    Beautiful video, and shows the South Pacific as it is. French Polynesia had always been at the very apex of my wife's and my travel dreams. In June 2017 we had the trip of a lifetime that I can't imagine can be surpassed. My oldest friend has done very well in life and is part of a club that is kind of a timeshare for boat cruising. He chartered a 60 foot sailing catamaran and he invited ten of us; old friends, his adult kids and cousins. We had a skilled and friendly captain and mate. This was the absolutely perfect way to see these atolls, as Steve and Manjula did because when you anchor your boat in the lagoon you have the beautiful reef and motus on one side and the central volcanic island on the other. They say there are 14 shades of blue in these atolls. Just look at an aerial view and you'll believe it. Everyday was a level of beauty and G-d's grace that just made you feel peaceful and quiet. The diving was the best I'd ever done. As they said the depths in the lagoon went from shallow to about 100 feet, and then from just inside the reef, 20 or so feet over to the outside edge it could drop down 6,000 feet into blue ocean. We saw the most beautiful and varied coral and fish life we've ever seen, including manta rays, eagle rays and sting rays, blacktip sharks (first time seeing sharks in the wild for me.) Then the evenings were gorgeous; cocktails on the upper deck, no light pollution and constellations I'd never seen before as I'd never been south of the Equator. The entire experience was like a week-long prayer. I'll always be grateful for it.

      TheRayor99 hit the nail: Exploring Oceania`s world of islands aboard a reasonably long and capacious vessel in the company of family and friends - it doesn`t get any better than that. Reminds me of a beautiful song by Crosby, Stills & Nash from the late `70s called "Southern Cross". Among an elite circle of notable rock musicians, writing songs about the transcendental experience of sailing became *de rigueur* for a couple of years in the mid- to late 1970s; this phenomemen was called *Marina Rock* at the time. The musicians who were part of this trend had in common that they had become rich since the 1960s and lived in Southern California where owning a big yacht was an obvious choice for folks owning more money than they could spend in a lifetime. As for Crosby, Stills & Nash`s song, it is in line with the trend of the time insofar as it is emphatically *not* about cruising the pacific surrounded by one`s friends and loved ones, but about a man (Stephen Stills) who puts to sea on his own to leave behind the unwholesome life he had led lately: the life of a man who had been repeatedly deserted by the same woman. Mind you, we are in the decade immediately following the cultural revolution of the 1960s when divorce rates skyrocketed for the first time in recorded history.
      Enough said. Here it is:

    I was born on an atoll island in the South Pacific. I also grew up there, but now I am living in the middle of a big continent here in mainland USA. How different life here is compared to life out there on the islands. Your clear and vivid videos just makes me feel like I am out there when I watch it. The only thing absent of course is the heat of the tropical sun that I know is always present at daytime. Hopefully I will go back one day to swim in the lagoon again before it is lost forever by the increasing sea level rise (if science predictions are correct). Thank you for sharing your adventures on those islands.

    Living on an atoll is an experience that I will never forget. I've been to several such as Johnston Island, Midway and Kwajalein the beauty is in the isolation. Most are only several meters above the ocean with a coral reef that surround them. No phones, TV, newspapers and internet...just imagine, how simple life can be. My only regret is that the industrialized world has managed to pollute the ocean to such an extent that the coral beaches are littered with plastics, rubber products and those throw away cigarette lighters. I like your video though and there is beautyall around.

      Bill Johnson Hi Bill. Thanks for watching. I agree with your comment. The beauty of being immersed in nature and away from modern life is wonderful. And...the plastic trash is heart breaking. Hopefully things are changing. In just a few short years many countries have banned single use plastic bags. If we continue to raise awareness of the consequences of our lifestyle, then we may yet be able to make the necessary changes.
      All the best,
      Steve

    What a beautiful video, and how wonderful to see for real these remote little jewels of land in a sparkling sea! And the music was so well chosen - from Pat Metheny's Secret Story, one of my favourite albums of all time, and one of my favourite artistes, too. His music is so very
    cinematic and descriptive, and often puts tears in my eyes from the images he evokes.
    I would so love to do something like this, but I know I never will. But I can travel the world on the internet for almost nothing - here's a list of the places I've found that I'd most love to visit (and they're not all sunkissed ocean paradises):
    Niuafo'ou - most remote, most northerly, tiny island of the Tonga group. No, I've no idea how it's pronounced; they issue their own postage stamps, too - always a plus point!
    Aogashima - a volcano island about 220 miles south of Tokyo, with a village built inside the crater! And with roads! And buses! And shops! And neatly cultivated crop fields!
    Any of the Japanese islands given over to cats (there are about 12) -- I am a lifelong cat devotee, and have 3 myself;
    Kapingamarangi atoll - very remote and isolated island of the Micronesia group;
    Any of the Maldives or the Laccadives;
    St Kilda - just in the local neighbourhood for me, here in the UK - but terribly hard to get to;
    Novaya Zemlya - an obscure but huge pair of islands off the north coast of Russia, the northern extremity of the Ural mountain chain. Covered with glaciers, and completely off limits to visitors, due to being a nuclear testing zone;
    Frans Josef Land - even more obscure, hardly ever mentioned, the most northerly islands on the planet. Yet they appear to be largely ice-free much of the time, and have some unique species of shrubs;
    Baker Island and Howland Island - about as close to the centre of the Pacific as you can get without falling down the hole in the middle... 8=)), and completely devoid of people (and resources!) Just flat pancakes covered in low scrub bush;
    Henderson, Ducie and Oeno - the other 3 islands which make up the Pitcairn Islands group. Completely isolated, even from Pitcairn, uninhabited, and sadly littered with plastic waste swept ashore by ocean currents; beautiful places, nevertheless;
    The Caribbean - almost anywhere, really, but let me pick 3:
    ...Turks & Caicos Islands - just a sprinkle of little specks of land and sand and salt cays at the southern end of the Bahamas;
    ...de Palm Island, Aruba, Dutch Antilles - basically just a long, narrow sand spit off the western coast of Aruba, very much a rich man's paradise, with one very commercialised end, and one unspoilt end still swathed in greenery;
    ...San Blas Islands, Panama - a scatter of about 365 minute islands close to the eastern coast of Panama, which have an idyllic climate, an easy going lifestyle and friendly local natives;
    ...OK, 4, but this one's a bit of a joke...
    ...Redonda - a savagely difficult block of volcanic rock, which is part of Antigua & Barbuda, almost impossible to land on, no viable land for cultivation, but claimed by W.L.Gates in an assumed role as 'King Leo of Redonda'!
    Saint Pierre et Miquelon - an anachronistic archipelago, windswept and barren, off the southern coast of Newfoundland, Canada, which still maintains strong ties to France as an overseas department;
    The Florida Keys - mostly, I'd love to spend time exploring some of the really tiny ones, some no bigger than a tennis court, which the Overseas Highway barely touches;
    Belcher Islands - an odd bunch of strips of land, arranged NE to SW, in the midst of the huge, freezing expanse of icy water of Hudson Bay, Canada, completely treeless and windblown;
    Tristan da Cunha - an almost circular volcanic blob in the far reaches of the southern Atlantic, with a small population in a single settlement, struggling to sustain life in very hostile circumstances;
    South Sandwich Islands - part of the Falkland Islands Dependencies, and a forbidding string of volcanic blobs, completely impossible for human life, although with substantial seal and penguin colonies. Fearfully cold and storm-lashed, many wreathed with glaciers, but with intriguing names - Candlemas Island being my favourite
    And as we've somewhat drifted away from the theme of atolls, to end on, somewhere nice and hot and remote...
    Farquhar Atoll - the southernmost and most remote of a long chain of specks extending south from the Seychelles group, although closer to the northern tip of Madagascar.
    Well I hope that your voyages take you to some of these places - if so, don't forget to film your trips and post it here for us all to see and drool over! Thanks for the story so far.

    In 1980 i visited Raratonga following from reading the book An Island To Oneself by Tom Neal. He lived on a tiny atol called Suvarov in the Cook Islands. Raratonga then was beautiful with hardly any tourism. I lived in a little shack next to the beach lstening to the surf on the reef at night. Beautiful.

    Thank you so much for sharing this video. I am sooo jealous, however, this film allows me to see it through y'alls eyes. Sharing this video allows us to at least go there in our imaginations and have it feel real. I really cannot thank you enough. God Bless, and here's to wishing more adventures for you and your family, but please share them.♥†♥

    this video brings back so many memories. so true about the abundent sea life and the colors of the diffrent corals and sponges . one fish I used to love watching but not touching was the lion fish they come in a varaity of colors. I have been blessed by being able to dive and snorkel in australias great barrier reef. all over the philippines. guam, saipan. truck lagoon (now called Chook) and a number of small islands in the bikini groupe. thanks for sharing your video
