I'm not really into prog rock or at least I don't know alot about it, but I think the inherent value of complexity is possibly this: if you where stuck on an island for a month would you rather only be able to listen to Beethoven's 5th or Twinkle twinkle as your sole source of media? I would argue that Beethoven would provide more entertainment over that month because you notice new things about it every time you listen and could engage with it more in a variety of ways. That's why graphic novels with lots of details and weird things hidden in the background are so fun to reread.

But needless complexity doesnt have the depth of beethoven is the problem

Which means it's the absolute most irrelevant field in 2022, does it not?
If you're over 30, you remember when access to things were a huge deal to the point of it having a huge effect on how much you liked something.
When we can get anything with a click, fuck, not even that, a slide and a tap on a screen from ANYWHERE; Why do we need the island comparasion?
And if we scratch the surface a little; you wouldn't even need to bring Twinkle Twinkle Little Star because every note is forever going to be with you.

I'm from Belgium and every summer I go abroad for a full month, and part of what I look forward to coming back to (because I don't have an internet connection while on holiday) is coming back home and watching the accumulated list of videos that I haven't watched while abroad, mainly uploaded by my favourite creators such as yourself (however cringy that may seem to say and to hear).
As a result, watching the video about the future of your channel, in which you talk about the issues you face regarding anxiety and confidence on a daily basis, back to back with this video in which you react to a number of spiteful comments with such composure and insight, is truly inspiring in my opinion. I'm not sure I'd be able to respond with such detachment and intelligence. Keep up the good work, Finn, and know that such an exemplary approach doesn't go unnoticed. You truly are a role model for an angry 26 year-old such as myself, who would probably make tearing detractors apart a personal mission in such circumstances. Hipster black metal is one of the most unintentionally funny channels on youtube. Like I check up on that dude every couple of months just to see if he keeps up with it. I remember once he made a whole video because anthony fantano commented on one of his videos with like a *groan* and because he said something in a video that might have been about him. He is genuinely somewhat unhinged and seems to just spew thoughts into the video regardless of if it makes sense. However he seemed to have been inactive for a few months last time I check so that's good atleast.

The positive takeaway from being hated on-to the point where others make concerted efforts to exhibit their disapproval- is that you've made such an impact on their lives, that they cannot separate themselves and their work from yours.
You have taken such a prominent place in their minds that the haters cannot rest until they have expunged the fires that they alone have set in their minds; that they cannot rest until they are satisfied with whatever measure of retribution that they see fit.

But, you presented them very well so in the end of the day even though i don't agree on something you said i always find your video not only informative but also entertaining. The fact that i subs to your 2nd channel is how much i love the content that you made. Thumbs up and keep it up, sir!

I always _HATED_ when bands gave speeches and got preachy about religion, or being overly positive lol. It was especially weird when a band did it while on tour with someone like Whitechapel lol.

I think it's very hard to assign value to something as emotional as music. You may value some kind of music very highly that others don't care about. I guess the "inherent" value of Beethoven's music is its staying power and the fact that Beethoven and all the other classical composers like Mozart, Bach, etc. shaped the way we understand and listen to music today.

Finn, curious to know what you honestly think of the rock band The Toadies? Mind you, they are one of my all time favorite bands and if you criticize, that's totally fine. I've seen them live 8 times and will be seeing them again later this year. This band was popular in the mid-90's and Possum Kingdom was a big radio hit. However, the awesome thing about the Toadies is they literally do not fit into any particular rock genre and people have tried to put them into a category and failed. Every album progressives their music forward in some new way, and Rubberneck is raw. Thoughts?

What a joke. He's far from it.
People like what they like and don't like what they don't like. Music is art and art is subjective.
Because of this, and because Finn's business background, he instead relies on the number Spotify listeners/streams, TH-cam views/likes/subscribers, Twitch, Tik Tok, Chart positions, etc. because it's the part of music that involves cold, hard facts.
This still fails to be philosophically valid, however, because having an argument of "more popular = better" is the logical fallacy of appeal to number or appeal the masses.
Just because something is popular, doesn't automatically mean it's good. Good music is what each of us thinks is good music. After all, who chooses to listen to "bad music", whatever that is?

On the whole twinkle twinkle Little Star versus Beethoven's 5th debate, I just have one question... Which song does a new pianist learn first? The first song they ever learned is going to be something along the lines of twinkle twinkle Little star, not Beethoven's 5th. To me, that makes it inherently more valuable. The first song you learn has a lot of times more valuable than the most complicated song you can ever learn, because every journey needs a beginning.
