There was an open casting call for this video in March 2004 in Iowa. I would have gone (I lived close enough), but I was cast in the college musical “Once Upon a Mattress” and had 2 shows that day. No regrets, the musical was fun to do and a lot of them look really cold, so it’s all good.

Warrant wrote "Cherry Pie" in just a few hours because the label wanted them to write "a hit" for the album. Whether or not they "had" to do it is an open question, but it is possible their album could've gotten shelved if the label didn't like it.
I actually like the song, as well as a bunch of other Warrant songs, but I do agree that video is downright awful. It's too bad Warrant didn't have success after this album, because Jani Lane was a phenomenal songwriter and had a great voice right up until the end. RIP Jani Lane who would've been 58 years old today.

I'm not a hair metal fan but I find that era fascinating, so I've checked out a lot of interviews and all that. One thing I always noticed was the amount of praise everybody gave Jani Lane for his skill as a musician, singer, and songwriter. It seemed like he actually cared deeply about artistry and his heart just couldn't take becoming a joke like this.

Danzig came into a record store in Phoenix, AZ years ago and flipped shit yelling at the store clerk because they had bootleg Misfits 7"s in the used vinyl section. They were Czech Republic made knockoffs that had probably been sitting there gathering dust since before that clerk even worked there. That's some record store clerk lore that has been going around for years. Coincidentally this happened around the time when Danzig got punched out, in that infamous clip that everyone has seen. The moral of the story: yelling at retail workers is bad karma.

I think Slipknot did really fucking good job during the Vol. 3 era, I love all the videos. As you said, Duality captured the band's relationship with their fans. Before I Forget was like watching a rehearsal, taking away the masks and close ups of them playing were cool (I can vividly remember the shot of Joey stomping on the pedals). And then it was the Vermilion, I think it is a great piece of cinematography. The women with super animated and jerky movements with world around her going super fast just sets this creepy, tragic and yet somehow sensual mood.
Other than that I don't really care about the music videos really. Usually I really like the live videos, especially for bands that are known for their energy live such as Happiness Is A Smile by TDEP or ETID's The Coin Has A Say. I think it is way more important for a band when releasing an album to keep the same mood or style - for example I liked Vein.fm's videos from Errorzone having that mutilated guy going through some bizzare 'evolution'.

A little tidbit about the Warrent video, another reason he really hated this song was because this song wasn’t a song that they had written for the album. They had already finished the album and they were really proud of the album as it was and the record company came back and basically said they wanted them to make a catchy cheesy song that they could make a video of . So they really never wanted to even make this song they were kind of threatened by the record label and were told if they didn’t make a song like this that the album wasn’t going to be released so it took them about three days to write this song and they recorded it and the record company loved it and it became the lead single and that was the only song they were known for after that.

TH-cam must actually like you. Cause I see all your videos from this channel. And I didn’t even realize it was a second channel for a while. And since TH-cam puts almost all your videos from this channel on my feed. I didn’t even realize I wasn’t subbed ! And I’m a huge punk rock MBA fan so that’s why they show me this content. But there are other content creators with second Channels that I never knew about cause they were never in my feed.
Lol I’m glad TH-cam likes you cause I love this content! BTW. I subbed right as soon as I realized love your content man. Especially when talking about pop punk and hardcore and stuff, sometimes I feel like my words are coming out of your mouth. Only worded better haha.
    Keep it up.

One of the things that I enjoy while watching Finn is that we can agree sometimes, for example Duality by Slipknot is one of my less favorite songs too and not to mention, his take on the Avenged Sevenfold fanart was hilarious.

I feel the guy in the Twitch comments saying “don’t take the piss out of if the Slipknot kids” is either
    A. new here,
    B. missing the point entirely,
    or C. very advanced.
No one is taking the piss out of those kids. I’m sure all that heard the comments would say “yeah, I was exactly that kid you’re talking about.”
Clown has said he was red to create an army and that they’ve always been those kids’ voices. I believe them.
I bet the Slipknot guys would have been super cool with all the people that turned up and it would have been an awesome day for everyone.

**Details in sub-comment thread** There is actually a whole story behind the ADTR song. 2nd Sucks is about beef they had with a band that they helped cultivate and put in the good word for to help them get signed, then they all of a sudden acted cold and shitty and actually tried to rip off one of their songs, IIRC, and then said "No, ADTR ripped off of us!" or some shit. I don't actually remember the specifics. All I know is the music critic guy is supposed to be inspired by an actual music journalist from one of those metal music online magazines that used to be big in physical print, who apparently is super nice to their faces and even rates their music highly but then talks shit behind their backs; that, crossed with the CEO of Victory Records, because apparently they both have similar zoot suit douche vibes/aesthetic, like the guy who likes Cake a LOT but is an utterly terrible person and is nothing like the guys in Cake or most of their fans.

Cherry Pie was written in an elevator as he was on the way up to the record labels office and they were gonna drop them if they didn’t produce something the label could work with. It was just supposed to hold them over so they could stay on the label and he didn’t give a shit about it…ends up becoming their biggest song🤷‍♀️

Damn I like Danzig, lol. I totally get the cringe factor and "boring blues jam band" vibe at times. How The Gods Kill, Twist of Cain, Dirty Black Summer, Long Way Back From Hell, Devil's Plaything, Her Black Wings, Left Hand Black....... all classics. I guess a majority of the albums are a pass though.
And Finn, didn't Danzig "do what he set out to do?" LOL I'm making the case :D
