Not Richard, But Dick (full album playlist)

Thanks, guys! I love these 'Tales from the Album' videos, and I especially love when Dandrew talks about what the albums mean to him.
NRBD was the soundtrack to many long, lonely solo drives between Delaware and Syracuse/ Utica NY in 2012-2014, and it's one of my favorite DM albums. Thanks for creating it.
Happy new year, folks. I hope everyone has a healthy, warm, and happy 2024, filled with curiosity, creativity, belly laughs and goofy adventures with the people you dig. ❤️
this album has The Woman Who Was Also A Mongoose, which is honestly one of my favorites from you guys.
Cheers from Fresno, CA
It's one of my favorites too. You should be proud Rodney.
Cheers (not from Fresno, CA)
Same here. It's genually a beautiful song.
I adore this album! We sang “Woman Who Was Also A Mongoose” to our daughter every night before bed for years.
So many great songs on such an underrated album.
Thanks for the recommendations Rodney. I started a Playlist called "Rodney's Reccs" where I compile all the songs and albums you recommendation. Great Playlist so far! Keep 'em coming! 😊
To this very day my sister will randomly outburst "It must be a boy cuz it's turning blue". Both albums deserve reissues dammit!😃 Happy New year to all!
Not Richard, but Dick is fucking amazing! I love that album. Nowhere near hot garbage. It’s chill af. The naked ‘here is the inside of my mind’ feeling through out is fucking beautiful. And the flute too. Sometimes I’ll skip Little Volcano. Also, I Started To Hate You. But that skip is very mood and circumstance. Don’t mean I don’t love it though. You all are amazing and thank you for everything you’ve done. My life is definitely better with your music in it. Love you
not crazy and the woman who was also a mongoose are some of my favorites
Coming from me this won't be a surprise, but I love this album quite a lot.
Regarding the baby crying sound that Rodney mentioned: I used the same audio clip in a song I wrote in the early or mid-90's. I got it from a generic sound effects compilation tape / CD. It wasn't until years after I got Not Richard, But Dick that I realized we had used the same baby crying sound.
Great stories about one of my favorite albums of all time.
Not Richard But Dick is my favorite Dead Milkmen record. Glad to hear some of the story of it. I always wondered how it came about.
Thanks again for the music, you keep me normal.
Joe's very stylish in his cozy wearable blanket. It's a shame that an "I Dream Of Jesus" video couldn't come to fruition! Would have loved to hear more of the others' individual song memories, though Rodney's were great! In particular, nary a mention of "Jason's Head," a fav of mine.
There's a guy who goes by "ThePlaceholderShow" on YT, and he made a freakin' hilarious video for I Dream of Jesus (and also one for Stuart). I nominate it to be the official video. 😁
And yeah! No love for Jason's Head? I love that song!
Jason's Head was catchy as hell!
I remember that flute from h.r. puffinstuff..and huggy bear.
Get of my lawn!!!
Hope you feel better Rodney.
Happy 2024
I saw the "Dick is Coming" tour, 1994 at the Antenna, Memphis Tn.
I just turned 19. I still have the flyer for the gig.
Remember that shirt as well. Saw them in Detroit that tour. What a great album.
Hello Milkmen. I love this album. I need to get one of those cozy wearable blankets Joe is wearing. Suffering through round 2 of COVID thanks to a family member who showed up at Christmas still contagious.
Avoid family at all cost haha. Rodney,I feel your pain. I'm hacking along with you watching this. Hope your feeling better
I hope you're feeling better soon!
@@JillKnapp Hey Jill, I'm on the mend. Feeling much better than I was. Happy New Year. Hopefully Rodney's doing better now.
Not Richard is one of my fav albums! I used to have the Dick Is Coming t shirt in high school I miss it
Word on the street is that some of us old people got the Huggy Bear reference. Many years ago there was a graham cracker snack for kids called HUGGY BEARS. I would tell anybody who would listen that they were named after the pimp on Starsky and Hutch
Great album cover, Dean
Ah first year of college at Tyler, bought it on cassette (one of my last cassette purchases before switching to CDs) from a small record shop in Elkins Park, they were playing Valley Girl on a TV they had in the upper corner of the shop. I knew a girl from Bryn Mawr that either knew Dean or worked with him at the bookstore. (maybe both?)
Wild to me that Rodney doesn't like this record. It's one of my all time favorite Dead Milkmen albums.
I pictured that drawing as being Rodney. Because I find Rodney and the drawing both really funny. Great job Dean, it needed to be the LP cover, it's hilarious 🤣
Thanks @mrclean111111 for addressing the origins of the album title. This was something that always intrigued me. I've edited the Wikipedia article for the album to reflect what you've said.
I love this album!
No. Rodney is wrong. It’s a good album. Most definitely, underrated.
16:25 Oh man, Rodney! I absolutely would spend the cash If y’all released this on vinyl. Maybe even more if it were on color splatter vinyl!! NRBD became the soundtrack to my later years in college and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Best album.
Joe looking like Kid Rock making his entrance for Woodstock 99 with that wearable blanket😆
I loved this when it came out. Favorite track . The woman who was also a mongoose
Can ya'll release it on 8 Track?
surprised to hear the band considsers this an unsuccessfull album. as a 1987 skateboarding convert this one felt like a perfect comeback.
NRBD is a Top 3 Milkmen album for me. Solid from top to bottom. Top track being "Jason's Head". I'll gladly fork over $50 for a One-Step AAA 45 RPM 2 record release mastered by Bernie Grundman on MOFI !
Same here.
NRBD was the only album that I bought back in the day. I met this crazy punk dude who bootlegged most of TDM albums for me. I didn't get into the band until around 92 or 93, but one day I was at the music store and saw this gem. I bougt it, and brought it back to my friend and he hadn't heard of it, so I was able to make a bootleg for HIM! I still love this album.
We miss ya, Milkmen. I just heard about Mojo Nixon. And I'm still processing Wayne Kramer! Hoping you guys are well!
Great album! I have a memory of Dean saying years ago that it was supposed to be marketed as an EP.
Could you guys talk about your shows at the Laurel Hill Cemetery? How did they come about? Are there any plans for playing there (or other cemeteries) in the future? I’ve been to two of them (2016 and 2019) and loved the atmosphere.
That album was always my favorite album title.
any digital source for NOW WE'RE TEN out there?
There were some great and memorable tunes on this one - it's thoroughly listenable all the way through. Let's Get the Baby High is as hilarious as it is ridiculous and cring-inducing. Some very strong melodies on these tunes and the band sounds as buoyant as ever! Joe posted the demos on his site a while back, which provided some nice bonus tracks. The album cover and title were fun too. The only problem was how fast this went out of print! I used to play the CD on my college radio show!
Sleestak Disco
NRBD has the best DM song on it, of all time. One of the best songs of any band of all time, actually. The Woman Who Was Also a Mongoose is an anthem with my family. Rodney is being too hard on the album.
Not richard is great! please release the tracks that got cut!!! Also, please put out a vinyl version!
The demos of the unreleased songs are on Joe's site, including the ones listed here, except for "Song with No Name" and "This Is."
Thank you!
It's not my favorite DM album, but it's certainly the one I think about the most out of all the pre-haitus albums
think this is a great album! cheers!
If you were to ask me what the best Dead Milkmen album was I’d have to ask you what qualities you like the most about DM good and short scrappy punk songs with humor or the later more composed well written stuff. As far as actual song writing I feel that Not Richard, But Dick is more accomplished and skilled. Leggo My Ego is a super well written song. Or is the best album Big Lizard or Beelzebubba for being patently Dead Milkmen? No one knows. That’s why you should listen to Metaphysical Graffiti everyday because I would argue its a blend of both worlds!
Always liked this album and some really good songs though could have done with a few more. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Brian Eno story.
What's the Brian Eno story??
@@AppleOno Apparently The Dead Milkmen know the guitarist who is now in The Cure. He was working previously with David Bowie and Brian Eno and played "Leggo My Ego" to Brian Eno. I think they talk about in an episode of Big Questions.
@@jonathandouglas2748No kidding, did Eno have an opinion one way or another? I like that song but for Eno would probably choose something different, maybe Smoking Banana Peels or Dean's Dream?
@@AppleOno I think he liked it. It's discussed in Episode 93 - "Someone Else For A Day". Brian Eno would probably like "Instant Club Hit".
Mojo Nixon and Cave Dogs! I saw that lineup in 1990 at age 18. But sadly not seen you guys since then. Have you ever played with MDC? I'm getting way into them 🤘💥✌️🕊️⚖️🏳️🌈
So, the question I have always wanted to know the answer to is: WHY DO YOU THANK THE CHIEFTAINS IN THE LINER NOTES???????
My pick for best song on Not Richard... :"I Dream Of Jesus". 28 minutes was really short for an album in 1993; the only LP I can think of that was shorter was the Count Five's Psychotic Reaction (1966).
Group Sex is about 15 minutes.
I thought Einhorn’s girlfriend was in his closet in a trunk…?
#ReleaseTheVinyl
My favorite Dead Milkmen album, but no, I do not want it on vinyl.
i'm sorry, did you say "pussybro" group?
FOR THE LONGEST TIME WE THOUGHT SHE COULD ONLY SAY 2 WORDS WHICH WERE DOG AND PUSSY. WE THOUGHT THAT MEANT DOG AND CAT, BUT THEN WE FOUND OUT WHAT SHE WAS REALLY TRYING TO SAY WAS DOG-PUSSY; ONE BIG HYPENATED WORD.
This album is bad? Total nonsense. This is one of your best albums! You kidding me? Fucking haters! 🤣
