In 76 I was lucky enough to find one of these for my first car. Worked a lot of jobs and lots of hours to save up for it. Great first car, high school was a lot of fun
My second car in high school a gold 1970 442 W-30 4-speed. It came without air-conditioning 3.91 gears. It was 1978 and my dad rebuilt engine and had a guy in town that bracket race one just like that ran high 11 and he helped me tune mine. On a Wednesday night @ Green Valley in Fort Worth Texas It was awarded King of the street and it ran a best of 12.61 open headers and slicks. Around 13.34 that night to the mufflers and street tires. That time surprise me because on the street it wouldn't hook up. I think itp was a sticky track and I use VHT.
I'm from Lansing and worked at Olds. I owned a '69 W-31 F-85 post car with a factory modified TH350 trans and 3.91 rear. Most fun car I ever had. Could beat or keep up with most any bigger block car on the street. Sure wish I had it back.
I had a 70 W31 back in the mid seventies, burgundy with black padded top, black interior, 4speed. With it's 390 rear gear and that high winding small block, l surprised a lot of Camaros,Novas and Chevelle's. A 13.95 on street tires at the local strip was the best ET. It's one of the many cars l had that l wish l could have back. Like this car, it had a nasty idle.

It's a very cool mellow tone that you can just hear the hotter factory camshaft, but still Oldsmobile quiet.............
Exactly, the famously known "Green Sabre." Same car that CJ saw comming out of a garage with Ryder, Smoke, and Tempeny revealing the treason to him thanks to César Vialpando.
Love it man. U deserve it more than anyone I know. U don’t more for Olds recognition than anyone else and you also put yourself last. Glad you finally got something to show for it. Well deserved and perfect car man.
When I was growing up in the 60’s and 70’s,if I heard a car coming down the street I could tell if it was an Oldsmobile just by its exhaust note before even seeing the car..Mom had a 1964 Olds F-85…,the poor man’s Cutass ……
Why no info on the subject at hand here. We’ve all seen a classic W-31 before. What about the exhaust mounted turbo system? I was assuming by the description that they had done a rear mounted turbo kit, which has its advantages and disadvantages. The exhaust is much cooler by the time it gets to the turbos, thereby reducing the positive pressure gains, but on the flip side, the turbo charged air is much cooler by the time it gets to the intake, which means more air density and efficient power gains. All you’ve got to do is use bigger turbos out back, higher boost at that point, which will cool and reduce boost, but still be as high as needed and much cooler, all for “free”, simply by the design and layout. While moving, the air cooling the exhaust system is like an intercooler of sorts, but without the plumbing.
W31 350 was a special built by Oldsmobile. Blueprinted, solid lifters, special harmonic balancer and Aluminum intake manifold and specifics Rochester quadrajet carbarator. No A/C or power brakes option.
@@basilcarroll9729 There were THREE versions of Olds 350. A 4bbl version pumping out 310hp. The W-31 with 325hp and late in 1970 you could order a third version. A "QB" 350 with a 4 Spd tranee was said to be "underrated" at 310 hp....google it ......HR had on online article in regard to it...

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. In the United States, these cars will ALWAYS be able to be used, but it will cost a lot more. Race and airplane fuel are legal, and for many years, original musclecars with 12.5:1 compression had to use those super expensive, higher octane fuels to drive at all, and those people just took it in stride. It will be the same in the near future. We will keep these cars,a d. We will drive them, but more sparingly, and they will be even more special occasions. Looking at that bodyline, to hear that grimey rumble, just the feeling of the tires grabbing that road is awesome... I want to drive it so bad.
Sounds a bit more radical than the the original 308 degree duration W-31 cam.
Could be due to the turbo mufflers but I felt the same way when I first seen this vid now at the same time
Definitely a more aggressive camshaft than a 308 cam. I’d say a 328 or bigger. Custom grind I am sure
That's a cruiser car or was now its a race car.
