What I wan to see is a robotaxi setting a time on the Nurburgring in traffic, in the rain
I’m sure 10% of the workforce who are facing unemployment would disagree with every word you said regarding Tesla. A case of facts firmly rebutted with opinion it seems.
Need Universal Basic Income
The market doesn't care for excuses... just results.
A massive news episode. I still find it crazy how many people still think EV batteries die in a few years and that EV are not selling. The infrastructure has grown massively in the last 3 years and now many more chargers than just the 2 obligatory ones that were fitted precviously.
Maybe upto one hour or split. It is great to have more information.
Thanks
Don't the CNOs monitor their chargers anyway? Why does Google need to tell them, unless it's to shame them into doing something?
The CNOs have no reason to spend money maintaining their product, instead they absorbed the millions of taxpayer pounds they received to put a tick in the box as per Gov mandate and are skipping off into the sunset. Call me cynical but when are folk going to wake up and realise that us EV owners are being fleeced and expected to accept an abysmal sub standard service.
They totally know the state of the fleet in 15 minute increments. They didn’t care. Now it’s come to name and shame, also payment for meeting uptime service level agreements that are verified by use experience, the CNOs care. And they care a lot.
Always back self interest because at least you know it’s trying
Bit long but your best content in months, I basically treated it like a podcast and had it playing while driving around making my uber delivery's. It lasted all the way from 7-11
Your comments about Chinese auto setting up manufacturing sites in Europe reminds me of similar arguments 30 years ago about Japanese auto makers setting up their European ventures. Initial opposition followed by welcome with open arms. Will probably be the same for Chinese auto makers provided their cars prove to be well made and the local workers are treated fairly.
Unless any European car manufacturers go bust. I’m sure most of the public just want good quality cheap cars
Imagine airports with solar pv all over their roofs powering the planes
I imagined it and it's not going to happen. Large aircraft cannot land fully fueled ie at full weight. An ev plane is always at full weight
Google electric planes. Companies like Joby are developing and flying them for short haul
just taking a coffee break and am thoroughly enjoying your company. You seem to have found your stride; good man! Keep up the good work
a app to tell about the problems with many EV chargers, you do not need a app to tell you which petrol is working!!!!!
I couldn’t work the last Tesco Pay At Pump I went to
Is the person or persons who programmed that robo taxi in jail now? I doubt it as the EV lobby is very powerful. That car should have remained stopped as a human driver would have knowing a person was injured possibly dead near the vehicle. For it to drive off and cause further damage to that person is akin to 'hit and run', which in most countries is a serious crime.
The law for corporate liability is not well enough developed to cover this case.
Google “Therac 25”
Dave, While Wall Street is, in many ways, like legalized high-stakes gambling, it does make the financial rules that the corporate world lives by. It's analysts are not being mean to Tesla, they set realistic expectations and price the company on whether or not those expections are met. Tesla may have been hindered by events both in- and out of it's control, but that's not the whole story. While production may have been hampered, it's stock of unsold cars has gone up. Since its 2021 peak, Tesla shares have lost nearly 50% in value. Musk has canned 10% of his workforce worldwide in an effort to cut costs. Musk axed the model 2 in favour of Robo taxi development, it might be a capacity issue, it could also very well be that he realizes he can't make money on it. Welcome to the competitive world, Elon. Rivian and Lucid are both losing a great deal of money, is Tesla going to survive actual competition and diminishing demand? Time will tell!
I hope the people discussing the investments that keep my pension heathy aren't discussing the performance of investments in the pub........I certainly know that in the American company I worked for, the CEO made the statements about how the Company would perform and the share price on Wall Street was judged on the performance the Company actually made.
Afternoon Dave
Why on Earth does a downturn in the economy and some lay-offs mean the end of EVs to some people ?😂
Confirmation bias
80% of reports will be bad, people don't bother to report when things are good.
&charge currently missing many charge points but better than google in the locations that I regularly use. Please make them aware of this in your meeting.
All chargers should be mandated so that they must allow contactless payment avoiding 20 apps, RFID cards etc.
VW BEV sales are down 24% in Europe. Not good in 2024.
EV Road tax. Expensive car supplement. Removal of congestion charge exemption.
Excess insurance costs.
Ppl are concerned about the 2025 days.
Regarding method of payment you are absolutely right. The UK government and presumably the EU have actually done something useful by mandating contactless payment on all new chargers. I think there should be another ruling stating that contactless payment should be no more expensive than apps or accounts.
I've only ever had 3 apps, Tesla, because my EV is non Tesla and with the app I can use their chargers, the cheapest around. Chargemap because with that I can use almost any other charger and My Renault because I can monitor and configure my car remotely. So not 20 then?!
You say VW EV sales are down 24%. But other companies are doing the opposite, eg. Peugeot +32%, Renault + 20%. It's a market place. Winners and losers!
@@stuartburns8657 Fair point but, given that you are not likely to be off roading for more than 450kms, around the range of most modern EVs, I don't see a problem.
@27:57 "Tesla lost 2 staff" ? Oh and 10% of it's entire Global workforce 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't know about the dancing Atlas robots, I've seen them jumping around an assault course carrying a toolbox, I haven't seen Optimus doing that - only walking along for a bit in what looked like a CGI video - I may be wrong!
Maybe also, Boston Dynamics and it's CEO's pay their fair share of taxes!?
In my experience of various process engineering I would agree that Chinese engineering products are cheap, but quality is abysmal.....I'm very concerned that our new nuclear power stations will be constructed with Chinese substandard products (quite often badged as European).
@29:21 Elon said publicly that Reuters were lying, he should be charged with insider trading according to you.
I'm with Octopus but not on the night tariff as i live alone , i have just got the Elecrroverse card but can you tell me how to get them to use my credit i have with them as its built up and not may bank account please ?
I'm not sure that Octopus actually operate Electroverse themselves. I was using it before I started having my energy from them. But they do take the money out of my electric account now.
@@steveorton2441 Thanks i wasnt sure as it says it takes it from my account but its asking for my bank detail so im still a bit confused and i cant find the list of chargers they use .
Ditch silly accounts and payment cards and just use contactless. That is the way people buy pretty much anything inexpensive nowadays and charging should be no exception.
@@rogerphelps9939 i got it as is gives access to chargers in Europe thaat dont have contactless and the 20% discount
Mic not plugged in ?
Mercedes and BMW have spoken out *OPPOSING* protectionism in Europe.
Yes, it is as bad as reported in the media. Tesla is screwed.
If it's got no driver who's gonna plug them in to charge them.
Ever heard of contactless charging? Tesla has.
The Kia EV9 is as wide as a van. World “Car” of the Year?
How do you see a robotaxi recharging on long journeys?
I should imagine that the wireless charging stations that are being developed will provide this capability
@@steveh4534 or perhaps they will have a robot at each charging station!
Why is Zap map not still the goto for all this mapping functionality? Seems with &charging and google rolling up choice can be detrimental to their goal (though Google if they stick with it can form a monopoly, given the map app we mainly have anyway and we really don't want another app)
I am not sure about ZapMap - there are at least two chargers local to me that are not on ZapMap. One used to be but has disappeared and there's a PodPoint that I submitted to ZapMap over 6 months ago that is yet to be be included. I know it's a lot of work keeping it up to date, and you imagine the charging companies would want to be on ZapMap. We do need a definitive list
Having just been through a series of test drives of the new Highland M3 and the old ones, the refresh is very much just a minor refresh, definitely not a new car! In fact, in the end ive decided it makes more sense to buy the old one used. The new one is a bit better in some areas, but a bit worse in others.
Well, according to experts who've driven it, it's essentially a "new" vehicle... But what do they know.....
.
(50% new components, completely new front end, all new double insulated glass, new suspension (redesigned, not just component upgrades) BVH upgrades, aerodynamic improvements, new interior (including seating upgrades) modified drive train for 5-8% more range...... Etc, etc.
Dave must have a lot of shares in Tesla lol
Yes. It is just a Tesla fanboy channel. Lots of "Look at me. I have a Tesla. Aren't I clever?" etc etc.
@@rogerphelps9939 What got to me was when he said Tesla robo-taxi's. It's as if Dave has no idea that Tesla can't handle regular roads other than well marked motorways.
I'd suggest Dave stops watching Elon Musk's aspirational bs video's and stay in the real world.
I really enjoy your weekly news. I find myself laughing at your observations. Why is this not obvious to everyone? Thank you Dave.
Entertainment and news all in one, must be getting better
Mercedes were the 8th biggest selling car brand in China in March.
STELLANTIS have already signed a deal with Leap Motors. It gives STELLANTIS the exclusive rights to manufacture and sell Leap Motor vehicles internationally.
There will be more layoffs aswell over the next few years, robots incoming.
It's not robots. It's the US and other economies on shaky ground.
Remember the last 4-5 years when Tesla was always preempting others?
There was a cry of "Tesla failing!!" Then 6 months later, Tesla was fine, but everyone else was in trouble? (Coughchipscough)
@@rogerstarkey5390 The US economy is booming. IOt has the highest growth rate in the G7.
Yes Dave, I like this podcast for format, i can listen to it in the car, in the bath, and whilst performing other tasks in the home, oarticularly whilst tinkering in my garage.
It keeps me up to date with whats going on, what isnt going on and what has been going on....all whilst you are going on...and on...and on 😂
Keep up the good work, im really enjoying your content. I hope that you dont get too big and get enticed by sponsorship, which inevitibly leads to bias.
Most of what he spouts is Tesla propaganda drivel.
In theory, your ideas re the robotaxi make perfect sense but two initial thoughts occur to me.
Firstly, they would need individual countries governments to give approval and I couldn’t (maybe naively) see this happening in the UK for a number of years.
Secondly, should there be, god forbid, a fatality or more than one, involving or caused by a robotaxi, then the whole system would need to be closed down for an indefinite period and customer confidence would plummet. The outcome would be at best, uncertain🤔
Yes Richard a complicated story but in UK we already have draft legislation to allow driverless cars. A single fatality would need an immediate decision; system failure or totally unavoidable accident? Only a system failure should cause shut down. One fatality is acceptable, we have hundreds a year already and we don’t ban human drivers
@@davetakesiton Whats going to happen to the cabbies it puts out of work its coming to my industry construction driverless machinery where does it end
JLR very recently signed an agreement with Chery to use it's platforms.
The thing I'm looking forward to is mass adoption of driverless cars because it will stuff the councils that put all those punative fines in for minor traffic infringements and the extortionate car park charges. They will have to come up with other ideas to screw over the drivers.
Is this going to allow the Anti EV Luddites to erroneously feed malicious info into the system, I wonder?
I watch tesla bjorn and chinese software / adas can be quite buggy, even more so than mercedes and bmw .
This entire video was like an exercise in damage limitation on behalf of Tesla 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What do you expect from a Tesla fanboy?
I mean it’s so lame and desperate at this point.
@11:53 The only cars the Chinese are buying are EVs ? *32.8% of cars sold in China in March were either full electric or plugin hybrid*
Not as many as Norway then?
as someone who knows people in china, the economy is not so good right now.
Google maps ain’t that good….but better than nothing, thanks for all the news updates👍
The issue with chargers is all part of the piecemeal & unregulated rollout. To many operators each running their own systems. We need a standard API that is built into each charger, that self reports issues (Which is I guess Tesla have). As well as informing APPS about the issues. Not sure it can handle the fact people are waiting though. Google & &charge are relying on people reporting. We all know how well that works, as many simply won't bother. Just moan about nothing being done.
We also need the charger that IS both reliable and 4-5 times cheaper to install rolled out under licence, plus local authorities to get their fingers out and authorise the power hookup.
If it is Tesla it is not standard.
If you have worked for Tesla on your CV it will help you enormously in finding another job. It's better than any paper qualifications. Tesla expands rapidly they can over hire to achieve their objectives, but once established and they start stream lining their operation they let go of anyone they don't need just like any other company, banks included. It's telling that all the top directors have spent many years at the company and are leaving as multi millionaires! They don't have to drive themselves at the pace they have worked at for Tesla. They are human beings but machines.
Apparently unless they were kicked out for underperformance they seem to welcome them back in the good times
At the moment, Chinese EVs are not selling well in the EU, with the possible exception of MG.
You're completely ignoring the European branded EVs that are actually made in China, Volvo, BMW, Dacia and of course Tesla for example.
As noted... The "rebranded" vehicles, plus "the Chinese brands" have generally only been in Europe for less than 6 months...
@@ziggarillo Most of the vehicles you mention are made in Europe. Also, not all Teslas are made in China.

But of course you never see a petrol pump out of order do you?
I hope you're being sarcastic
@@rogerstarkey5390 Perish the thought😁
Came across one last year -first time in 40 years of driving. Seen a few where one or 2 out of the 3 or 4 different fuels were out but generally worst case you move forward to the next pump - so another 5 seconds added to your journey.
I have seen plenty out of fuel and having to go somewhere else.
@@bordersw1239And on the few, very few occasions that I have ever found a charger out of action i simply move to another charger - takes a few seconds.
in addition to the reasons mentioned, tesla does not have tech ready for Model 2 and the main one is a solid state battery production at scale.
1) There IS NO "solid state" battery.
.
2) It's not called "Model 2" (ref Elon Musk)
@@rogerstarkey5390 Tesla cannot hack the affordable car mass market.

I enjoy your common sense and knowledgeable analysis.
BMW and Mercedes are decades behind Chinese BEV manufacturers ? OK, Comrade. If you say so.
Who is currently hoarding LG batteries ? Tesla.
All these super advanced Chinese EVs run on Nvidia and Qualcomm *(American)* chips.
What’s your point ?
Made in Taiwan and designed in the UK actually.
Got your coolie hat on with your slanty eyes/
Seem the public has started to realise that the future does not include EVs.
Wrong. If our grandchildren are going to have lives worth living we have to get to net zero and EVs are part of that. Furthermore sales of ICEs are being banned after 2035 or earlier in most advanced countries. Seems you either have not thought about that, are in thrall to a fossil fuel outfit or just don't care about the environment that our grandchildren will inherit.
