- John Karlen is a fan favorite and is at his best playing Carl Collins. We first see him as a jokester and then with his fiancé Pansy Faye. Pansy dies but comes back to Carl in a dream sharing some startling information with Carl.

This episode was the turning point for Barnabas and Quentin where they truly became friends. Quentin realized why Barnabas was willing to help him escape his curse. Even Barnabas said it might be a new beginning.
Dark Shadows : Some of the best actors ever. Great show. Never get tired of watching it.
Quentin making the connection is one of my favorite scenes in this whole series
Great episode. John Karlen will be missed on the show . He returns months later in 1970 as Willie. Carl's death changes everything as Barnabas becomes the fugitive. Jerry Lacy does a great job here.
I loved Dark Shadows, since! Iw/ a teenager! N I still, love watching, Dark Shadows! i/m 69 yes old now! So interesting, , Suspense n Drama! It w/ keep us interested in it! I love all the cast! 💗👌!
I was even scared of the opening music as a kid. Loved it ...this show scared the creepers out of me but couldn't wait to watch it .lol
I miss dark shadows
The 1890's story line was great! Grayson Hall and Thayer David as gypsies. And a half-crazed Carl Collins---perfectly played by John Karlen. And Trask was a truly evil villain!
That was just the beginning!
Jerry Lacy was great in his roles.
Magda is my favorite character from the 1897 storyline ❤❤❤
John Karlen was my favorite of them all.
Nobody does frenzied crazy like John Karlen. And the look on Trask's face when no coffin was to be seen! I shouldn't say this but I was laughing so much. How many things can there be going against Carl? His hours seem to be numbered.
I absolutely loved Jerry Lacy as Reverend Trask, Tony Peterson and every other character he played on Dark Shadows.
Wonderful show.
From what Google claims Dark shadows was and still is the only gothic soap opera ever to aire in the world. That's pretty darn awesome.
@@unicornmadness6286 Look up _Strange Paradise._ It was a Canadian-made gothic/occult soap opera, inspired by the success of _Dark Shadows_ in the States. At some point, DS producer Robert Costello left _Dark Shadows_ to work on _Strange Paradise,_ and was eventually joined by a former DS writer. IMO, it was vastly inferior to DS…but still a somewhat interesting curiosity. It only lasted for two seasons.
He's one of the best actors on this show,
One of the best Quentin lines. Judith is dreaming about her money, and so is Edward.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The slap was 10/10 😂 Loved it.
Oooo, Magda, you put that eye on Trask! I look forward to finding out what your words to him mean in that closing scene!
"I'm not crazy! I'M NOT!!! I'M NOT"!!!!!!😂
Instead of having a detached extra garage on my property or an ordinary garden shed I want a building made out of granite with a secret room with a passcode pad on the inside and outside. The lions head with the ring in its mouth would just be for looks. Be the perfect place to store valuables. Better than a Derrels Mini Storage. The front outer room with a garage size door to store a classic older restored automobile.
the radio in the foyer was there before radio was invented.
Good old Quentin! He doesn't wish to kill Barnabas because Quentin knows that his "cousin" Barnabas is trying to help him. It was mean of Quentin to leave Carl inside the secret room. On the other hand, Carl is a danger to dear old Barnabas, and we don't want Barnabas destroyed, do we? As the Reverend says, Carl IS unusually high strung, isn't he? Tsk, tsk, tsk! Dear, oh dear. Poor Carl. Trask is trying to trap and kill Barnabas, but our vampire has a trick up his sleeve, and his coffin hidden in the secret room! We don't like Trask, do we? I sure don't like Trask!

I was so worried for Barnabas when I watched this as an 11 year old. 😂❤
Nobody loves The Dark Shadows like I do. I'm possesed. 🦇🦇🦇
Quentin would turn against his brother and shoot him down. Barnabas has a way of getting people on side except for Carl and Trask never trusted him. Quentin has a lot of courage confronting Barnabas at the Mausoleum.
Perhaps Carl's ghost can get with Jeremiah's & Abigail's ghosts and they can all share stories how they all died at the hands of Barnabas.
Big mistake Barnanas : you shouldn' t kill Carl , he was mad but nice , and wiser than many others.
Just bite him a little and he would be a perfect new Willy.
And , by the way , you can kill Trask ,
he' s a man I love to hate.
Poor Carl.
Quentin locking Carl in with Barnabas was both cowardly and morally despicable. I love the Quentin character, but he could be a real A-hole.
What do you mean, "could be"? He was😅

He was, but his werewolf curse finally gave him a conscience and he finally realized how hurtful he was to people. In this case he chose Barnabas over his own brother, who he didn't love but merely tolerated.
Haha, Trask didn’t believe Carl, so blood is on his hands as well.
he sounds like a mad mickey mouse
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
they still call it the "old house" when was it built 1,300 ? also the writers got lazy, they just re did the story in the past.
