    I get the feeling that playing in your studio space would be so much fun! I can just imagine it- talking and goofing off while we create colorful chaos on whatever medium we chose to work on! You also make me feel less weird, because I'm interested in so many things and want to learn to do all of them! Sewing, painting, jewelry making, sculpting, photography... my list of hobbies just goes on and on!

    I am in the middle of making a ton of amazing shimmer & watercolour sprays at the moment & it’s so much fun 🤩! The liquid watercolours can be found for a decent price just keep looking online, I paid £35 in the uk for 6 colours, in the big bottles (that price includes postage) & they are going to last & be a lot of fun! It works out so much cheaper it’s unbelievable! Thanks for another great video 👍🏼🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    I Love you! I found you while I was stumbling around the internet last week. I was SURE there must be a brilliant Crafter out there who knew how to make Glimmer Spray and other arty stuff. Brilliant! That would be you! I would love to have the whole Ranger ink line but I have bills to pay so I am art on a shoestring. Thank you so much for sharing and being there for the rest of us. Big hugs!!!

    Great video as usual, Lindsay! I have made these sprays using water, distress ink re-inkers and Perfect Pearls - these have a binding agent in them so they don't rub off the paper once dry. Love how you can customise the colours. I bought my spray bottles really cheap in Superdrug.

    I just straight up dump cheap watercolor tubes into those bottles then put alcohol or water in and shake the heck out of it and just make sure I shake it before I spray each time. They've worked wonderfully. Don't have to buy a whole set of expensive designer sprays too.

    you were actually a lot of fun to watch! i do acrylic painting and recently figured out that using these spray bottles is awesome for applying stencil designs without using the acrylic paint straight from the bottle.. ive been using the black permanent spray and have noticed a lot of cool effects ive been able to do. now i need to mix my own colors and add some variety! thanks for showing us!

    I bought gold and pearl liquid watercolor from Blick Art Materials (online $3.50 an 8oz bottle) and just put a squirt in a spry bottle with water. It works great and does not clog. The eyeshadow is really fine too, I's say try 1/8teaspoon per 3 oz of water and "ring the bell" and if it looks like liqud gold that is perfect, if not try another 1/8tsp. I too have clogged many bottles overdoing it with the mica powder:)

    Your version of the do it yourself shimmer color mist is the best and that's what I wound up using after a few trials and errors (liquid water color and food color--the Easter neon are a fun way to get some new colors for really cheap entry start). I also loved your additional tip on one of the Ask a Crafter sessions where you talked about using the ink from printer refill ink kits which is what I wound up for my black. As for white, I had to use acrylic and I put it in a sprayer I didn't care about too much if it clogged and I use that over bluish / teal color sprays to look like ocean wave frost. Thank you for all that you do and teach us beginners :) I appreciate it.

      Just to follow up, Dick Blick does have black and the shimmery clear which is mostly white but I couldn't find them in my local DB store so I bought the few colors that my local teacher supply store had and they just had blue, red, yellow, orange, magenta, green...One day I will order online some more colors but for now, I have what I need :)

    Lindsey Weirich, Hi there! I am one of you newbies and you just amaze me. I am a self taught artist, I have only had one college Art Class, and my teacher was excellent. I do not know if she knew as much as you, however she was nowhere near your sweet, bubbly personality. I knew you were an educator, you are so sharing and giving, just so very happy to share your many talents with us. I am in my late sixties and now have time for myself, to paint and my new passion, jewelry making. Kiddo, I am taking notes, watching your videos for the second time. Just had to let you know, just how much I appreciate and respect you, Lindsey, Blessings and Hugs, Val.

    I have tried this with 3 colors so far and it is fantastic, thank you for sharing this information, I never even knew liquid watercolors existed!
    I love that I just had to buy 5 bottles of paint and I can make an infinite variety of colors of ink sprays and glimmer mists! I think I spent about $15 and each bottle of watercolor really does go a long long way so I enjoy using them instead of feeling like I should save them for something special.

  • @thefrugalcrafter

    all kinds of stuff! You can dye silk flowers, paper and fabric (iron it after it to make it more permanent), you can refill dye stamp pads (I add a couple drops of glycerin to make the ink thicker) if you don't have reinker, I use this for my kids inkpads especially, shaving cream marbleizing (I have a video) and you can paint with it!

    add a bit of the opposite color so if you have really bright neon red you want to add a bit of green (yellow+blue) etc. Just look across the color wheel to find an opposite or complimentary color;) Glad the colors worked for you!

    for an opaque white spray try white liquid tempera paint (kids art supply section of craft store) and water. Keep adding the tempera until it is as opaque as you want. It will be about the consistency of whole milk and you will need to shake it every time you use it;)

    Wowza...I HATE HATE HATE dollar store cheap crafters...or I did until I found you. I used to say that I could tell 100% of the time that the crap was dollar store quality but now I must say 99% because you do a great job. Those daubers? I think I need to make some. It's funny because I never used them until recently and I decided I like them but hate the thought of spending money to get enough to cover all my Distress Ink colors. I have made misters with Distress reinkers but using the MiniMisters which empty in hot minute. I love your sprays-from the bottles to the micas (dollar store eye shadow...brilliant) to the Blick liquid water colors which I did not know of. I can't wait to see what else you do to blow my mind.

      0.o ... HOW can you "hate" crafters that make there crafts on a bargain O.O ... isnt THAT what crafting is about ??!!! DIY ! Beeing creativ ... when I go into one of those stores I get like Tons of Ideas what to do !!! Are you one of those that buy expensive crafting bundles that tell you step by step what exactly to do ?! So you can at least feel creativ ?! I dont ge it seriously !! I am actually kind of hording (like a real Crafter does lol) the stanges stuff O.o ... and sure those are leftovers or packing or very cheap BUT I did use and do use those stuff a lot !! And when I mae something unique out of it and someone comes to ask me how much did this grab our wallet ... saying that was free or like less then xxx bucks ... and seeing there Face drop ... I am surely loving to be a "frugal" Crafter.

    • @daneekaplan4284
      @daneekaplan4284 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      AmelieBrooks I guess what I hate is the finished project looking like it was a dollar store craft. If you are going to do it you need to make it look like it is high end- something I think Lindsey does and has really excites me. But I get what you are saying- and to each her own. I am a very experienced crafter but I realize that bloggers and Pinterest has brought crafting to many many people who didn't think they could craft. And that can only be a good thing. That doesn't mean I want to see that blogger or Pin or that I want to make that project. I guess what I love about Lindsey and was trying to say was that I have a very hard time finding inspiration online because I am looking for things that challenge me. Until Lindsey I can say I Had never had a dollar store crafter inspire me.

    • @AmelieBrooks
      @AmelieBrooks 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      nokay I sure am aware that you are complimenting Lindsey gg !!! Sure online there are many bad baaaaad Pics and Tutorials (called so) that are simply ... ooooum ... cheap in the outcome 0.o ... couriously that can be a projekt made of highclass Materials as well !!! Its about your Intension !! The Inspiration the Creativity and the WILL to craft something, however someone else then you will see it !!! I think I understand now what you mean :o) and if I understand the right way ... I kind of agree !! otherwise if those People put out these things to www they sure are feel okay abou it, so actually no need to "hate" on them ;o) ... just view at this would be your Children ! thats what you come up whit ? did you really want to/tryed to ? Hay thats fine !!
      Actually Lindsey is seiously taleented in drawings O.o what I am not !!! I am more in dollouseminiatures and usefull Crafts gg ... like the seriously "building" ones .
      okay ONE last Thing try to get inspiration from whereever you are ! I dont know what Crafts you are into at least but Insiration is Everywhere even from those sleazy cheap Pics and orVids you might get inspiratet to just do it bedder :o) !!

    • @daneekaplan4284
      @daneekaplan4284 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      AmelieBrooks Ok- you are right. But here's the truth. I see more and more "famous" bloggers who are doing tutorials that suck. They started blogging doing things they knew and were good at, but now "X" years later they are running out of ideas and starting to branch into areas they know nothing about-including a few dollar store crafters. My beef is that I am looking for inspiration...Martha Stewart level inspiration. Not everyone is, I get that and that is why everyone has a place here. But please don't try to "teach" me how to save money being frugal if the end product is made with items that aren't color fast or light fast or even hold together. Lindsey gets all that and that is why I was so happy to find her. She added gum arabic to her mica powder eye shadow so they would stay on the paper. She teaches but she GETS why she is going something. Too many bloggers don't have a clue. They are just following other tutorials. If you can't make it better -or even good-why bother making another tutorial?

  • @jacklynchristani960

    Just had an idea for re-mixing the glimmer sprays (keeping the mica in suspension), add a glass or stone bead to the bottom of the sprayer bottle when you add the water. Make sure the bead is larger than the sprayer tube diameter. As you "TWIRL" to mix (re-mix) the watercolor and glimmer the bead should run around the bottom of the plastic bottle, putting the mica in suspension and should prevent the clogging of the pick up tube. I see you cut the spray tube at a 45 degree angle and about a 1/4 inch above the bottom of the plastic bottle. Thank you Lindsay, you are my favorite part of the day.

      I totally agree with heidi, you would be great on C&C, a lot better than some they have on there. I've been checking out the liquid watercolour on ebay and found some for 2.99 (pounds) for 35ml so thought I'd get just the three colours, then I found another listing for 10 little bottles of various colours, 59ml each, for just 7.99. Even I can do the maths to work out that the 20 pack is much better value lol. They're going on my watch list. It's a shame we can't get stuff from Papermart as the spray bottles are quitr pricey this side of the pond.

    Hi AltaG, I am planning an ink pad basics video and all of that info will be in there. Stay tuned. The watercolors did not come from papermart, they are form Blick Art Materials, just do a search for "blick liquid watercolors" and it will show up:) I use a mix of 1 part simple green (you can get a big jug of it in the automotive section of walmart) to 10 parts water for rubber stamps. For clear stamps I use a mix of baby shampoo, glycerin and water. Good luck!

    Lyndsey, what an awesome idea on using the make up sponges to have ready made daubers. Also you use water to make yours and they look great. I've been using alcohol and the "innerds" from permanent markers and then adding the shimmer powder. THey work great also. What is the advantage to using water mists versus doing the alcohol mists? I just
    thought of something, I bet you could use soda pop bottle lids with the sponges also. I'll have some of both things, I'll try that. Thanks again for another great video.

      water works and I worry about breathing in too much alcohol. I use alcohol in a mister for soapmaking and occasional techniques but I use my spray mists everyday and I want to limit exposure and I am using liquid watercolor and in the long run they are cheaper.. Alcohol has the advantage of not wrinkling paper but the watercolor spray inks won't wrinkle it bad either:)

    I am a subscriber now- I love the idea of making my own sprayers instead of buying them for crazy prices at craft stores- if I buy sprayers from the travel size section, eyeshadow from the dollar store which is my fave shop ever! and use cheap sprays, I can have a nice but cheap collection to make journal art. But my question is where do you get your journals that take paint and water? I want something heaven enough to do all that cuz I think it is brilliant

      87crazycookie I lucked out on my first try with the Canson XL Mixed Media Journal. I am very happy with it, it is spiral bound so the pages stay flat and it is easy to find, almost all the big craft stores have it and you can get it at Oriental Trading Comapny.

    Thank you once again for a great video. The problem I have, is finding a sprayer that sprays evenly. I know that the blotchy spray is what most crafters want but I am a bit different minded. I like a smooth even spray. Do these sprayers give a smooth spray? Right now I am using liquid hair spray bottles and they are really smooth spraying.

    Hello, Lindsay! Thanks for all your videos, I've been watching you for a while and you're a God-sent for crafters!your videos are so useful! Big question for you: I live in Europe, in an area where you can't buy spray inks. I'm trying to make my own, but they don't produce Isopropyl Alcohol, they use only Ethyl Alcohol for medical purposes. So would Ethyl Alcohol work for these or would Vodka be better, since it evaporates fast and leaves pigment behind on the surface used?

    I went and bought the Blick liquid water colors... Great idea, I was using the fluid/thick watercolors in a tube and watering it down. The problem with that was it would settle to the bottom and I would have to shake them forever to use them... Anyway, do you have any suggestions for toning down the fluorescence of the colors. I don't want to add more water because that will lighten the color

    I tried it once and it sprayed well at first but then gummed up in my sprayer. I know it dries permanent, I'm not sure if there is a shellac in it but I did not have luck with it. If you try it let us know how it works for you. I think the face that it is not resoluble n water makes it a bad choice though. I think I would create art with the india ink them spray over it with watercolors!

    Thank you so much !, I do love everything that has to do with paint and you doesn't know how longing my vacation to devote to paint pictures that I want to paint in a while, I'm a fan of painting, the paintings that I painted what I made guiding me from others and I felt satisfied with the result, after seeing your video ''How To Make Stencils with Hot Glue'', I wanted to try as I would, but did not know where to get paint, if that perhaps bought already prepared jars or I could do it, THANKS !, you took me that doubt
    Blessings!
    PS: I am fascinated by your works, are amazing

    hi Linda, thanks for all your great and fun videos I enjoy them very much. I have a question. yesterday I made red, yellow and blue bottles of paint with the water; glimmer and watercolour from a tube. they look great and are nice for a background but it runs underneath stencils. in the yellow I put a tiny little bit of glue to make it run less but that glitters in the spray tip. I used both normal thick paper (cardstock) and watercolour paper but the result is the same it gets too wet so I cannot get a proper patern with my stencils. it runs underneath. I live in Holland so we donnot have same products as with you. maybe you can help me with this problem? Thanks for all your good and creative works and sharing. regards Maaike

    Thank you so much for this! Any idea about how much eye shadow to use? 1/8 of a teaspoon too much or not enough? You have no idea how many bottles I have clogged trying to do this very thing. I need to ring a bell in church. I will always remember that. So many good tips. Also when you mentioned using just the plain colors then spraying with the glimmer spray over top, what is the glimmer spray you used?

      Jane DeSanti maybe, I have not had a issue with the water sprays and alcohol often contains a poison in it so it is not drank so I avoid putting it in sprays.

    Hi Lindsay, I found your tutorial really helpful, thank you. I have a load of small tubes of water colour that came with a package I bought second hand. They are all good so could I use them to make spray colours using water in the same way? Also could acrylic paint from the tube be used? I am conscious of underbidding acrylic paint so would the amount of water needed to spay through the tiny nozzle under bind acrylic paint? Would I be best to use air brush medium to make spray colours from acrylic? Thanks very much Lindsay. x

    I've watched this video three or four times because I really have wanted to make them and today I am going to make at least one. Lindsay you're so funny, miss hoity toity crafter with all your colours. Lol.
    I started my water colour painting journey with a set of reeves tubes and now I have some artist grade half pans from WN and a few other types so I think I'll use the reeves tubes to make my colours as you suggested.
    As for the the eye shadows, etc... I live in Canada and our dollar stores are different. Well, everything that we have access to craft wise is different. Even Michael's, everything is double the price of an actual art store (in most cases) and they only allow one coupon per purchase. And if we try to order from any craft store in the US they don't offer free shipping (it's not like they pay the duties or taxes for us, so why can't they raise the free shipping with purchase *higher threshold price*). Lol. Anyway, I digress, and I apologize for my little rant. Fellow Canucks, I know you feel my pain.
    Anyway, I'm going to assume any dollar store type of make up powders will work.
    Also, I've heard some people say that adding alcohol is a must, but I'm glad to see it works just great without it.
    As always, thanks Lindsay. I find your videos incredibly entertaining.

    • @darylbottema-adkins7957
      @darylbottema-adkins7957 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol. So I had my rant about Michael's in Canada earlier today, right. Well I go out today and just glanced around the clearance rack. 👀
      A crayola marker maker refill kit is sitting there for 2.99. It has three 29 ounce bottles of crayola marker ink 🎉(1 blue, 1 red, 1 yellow). I know the inks are washable, but I didn't know if they were water colour-able. I think for 2.99 I can try it.
      So I get home and google crayola inks water colour... what pops up in the second result?...
      A split coast stammers post with a link to Lindsay's stamping and water colouring with cheap crayola markers. I think it was meant to be. Lol.
      I don't know how I've missed that video over the few years I've been a subscriber, but it's brilliant. I'm going to make my spray inks with these crayola inks and I think it's going to be great. And the best part is I found the perfect small mister bottles at my local art store a couple of weeks ago... 2 in a pack for 1.29. I felt like a jerk, but I just picked up the box of bottle they had and put them in my basket. Sorry, I hope no one else wanted any today. Lol. I did the same thing a week later. I think I'm good for bottle for a while.
      Anyways, thanks once again for all the inspiration. Artistic hobbies are crazy expensive and I'm just so appreciative for the short cuts. I've been using my homemade stamp cleaner pad made of paint edgers and a DVD case for a couple years. It's smaller than the one that I probably should have from stampin up since I am a demo, but I can't save that 25 bucks for more useful tools in my studio.
      The distributor for Spectrum Noir in Canada once said something that I thought was so true. Something like, "You can have artist grade supplies, and not have the skill to produce a piece of beautiful art, but an artist can have sub-par materials and make some of their most beautiful work."
      Her point wasn't to take anything away from the less skilled artist. She just wanted to show that practice and skill aren't the product of the supply and that art is a very therapeutic and beautiful way for the soul to have a bit of a recharge and sharing it is a special thing. I don't know if it was her sales pitch, but I ended up buying the aquablend pencils, colourblend pencils and the entire set of spectrum noir alcohol markers along with a few other things over time as my budget allowed for it. Lol. Wait. That may have been Lindsay's fault for introducing me to her experiences with them.
      Anyway. I just wanted to share my story so you can see how your videos inspire people and make good things happen out here. Cheers to Lindsay!

    I've use acrylic paints (iridescent ones) with 91% alcohol and have yet to have the formula dry in my spray bottles or clog the sprayer (I turn the bottle upside down and clear the nozzle before putting them away and it seems to work). I also have used pearl ex successfully with the acrylic paint if I want more shimmer) tx :)

    I've found that storing my bottles on their sides also helps to keep the sprayer from clogging :)
