  • There are over 15,000 licensed radio stations in the United States (not counting the low power FM ones) and many of those also stream their content through the internet. There are countless more stations in the rest of the world that do so as well. Dan wants to know which is your favorite, and also, maybe, who is your favorite DJ. You might be surprised by the answers his band mates provide.

Dan…great call out to WPRB. Tough to pick 5 shows.. I would have gone for 6 and included Jen “ running red lights” on fridays from 3 to 5..
A few weeks ago she played 2 hours of BUZZCOCKS covers..bouncing off the walls entire time.
You should try streaming and join the listener chat
Already thinking about Jon S Chanukah show coming up this Wednesday and the Christmas show in a few weeks
“ I hate what they’ve done to XPN , a bunch of folk nazis ruined my favorite station “
    Great show

WIDR. “We play the WIDeR variety of music.” The student station at WMU. They played/play everything that wasn’t corporate. I first heard you guys on WIDR, and Husker & Sonic Youth, Surfers, Minutemen, Tosh. Followed by WDET… well until they made it just an NPR outlet.

Twilight Zone episode "The Last Rites of Jeff Mertylbank" mentions haints. Also an interesting band goes by the name "The Pinehill Haints " kind of a bluegrass/punk sound and they use a washtub bass and washboard and musical saw.

I remember Drexel's station WKDU dropping a promo from you guys sometime in the 90's and then played Two Feet Off the Ground. I used to listen to them sometimes in college, but when I went away and came back in 2001 it was all 247 Black Metal and Dancehall on the Weekends.

Cool episode. I watched the Blasphemous story of XTC recently. I like when it said they had trouble selling their weird Britishness to the British 🤓🇬🇧

College radio! Best heard early in a semester, when new voices want to show off how obscure their tastes are.

There was nothing more demoralizing than when I spent my late college years interning at a commercial radio station. Once I saw how the sausage was made, I swore off of it and stuck to college/web radio. Sadly, now even most of the college radio has been ruined.

I was so excited to get on the college radio station at the beginning of my freshman year, until I went to the first meeting and heard the horror story of the rogue DJ who played the intro to Bitchin’ Camaro

Good song. Sounds a little like the Night Begins to Shine. Which, of course, is the best song ever.

Just outside DC, we had 99.1 HFS. Damn it was cool. Then they sold out. And then they sold out again.
We also had/have DC101 that got a callout in Fishbones ? (Modern Industry).

BEST EPISODE EVER!!! Rodney gets a chair, and a cup of coffee! I had Rodney on my cthulhu themed podcast a billion years ago, it was like that episode of Community when Troy met LeVar Burton, or Chris Farley talking to Paul McCartney. My fav Radio stations(1978-1993) were 970"The Beat", late 60's-early 90's "Alternative radio", Kink FM 102 Adult Contemporary(mostly Steely Doobie Scags radio), and KGON Classic Rock had a prog/psychedelic playlist on the weekend afternoon that I listened to while I dug ditches/worked as a roofer/drove trucks/paid off dump owners/ enforced payments from customers(age 12-17). I Grew up in the Portland Media Market in the late 70-early 90s I realized all the bands I really liked were either bands I heard about at live shows, or at bars I went to in during culinary school. I also love any radio station that played Doctor Demento, where I heard Rodney ask Joe, "What's Happenin'" and it's been all downhill from there. I quit listening to radio in '94, it just felt like a corpo death cult, and began looking for the sources and references from music I like(Ex: Dead Milkmen mention Brian Eno, or make fun of Billy Joel). My BFF always listened to the 50-60s station in the car, so I know a ton of songs I don't really like and always make parody songs of.
For reasons that are really hard to explain... Dead Milkmen also got me into graphic design/3d printing, engineering, specifically Stoney's Extra Stout Pig, Not Richard..., Soul Rotation, and Bucky Fellini. My fav album is Beelzebubba, and my fav song is still Sri Lanka Sex Hotel. That and Beach Party Vietnam are my fave to play on guitar and bass. I think you are all awesome, love the new stuff.

Long time watcher, first time poster. Two questions about Punk Rock Girl. 1. If my memory serves me correctly after 35 years, the PRG in the video was Miriam from God’s Crotch? Any insight in the use of the song in the pilot episode of Raising Hope? I love that show and having you guys be a part of it made it that much (dare I say) cooler!

Haven't listened to the radio for years though my wife sometimes plays Smooth Radio while making the tea. They seem to play the same songs at the same time every day so you could set your clock to "She's Like The Wind" by Patrick Swayze. The only new songs they play are from popular TV commercials.
