    Number 9. Number 9.. Number 9. (love the tip about putting the clearance in your face. I know mine is 9' 10" (solar panels are my high point), but that doesnt mean some mechanic fixing m vehicle knows my clearances. Maybe you should also add th width clewrance below or above your sticker. The last thing I did when my solar install was done was lay a level board out over the solar panels and use a laser measuring tool from the board to the ground... Much easier than your board contraption, but your method might be much cheaper than a buying a very, very useful laser measuring tool (accurate to 1/16" at 120'). (get one on sale when less than $40 if you are building out your van and planning a build, very useful tool.)

    Hi George !
    One thought comes to my ( what’s left ) mind..... this measurement should be done with the van and tanks mostly empty assuring it doesn’t get taller some day. To quote Campervan Kevin “ I’m not saying... I’m jus saying “.

    Hi George, another amazing video! Thanks very much!
    One thought, the van is 9' 9", but you should add space for clearance. After all, your calculation assumes the obstacle measurement is accurate and second that leaves you one inch or less of tolerance.
    My advice, make your lable for 10' to account for all variables and prevent a costly mistake.

    • @HumbleRoad
      @HumbleRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you are correct. But this exercise was to ascertain an accurate number. What each of us does with it is up to the individual. Personally, I would not risk "inches". As one example; suppose there is an overpass marked with a sign that says, "CLEARANCE 9FT 9IN, but they just repaved the road!!! Now that could mean the actual clearance is 9FT 3IN!!!! And they haven't changed the sign!!!

    • @MikeKilo1969
      @MikeKilo1969 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HumbleRoad agreed, there are too many variables to accurately account for. Therefore, knowing your baseline vehicle height is the only known in the "safe passage" equation. Well done, sir. Thank you for the clarification.

    George hilarious yet still very informative and practical. I just turned on an Australian friend to your channel. He watched the running board episode and loved it. He’s going to watch the whole series because he’s hoping to build out his own van soon. I was just wondering how tall the van was. How wide will it be? I’m going to need to research what structure I need to house it once it’s mine! Lol I can dream right? My brothers all have steel carport type shelters for their big class A’s. Thanks again for another great video. Love hippie George at the end, especially the hat.

    After you get the horizontal 2" board level, mark a line on the verticle 2" board. Bring both boards to the ground. Measure from the bottom of the marked board to the mark. Measure from the ground to the paint tray. Do simple math.

    George, I have just run this video by the ambulance chasers at the Dewey, Cheatem and Howe law offices. You should put an addendum mentioning that the measurements you calculated are for your specific van using a (insert your air conditioner model here). Your viewer's results may vary. If a viewer were to add an cellular booster or tv antenna that could change the maximum height as well. As always a stellar tutorial.

    Fastidious, anal or entertaining … pick 2! We just use two devices. 12' ladder, tape measure. Forget all the carpet protecting and wood constructing. Run the tape down as on the video and eyeball it. Who cares if it's off an inch or two? Our AllStays app just tells us low bridges in foot increments. Good idea to have a height label placement at the top of the windshield. BTW, when your tires heat up and the recommended 61psi is exceeded, does this raise the van? Now that's a test we want to see!
