thank you! I only maaged to do a few hours of it (probably shouldn't have tried to do it while sick), but I did get a lot of progress in my draft! ill definitely try again when im not sick if I can find the time@@KateCavanaugh
I watch Great British Baking Show when I bake too! I like to pretend like I'm a contestant lol. Congrats on 7500 words! You should make the prince's fandom name Augustans, you know since they stan him and all. Idk if that's cheesy though lol
Omg I loved this! Can you just do these Write-a-thons all the time?? Please and thank you XD Your editing style for these vlogs are so great and they make me want to write with you! You're kicking so much butt during nano so far (even with needing that break after the writeathon lol). Sidenote: I loved your dad's excitement over the soccer game lol.
DEFINITELY okay! That's a fantastic goal and my personal one this NaNoWriMo too! Just to finish this draft. :) I think the best part of NaNoWriMo is just being part of this amazing community and any words written are words you didn't have before, so I wouldn't get hung up on the 50,000 number !:)
Pop culture references always stuff me up when writing contemporary. Is this even going to be a thing when this book is finally published?!? I love your puppy!!! A book inside a book is such a fun concept. You did crazy good this write in! Your 12k sentence is hilarious.
I did a 12 hr write-a-thon shortly after you posted your 24 hr write-a-thon video. (You inspired me.) I got 6,370 words that day. I did really well for the first seven hours, until I took a dinner break and spent an hour with my husband. After that it was all down hill. I felt like somewhere in that 6-8 hour mark my creative brain hit its limit, and I just couldn't squeeze any more good words out of it. I was still able to write a little more in those last 4 hours, but I did not like most the words I came up with and have changed a lot of them. I have a different writing style than you do. I'm too neurotic to do a zero draft, so it takes me a lot longer to get words out, and I have to be satisfied with them because I can't stop myself from trying to fix them. I know that you aren't supposed to edit as you go, but I just can't help myself. So for me, I feel like a solid 8 hours is my limit. After that, my brain turns to mashed potatoes and I'm useless.
The Great British Bake Off!!! I love that you watch that too :-) :-) It's so addictive hahaha! And Duke! I want to give him scratchies through the screen, he's so sweet and adorable!! I'm so sorry you got sick!! You were literally just saying that!! Hopefully, you can beat it quick. And that cheese bread looks amazing! Where can I get that recipe?! Must. have. these. snacks. I'd probably eat the whole tray lol. It's funny because one of my best friends and I used to make what we called 'cheesy bread' whenever we had a writing/play world of warcraft day, so it gave me the warm fuzzies seeing you make some. Although our was just slicing up french bread, slapping some shredded cheese on it, then baking it until it turned brown and crackly. Yours looks so much healthier hahaha!
You’re doing so awesome!! I’m taking this video as a sign that I should take a 0 word day today lol. I was already considering it but hesitant bc I’m barely caught up slash slightly behind and I didn’t want to get MORE behind. But I think I’ll be able to do a lot of catch up this weekend and my brain just isn’t in it today. So 0 word day it is 😆
I hope you are doing some live write ins this year!! I also just realized that I hadn't subscribed yet I've watched hundreds of your videos. TH-cam keeps recommending them so I figured I had subscribed. Glad I'm subscribed now!
Your write-a-thon vlogs are the best :- ) And it seems very on brand that you continued writing even after the 12 hours were up :- D I like pop culture references, even when they are no longer true - I guess it makes it a bit harder when you reference real events because you have to make sure everything makes sense within the time of the story but as a reader, I really enjoy it :- )
Danielle Steel has been known to work on five books at once, and write for 30 hours a session...with no caffeine. She uses a 1946 Olympia manual typewriter she bought at a second-hand typewriter store. On average she writes 22 hours a day.
Loving this! I worked so hard today to play catchup after scratching one story and starting another, but I'm still nowhere close to where I need to be.
some people write a normal 5k per day. which makes yours seem not as impressive to them but to me your still achieving way beyond what i feel i could ever do....your my favorite channel for writing!
Ahhh Kate! You make it look so fun and easy!!! I did my 24-hour write-a-thon over the weekend and it was so rough. Also, omg Pão de Queijo!!!!! I freaking LOVE that stuff! But I’ve never tried to make it myself. Haha, watch my channel slowly morph into , “Trying to do what I saw Kate do,” 😂
This should be a cautionary tale with you getting sick and burned out... so why am I now wondering what day of the week would be the most convenient to try this myself? Hahaha
Congrats on the write-a-thon!! OH MY GOODNESS YOU ARE AMAZING!!! You are so inspirational lolol I am glad I have finally gotten around to the videos!! I always will btw, you deserve all the love in the world
I was participating in a write-in on Brittney & Books's channel and we were talking about how fun a 24hr write-a-thon would be. I think I might do one soon.
I make great faces while I'm writing! Woo! Girl, you are crushing this Nano! I'm sad that your 12 your writeathon had adverse reactions. I'm going to try a 24 hour one on the 17th. We'll see how that goes hahaha
(I'm super behind on videos, so I might be popping up all over the place in these comments over the next couple of days. Just a head's up 😅) Regarding the thing about your MC asking the reader to skip ahead to read this and this, it's a thing that works! I think I've only ever seen it in An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, but it worked well for me there. Obviously skipping ahead to that point wouldn't work (you wouldn't grasp the story), but style wise I think it really worked. That book is also a fictional memoir, so hey :) And regarding if you can say Disney world or not, I think that's fine. Pretty sure John Green (it really seems like all I read is books by the Green brothers, huh?) mentions Sea World in one of his books (can't remember which). If you want it to be reducted by your MC's fictional editor, though, I totally get that :) (Is any of this making sense? It's after midnight and I'm exhausted)
I don't think I would do great in write-a-thons. I dedicate 3 hours in the morning to writing this month and I find that after 2 hours straight, I slow down considerably. I have the feeling of "running dry" too. I need time to recharge my creative juice. (Or replot my entire novel, which went from 5 parts this morning to 4 right now!) 12706 words with today's work! Yay! A quarter done!
Ok so i'm new to scrivener and i've been wondering ever since i stared watching your videos: HOW DO YOU CENTER THE TEXT BLOCK? With the basic settings it's super stretched out and i HATE it! I'd love to have it just like you with all that space on both sides!
if you dont make the brand appear in a negative light, you can totally mention the brand name in your book. on tv they usually dont bc of advertising contracts with other companies that might potentially be competition to the brand mentioned. but ive read several books (by american authors) that were basically littered with brand names.
My past self is always asking so much of me too-he's awfully lazy! Also, I'm so jealous of your coffee machine! I don't think I would ever leave the house if I had that. 5:45 If there was a suggestion in a book I picked up that said, 'If you're a fan of Augustine, skip to pg.x' I would do that and then have to work out that the book didn't mean St. Augustine, who was quite an awesome theologian by my fan-boy estimation. 6:20 I don't know copyright law very well, but I don't think they can copyright location descriptions or anything like that. From my time working in a publisher, I always remember song lyrics being the most frequent, tricky issue. 18:09 This issue of the right amount of drunk was definitively and usefully answered by Mitchell and Webb: th-cam.com/video/lIv96reVlAE/w-d-xo.html The new Sabrina is great!
Still new and am going to ask a question that Google wasn't able to really explain well enough for me to understand. What is Nanowrimo? Sounds like an awesome name for a sporting or music event.
From what research I have found you can mention specific places such as Disneyland or Disney world and even have them go there as long as your not making libal comments about it or stating like ownership of the place
THANKYOUSOMUCH! Yes, on the next revision, I'll be mentioned Disney by name and then if/when I publish it, someone else who knows the laws better can correct it for me bahaha. :)
Bahahah yes! It's a very interesting, very different experience from most novels that I've written. The pacing and story-telling elements are different, but the main character IS writing a book...and the book that I'm writing is her writing the book.....it's only confusing sometimes haha.
This is seriously my favorite channel right now. You are so positive without being preachy and I’m obsessed with u thanks
Same💕
Shayna Lloyd same here
starting a twelve hour write-a-thon today, with a goal of 10k.watching this video really helped to motivate me!
AHHHH GOOD LUCK! Let me know how it went, I'm so curious!
thank you! I only maaged to do a few hours of it (probably shouldn't have tried to do it while sick), but I did get a lot of progress in my draft! ill definitely try again when im not sick if I can find the time@@KateCavanaugh
anyone else just binge nanowrimo vids but never ever did nanowrimo
if you have that time in your life then i applaud you

Hi. So since it’s my first NANOWRIMO my goal isn’t to be with 50,000 words. My goal is to just finish my novel. Is that ok?
DEFINITELY okay! That's a fantastic goal and my personal one this NaNoWriMo too! Just to finish this draft. :) I think the best part of NaNoWriMo is just being part of this amazing community and any words written are words you didn't have before, so I wouldn't get hung up on the 50,000 number !:)

Solid effort! But remember to look after yourself

I forgot to mention that she paid $20 for the typewriter and has used it to write all of her 179+ books.
I hit 10,000 today! I also finished my goal in a little more than two hours.
This was fun :-) I might try a write-a-thon myself but will have to wait until my kids are with their grandparents 😆
Loving this! I worked so hard today to play catchup after scratching one story and starting another, but I'm still nowhere close to where I need to be.

I think you should be okay with Disney. Corey Doctorow has a book set in Disney World called Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom.
OOOH THANK YOU! :) Good to know.
I love your vlogs, you were hilarious making that cheesy bread. 10k words you're doing brilliantly! I'm truly inspired :)
Wooooow Congrats on your successful write-a-thon!
This should be a cautionary tale with you getting sick and burned out... so why am I now wondering what day of the week would be the most convenient to try this myself? Hahaha
Love these vlogs!!! I am gonna try this tomorrow- 8am to 8pm I’ll let u know how it went!!! ❤️

Lol I remember the Swedish Fish from the livestream.
God I love your videos. XD
Keep them coming and may the madness continue!
I want to do a 12 hour or 24 hour write a thon but I don't have time to block out that much time :(
Your videos are so inspirational!
What’s your friend’s name whose stream you were watching? I couldn’t quite make it out
becca
You and your family watch Premiership football??? Mad respect lol x

ooohhhh 12hour write in sounds like a good idea i should do that at some point this month hahah

Yes, I'm planning to do a 12-hour write-a-thon in the new year!
WOOHOO GOOD LUCK!
What!!?? Wow! Do you eat, drink anything... go pee?? Lol
Hahahah seriously! It feels so intense. But yes, if anything, I'm away from my computer more than I "should" be for the challenge bahahah. :)

Come to Brazil to eat "Pão de queijo" (cheese bread)! Hahaha

The new Sabrina is great!
Since I'm a small publisher, I could do a lot of the more fun, quirky ideas in any books I put out: Inimitable Books, LLC :)
You did great!
THANK YOU!
Still new and am going to ask a question that Google wasn't able to really explain well enough for me to understand. What is Nanowrimo? Sounds like an awesome name for a sporting or music event.
It stands for NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth, which is where you try to write a 50,000 word novel in one month
BTW im binging your NANO videos from last year #sorrynotsorry
So the writing program you used, is that a MacBook program or something you downloaded?
scrivener is for windows and mac. it costs $45
I'm confused. Are you writing a book about a girl who writes a book?
Bahahah yes! It's a very interesting, very different experience from most novels that I've written. The pacing and story-telling elements are different, but the main character IS writing a book...and the book that I'm writing is her writing the book.....it's only confusing sometimes haha.
@@KateCavanaugh It sounds fun. So she's writing a book and the story becomes real?
