Powercreep in Starrail is a real thing. as casual f2p player, only pull for characters, so all my character is E0S0 (Seele, JY, Kafka, DHIL, Ratio, BS, and Firefly) and trio support (RM, Sparkle, and Robin). i tested in MOC 12 node 1 with all my best team for each dps, result : Firefly - 2 cycle (FF, HMC, RM, Galla) Himeko SB - 4 cycle (Himeko, HMC, RM, Galla) DoT - 5 cycle (Kafka, BS, RM, Aven) Ratio - 6 cycle (Ratio, Robin, Pela, Galla) DHIL - 7 cycle (DHIL, Sparkle, RM, Galla) JY - 9 cycle (JY, TY, Sparkle, Galla) Seele - (don't have SW, so no) new dps get less cycle. yes, node 1 is firefly favorite enemies, but all team i use Galla to help breaking enemies. and in my fisrt clear, i use firefly in node 2 and she get 2 cycle. nb. all my build is fine all crit dps has around 70 cr with 140 cdm (except ratio has 160 cdm, it because herta LC give cr), for dot and sb just atk spd dan break.
I mean, you cannot expect dhil to clear content as he used to considering enemies aren't really weak to imaginary as much as they used to, after all you said yourself that himeko cleared faster and she's standard unit, it will start to became serious problems once he has a problem clearing imaginary weak content tho
MoC is NOT the only gamemode though. Some characters are gonna perform better in PF or AS for example, and thats fine. However you can't compare DOT other teams here when this certain MoC buff is aimed mostly at follow up teams for example. In other rotations these numbers should change drastically. And I disagree, Seele doesn't need SW at all. Only two supports and shes ready to go
@@xehanort04 yes this moc is flavor for skill and follow up character. but why ratio and JY not get low cycle? are not their weakness? no there 2 imaginary with one doesn't and 2 lightning with 1 doesn't. and for dot team, i think this team is stable, previous moc my dot team got 4 cycle in node 1 even fight again argenti (no weakness), and other team (ratio, dhil, jy, seele) above 9 cycle
Volkin is 100% right about action gacha games. That should not be a thing. It really creates a lot of frustration when you have to invest significantly more time and attention to get "gacha" rewards
I feel like Smack is the only one who saw through Hoyo's tactic. During Firefly banner: the only version of MoC/PF/AS that was up were the ones tailor made to superbuff Firefly. Even highest difficulty of new Divergent Universe were designed for superbreak teams. There was literally not a single piece of content you could do that was not heavily favoring that character with perfect enemy lineups and insane external buffs. We went through this with DhiL, Jingliu, DoT teams, Acheron, surely this time people would figure out the pattern of how they do the marketing :D
@sticky-soup no we didn't, DHIL and Jingliu only had MoC and Swarm at the time, PF and AS didn't exist, and Swarm favoured DHIL, but not to the point where almost any other team comp was useless like in DU. Also, the enemies design was not so blatantly tailor-made for the char being pushed, Swarm was made for DHIL, but it spawned 5 enemies. Yeah, they were IMG weak, but you could deal with them through various ways, I cleared that shit with Clara. Nowadays, we have the Puppets, which have a combination of CC, DoT and One-shots and the only counter is to break them fast enough,, take absolutely no damage before breaking weakness and have sooo much HP to the point where you either do nuclear damage (cof cof superbreak) or you don't clear it in 5 cycles
iyo definition of powercreep is just wrong, or at least not what everyone else agreed on. iyo think powercreep means the old unit can no longer clear content aka unusable. so by his thinking if the old unit can still clear content, means there's no powercreep. whereas most people definition of powercreep means new unit is more powerful, faster to clear content and easier with less work and effort in character or team building, compared to old unit.
In all seriousness the powercreep problem gotten atrociuos.....not the power level of the chars.....just how much the HP pool has increased so the new chars don't ONE SHOT the enemy It's terrible and they need to like find ways to just give the older chars flat out higher scaling cause "indirect buffs" through "new chars" is beyond cringe cause that's just argument off "spend 300$ for ur max 5* team THEN u can clear"

actually uninstalled genshin after 1.5 year of playing, and wuthering waves aswell for the same reason as stated in this podcast.. its just SO TEDIOUS to keep up with all the dailies/events etc for so little reward.
All gachas and all daily content becomes like that eventually. In case of Genshin/Wuwa it hits harder because 3D/open worlds require more effort for its daily stuffs. HSR being autocombat and turn based is really a blessing.
just login less frequently. i login to genshin like once every 2 months (roughly every patch), enjoy new content and then i'm out. same with other gachas. some i login every week and some daily. i just login when there's something fun to do which really depends on the game. some months i'm more involved in a certain gacha and other months that gacha takes a backseat. don't worry too much about missing out and just make sure you spend time having fun when u login. that's what games are for.
I think that in wuthering there is a way of getting the daily rewards without doing the daily. But I quitted it so I m not sure and i don't remember well. But in genshin 4.8 there is a new system that allows you to get the daily rewards just by condensing your resin, and I think it's the best addiction they ever did to the game. You need a prior exploration for that to work, but with an hour of exploring a new zone you re all right for 10 days
I still to this day think, if anyone is interested in a really good open world PvP/pve game, they should play black desert online. The combat is amazing, it’s unique, and the grinding is engaging, while also being completely free to play after u purchase the base game.
Great vid and amazing discourse as usual. As a former mmo player there's a lot that gachas rub me the wrong way such as lack of balance patches or fixes to older characters. There's also a lack of fluidity in character builds since it's just get max skills and all the nodes and pray you get good drops. An MMO like DFO when I played it, had classes with like 4-5 different builds based on either weapon types or burst vs sustain. I will say though Star Rail is in a pretty solid position as far as game design and structure. The rotating gameplay focus is great, because it keeps it fresh every season. The characters do seem to get power crept by this model, but they don't lose viability. It's more like pokemon where you can build and mix up your team to solve whatever problem the devs throw at us. I've seen a lot of people stick to the "meta only teams" view, but as I've started pulling away from that concept I started enjoying it more as a gacha pokemon. Genshin would be great if the devs kept the character concepts interesting or revamped some of the interactions, like geo or physical. I can enjoy Wuwa more because it has a difficulty in gameplay, so it's more on me improving.

What I like about open world echo system is that when I'm free and want to play for 4-5 hours I just keep going around the world and grind echo. When I was playing genshin I'd start the game be free in like 10 mins and then be thinking of doing something. The way my schedule is I am rarely free but when I'm available I have 6-7 hours of free time.
WILDSTAR I'M LATE, BUT THE CARTOONY MMO WITH ESPER HAS TO BE WILDSTAR dude i loved that game more than any game i've ever played, the raids and combat were so incredible. i've been gutted trying to scratch that itch ever since it died.
Gacha Smack saying FF11 was his fav MMO made me smile lol. FF11 was my goat as well. Red Mage solo’n end game for mats to spawn the gods in “Sky” for raids was super fun. The people I met then are still friends today and I played that game back in 2004!
I deleted it by accident but I'll re-post it. I think WUWA as a bit harder time to catch the busy people. I can't take the time during the day at work or driving or anything where I'm mobile to use my time. If it had any way to auto complete it, in my opinion a bit of an easier game to enjoy. This is actually the reason that I've stopped playing almost all games as I can't find the time between other things to sit down and focus on it. This is also the reason mobile games with auto functions catch my attention a bit more. Its why star rail has hooked me so good. When I do have time, I can complete a difficult mode like MOC or AS. But when I don't have time i just throw on the farm and I can switch to something else. Edit: This isn't just the case with WUWA. This is the case with any action game that makes you sit down and only focus on it. Like ZZZ or Genshin. I only focused on WUWA because it was the main focus of the podcast.
35:03 idk about anyone else but i feel the exact same way.....acheron rn compared to firefly is night and day, acheron felt amazing a patch ago and now just compared to firefly.......there power levels are on 2 differnt spectrums And its not just the break effect MoC buff, cause thats gone in this current MoC (replaced with FUA)
Thats only if your Acheron build is mid though. If your Acheron build is good than she still 0 cycles current MOC easily faster than Firefly even. My E0S0 Acheron with 67/180 crit ratio S3 Good Night Sleep Well actually did 500k dmg to just 2 targets in previous MOC on Argenti side using Black Swan, Pela and Aventurine. Did over a million+ dmg and easily 0 cycled the first wave.

My Acheron is E1S1 with ~55/240 crits, which is almost 100 crit rate in battle, and she performs significantly worse than Firefly, but my Firefly is E1S0. Also my Pela and Silver Wolf have 161+ speed and SW even has eagle set. Like sure, Acheron does huge damage, but it feels like Sam does it faster
As someone who's played tons of MMOs for the past 20 or so years, I agree with the connection to gacha games. I too wound up playing gachas. With the release of Endwalker, I got back into FFXIV after a 2 year break, got burnt out after playing daily for many years. And damn if it isn't super nice again to do so after being used to gachas to not have to deal with stamina or FOMO. I don't feel obligated to play daily, but I still log in daily. And not because of FOMO but because I just simply want to. I think that's the biggest difference for me. I can play longer if I have more time on a certain day. I can not play if I am busy and it's not an issue. Whereas in a gacha if I don't play a day, I miss out on using up the stamina. I think the main reason I gravitated towards gachas is more due to the lack of new good MMOs and a surplus of amazing looking gachas that have been and are still being released. If only someone would make an MMO that looked similar to WuWa or something that DOESNT suck. And that actually releases.
i agree with Smack, i like Wuwa way better, i only do tacet field now and i like echo farming aspect way more. Star rail just not rewarding enough to keep seeing shitty relics
I only do Tacet Field for one week because of the 200% reward, so more exp, outside that I never done Tacet Field, it's a waste of time and energy, just farm normally outside is better, use energy to upgrade the trace for main 9 characters, farm echo on weekends, spend at least 1 hour on it. Currently already have 5 imo fully built characters just by farming outside, in HSR or other games it takes at least 1 month to get 1 almost fully built, I can almost clear all TOA now but other game take like 6 months to get anywhere close especially for FTP.
@@rektarduno9153 it’s not. For 120 energy spent. Not including extra drops, HSR/Genshin is 6 guaranteed gold drops while WuWa (UL50) is at 8 lol. It’s also much easier, and I mean much fucking easier to get onset pieces in WuWa because of rewards while resin in HSR is gated. You only need to farm for 2 elemental pieces because atk% and cr/cd is fairly easy to farm while in Genshin, there are 3, with HSR being at 4 and both games having lower adjusted rates for more wanted stats like cr/cd/spd/er/em. Yeah, it may seem like you get more out of HSR/Genshin, but the probability of getting a piece you need with correct substats is actually much lower. Also I’d like to add that the newly added Lightcrusher is only Spector, meaning there’s no bs 5050 aspect with it. This makes it much easier to farm elem pieces and I wouldn’t doubt that they’d add more in the future for each element.

For me, ZZZ was a mistake in a sense that it was supposed to be the fps of Hoyo. They dumped that idea and turned it into a reskin of Honkai Impact. That was supposed to be their entry to a PVP game but they didn't.

Why would they switch up now when majority of their player base are casual players. I agreed with the tedious to enjoy some gacha games.. It make me Burn out to continue with the new gacha games that not entertain me.. Now I only focus on 2 main gacha HSR and NIKKE.. Why I still stick with this two because of the easy daily and good storyline..NIKKE I can do more PVP and HSR I can do more end games.. I will try new gacha games Sword of Convallaria end of this month.. Gacha tactic games I like most finally out to try.. I miss Final Fantasy tactic so much..
6 month meta cycle in HSR yup Hoyo is using whats tried and tested from HI3rd a full 6 month patch cycle of a Herrscher main patch character like an IL DH then the Jingliu then the dot meta with Kafka then Archeron Firefly for example for the HSR dudes from an element being the strongest for that 6 month 1.0 till 2.0 be it fire be or ice or what ever 6 monts change up having the element of the season after 6 months change it to a different element sell the new better characters for that one repeat ^_^ same for Genshin with the abyss cycles it's an Hoyo model for selling new characters. Sometimes it works better for some char sometimes some feel like new but garbage after 1 month of play it is what is.
that's true, with one little difference, HI3 older characters were literally unplayable, while HSR powercrept but still left room for them to be usable, but not anymore, now they're totally going the HI3 route.

If we consider HI3rd's current meta ,you can still clear Nirvana with 5.0 and above characters (we are currently in 7.6) with a few exceptions of characters like HoT and HoR(niche but still doable) which are 3-4 yrs old.
Its honestly skill issue if Acheron that literally 0 cycle the current MOC at E0S0 is feeling like shit with E0S1 I don't know how that happens otherwise.

I think this is why I hav moved along to cozy games. Its a better option then gacha games for me. I loved mmos but no one is making them. And if they are they are all p2w or horrible I still play hsr and solo lvling but that’s about it

dude i loved that game more than any game i've ever played, the raids and combat were so incredible. i've been gutted trying to scratch that itch ever since it died.
What i love about single player premium games is you don't have to play them for ever. You can move on and drop them.
Games like star rail should buff older units so they can do new content better. Kinda wack they dont like other live service games

Gacha Smack saying FF11 was his fav MMO made me smile lol. FF11 was my goat as well. Red Mage solo’n end game for mats to spawn the gods in “Sky” for raids was super fun. The people I met then are still friends today and I played that game back in 2004!
I deleted it by accident but I'll re-post it. I think WUWA as a bit harder time to catch the busy people. I can't take the time during the day at work or driving or anything where I'm mobile to use my time. If it had any way to auto complete it, in my opinion a bit of an easier game to enjoy. This is actually the reason that I've stopped playing almost all games as I can't find the time between other things to sit down and focus on it. This is also the reason mobile games with auto functions catch my attention a bit more. Its why star rail has hooked me so good. When I do have time, I can complete a difficult mode like MOC or AS. But when I don't have time i just throw on the farm and I can switch to something else.
Edit: This isn't just the case with WUWA. This is the case with any action game that makes you sit down and only focus on it. Like ZZZ or Genshin. I only focused on WUWA because it was the main focus of the podcast.

35:03 idk about anyone else but i feel the exact same way.....acheron rn compared to firefly is night and day, acheron felt amazing a patch ago and now just compared to firefly.......there power levels are on 2 differnt spectrums
And its not just the break effect MoC buff, cause thats gone in this current MoC (replaced with FUA)
Thats only if your Acheron build is mid though. If your Acheron build is good than she still 0 cycles current MOC easily faster than Firefly even.
My E0S0 Acheron with 67/180 crit ratio S3 Good Night Sleep Well actually did 500k dmg to just 2 targets in previous MOC on Argenti side using Black Swan, Pela and Aventurine. Did over a million+ dmg and easily 0 cycled the first wave.

@@kennethyoung7457comparing a significantly more invested in Acheron with 2 limited bis teammates vs mid investment fireflies with only one limited on the team is a bad comparison, acherons 1M damage is just a big number taken out of context, firefly takes 3-4 turns a cycle usually doing 200-300k each hit and teammates also hit for 100k+

My Acheron is E1S1 with ~55/240 crits, which is almost 100 crit rate in battle, and she performs significantly worse than Firefly, but my Firefly is E1S0. Also my Pela and Silver Wolf have 161+ speed and SW even has eagle set. Like sure, Acheron does huge damage, but it feels like Sam does it faster

As someone who's played tons of MMOs for the past 20 or so years, I agree with the connection to gacha games. I too wound up playing gachas. With the release of Endwalker, I got back into FFXIV after a 2 year break, got burnt out after playing daily for many years. And damn if it isn't super nice again to do so after being used to gachas to not have to deal with stamina or FOMO. I don't feel obligated to play daily, but I still log in daily. And not because of FOMO but because I just simply want to.
I think that's the biggest difference for me. I can play longer if I have more time on a certain day. I can not play if I am busy and it's not an issue. Whereas in a gacha if I don't play a day, I miss out on using up the stamina.
I think the main reason I gravitated towards gachas is more due to the lack of new good MMOs and a surplus of amazing looking gachas that have been and are still being released. If only someone would make an MMO that looked similar to WuWa or something that DOESNT suck. And that actually releases.

i agree with Smack, i like Wuwa way better, i only do tacet field now and i like echo farming aspect way more. Star rail just not rewarding enough to keep seeing shitty relics

It just about taste, for me Wawa are way more boring and Tacet field give shitty relics like every gacha games but use more energy 🙄
I only do Tacet Field for one week because of the 200% reward, so more exp, outside that I never done Tacet Field, it's a waste of time and energy, just farm normally outside is better, use energy to upgrade the trace for main 9 characters, farm echo on weekends, spend at least 1 hour on it.
Currently already have 5 imo fully built characters just by farming outside, in HSR or other games it takes at least 1 month to get 1 almost fully built, I can almost clear all TOA now but other game take like 6 months to get anywhere close especially for FTP.
@@rektarduno9153 it’s not. For 120 energy spent. Not including extra drops, HSR/Genshin is 6 guaranteed gold drops while WuWa (UL50) is at 8 lol. It’s also much easier, and I mean much fucking easier to get onset pieces in WuWa because of rewards while resin in HSR is gated.
You only need to farm for 2 elemental pieces because atk% and cr/cd is fairly easy to farm while in Genshin, there are 3, with HSR being at 4 and both games having lower adjusted rates for more wanted stats like cr/cd/spd/er/em.
Yeah, it may seem like you get more out of HSR/Genshin, but the probability of getting a piece you need with correct substats is actually much lower.
Also I’d like to add that the newly added Lightcrusher is only Spector, meaning there’s no bs 5050 aspect with it. This makes it much easier to farm elem pieces and I wouldn’t doubt that they’d add more in the future for each element.
@@seongthongchuah8356 yeah at least 1 hr to farm and that’s the problem why we can’t compare this to HSR. Wuwa takes too much time to farm relics and material. This game is not friendly to ppl that have works to do at all.

For me, ZZZ was a mistake in a sense that it was supposed to be the fps of Hoyo. They dumped that idea and turned it into a reskin of Honkai Impact.
That was supposed to be their entry to a PVP game but they didn't.

What makes u think mihoyo would make a fps game? Or any gacha game really? All of mihoyo game so far target the casual audience . Even the new leaked mihoyo game is a life simulator. Why would they switch up now when majority of their player base are casual players. Literally just loosing revenue if they turn it into an fps/pvp game
no gacha game will be fsp just base of the fact that their main selling point is selling attractive and interesting characters. Imagine playing a gacha where you can’t see the character in gameplay. People were already upset at ZZZ cuz they couldn’t play as agents in new Eridu

No it’s cuz the majority that plays gacha, plays it for fan service and appealing characters. Take that away from all gacha games the revenue is going to shit. I agreed with the tedious to enjoy some gacha games.. It make me Burn out to continue with the new gacha games that not entertain me.. Now I only focus on 2 main gacha HSR and NIKKE.. Why I still stick with this two because of the easy daily and good storyline..NIKKE I can do more PVP and HSR I can do more end games.. I will try new gacha games Sword of Convallaria end of this month.. Gacha tactic games I like most finally out to try.. I miss Final Fantasy tactic so much..

6 month meta cycle in HSR yup Hoyo is using whats tried and tested from HI3rd a full 6 month patch cycle of a Herrscher main patch character like an IL DH then the Jingliu then the dot meta with Kafka then Archeron Firefly for example for the HSR dudes from an element being the strongest for that 6 month 1.0 till 2.0 be it fire be or ice or what ever 6 monts change up having the element of the season after 6 months change it to a different element sell the new better characters for that one repeat ^_^ same for Genshin with the abyss cycles it's an Hoyo model for selling new characters. Sometimes it works better for some char sometimes some feel like new but garbage after 1 month of play it is what is.
that's true, with one little difference, HI3 older characters were literally unplayable, while HSR powercrept but still left room for them to be usable, but not anymore, now they're totally going the HI3 route.

Hsr is just a year old . How do you know that older chars like seele or DHIL won't be obselete in 5+ yrs?
If we consider HI3rd's current meta ,you can still clear Nirvana with 5.0 and above characters (we are currently in 7.6) with a few exceptions of characters like HoT and HoR(niche but still doable) which are 3-4 yrs old.

I think this is why I hav moved along to cozy games. Its a better option then gacha games for me. I loved mmos but no one is making them. And if they are they are all p2w or horrible I still play hsr and solo lvling but that’s about it
