This is a tip I learned a long time ago when using sprays. 2 or 3 copper bb's in the bottle. You can buy a big plastic jar of them at WalMart. They mix the spray like the cans of spray paint to keep from clogging or mixture from separating and settling to the bottom.
I never would have thought to mix some sephia in with the purple...its sooo pretty
Gorgeous egg plant color. . Love it. . 😎 😎 😎
I'm so excited!! I went to hobby lobby and got my supplies and now I'm ready to play!
I cant wait to get some and try. I have to say I love your videos even though I am just now getting to watch them but you have awesome ideas and helping me with a place to start. You are blessing to me.
If you can find a lime green with a warm under colour then it can be used to darken down purples. Greens are a red spectrum subtraction, so different dyes can add notches to the spectrum which will be most visible as a colour removal on a saturated complimentary. A lab grade spectrometer can be useful for paint mixing.
You inspired me to make my own spray bottle India inks. I got my bottles at Micheals, and some more on Amazon (I bought out Micheals and they haven't gotten any more yet). I got my India Inks on Amazon, too. I didn't put as much ink in mine and they work for me so I'm good there but I may try to add more and see what effect I get. Thank you!! I love 'em.
+pdh8447 I have to say that the india ink spray is one of my most favorite things to use in my art journal! Glad you gave it a try! Jennifer
Fabulous! I've always wanted to try mixing my own colors but since I'm not the exceptional artist you are, I was lost concerning the type of materials needed and very intimidated; until I watched your tutorial. After seeing the beautiful colors you made; I'm off to the craft store to find the Bombay inks and give it a try! TFS!
blubonnettx Thank you so much! You will love all the versatility these inks will give you! Jennifer xoxo

I love your art....I have a question. I have acrylic ink sprays I purchased at Hobby Lobby. Will they behave the same? I love the results you get with india ink. Thank you for sharing. I am new to this medium.
Joan Brantome Thank You Joan! I think Acrylic would be extremely similar to the ink spray. They of course are not the same but I say use what you have! Jennifer XOXO

India ink has a resin binder in it so I'm wondering if any of your spray bottle nozzles have clogged?
Rosie P Hi Rosie, The only one I have had clogged is the white. I have found if I clean the sprayer off before I store it away I dont have that problem! Jennifer XOXO
jen of eve designs thank you for getting back to me on this, I'll be picking up some india ink now!
Very helpful tip. Thanks!
Thank you ! Jennifer
Have you tried the DR Martin with alcohol?
thats a really nice egg plant purple, the colours are so good mixed. ty for a great video can u ever add anything to the bottles to do a sparkly mix ????.Pauline x
You can add some gold or silver mica powder (loose eyeshadow from the discount stores) to make glimmer mists.
really , i will have to try it out, wont it get clogged in the spray mist ???
danine56 It is so beautiful in person! You can use anything sparkly as long as it is super super fine so that it does not clog the sprayer. I have used perfect pearls before and it worked great! Jennifer xoxo
danine56 No it will work great!
Yep perfect pears or pearl ex is great! We have a brand of makeup called BYS here in Australia and they make a super fine shimmer powder that I use, but is limited in colours. So I use the pearl ex as well. Have fun and experiment!!!!
can you use these with alcohol too beside water? to make alcohol inks?
I don't see why not.
I love your videos. This. Was a great one. I am interested in playing with some art/mixed media journals. I'm going to check out hobby lobby tomorrow for India ink.. I am also a great fan of Amazon.com. Thank you so much for sharing. Your purples are lovely.
dianne vescovo Thank you Dianne! I have a hard time not using purple!!!LOL! My Favorite!!! Jennifer XOXO
Are these waterproof/resistant when dry? Can you go over them with other wet mediums without the color smearing?
+Shelley Cromwell Once dry they are permanent!
I use my spent printer cartridges and squeeze them out into a sprayer but use 70% alcohol with a drop of soap in it. Usually there’s tons of ink left in ink jet cartridges cus all the modern ones use microchips that count the number of prints instead of the level of ink. Even if not, you can get a set of old CMYK ones on amazon for like a dollar each.
Thanks for sharing.
Jen u are a genius :-) so cool and creative tfs
Veronica Arias Thank You Veronica! You are so sweet! Jennifer XOXO

Can you spray this on an envelope and address it with fountain pen ink after the spray ink dries?
+TheTarotGirl I am not super sure! If you try it let me know how it works out! Jennifer
it works as long as the spray is dry

Hi Jen - what size dropper do you use for your little Bombay bottles? And what size bottles do you use? I've watched your video's many, many times and I love them! You're fun and make it sound so easy! thanks for sharing your great idea's :):):)
+Maeve Garcia Thank you so much Maeve! I bought those dropper and bottles about 10 years ago so I have no idea what size. They just happened to fit the Bombay bottles lol! Jennifer XOXO

Where can i by these main inks to make my own spray inks????
I bought mine on Amazon. If you have a hobby lobby near you using their coupon you can save money.
I am so thankful to you.................God bless....
ould post a video , to learn how to use these inks ?
Lalita Solomon I have not used them much yet. I myself am watching videos on them. There are a few videos on them. They can be used like water colors. Used with dip pens because of course they are ink. And one lady I believe Cathand is her TH-cam, shows how to use them with alcohol for special effect.
There is always ALWAYS room for more purple! 😀😉
Making them right now! Thanks!
Have fun with them! They are addictive! Jennifer
Gracias por compartir los colores son muy lindos
Blancaj Hernández Thank you so very much! The colors are stunning in real life! Jennifer xoxo

Try a dab of black in that eggplant mixture
where did you get your eye droppers?
I purchased them over 10 years ago! I don't really remember! I bet you can just google it and will find all kinds of places to get them! Jennifer
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Thank you very much.
+Yvonne Leehelen Dowell You are welcome very much!!! Jennifer XOXO
I make my own glitter spray with alchol & dollar store eyeshadow. It works great. Found some eye shadow that was loose it a little pot, so I can make it with a lot of glimmer or a little. FUN!!
Hugs, Linda :
Great idea!! Will give it a try! Jennifer
thank you so much!
Good info
Thank you Laura! Jennifer
Tim Holz's site has this notice about ink sprays - what do you think about this? Is this safe?
Note: Ranger does not recommend using Adirondack Alcohol Inks, Metallic Mixatives, Snow Cap Mixative or Alcohol Ink Blending Solution in spray bottles as these contents contain alcohol and should not be airborne.
Nick Doe I really think anything that is sprayed should be used with care. You should use your own judgment based on which product you are using to make spray inks. Let me know if you find any more info on it! Jennifer
Thumbs up, Subscribe? Dang, you get those just for that "ridiculously adorable Accent"!
Seriously though, Nice Tutorial and good product information (although I think it may be hard to find that 'pray' bottle :P). Oddly it appears to me that the inks are beautifully opaque and also bright at the same time and I'm certainly digging that... I'll definitely be making one set with distilled H20 and another with Rubbing Alcohol for some mixed media projects in the near future (finding your video was good timing on my part!)
Warm Regards,
Wonderful!! I am glad you liked it! Let me know how yours turns out! Jennifer
TFS
Thanks for sharing your recipe!!
sadiejosiemom It is my pleasure! Jennifer xoxo
Crap! You Tube showed this th-cam.com/video/BcCjD8jRPnQ/w-d-xo.html video suggestion next to yours so I watched it. Now I think I need to consider this method too. When she said it was cake decorating food coloring gel, it made me think of you using the cake decorating tips with the modeling paste...
luxurycardstore I havent tried that method with the food coloring but maybe one day I will! Jennifer xoxo
I make my own too
Love your tutorials! I want some of those India Inks, but after watching this video th-cam.com/video/uN9gNfE7WUU/w-d-xo.html I also want the Marion Smith Designs Color Lab Paint Kit. I guess now I need to decide which one or if I should get both...
luxurycardstore Thank you so much! I love Marion Smiths stuff but I have to confess I have not tried her Color Lab yet! Jennifer xoxo
Ha ha! Your description said "pray bottles". Oh, dear! Religion is being discussed?! ;-)
Hello , it is the acrylic ink ? Thank you , i'm french :)
+Fayy16Chat No it is India Ink, mostly used for calligraphy. Jennifer
