everyone lied. The nets said they wanted to create a new arena and renovate the area. The American Dream was supposed to be a shopping hub that opened up in 2010 with the stadium. They also were supposed to build a stadium for minor league baseball. Look up "bergen cliff hawks stadium"
3: the roof was supposedly not gonna be retractable due to 2 airports in the 15 mile radius "teterboro and Newark Liberty" so if i remember correctly the season ticket holders said they wanted the open air advantage and they weren't looking at the bigger picture due to them not getting stadium revenues outside of football games and parking.
@@frogger1952boring is an understatement. ... Looks like a combination of an industrial plant and a bad corporate office... But somehow worse.
"You don't want to base your stadium design off your old stadium." Ummm AT&T stadium design was based on Texas stadium.
Spend the money to go and experience it
That's when you realize "Wow, I got ripped"
I Hear As a Eagles Fan That This Stadium is Not Very Well Designed!
I’m from Jersey, Met Life Stadium is not in the middle of nowhere
@@frogger1952 Leon Hess also lived in NJ.
It makes my blood boil that this dumpster stadium is projected to host the World Cup Final in 2026
Depressed ginger can you cover Foxborough Stadium?
Chargers should go back to San Diego
Makes no sense why they didn’t build it with a retractable roof considering the crappy weather
I attended a game at the old stadium about 30 years ago. I thought it was fine.

FACTS THAT CEMENTS ALL ARGUMENTS:
If every NFL stadium had a retractable roof or stylish dome - There would be no point in any NFL stadium to have natural grass fields.
When it comes to spending tax dollars for better Traffic, Parking & Public Transportations vs Domes -
You cannot have one without sacrificing the other. This is why Domes are a big minus.
@@EmmanuelConstant747
Do they even call them "domed" stadiums anymore?
So far we have a fixed-roof or retractable roof design in Minneapolis, Detroit, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Houston, Arlington (TX),
Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Glendale (AZ) with Nashville joining that growing list.
And what do we call Hard Rock Stadium in Miami? Is it a hybrid? It's mostly roofed but not completely...boggles the mind.
There is no reason that a stadium in the Garden State can't have real grass.
Ginger is from and lives in Wisconsin i from Texas his accent is the giveaway lol.
If stadiums were tv series, The Superdome is Dr. Who, MetLife Stadium is the Big Bang Theory.
It’s a Billion Dollar Giant Stadium, which means it will go out of date faster than most NFL stadiums
Plus the Giants will never be a dome team
If you're inside watching the game, why do you need a sightline out of the stadium into suburban new jersey? Why is $1.6bn too much for a multi use 90k seat stadium in a union labour state?
It is right near the NYC skyline.
I still don't understand why it "sucks"
As a Giants fan it really does suck because it has no character. MetLife is a pain to get to, pain to get out of, and it really has nothing that makes it stand out as being the home of the New York Giants or New York Jets. Take away the easily replaceable decorations and midfield/end zones and the place just is bland and grey.
Every new stadium gets a superbowl pretty much. Metlife as a cold weather stadium got it mostly because the Maras are OG owners.
Sold out every week. What problem?
New York got the Super Bowl because of what happened to the city on Sept. 11, 2001. There was talk of having the Super Bowl there ever since that event... and NY did host the game eventually.
Politicians, of course...
The Jets do not want a roof.
The would rather have a home-field advantage.
@@nickmiller2065 They told us the parking permits would be temporary until the old stadium was torn down but it is basically the same.
Parking was fine before they started building the new stadium.
Where would the Jets play after 2025 if they don't renew the lease
There is a proposal near Citi Field in Queens but they co-own the stadium.
The lease they pay to NJ does not amount to much.
NJ owns the parking and the surroundings.
BUY NEW TURF PLEASE!!!
As a fan, here's what matters:
*Do all seats have good line of site?
*Can you see a large video scoreboard from all views?
*Do you have an enclosed club level?
*Do you have good concession options?
*Do you have a large area for tailgating?
Metlife scores well in all of those areas. My only critique would be that it doesn't have a natural grass surface for football.
It's OK in2026 real football will be played on real grass in this stadium
Idk it’s not Sofi or Us bank, but I think it looks good. Kind of looks like a soccer stadium in Europe or South America. Solid, modern stadium without anything memorable
the bowl to MetLife is AMAZING! people don't go there for the view and suggesting part of the upper deck be removed so people can pay $150 to sit on there ass and stare out into the distance PISSES ME OFF! what a ridiculous idea! It's hosting a World Cup final and FIFA has way higher standards that the NFL so it's already pretty amazing and we all know fancy upgrades are coming for the WC. 👍
