Honestly, it's small towns like this one what attracts me more about Japan. Sure, visiting Tokyo might be fun but this, this is exactly the place I dream of being.
@@agentepolaris4914 I think what this interaction points to is a lot of Japanese city's ability to maintain a "small town" feel in a city with nearly 175k people, which is awesome. My guess is that, as an American, our city's dense, car centric infrastructure makes the city itself feel unwelcoming. Certainly some Japanese city's are like this too, but to a lesser degree I think. Outside western city's, it's easier to exist as a pedestrian. You can walk places, there are numerous third places, infrastructure is well built keeps the individual experience in mind. Things like that can work to make a big city feel small, welcoming, and accessible.
Japan's architecture is so satisfying to watch, almost all buildings are distinct and I love their family cars parked outside and how each building is connected to the pavement and street flawlessly.
I completely agree! Japan's architecture is so unique and beautiful. It's always a pleasure to see how they incorporate their culture into their buildings.

Timeless one of the most modern counties, if not the most modern of all, and the same time the appreciation of traditions are being preserved and celebrated. Japan has a vision of being fast and the same time allows to be slow. I just travelled for a month the smaller towns and off the beaten path regions to experience Japan away from the big neon signs. For me it was calming me down, the respectfulness, history no religious issues like in the west, amazing food, rides along the ocean and more. I am retired now, worked in many Asian countries, but Japan is the place to be for me. In 2025 I be back, renting an apartment and spend six months there.
That’s in good part because 1/ Kamakura is a historical town, very touristy, so they tend to keep it clean 2/ Everyone cleans in front of their houses 3/ Neighborhood associations (not mandatory, but strongly encouraged if you live in a house) do frequent cleanings, often the elderly who also socialize this way 4/ Littering is really frown upon. Kids do beach cleaning sessions at school, etc.
I couldn't help by notice, it's not just the roads. But even the building fronts, the windows, the lamp posts and sign posts... At 04:00 , the two vending machines on the right have ZERO rust and no signs of wear and tear... At 04:37, the tiled front has ZERO chips/cracks, but it's very rare where I am from to see tiled walls that are so pristine! This isn't just clean, this is FAIRYLAND levels of perfect!
The Alleyways of Japan is the main reason why i want to go there. so peaceful 🥹 actually it sounded like a lullaby to my ears and make me feel sleepy. i will not regret to walk in this kind of places even if it so long.
What attracts me about Japan is not the people in particular, but rather the architecture, the culture of being sacred with nature and a general sense of peace. I feel like all the rules in Japan come from an indirect or subconscious attempt to be more evolved spiritually which in modern times translates to being the perfect citizen.
I miss Japan! There is a kind of vibe that exists when walking these little streets found only in Japan. I want to call it serenity but that might be too simplistic a description. Thank you Penguin Walk for these videos you produce. They make me feel like I'm the one who is walking these streets.
You can try this in indonesia or thailand, you can have same vibe like when you doing walking tour in a narrow residential alley at japan, but it's like low budget version
Instead of commenting "why is Japan so beautiful and well maintained while my country is not?", I will comment that I will take steps to make my own country like that.
I've been all over Japan, but visiting Kamakura and Yokosuka has been the highlight of my Japan travels. The contrast of a very traditional Japanese town with dozens of temples compared to a military port with American soldiers and businesses catering to them was mind-blowing. And they're just separated by a quick 30 minute train ride. Only in Japan!
It really is. I love to travel and I’ve been to a lot of beautiful and awesome places. I’ve traveled on planes, trains, automobiles and cruise ships! Lol All worth it. I hope you get to travel and see as much as of the world as possible. Even when I go to a city nearby me, it feels like a new and I find new restaurants to try new food I haven’t tried before.. unless it’s raw and slimy! Lol
I really, really would love to visit Japan but i have a lung disease and not allowed to flight 😔 so i watch this videos to enjoy it at least a little bit😪
I Remember back in 87 being at a totally amazing shrine/temple right next to some train rails. There were Buddha's flip flops hanging from a wall, huuuge handmade from some sort of grass. You know what I'm talking about?
I like how the video ended with a peaceful beauty of the late sunset on a beach with the rhythmic melody of the ocean.. This scene is exactly how I imagine ending my travels in Japan.
Very nice video, this is one of the things that fascinates me about Japan. The way the towns and Citys are laid out, the infrastructure is quite different than it is here in the states. We don't have any infrastructure for walking or biking, so it's refreshing to see how Japan dose this.
