This video is the most well-made of the many glimmer mist dupe videos I've watched on TH-cam. Thank you for taking the time to have a video that is well organized, well lit, and rife with immediately useful info (e.g., how much paint to use, which type of paint for which type of effect). Well done!
Boy oh boy! That was great! Thank you so much! Yeah this is the best tutorial I've seen on home made glimmer mist. Great tip about using metallic paints instead of glitter or pearl-ex powders.
Awesome .... N u r cute.... I always laugh when u show the blue one n said ' No'. , I live in Canada n yes the glimmer mist is too prizy. Thanks for share . I just love crafting.
These are great ,I am hoping the Hobby Craft stores we have here in the u.k sell this type of paint ,because this is a super money saver, thank you so much for sharing .
TYFS! the visual was the best...I got three extreme glitters w/ tip as gift....and wasn't liking them. Was going to use in spray bottles. But you shoeed me not to use for scrapping. will use on wintery style gift tags ;) Ty again for sharing!
@cgparrish60 thanks for your question :) I added the glue as a precaution. I didn't know if the metallic paint would flake or rub off. It didn't either way. But this glimmer/shimmer spray works like a dream. I've even mixed colours (in the bottles) and made different shades. Thanks a bunch!
Hi, another fellow Canadian, Toronto area. The glue acts as a stabilizer and that means that when you spray, the specks of glitter will adhere to the paper/background and not flake off with movement or over time. I use alcohol (highest % is best) and the only difference is that alcohol dries/evaporates faster than water. Hope you don't mind my notes.
Oh and this applies especially to acrylic sprays, not so much water based and never shake up-and-down, but rather like ringing a bell - backwards and forwards.
Thanks for your question! After some testing... truth is, you don't sctually need to add any glue when using the Folk Art metallic paint. I did just in case but you don't need it. Hope this helps!
Could I use a pouring medium? Over acrylic pours and have a lot left. Even maybe GAC? I know from pours that adding too much water breaks down the polymers in acrylic paint...will give it a try. Thanks for all of your tips...cutting the tube at an angle, beads in bottom! Love learning new tricks!
Thanks for sharing your technique and video. I learned so much. Have you thought about adding a small marble to the glitter-mix to help mix it when it has settled? A heavy glass bead would also work.
Have a ? for you i was watching your video and i liked it. My ? is can i use any type of glue. Like white elmers glue i noticed that the glue used was clear. Can you please let me know. thanks jp
Thanks for sharing, I've tried the glitter paint before and the first few times it was ok but the big chunks of glitter clogged my sprayer. I'm going with the metallic from now on :0)
In my opinion you have the best DIY glimmer mist. I check the price on E-bay cost about$ 10 because it has to ship from US to Canada. By the way, what blower (dryer) do you use for dry the color?
I know this is an old video but you just saved my wallet!! I am definitely doing this! I am going to experiment and try mixing it with alcohol instead of water so it dries faster. Thank you so much for sharing!
Now well-known facts about home made sprays, especially with glimmer/glitter...they will clog! Without a doubt! To minimise this, first cut the tube, on a diagonal, to just above the bottom of the bottle, store horizontally and cleanse spray mechanism after every use.
good job on this tutorial--you come across as articulate and funny appreciate the tips for creating glimmer paint--I was wondering how I could afford it thanks :)
I've been planning on making some of these... Do you ever have trouble with the little bottles not sealing well enough to keep the alcohol from drying out? I have bottles from the 99cent bin in the HBA section at WM and wasn't sure if they would seal well enough.
@blubonnettx You're very welcome ;) There are a ton of metallic paint colours out there and you can mix colours and get creative. It's a great alternative to pricey sprays. :) Thanks for your kind words! Hugs, Lina
hi i got tatterd angels mist and it has it own glitter in it but it was 8.99 the lady i got it from said is cheper to buy it this way but i dont think so not in canada ebay it some times good in price for some thing i try to get free shipping lol .so would and kind of clear glue work thanks let me know
Me tooooo!!! They melt down so nicely and are beautiful as a spray! Do you use alcohol or water? I've tried both...both work well but the alcohol dries so much quicker plus I'm one of those weirdos that loves the smell of it lol
@OneHappyCraftyChick You're sooo welcome! This option is great because out of one bottle of paint, you can create 5-7 bottles of shimmer sprays. Of course, it all depends on how much paint you add to each one. Plus, the paint often goes on sale...BONUS! Thanks for watching! Hugs, Lina
@ningram4 I have changed my glimmer mist dupe formula. I changed the water to rubbing alcohol a few months ago and I love it! It all dries super fast and doesn't warp paper like water does. Thanks for the suggestion though ;) Thanks for watching! xo Lina
The problem is that you added so much water you under-bound the paint. You need to use an acrylic medium. They come in a variety of consistencies. Chose either satin or gloss, glazing, flow aid/improver, acrylic polymer or airbrush is pretty thin..regardless of what you chose, read the back label to find out how much water you can add. Under no circumstances add more than 20% water. Also all of the paints you have are about as cheap as you can get. The manufacture has already taken the liberty of watering it down and using as little pigment as possible. I would scratch those altogether and just use pigment or ANY mica based eye shadow. You can buy 50 grams (THAT IS ALOT!!!) of pigment for $3.00 or so on Ebay or buy LA Colors eye shadow from Dollar Tree. Cheap and effective. Just add the pigment to an Acrylic Polymer or medium..the craft and art stores are full of them.
@designzbydebbz Yes, you're right. The glitter paint can definitely clog your sprayer and come out chunky. Metallic paint is the way to go! TFW! xo Lina
semajrn bloom hi im new to this iv been watching alot of these there was a lady that was on about clogging the bottle she found if you take the end of the tube and cut a tiny fraction off at an angle it stops all the clogging hope this helps you
@robinweidenbach Thanks so much!!! You've made my weekend! Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate them :) I must admit... I still buy some of the real stuff too but being able to make my own has really allowed me to be creative and save some money! I use it like crazy! LOL Take care!
Ok this is all great and I'm gonna do it tonight. However with the metallic paints.....where did the glitter come in to play? I must've missed this part??? I want glittery metallic Shimmer paint mist.... Please help me? Anyone!? ☺️😘
@scrapeahappy Hiya! I bought my bottles at my local dollar store. Most dollar will carry these types of bottles. If you can't find any, you can surely find them online. i hope this helps! Lina
I have tried this with the worst most absolutely awful results, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I used less paint than you did too actually but it got all thick and nasty then ruined my bottles. I may actually have used alcohol instead of water, so could that be the reason anyone know??? I'm tired of pulling those dang spray bottles apart and trying to fix them. So frustrating! Lol I'm going to go try your method with water right now, yes at 3 am lol cuz I'm curious. Thanks for the vid! Melissa
Thank you so much for that tip!!!! I wasted 4 bottles trying to figure out how to keep my bottle from clogging and not only is using hot water, mixing thoroughly before use, using beads, helpful... but... cutting it at a diagonal was the game changer!
Great video thx for helping with another hack that helps us po crafters giving us an alternative to work with. I truly know the meaning of a "starving artist" Oh and you don't say Um to much (Lorna) #rude #people
Thank you so much Kellie! I'm glad I could help. Just goes to show that you don't need top of the line, name brand material to create beautiful works of art. This video was posted quite a few years ago and I use my sprays to this day. Have fun! xoLina

Just what I was looking for! Glimmer Mist is expensive in the US, too. Great tutorial! Thanks

Thank you, thank you so-o-o-o much for sharing this. Tattered Angels glimmer mist is pretty but I like what you did better. I'm going to try this!!

Thank you! I was wondering about the difference between alcohol sprays versus water. :)
And if you don’t have glue handy, hair spray works great too , and helps to dry up fast.
Brilliant idea, Lina. Love it. Tfs...hugs!!
Aww thanks so much for your comment! It totally made me smile! Have a great day!
Oh and this applies especially to acrylic sprays, not so much water based and never shake up-and-down, but rather like ringing a bell - backwards and forwards.
I am also from Canada Yes I agree glimmer mist is not cheap in Canada! Thank you very much was very helpful video! Liz...
Thank you Elizabeth! Glad I could help.
I have the metallic peridot already because I love that color so I'm excited to make this!
Love it!! I love the folk art matallic paint even to just rub on my layouts!!!
Thanks for your question! After some testing... truth is, you don't sctually need to add any glue when using the Folk Art metallic paint. I did just in case but you don't need it. Hope this helps!
Thanks for showing, I'll be buying some metallic paints to make some for myself.

I love you and so does my bf! :) You just saved me a fortune! Thank you soooo much, amazing video!
Awesome Tutorial! Love this!!
Love this idea, I'm gonna try it. Just curious though, why do you need the glue? Is there a problem with it binding?
Have a ? for you i was watching your video and i liked it. My ? is can i use any type of glue. Like white elmers glue i noticed that the glue used was clear. Can you please let me know. thanks jp
try pixie powders and mix with water. it comes out lovely and shines beautifully.
Thanks for sharing, I've tried the glitter paint before and the first few times it was ok but the big chunks of glitter clogged my sprayer. I'm going with the metallic from now on :0)

I agree! I use the stuff like it's going outta style...LOL! I love it! Thanks for watching! Lina
Great idea! Tfs!
Have you thought about putting a small bead in the bottle to help mix the paint?
Sally Malec i did think of that too. Just to find a heavy bead now. LOL good thinking.
Sally Malec where can I buy little metal beads for inside the bottles to mix paint better ?? xx
@@elizabethhalley3114 bb's for b b guns...or just glass beads will work...like pearl size that's what I use

does it matter what kind of glue you use, and how does that affect how the glimmer mist works?
Excellent tutorial
Great tutorial! Where did you buy yir bottles from?
thank you for sharing you technique and vidoe yes in canada
@devandtiff
i pleasure! I hope you enjoyed!

I've been experimenting with faber castel metallic gellatos. They came out very nice. TFS!

Havve you tried using alcohol instead of the water? Also, what kind of glue did you use? Thanks for sharing.
I have a lot of dye from when I did yarn. What do you have to do differently to use that? Boiling water?
I put glass beads in the bottles with acrylic sprays. I have some that are four yrs old and work well.
love your wallpaper where did you get it thanks!
@ningram4 I have changed my glimmer mist dupe formula. I changed the water to rubbing alcohol a few months ago and I love it! It all dries super fast and doesn't warp paper like water does. Thanks for the suggestion though ;)
Thanks for watching!

Won't the extreme glitter clog the nozzle?
Aileen Jacques No, years later, it all still works great!
Instead of putting glue in try a squirt of hairspray in alot says it stops the glitter from dropping off
Yeah totally! I would too! things are over priced here in Canada too! I feel your pain! LOL!

do you have a website you use for the spray bottles?
Thank you so much for sharing that :)
love them gonna make some!!!
add some square glass beads to help mix it up so u dont have to shake it.
where do you get the bottles?
Hi, by using so much paint does your nozzle get clogged? I am new to scrapbooking and can't afford glitter mist. Thanks for the video :-)
I use alcohol and hairspray. And try not as much water, dilutes the color a lot. Alcohol evaporates much faster and then you don’t need a hair dryer 😊
Do your spray bottles clog? My sprays made with any acrylic paints always do!!
semajrn bloom hi im new to this iv been watching alot of these there was a lady that was on about clogging the bottle she found if you take the end of the tube and cut a tiny fraction off at an angle it stops all the clogging hope this helps you

Good review,... thx
If you put some bebe's in the bottle it will help mix the things on the bottom
@Venuszenith
Have fun!
Thank you so much.
Can you old eye shadow
LOL! Thanks for watching! i appreciate your comment! :D
Ok this is all great and I'm gonna do it tonight. However with the metallic paints.....where did the glitter come in to play? I must've missed this part??? I want glittery metallic Shimmer paint mist.... Please help me? Anyone!? ☺️😘
The metallic paint has the 'glitter' (for lack of a better word) in them already ... that is what makes them glittery. I hope that makes sense. 🤗😊🙃
@Moniqueb1972 Not a problem, anytime!
xoxoxo
$14.50 for glimmer mist in Australian. When the craft store has a sale I go nuts.
@scrapeahappy Hiya!
I bought my bottles at my local dollar store. Most dollar will carry these types of bottles. If you can't find any, you can surely find them online. i hope this helps!

what clue did you use?
It's just plain school glue. In this case, I used clear glue from Martha Stewart.
oh ok thank you!!
@devandtiff
Silly me... I meant MY pleasure! LOL
and alcohol will help it dry quicker than water.
@bananashaveice I promise you you'll never buy brand name glimmer/shimmer mists again! LOL Please let me know how it all went!
Use old eye shadow
