Moby is probably the most likable artist around, he's down to earth, cool knowledgeable guy.. always a pleasure to watch his interviews!
Actually he is a liberal douche.
Don't let him fool you. He is an annoying, pretentious douche bag. And his music sucks.
follow his facebook page, guy is an asshole
Ask Natalie Portman about that...
I thought he was alright, I don't follow people on social media and such, but honestly his recent tattoos have made me realize maybe he's a little weirder than I thought. Haha. It's his body, sure, but really off-putting as a casual fan. Play is still a great album though. 👌 and he has good music recommendations.
Moby did not disappoint. I also like how the video was edited so we get to hear the solo in the Bad Brains track that he's talking about. Thanks Amoeba!
Glad you dig it. Thanks for watching!
He actually covered a Bad Brains song “Sailin’ On” in 1999, that is a stunning, beautiful, atmospheric, melancholic song.
I love that scene in American Graffiti when Toad is opening beers to give to Debbie while the radio is playing in the background "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Flamingos.
That was the song me and my wife chose to dance to at our wedding reception.
"Let me have a 3 musketeers, and a ball point pen, one of those combs there, a pintofoldharper, ah a couple of flashlight batteries and some beef jerky."
One of his biggest selling albums was "Play." You may actually know some of the songs on that album and not realize it's him, as every song on the album was licensed for commercial use.
It's amazing how many people in this series buy the Bad Brains CD or LP because they used to have it on cassette. Kudos to Moby for admitting he is a Yes fan.
he's the brain! very intellectual and intelligent person. great taste and erudition, really good picks.
this was great. I love his description of the flamingos
i have never listened to moby but he showed in this video that he has major appreciation for some of my favorite bands, gonna have to check his music out
And I thought I was the only Bad Brains fan in the world who still loves "Close To The Edge" by Yes. I had no idea Moby was such a cool guy with impeccable taste. :)
yeah me to bro
Gunston Lake I believe he began in a punk band...
Yup,
You are not alone!
I love Yes too! Going to see and meet them in June!
Best series on youtube, by far. Thanks amoeba, keep them coming
OMG I love Moby, he was my first concert ever and it was the best until now! unforgetable
The Buzzcocks/Husker Dü comparison is actually spot on and it never actually occurred to me until Moby said it.
It's funny, rock musicians buy mainly electronic/dance music, and electronic/dance musicians, buy rock/blues...He's spot on about "I only have eyes for you", totally narcotic sounding.
+Fer Abra It doesn't sound like work. Like Moby isn't hearing just a guy playing with filters and the rockers aren't hearing a dude make a rock song, they're hearing the music.
This video introduced me to X. I am forever grateful
+desmul great band!
amazing installment thank you aeomeba & thank you thank you moby!
Moby! This mans music helped me through grad school, right up to the day i dropped out.
Moby with the Agnostic Front shirt on fuck yeh!!!!!
He does a song on a Bad Brains tribute album.
He was a member of flipper too according to the American Hardcore doc
love that he's sporting an Agnostic Front shirt!
Yes is imo the greatest rock act of all time
Love his haircut.
that Buzzcocks singles collection is fantastic
The part where they showed the YES keyboard solo made me laugh... orange juice came out my nose. But, it WAS funny.
Wakeman Wakemaning
On point about Bad Brains and The Flamingos.
This is one of the best ones!!!
Man this guy loves and knows his music.
Moby is one of the most relevant people is music today just like David Bowie and Bjork
Good taste
sick sick picks and man his agnostic front tshirt!!!
Whoa. Did not expect Yes after those first two picks. Diverse taste is the best taste.
well done. i knew i would enjoy this one.
Love that he picked up a Bad Brains cd. He seems like a cool person. Reminds me of Billy Corgan, the way he talks about music and stuff.
Love his picks, eclectic....intelligent man. Great interpretations of engineering of tracks.
Great picks all around.
i knew he started out in the punk scene but that was pretty awesome. Great selection.
I love this man as he sees the world, his vision of life
Nardwar interviewing this guy = 1 hour epic interview.
we need nardwuar to read this
I'd love to see Nardwuar on this show.
I enjoyed listening to Moby
Bad Brains first album (cassette) is the best hc record of all time. F++* yeah! That's what I've always thought. Moby's knowledge about music is really fascinating.
Love u Moby.
yes!! Bad Brains!!!
+Anthony Gargiso Like the man said best fucking Hardcore punk album . I FUCKING LOVE THEM
It's "The Perfect Life" from Moby's latest album "Innocents" and features Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips on vocals.
Moby you are a philosopher!!!... GO...
I'm in love with him
Good stuff!
The original image of Blind Willie Johnson was incorrect. Some of the folks here pointed it out, so we re-uploaded it with the correct image.
0:58 the intermission on *Chili Peppers "Good Times Boys"* ('Mother's Milk' RHCP LP).
This man needs his own show
"The best hardcore album ever made". Never were truer words spoken.
Yes is awesome playing live. Ba-lee-dat!
Great picks
I was at that Yes show
no wonder there are so many blues samples on play...
I strongly disagree!
From Yes to The Flamingos... awesome
Moby and American Blues and 50's music that's awesome
Is he wearing a Agnostic Front shirt? How awesome is that
Jelle Postma He used to make punk music before he started doing his electronic thing.
Yes.
He was in The Vatican Commandos. It was a Connecticut hardcore band
Bad ass
Dude check out the “One Life One Chance” podcast with Toby Morris! Moby was around in the early days of Hardcore!
Yes is awesome!
i'm just glad no obscure jazz music was involved
the flamingos - i only have eyes for you is the tune the fugees sample on zealots! both are awesome!
I'm not very familiar with his music but I feel like I can listen to him talk forever. Now I'm curious...
Couldn’t agree more with his assessment of “I only have eyes for you”. I feel kinda dopey and subdued when I listen to that song. Kinda psychedelic, too.
Underwater in a methadone clinic is such a perfect description of that 50s super reverb pop stuff.
I like PunkyMoby !
His comment about how husker du and buzzcocks are similar is so spot on.
Everyone shits on Moby but he is a music licensing genius!!!
cant really fuck with moby's music but he seems like a sick dood
Damn, I could hang out with him for hours, while we play our records to each other and discuss the music...
great interview and great taste from moby, aside from YES, lol
They're about to put out a surround sound version of Yes' Close to the Edge with a bunch of a bonus stuff that wasn't on the Rhino reissue so that should be pretty cool.
I can hear him talk all day
imho Moby is one of the most talented musicians alive. true artist.
Man I'd LOVE to sit down with Moby & just have a conversation about anything, preferably music.
I remember Dave Ghrol of Foo Fighters/Nirvana saying that the best Punk Rock show he had ever been to was a Bad Brains show in D.C.
i want that NON shirt!
Great taste
Pretty crap taste to be honest, I mean ice cream yum, sweets again that shit is tasty. But music tastes like shit! I dunno how many CD's or Vinyls you have consumed but I can tell you now, it is everything but great tasting
CentrifugeProduction, I don't eat them for their taste or nutritional value. I eat them so I may absorb their power.
also after play check out "I Like to Move in Here". good classic house track
Moby my king
So THAT'S where that Fugees sample comes from!
Hey! Do I know you?
1Superchops No.
I deeply agree on the brains. best hc record ever...and I do not skip the reggae songs.
Gotta love moby wearing an Agnostic Front t shirt
wow he likes yes, and the best era i might add
Whoa! What's Moby got against vinyl ? Bad Brains!!! YAY!!!
@ Jesusjuicerful - the song at 0:49 is "White Girl" by X
X!
he needs to have a studio tour... wondering how he's storing his gear these days.
Can someone explain the constant Moby hate? I've never understood it. I grew up with early Moby albums hidden in my dad's music library and playing it when he was out. Kind of how I found out about all the music I listen to now. I've always loved his style, although his early songs can kind of wash themselves out with how much goes on. He seems intelligent and nice enough, is there something I've been missing all these years?
Because people are dicks
It's the internet mate! It's a magnet for haters!
Eminem dissed him and the stans started dissing him.
It’s essentially a Nickelback thing.
Is he wearing an Agnostic Front shirt? Badass!
Awesome choices. I used to age reproductions of classic posters as well.
agnostic front t-shirt?
@2:38 that is American Mozart. Once of the best American songs ever produced
Awesome... because that is uncanny. If anyone asks me about music recording or production. I say go and listen to the flamingoes 'i only have eyes for you'. Sonic perfection.
I love it when people say stuff like "because I'm old", and I'm 10 years older than they are...
Moby knows his stuff
What an obscure choice for "Most well know L.A. band" by Moby.
Nationally there are only a handful of people who ever heard of Wild Gift.
No one better encapsulates the L.A . "Look and Feel" and "Sound and Vibe" than Van Halen!
I agree with his point about Rick Wakeman. His solos weren't up to scratch often. But try telling HIM that.
ROIR - Reach Out International Records
Can someone list the songs played on this video... Wish they would list the names in d description for all the what's in my bag segments... Really loved many of them and would love to check these songs played.. @amoeba could u do that plz... Would b really cool
We do list all of the albums picked in each episode in the descriptions. The songs played are always from those albums.
Animal Rights is an underrated masterpiece. Love Moby. Thanks.
I love NON!
