- In this The Sims 2 video I showcase some annoying aspects of the Open For Business expansion pack. These range from glitches to small inconveniences that can happen while running a business. Please note that I'm not hating on Open For Business, it's actually my favourite Sims 2 pack and the game would be more boring if some of these features weren't in it, although some of the glitches that I present in this video do take away from the gameplay experience a little bit. Overall, the pack is still legendary and this is just a light-hearted video, in which I go over some relatable things that players might find inconvenient.

we all love TS2 but you gotta admit
no one would miss if everyone and their grandma didn't run outside INTO A THUNDERSTORM to see a TREE catching fire or the cashier taking 20 seconds to use the damn thing
What I don’t like is when the same customer keeps complaining over and over and it lowers my business ranking, and instead of leaving, in true Karen fashion they complain to the manager
The bag throwing one is suuuuper annoying. It's especially annoying when your cashier freezes when trying to serve the customer, the result usually ends up in bag throwing. There's a few mods that fix various issues relating to OFB. I love OFB still regardless.
It took me a long time to realize that it's best to put your manager on the register so you get a control for them. If they freeze, click "be cashier" again and delete the current "be cashier." It usually happens when a customer walks in and decides to talk to them or tell them a joke or something, and the cashier is waiting for that action.
OFB is my favourite pack as well, but yes, such glitches can be really annoying 😬 the one thing that I dislike the most is that I can't assign uniforms to my employees without having their faces change in horrific ways :)))

yeah those are actually "dead eyes", given their name because of being shared on many deceased maxis sims
if you look closely you'll notice that they never move, even in the actions menu
Can relate. I, too, like this pack. So much that I once opened so many businesses that every sim in the hire employee list already worked for another business. Lack of workforce I guess.
The uniform glitch is so annoying. If you want to fix it, assign the uniform and change their appearance. At least it worked for the business owners.
With selling thing, I've noticed an interesting thing. Whether sim accepts sale interaction or not doesn't only depend on the relationship, but also on grouchy/nice personality. So if you see a sim who you know is nice, target them (please don't take advantage of kindness in real life)!
Oh, and one more annoyance.
With moveobjects cheat, you can place anything on displays. However, should it get bought and restocked, it's gone and the display is now empty.
Great comment! I heard that a high Charisma skill level increases the chance of a successful sales interaction, altho idk if it's true. I usually don't waste time getting the relationship score up, i usually just select a Sales interaction and hope for the best lol
@@crazymarq4390 I've heard the same thing... Though how I understand it, charisma skill should help to get the better sales talent badge faster.

Oh my! The eyebrows disappearing thing made me so mad. Haunted me ever since. Glad it was not only me that got frustrated at this!
There's a detail in The Sims 2 that I find very funny since the base game. When your sim is in a love relationship, you will have the option of "groping" which is to squeeze the butt of the sim in public. sims are embarrassed to see the scene of sims making out.
I have a sim that started selling flowers in the Lil and Local shop. It's small. Teenie-Tiny. And I just Love how customers come in and do the shrug shoulders, look around, can't find what I'm looking for dance. Hello, flower shop, just flowers and they're all right there in front of you! Even better? The ones who go outside and do this! Ah, maybe if you came in the store you could find something! Annoying and funny at the same time.
I will admit that I got lazy and started putting a fence on both sides of the store from the outer wall to the property line so they can't sneak around to the back and do that shrugging dance while I'm not looking. If they want to go out back and shrug, they have to go through the store to get there, so at least I see them! It's weird when they come in and head straight for the bathroom to do their shrugging. I had to do away with men's and ladies' room doors and replace them with regular doors because I need my salespersons to be able to get to the bathroom shruggers.
@@bijou3000 LOL! Bathroom shruggers. Haven't had any do that yet. "I'm in the bathroom and I can't find anything to buy!"
The restaurant one is fixable. The glitch of waiters delivering empty plate is caused by the non-existence foods or beverages.
So once you purchase a restaurant lot and want to start running it, all you have to do, is to assign the foods manually into the menu, or the easiest method is to see one by one which food or drink that has no image on it. Those are the non-existence foods that cause the glitch I mentioned earlier and Once you remove it from your menu, you'll never see the glitch in your restaurant.
I got this somewhere from the forum, I might thought it'd come in handy for everyone in here. I already tried this and it always works!
I have a real issue with butlers calling the fire dept when a tree catches on fire during a storm, then the fire goes out before they show up and a firefighter lectures my poor sim and fines them $500
ah... bringing back my memories about how frustated I am, when playing Florence Delarosa's household and trying to sell her flower bouquets lol
the restocking was a hell because she need to arrange the flowers first. and when trying to do while selling... the customer kept taking the same bouquet just because it's cheaper... and complained if I didn't restock it -_-
Ahhh I have to ban head witches from my business lots specifically for that reason! Plus the lot slows right down when they arrive, urgh.

bon voyage- sim wanted to learn to teleport but i failed the secret question and couldn’t find him again for the rest of the trip
I realize my comment is late but I installed a mod to allow sims to be in college for a short amount of time. It made each semester like 48 sim hours. Otherwise, I would never play that EP because it is ridiculously long.
With apartment life, I can't get the neighbors to stay away. I lock the doors and they continue to walk right in.

You gotta assign a cashier at the sim-owned business when you play that business, that way the cashier will always be there. It works for my sims. Also it is suuuuper annoying in some lots - they end up throwing the bags because they kept trying to queue, but some gawker has been standing there blocking the register so they couldn't get to it in time
Trivia fact: in J'adore bakery all food is rather...decoration/nonfunctional. You need to make new things in order to sell bakery food. P. S. OFB is awesome if you use certain mods and cc (monique's hacked computer allowes you to learn/get talent badges).😀
You're right, OFB is great but certain mods definitely come in handy. There are some useful fixes over at SimWardrobe too

For some reason J'adore Bakery has this weird glitch in my game where the environment score is constantly down in the red. It doesn't matter how clean the room is or how much decoration you put up or if you fix the ridiculously tall roof, the meter never goes up and it makes the customers unhappy so they rarely buy anything. 😩
I apologize for being all over your comment section, but in my defense, I really love your videos and I love the Sims 2 (the best Sims game), even after all these years.
Wanda Tinker hangs out all day without buying anything, but I love her because she chats with and distracts people who are getting impatient in line or are looking around for help, grills hot dogs, and turns the ballgame on the break room television set to keep people from getting grumpy from lack of entertainment. She's saved my bacon a couple of times when my sales people or cashier have been slow to help others. On the other hand, Malcolm Landgrabb browses without buying, spends hours watching television, waits for someone to feed him, and he's always trying to talk my staff into abandoning their stations to go play catch.

what I hate the most about this pack is the bug making your customers not wanting to buy anything, they come in look at objects for 1 sec and stop, the only way to fix this is to move the lot apparently. I still don't know what is causing this bug, no it's not because of items being too expensive or a low rating score, the same shop moved to another lot and everything works fine again
2:58 This bug appears only when the business haven't enough employees
The Pottery plates also bug out when you try to restock them if they're on the shelf. Idk if it's because the game expects them to be primarily wall items or whatever. But I only sell them by hanging them on the wall now.

Cashiers were the most annoying for me with OFB. Apparently the Talent Badge of Cash REgisters is glitched in that it is NOT affected with how many Logic Points despite that it should.
And there's no way to practice the skill off the business. You HAVE to run a business with a cash register and suffer through slow ringing up customers.
And IMO businesses where you sell crafted items suffer because you will run out of items at one point and your crafter may not be available at the time. Sometimes it's just best to sell things off the buy catalogue

Omg yess i really hate when bad witches visit business lots because they also always do this bad weather spell 🙄 i kept killing all bad witches by cheating whenever they appeared until i realized that the other customers weren’t so happy about that either oops hahaha😅
But yeah i still love OFB just like all the other packs :)

I haven't played business gameplay yet. My idea is that create many Servobots and assign them as cashier, employees etc. Are Servobots better option than sim employees?
Imagine robots do most of the hard work.
There could be pros and cons to having servos instead of regular sims as employees. Servos can break down and "run amok" and they'll shock sims until they finally break. Also, if there power were to get too low they'll shut down. I've never used one in a store so I don't know if they'd leave or just shut down in the middle of their work. Could be interesting, though.
I've never employed a Servo but in theory they should be a bit better than normal Sims, as they have less needs, aren't affected by temperature and come with 10 skill points in Cleaning and Mechanical (might be wrong here) and some talent badges. You still need to recharge them tho. I think Bigfoot might actually be better since he has maxed out all skills and has a gold badge in all talents.
I've used both Servos and Bigfoots. One of my stores right now is all Bigfoot-staffed and it's great, but you have to keep an eye on their needs because if they get too low, they get a little..... grumpy. Also, if you have a buffet table set up or a mini-fridge and a Bigfoot gets off task, they will head straight for the food and have to be told to get back to work. Servos can work for hours without food or bathroom breaks, but if they get too low on power, they go out front and shut down until they are recharged. I've never had a Servo run amok and shock people, but now I'm definitely intrigued!

Am i the only one who didnt like this pack? Running a business was a lot of work and required a huge amount of capital. The neighbourhood was half baked and lacked any depth or lore and a lot of the new objects could only be made with the workbenches so you had to have a sim level up on all of them just to use them. To top it all off for me this was the pack that had the most glitches. Great video though :) you should do a opening a business guide for people like me haha
Thanks for watching! You're definitely not alone, I can see why some players wouldn't enjoy this pack. The gameplay style that you need to adapt to in order to enjoy the pack certainly isn't for everyone and the glitches can be a bit much at times too. I do like how creative it allows you to be tho, you can start so many different types of businesses and take it into so many different directions, it really adds a lot to the replayability of the pack
